In this video, we continue our review of an interaction between @StrivingforEternity and @Soteriology101 on the topic of Provisionism and Calvinism. Some very important topics were discussed and Sye Ten Bruggencate makes and appearance at the end which you can't miss!
In this clip, Sye Ten Bruggencate dives deep into sharing the Gospel, starting with the human condition and how it connects to the image of God in Genesis 1:27. See why why actions like stealing and adultery are sinful—not just because of societal consequences, but because they misrepresent God's perfect nature. You'll also learn about repentance, its true meaning from the Greek word "metanoia," and how salvation through Jesus Christ alone can bring reconciliation with God. If you're searching for peace and wondering how to be made right with God, this message is for you. We explore how the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross offers a way to pay our sin debt and how repentance, a change of mind, is a gift from God. Join us in this powerful Gospel message and discover the true meaning of repentance and faith in Jesus. The rebels capitalize on having Sye in the studio once again and hit a topic near and dear to Sye's heart: presuppositional apologetics. Sye contends that you do not have to be an expert in fossil records, on the nuances of the Quaran, or have the argument from design eloquently practiced in order to defend the faith, you just have to believe the Bible. Join us as we pick Sye's brain and discuss apologetics with the star of “How to Answer a Fool”

This week P Nate and Elder P are joined in studio by Sye Ten Bruggencate. “The Bible has been rewritten… right?” “The Bible was created by men… wasn’t it?” “The Bible is a fairy-tale for grown-ups… isn’t it?” If you have ever been challenged to defend the trustworthiness of Scripture (or you have wondered yourself), then you need to catch this amazing episode of Answer Anyone with Sye Ten Bruggencate. After all, the Bible is not only the world’s bestselling book of all time. It’s also the world’s most attacked book. And because of that, there are many misconceptions about its truthfulness, trustworthiness and relevance. It’s time to tackle those misconceptions head-on. That’s what Sye Ten Bruggencate and Joel Settecase discuss in this fourth episode of “Answer Anyone with Sye Ten Bruggencate.” Specifically, you’ll find out… What kind of book the Bible really is. Why the Bible is best seen as a cohesive whole. How disbelief in the God of the Bible undercuts belief in any truth claims at all—including claims that the Bible is untrustworthy. Sye Ten Bruggencate’s “two-move checkmate” when debating on truth. About Sye Ten Bruggencate Sye Ten Bruggencate is a former stationary engineer (boiler operator) from Canada. Have you ever heard objections like, “I could never worship a God who killed so many people in the flood," or "How could God have commanded genocide against the Canaanites?" It may be common to accuse God's actions recorded in the Old Testament as immoral... but is it right? Or could it be that, by accusing God of being immoral or evil, the skeptic undermines his own foundation for morality? Is it really true that, without God, moral categories don't even make sense? How should a Christian respond to the accusation that God is immoral or evil? That’s what Sye Ten Bruggencate and Joel Settecase discuss in this third episode of “Answer Anyone with Sye Ten Bruggencate.” Specifically, you’ll find out… Why people raise these accusations. What the Bible really says about God's actions in the Old Testament. How the Triune God of Scripture. is the only possible foundation for telling the difference between good and evil What happens when we abandon God in order to argue against God's goodness. “If God exists, and He is good, then why is there evil in the world?” The so-called Problem of Evil is an important question that skeptics are asking, and it’s one that believers need to think carefully and biblically about. After all, God, being all-powerful, all-knowing, perfectly loving, and perfectly good, should prevent any evil from occurring in His creation… right? Well, not so fast. As it turns out, the same Bible that tells us what God is like also gives us the resources for understanding why evil exists. We just need to know where to look. That’s what Sye Ten Bruggencate and Joel Settecase discuss in this second episode of “Answer Anyone with Sye Ten Bruggencate.” Specifically, you’ll find out… Why the Problem of Evil is such a problem. What some bad answers to the Problem of Evil are. How to answer the problem of evil in a presuppositional way. How apologist Greg Bahnsen answered the question, and why he was right on the money. Why you can be assured that God really is exactly as the Bible describes Him, even in light of all the evil in the world. How to trust God in the face of pain, hardship and very real evil. “If God is real, where’s the evidence?” This is one objection that I hear a lot as a Christian apologist. And on the surface, it seems like a totally fair question. After all, we live in a scientific age, a rational age (at least, supposedly), and we have come to expect a certain standard of evidential accountability from those who make truth claims. And certainly, the existence of God is a truth claim. However, what if the question of God’s existence is not something that can be answered using evidence, but rather is a a prerequisite for even believing that evidence is meaningful at all? In other words, what if atheists, skeptics and unbelievers have the issue completely backwards? That’s what Joel Settecase and Sye Ten Bruggencate discuss in this first-ever episode of “Answer Anyone with Sye Ten Bruggencate.” Specifically, you’ll find out… What apologetics is. What evidence is. Why the very use of evidence presupposes God’s existence. How a presuppositional approach to apologetics can answer the question of God’s existence best, and why Joel and Sye don’t typically use that phrase. How Joel first started using Sye’s material back in the day, and what was the response of his youth group students. Much, much more. This episode is packed! If, like me (Joel Settecase), you are someone who is in regular conversation with people who don’t believe the same things you do, you know that sometimes those conversations can get heated. In fact, they can become all-out, head-on collisions of worldviews—your Christian worldview vs. their non-Christian worldview. And of course this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Healthy, robust, respectful debate has been a hallmark of Christian evangelism for hundreds of years. However, it does bring up some needs. One, you need to have a strong confidence that God’s word is actually true. Two, you need to possess skills to express the truth of God’s word in a way that will “demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Co 10:4b-5). And three, you need to root your communication in biblical love—of God and your discussion partner. So then, wouldn’t it be great if there were an argument that allowed you do all three? In this episode of the ThinkPod, you’ll hear me interview noted apologist, Sye Ten Bruggencate, about exactly that kind of argument. If you’re already familiar with Presuppositional Apologetics, you will appreciate how he expresses the approach in a way you probably haven’t heard before. If you’re brand new to Presup, though, this may prove a great starting point to get into this way of defending the truth of the Christian message. Specifically, you’ll learn why “The fear of the Lord” is so important, and how it factors into not only epistemology (knowledge) but also apologetics (defense of the faith). Check out Sye Ten Bruggencate’s website here for more apologetics resources. I especially like the “Other Worldviews” section. In 2018 Sye Ten-Bruggencate debated Mike Winger on the Biblical nature of the Presuppositional Method of Apologetics. Mike Winger though would not discuss a key component of the method which is a reformed view of salvation. This discussion was interesting because it not only shows Apologetic Method differences due to salvation Theology but also that Calvinists and Arminians do not share the same view of Natural Theology. In this episode Sye Ten Bruggencate joins Jassen and Jake and talk about the Presuppositional Apologetic Method, the Theology of salvation in that method and some of the differences in the views of Natural Theology inside and outside of the reformed view of the Bible and Apologetics. We dig into Sye's story and how he came to this discovery and means to defend his position on scripture. When someone challenges your faith in God, how do you respond? Do you cite historical evidence, provide scientific knowledge, or deliver philosophical arguments? What if there was an argument that no professing atheist could refute? Does that sound impossible? As it turns out, it is not impossible at all, and my guest is going to explain why. My guest is Sye Ten Bruggencate. Sye left his work as a Stationary Engineer in the automotive industry to pursue teaching apologetics full-time. While he has engaged, and continues to engage professed unbelievers on the streets and in formal debates, Sye now directs his efforts mainly to equipping Christians to defend their faith. In April 2013 Sye released the film “How To Answer The Fool, and in February 2015 released the film “Debating Dillahunty.” He has taught the subject throughout North America, and in the U.K. Sye is a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, and by God’s grace alone, he is a Christian. This is a really fun episode, you'll have to forgive the amount of silliness. It was later than usual when the gals recorded, so they are in rare form. In this episode they go through terms they've learned since being Redeemed, such as the 5 Solas, TULIP, Young Reformed and Restless, and Cage Stage. They also go through some historical facts of how we all got here. This is a fun episode, but they do eventually get down to the business of answering a lot of the questions they had sent in. Ben Fisher's back from his Reconnect sabbatical and he guides three high school seniors through Sye Ten Bruggencate's website, “Proof That God Exists.” The website has an interactive questionnaire that uses presuppositional apologetics to guide visitors to the conclusion that God exists based on the visitor's admission that absolute truth exists, that you know things to be true, that logic exists and that it is universal, not made of matter, and does not change. If visitors don't come to the conclusion that truth, knowledge, and logic exist in absolute, unchangeable, immaterial terms, then they are eventually redirected to Disneyland's ticket ordering web page.

Doctrinal Clarification Religion Encroaches; A Salvation Issue. While in Antioch [Act 15:1 ESV] But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." A Salvation Issue!! It's always about man “doing” something to earn Heaven.Man really wants to keep a little glory in our pockets. Here is the doctrine of a church in Hampshire County We believe the Bible teachers that salvation – the forgiveness of sins – is only by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:9; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 1:18-19; 1 John 1:7We believe the Bible teaches that one receives God's grace by putting faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ “and being immersed into Christ”, but that none of these is sufficient in and of itself for the assurance of salvation. God's plan to sacrifice Christ is not enoughWe humans must finish the job. The most theologically accurate way to call someone to repentance. In a debate with an atheist Sye Ten Bruggencate said the following. “Beg God to grant you repentance”. Why? Because a person can't repent unless God enables the person to do so. Look at what Jesus says to disciples and fans. [Jhn 6:63 ESV] It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.[Jhn 6:64 ESV] But there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)[Jhn 6:65 ESV] And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."[Jhn 6:66 ESV] After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.In Galatians; Paul writes a whole letter about circumcision. [Act 15:2 ESV] And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question.[Act 15:3 ESV] So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers.[Act 15:4 ESV] When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they declared all that God had done with them. Christians who were Pharisees [Act 15:5 ESV] But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, "It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses."[Act 15:6 ESV] The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter. Peter Speaks Up.[Act 15:7 ESV] And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.[Act 15:8 ESV] And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,[Act 15:9 ESV] and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. “Before I was done preaching the Holy Spirit came upon them.” (They were saved before they had done anything). Don't force religion that not even we Jews could follow. [Act 15:10 ESV] Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?[Act 15:11 ESV] But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."[Act 15:12 ESV] And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. James Speaks[Act 15:13 ESV] After they finished speaking, James replied, "Brothers, listen to me.[Act 15:14 ESV] Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.[Act 15:15 ESV] And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,[Act 15:16 ESV] "'After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it,[Act 15:17 ESV] that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things[Act 15:18 ESV] known from of old.' Quote from Amos[Amo 9:11 ESV] "In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old,[Amo 9:12 ESV] that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name," declares the LORD who does this. [Act 15:19 ESV] Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God,[Act 15:20 ESV] but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood.[Act 15:21 ESV] For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues." 1. Polluted by idols[1Co 8:1 ESV] Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.[1Co 8:13 ESV] Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.2. Sexual Immorality: The only approved physical intimacy is between one man & one woman in the covenant relationship of marriage. Everything else is evil. 3. Strangled and eating blood. [Gen 9:3 ESV] Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.[Gen 9:4 ESV] But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. [Lev 17:10 ESV] "If any one of the house of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn among them eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people.[Lev 17:11 ESV] For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.[Lev 17:14 ESV] For the life of every creature is its blood: its blood is its life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.[Act 15:41 ESV] And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. Religion: Do things to go to HeavenChristianity: Jesus saved you, so live accordingly. Live a life in response to being saved. The Council Agrees, They send out teams. [Act 15:22 ESV] Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, The Letter[Act 15:23 ESV] with the following letter: "The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings.[Act 15:24 ESV] Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,[Act 15:25 ESV] it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,[Act 15:26 ESV] men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.[Act 15:27 ESV] We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.[Act 15:28 ESV] For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements:[Act 15:29 ESV] that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell." Barsabbas, and Silas; reaction to the letter. [Act 15:30 ESV] So when they were sent off, they went down to Antioch, and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter.[Act 15:31 ESV] And when they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement.[Act 15:32 ESV] And Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with many words.[Act 15:33 ESV] And after they had spent some time, they were sent off in peace by the brothers to those who had sent them.[Act 15:34 ESV] 34: But it seemed good to Silas to remain there Paul & Barnabas' Home Church[Act 15:35 ESV] But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.[Act 15:36 ESV] And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us return and visit the brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are." Big Disagreement and team split[Act 15:37 ESV] Now Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark.[Act 15:38 ESV] But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work.[Act 15:39 ESV] And there arose a sharp disagreement, so that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus,[Act 15:40 ESV] but Paul chose Silas and departed, having been commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.[Act 15:41 ESV] And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. Sye Ten Bruggencate at the 2014 RefMT Conference, Sye discusses presuppositional apologetics.
6 months ago Sye Ten Bruggencate and atheist Paul Baird met to discuss Sye's presuppositional approach to proof of God. Sye claims that the fact Paul believes in laws of logic, maths, science and rationality prove that God exists. The show was a popular download with many subsequent online debates. They are back - Paul brings 6 months experience of debate on the subject online with him. Sye responds to some criticisms we received of his approach, including whether one can prove full blown Christian belief from presuppositional apologetics.
