    The Importance of The Incarnation

    The first week of December, Andy Stanley stated the following. “If somebody can predict their own death and then their own resurrection, I'm not all that concerned about how they got into the world.” “Christianity doesn't hinge on the truth or even the stories around the Birth of Jesus.” Does it matter “Who” was born that day? Why and How? Also if people might struggle with the “incarnation story” wouldn't they also struggle with the “resurrection story”? 1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; [1Ti 3:16 ESV] Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. Necessity that God had to provide a solution to Genesis Rebellion The proto-evangelium — the first Gospel (e- van –gel – yum) [Gen 3:14 NASB] The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; [Gen 3:15 NASB] And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." More than a talking snake; Great Cosmic battle, where the seed of Eve will have the tactical advantage. Long Ago, many times, many ways, God spoke to our fathers. [Heb 1:1 ESV] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, [Heb 1:2 ESV] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Did He? Oh Yes! [Isa 9:6 ESV] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [Isa 9:7 ESV] Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. [Mat 1:22 ESV] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: [Mat 1:23 ESV] "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. [Heb 1:3 ESV] He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, [Heb 1:4 ESV] having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. [Heb 1:5 ESV] For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"? [Heb 1:6 ESV] And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him.” Why couldn't Jesus just step out of Heaven, go the cross and call it done? The necessity of a God/Man! [Heb 2:10 ESV] For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. [Heb 2:11 ESV] For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, [Heb 2:14 ESV] Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, [Heb 2:15 ESV] and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. [Heb 2:17 ESV] Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Propitiate 1. to make favorably inclined; appease; conciliate. [Heb 2:18 ESV] For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. [2Co 5:18 ESV] All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; [2Co 5:19 ESV] that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. [2Co 5:21 ESV] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. “Jesus does this not only by dying the death we justly deserve but by living the life we should have lived.” Imputation: God imputes our sinful life to Jesus account and Imputes Jesus' Sinless life to our account. Federal Headship First Adam, Last Adam We are condemned with our Father Adam, We are Redeemed, through our Lord Jesus Christ. More Than That! [Rom 5:11 ESV] More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. The Son of Man Must Suffer [Mar 8:27 ESV] And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" [Mar 8:28 ESV] And they told him, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets." [Mar 8:29 ESV] And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Christ." [Mar 8:30 ESV] And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. [Mar 8:31 ESV] And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. The “Who” is important! The Son of Man; The Messiah! MUST SUFFER Also, Matt 1 & Luke 3:23; Emphasis that Jesus had to be of the line of David. Why all the work to demonstrate Who Jesus was, if it's not important? When Joseph heard that Mary was pregnant, Joseph was considering to call of the marriage. [Mat 1:20 NASB] But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. [Mat 1:21 NASB] "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." It matters very much “Who” and it matters “How”! John the Baptist, [Jhn 1:29 NASB] The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! One more thing! Be Thankful that God chose you to understand! Who are we? [Luk 2:10 NASB] But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; Just like the blue collar works of Jesus' time. God sent angels to shepherds who were working outside of town, working the night shift. Of all the smart and popular and famous people, [1Co 2:12 ESV] Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. God gathered you here at this church at this time, His Christmas morning, so we can celebrate! So that you may know truths that is hidden from the “wise of this world”.     Reformation Sunday: The Five Solas During the 16th Century. The reformers were protesting Protestants . Protestors against Catholicism. Battle Lines: Authority: Church Authority VS Biblical Authority Salvation: Synergy VS Monergy. God's Word is interconnected. You can't talk about one theology with it leading to another theology. The Five Guides protect us from man-made religion which war against Jesus Christ. The goal of the world is simple Anything but Jesus Christ. Pagan religions, secular humanism. Or Jesus Christ +. . . . . Cults, heresies, TBN, prosperity preachers Sola Scriptura - Scripture alone [2Ti 3:16 ESV] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [2Ti 3:17 ESV] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. Concerning divisions in the church: [1Co 4:6 ESV] I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. Written Word Inspired by the Holy Spirit. Here is a clue if your theology is heading the wrong way. You make the case for some inherited goodness. When I. . . But Then I . . . . I am so thankful I. . . . . It should be. When God. . . . In His Mercy, God. . . . . But then God. . . . . [1Pe 2:24 ESV] He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.     Intro to the Gospel of Mark

    Gospel Survey of Mark; the Action Gospel! Who Wrote it and when? Mark: No name in the book. So how do we know. Early church fathers. It is cited by Papias, Irenaeus, the Muratorian Canon (most likely), Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Origen, and Jerome. Papias, for example, writes:3 And the elder said this: “Mark became an interpreter of Peter; as many things as he remembered he wrote down accurately (though certainly not in order4) the things said or done by the Lord. For he neither heard the Lord nor followed him, but he came later—as he said with reference to Peter who taught whenever the need arose,5 but he did not [teach] according to the arrangement of the oracles of the Lord,6 with the result that Mark did not err7 when he thus wrote certain things as he recalled them. For he planned out one goal ahead of time,8 namely, to leave out nothing which he heard and not to falsify any [of the words of Peter].”9 When & Where The earliest gospel with an authorship of between A.D. 55 to A.D. 70. In Rome. Mark has connections Peter [Act 12:12 ESV] When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.     Thanksgiving It's easier to overflow or spill over with Thankfulness when you know why God put you here on earth and you are in sync with God's purpose. Thanksgiving: Family, Friends, Food, Football A comfortable home, a working car, a favorite toy; gun, atv, tv. . . God gives us these things for our enjoyment. But here is the one thing God gives man, that truly gives a rich meaning to everything. Jesus! The Gospel: [Mar 10:45 ESV] For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." [Rom 6:23 ESV] For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. If you ever broke any of the 10 commandments even once, you sinned against God. God is Good / He is Just, He is obligated by His nature to punish evil. Your evil and you with it. [2Co 5:21 ESV] For our sake He (God) made Him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God.     The Local Church; Why be a Member? God has created the Local Church to provide for His Local Elect. [1Co 1:2 ESV] 2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: The church is the “called out group” Ek out of, from, by, away from Kaleō to call God has called you out of the world, planted you in Himself, with others, given you a new family and wants you to grow up, in responsibility. [Act 2:41 ESV] So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. [Act 2:42 ESV] And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. [Act 2:43 ESV] And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 1. The Apostle's Teaching 2. Fellowship 3. Breaking of Bread. 4. Prayer The Church has two Ordinances Baptism Communion Why the local church? You are not Alone. The very internal struggles you are going through, so is everyone else. You are Commanded to Grow Up. Churches plural in a location [Gal 1:1 ESV] Paul, an apostle--not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- [Gal 1:2 ESV] and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: [1Th 1:1 ESV] Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. Jesus speaks to the seven churches in Revelation Did the church have a flow chart, did it have an organized structure? [Heb 13:17 ESV] Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus are what's known as Pastoral Epistles, Instructing Timothy and Titus how to shepherd their local church. There are Elders AND Deacons [1Ti 3:1 ESV] The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Overseer: episkopē Episcopal [1Ti 3:8 ESV] Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. Deacon: diakonos one who executes the commands of another, esp. of a master, a servant, attendant, minister the servant of a king a deacon, one who, by virtue of the office assigned to him by the church, cares for the poor and has charge of and distributes the money collected for their use This creates a plurality of leadership The Big Idea: God saves people in an area. They begin to meet together regularly for PURPOSE. Does the Bible Teach the idea of Membership? Just as baptism identifies you as a follower of Jesus, and all the responsibilities there of. Becoming an “official member” of a local church, identifies and adds responsibility/ accountability. Member: a person, animal, plant, group, etc., that is part of a society. a constituent part of any structural or composite whole Constituent; serving to compose or make up a thing; component: ** Get To VS Ought To** Church Discipline reveals The idea of Officially Belonging. [Mat 18:15-17 ESV] 15 "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Concerning Church Discipline of an Unrepentant man. [1Co 5:4 ESV] When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, [1Co 5:5 ESV] you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. [1Co 5:12 ESV] For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? [1Co 5:13 ESV] God judges those outside. "Purge the evil person from among you." Church discipline is for the purpose of reconciliation. It's an Ought To that is also a Get To. You have a place to belong. [Heb 10:24 ESV] And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, [Heb 10:25 ESV] not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. One Another-ing [Jhn 13:34 ESV] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. [Jhn 13:35 ESV] By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." [Jas 5:14 ESV] Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. [Jas 5:15 ESV] And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.     Stewardship as an American Christian Means we protect the house God has placed us into. Protecting what we have is the best way to “Love Our Neighbor”. Crayon Theology: Using Theology as an excuse to not be responsibility/stewardship. Pseudo Dichotomy; Religion or Politics. Real Hope Vs Crayon Theology Work Vs Worry Individual Responsibility IS Freedom Imagine a house. • Individual freedom has been given to all. • Laws were established to govern morals. 10 commandments. • Laws were established so the government so there would be no state religion. • No laws were established to determine your level of success and flourishing. Hold the house up, even if they are trying to kick the walls in. If you vote for a platform that celebrates the murder of infants, you are hating your neighbor. If you vote for a platform that promotes the destruction of the family, you are hating your neighbor. 1. Concerning politics, know the obvious. There are two platforms with a specific agenda, regardless of the presidential nominee. Love Your Neighbor, even if they are your enemy. A real application of loving your neighbor. [Mar 12:30 ESV] And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' [Mar 12:31 ESV] The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Tolerating sin/evil is hating your neighbor. The command of Stewardship from the beginning. [Gen 2:15 ESV] The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. The Command of Stewardship of and for the Church. God answers:  I will send the Chaldeans to invade Israel.  [Hab 1:6 ESV] For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, who march through the breadth of the earth, to seize dwellings not their own. Chapter 2: God says He will punish the Chaldeans for being evil.  God does as He wills.  [Hab 2:13 ESV] Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts that peoples labor merely for fire, and nations weary themselves for nothing? Chapter 3.  Habakkuk prays and worships.  He was just told that evil nation He is living in will be destroyed in his lifetime. The nation that destroys his nation will be destroyed.  (Where did God say He would prosper Habakkuk with a new chariot, lots of money and a happy family. So go buy yourself something nice.) In the prayer, Habakkuk talks about How God will judge all the nations of the earth with no mercy, to save His anointed people.  [Hab 3:13 ESV] You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah Circumstantially Habakkuk has been told he is going to witness a whole lot of bad things in his lifetime  [Hab 3:16 ESV] I hear, and my body trembles; my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us. Now look as he yields and puts his trust in God.  [Hab 3:17 ESV] Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, [Hab 3:18 ESV] yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. Then he ends with.  [Hab 3:19 ESV] GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer's; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. Just this week:   A Politician will be charged, deadly force by law enforcement and a deadly attack on law enforcement in Texas.  What about your struggles? Sick loved ones, struggling to pay bills, broken homes.  What sins still have you trapped?   The peace of God is not about your circumstances.  It's about your relationship to the one who made you.  Are you God's enemy? [Rom 8:6 ESV] For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. [Rom 8:7 ESV] For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. [Rom 8:8 ESV] Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. [Jas 4:4 ESV] You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. How can we become friends with God and not His enemy? [2Co 5:17 ESV] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. [2Co 5:18 ESV] All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; [2Co 5:19 ESV] that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Through Christ The gospel is historical event where Jesus died for sinners on the cross, was buried, and rose from the dead (1 Cor. 15:1-4).   His death was a sacrifice that turns away the wrath of God (1 John 2:2).   This is the only way to be saved from God's righteous judgment upon those who have sinned by breaking his Law. Jesus is the one who died for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2).   He is the only way to God the Father (John 14:6).   He alone reveals God (Matt. 11:27).   He has all authority in heaven and earth (Matt. 28:18).   It is only through Him that you can be saved from God's wrath (Eph. 2:3).   He can forgive you of your sin (Luke 5:20; Matt. 9:1-8).   He can remove the guilt that is upon your soul.   Jesus can set you free from the bondage of sin that blinds your eyes, weakens your soul, and brings you to despair.   He can do this because He bore sin in His body on the cross (1 Peter. 2:24) so that those who trust in Him would be saved. Rejoice:  to be glad; take delight also means: revel, exult, glory. [Phl 4:4 ESV] Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. [Phl 4:5 ESV] Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; [Phl 4:6 ESV] do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.     4th of July; Individual Responsibility Equals Freedom

    4th of July, 2016 Live as a Christian Where You Are.  If you have more Freedom in America as a Christian then more is required of you. Individual responsibility = Freedom.  The moment you hand your individual responsibility to a government you lose that freedom and become a slave to that government.  Moral Laws are all you can enforce as a government.   Murder, Lying, con-artist  Stealing:  embezzling  Governments carry the sword for a reason.  When a government creates laws to prevent a sin before it happens, that is when you lose your freedom and no government can manage what they create.  Thought Laws:  “hate crimes”  “hate speech”   God's Plan for the Local Church [Eph 4:11 ESV] And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, [Eph 4:12 ESV] to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, To What End?  To Grow Up.  [Eph 4:13 ESV] until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, [Eph 4:14 ESV] so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. [Eph 4:15 ESV] Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, [Eph 4:16 ESV] from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Anger is not Sin.  [Eph 4:26 ESV] Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, [Eph 4:27 ESV] and give no opportunity to the devil. Individual Responsibility . . . there it is.  [Eph 4:28 ESV] Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Watch your mouth. [Eph 4:29 ESV] Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. rotten, putrefied  For the Christian, the Holy Spirit is IN YOU.  [Eph 4:30 ESV] And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.     Learn to Discern Enemy Has One Play Book and one goal:  to be God. [2Th 2:3 ESV] Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, [2Th 2:4 ESV] who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. God is restraining him. [2Th 2:6 ESV] And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. [2Th 2:7 ESV] For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only He who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. [2Th 2:8 ESV] And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. Counterfeit Everything [2Th 2:9 ESV] The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, [2Th 2:10 ESV] and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. God gives over people [2Th 2:11 ESV] Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, [2Th 2:12 ESV] in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. How is a Christian to React and Respond to the Orlando Event? Do Not Be Deceived.  [1Co 6:9 NASB] Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,  [1Co 6:10 ESV] nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. That is a list of what Unrepented people do.  Sin is the great equalizer. [Rom 3:23 ESV] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [1Co 6:11 ESV] And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. How should a Christians respond to the Orlando Event? 1. Unpack it correctly. Let the Bible inform you. A member of Islam murdered sodomites.  Darkness attacked darkness. A unrepented lost person of a godless religion attacked unrepeneted lost people indulging in fornication, idolatry, adultery, effeminate, homosexuality, drunkenness. That event was a demonic nightmare from beginning to end.  [1Jo 3:4 ESV] Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. The devil's goal was to create counterfeit martyrs out of sodomites. So people will support LGBT. . . . .  It worked!    Reminder, God gives over people to their evil.  [2Th 2:11 ESV] Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, [2Th 2:12 ESV] in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. I saw so-called Christian ministers “standing in unity” with LGBT. ..  Never affirm evil for any reason.  Your sadness should be that unrepented people perished horrifically in their sin.  2. Respond Correctly How did Jesus respond to a massacre at a synagogue in His Day?  He told them to repent.  [Luk 13:1 ESV] There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. [Luk 13:2 ESV] And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? [Luk 13:3 ESV] No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. [Luk 13:4 ESV] Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? [Luk 13:5 ESV] No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish." Never Affirm sin. For any reason.   Sodomites, fornicators, adulterers and drunkards LGBT. . .  [Jde 1:22 ESV] And have mercy on those who doubt; [Jde 1:23 ESV] save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. How do we save others and show mercy?  Learn how to Share the Gospel.  Jesus Commands IT! The Righteousness of God [Rom 1:16 ESV] For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. [Rom 1:17 ESV] For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith." Speak It & Cut and Paste. [2Ti 3:16 ESV] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [2Ti 3:17 ESV] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.     Is this all worth it? Is Jesus worth following? [Jhn 10:24 ESV] So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus cured the nobleman's son (John 4:46-47). The great haul of fishes (Luke 5:1-11). Jesus cast out an unclean spirit (Mark 1:23-28). Jesus cured Peter's mother-in-law of a fever (Mark 1:30-31). Jesus healed a leper (Mark 1:40-45). Jesus healed the centurion's servant (Matthew 8:5-13). Jesus raised the widow's son from the dead (Luke 7:11-18). Jesus stilled the storm (Matthew 8:23-27). Jesus cured two demoniacs (Matthew 8:28-34). Jesus cured the paralytic (Matthew 9:1-8). Jesus raised the ruler's daughter from the dead (Matthew 9:18-26). Jesus cured a woman of an issue of blood (Luke 8:43-48). Jesus opened the eyes of two blind men (Matthew 9:27-31). Jesus loosened the tongue of a man who could not speak (Matthew 9:32-33). Jesus healed an invalid man at the pool called Bethesda (John 5:1-9). Jesus restored a withered hand (Matthew 12:10-13). Jesus cured a demon-possessed man (Matthew 12:22). Jesus fed at least five thousand people (Matthew 14:15-21). Jesus healed a woman of Canaan (Matthew 15:22-28). Jesus cured a deaf and mute man (Mark 7:31-37). Jesus fed at least four thousand people (Matthew 15:32-39). Jesus opened the eyes of a blind man (Mark 8:22-26). Jesus cured a boy who was plagued by a demon (Matthew 17:14-21).     Christology 7 building His church, interceding for us, and reigning over all things. Jesus Christ is Lord; we praise His holy Name forever. Building His Church, [Mat 16:16 ESV] Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." [Mat 16:17 ESV] And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. [Mat 16:18 ESV] And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Visible & Invisible Church.  The Visible church is evidence of the Invisible Church.  What about all the different denominations? Prepping for hunting season, you walk in the woods and look for evidence of deer.  Tracks, scat and scrapings.  The Invisible Church On the hunt for new creations.  Strange People.  [2Co 5:16 ESV] From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. However, my relationship to Jesus as my King, demands that I be involved in a local church, not just a member, but involved.  The question you want to have settled in your heart.  Are you part of the invisible church?  Does Jesus own you, rule over you, and command you and do you push forward to obey? I am Christian because Jesus saved me.  Invisible I'm an involved Member of a local church because Jesus commands it.   Visible.     Christology 6 He is our Prophet, Priest, and King,  Prophet [Heb 1:1 ESV] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, [Heb 1:2 ESV] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. [Heb 1:3 ESV] He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Jesus states where His Authority is from.  [Jhn 12:49 ESV] For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment--what to say and what to speak. [Jhn 12:50 ESV] And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me."     Christology 4 For us, He kept the Law,  atoned for sin, and satisfied God's wrath.  He took our filthy rags and gave us His righteous robe. We affirm that Jesus is the perfect and supreme image of God, and that to be truly human is to be conformed to His image. We also deny that sin is inherent to true humanity or that Jesus' sinlessness is incompatible with His being truly human. People who believe in free will believe evil is part of that “freedom”.  Yet, Christ as a human truly had a free will, yet evil or sin was not in His nature.  That is a what a free will looks like.  Therefore He had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (Heb. 2:17–18). Propitiate (To make favorably inclined: appease) Propitiation:  the act of propitiating, conciliation.  1 Cor.  15:45 Jesus is the Last Adam So it is written:  The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.  Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.  Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.  But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.  Grace:  Giving us what we DON'T deserve.   And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin.  1,2,3, 4 punch For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation,  but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.  For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.  Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.  *difference: “all men” extent vs effect For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.  Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom. 5:12–21).   For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Tim. 2:5). In the statement it begins with “For Us” God want's to make sure one thing is settled for you.  Your Salvation.  1. That You Are going to Heaven 2. How you are going to heaven.  Why?  How you live your life, is based on what you know.  Someone who truly understands and feels loved by God, wants to Love God back.  1. By pursuing Him. TO KNOW HIM.   And OBEY HIM.  2. The Bible is the most direct way to Know God.  3. The Christian is compelled by LOVE to want to know what is in the Bible.  Because that is how we pursue God.  1John 3:1.   But whoever obeys His Word, truly in this person the Love of God has been perfected.     He was born of the Virgin Mary and lived among us. Crucified, dead, and buried, He rose on the third day, ascended to heaven, and will come again in glory and judgment. Lived a sinless life among us.  *Last week I stated that God could not lose to sin and the devils temptations.   Subtly shift from Christ's humanity to His deity.    Humanity, could not lose.  1 Sinless, w/ knowledge of who He is  2. Filled with Holy Spirit.  He lived among us.  [2Co 5:21 ESV] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Only a sinless offering can be offered for sin.  Son of man and Son of God [Rom 1:1 ESV] Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, [Rom 1:2 ESV] which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, [Rom 1:3 ESV] concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh [Rom 1:4 ESV] and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, Ascended into Heaven.  [Act 1:9 ESV] And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. [Act 1:10 ESV] And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, [Act 1:11 ESV] and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? Jesus comes and goes on His terms, not His creature's terms.  His return is in Glory and Judgement.  2 things most people do not want.  Remember God's most offensive character trait to a fallen race, is His Holiness.  The Return of Christ. No Mistaking It, Glory [Mat 24:21 ESV] For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. [Mat 24:22 ESV] And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. [Mat 24:23 ESV] Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it. [Mat 24:24 ESV] For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. [Mat 24:25 ESV] See, I have told you beforehand. [Mat 24:26 ESV] So, if they say to you, 'Look, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out. If they say, 'Look, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. [Mat 24:27 ESV] For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. [Mat 24:28 ESV] Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather. [Mat 24:29 ESV] "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. [Mat 24:30 ESV] Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Judgement Jesus will be your Judge.  More than that.  [Mat 25:31 ESV] "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. [Mat 25:32 ESV] Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. Get on God's Good side.  Let Him forgive you.  Admit you need forgiving.  Yield to Jesus, Ask Jesus to take your life.  Be your boss, captain and leader.  Yield to Him, ask Him to lead you. Then read your Bible so you can get orders of what to do.  Live the life you were created to live.  [2Co 5:14 ESV] For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; [2Co 5:15 ESV] and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. [2Co 5:16 ESV] From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.     The Importance of Why Jesus HAD to be raised from the Dead.  Morning Service:  The most important holiday for Christians is not Christmas but Easter.  Because in Easter we celebrate the victory of Jesus over our sin, over death, over evil.  Jesus has reconciled man to God by paying a debt you and I cannot pay.  [1Co 15:12 ESV] Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? [1Co 15:13 ESV] But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. [1Co 15:14 ESV] And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. [1Co 15:15 ESV] We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. [1Co 15:16 ESV] For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. [1Co 15:17 ESV] And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. [1Co 15:18 ESV] Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. [1Co 15:19 ESV] If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. Justified consecration to make or declare sacred; set apart or dedicate to the service of a deity: consecration, purification the effect of consecration sanctification of heart and life [2Th 2:13 ESV] But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. [2Th 2:14 ESV] To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pause Right There.  The Love of Christ.  Clearly is not “creature comforts”.  True Life; The Real You is already been made alive. The Real You is already Immortal.  [2Co 5:4 ESV] For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened--not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. The Love of Christ is the Relationship forever connected with Your Creator. So that every little detail of  your life, from what socks you will wear to your career, relationships.  All have an eternal meaning and purpose.  More than a Conqueror.  [Rom 8:37 ESV] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. [Rom 8:38 ESV] For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, [Rom 8:39 ESV] nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Creation's enemies simply cannot beat the Creator.  Sin & Death, Sanctification and Eternal Life [Rom 6:19 ESV] I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. Do not resist the one who is evil. Slap, stealing, forcing, and begging.  These are not examples of life threatening situations.   These are examples of “unfair or unjust” experiences we have with our neighbors.  But what about life-threatening situations? Breaking and entering? Hurting your neighbor?  Justice for a thief (not a murderer or rapist) [Exo 22:2 ESV]  If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him, [Exo 22:3 ESV] but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him.  He (The Thief) shall surely pay. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. This is not an issue of endangerment to personal-self or family. This is an issue of stealing.  The Westminster Catechism uses a term called General Equity.  What overarching moral law is governing the situation? And what clear commands has God Given us?  Command of God for men to LOVE for their wife and family.  [Eph 5:25 ESV] Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, [Eph 5:26 ESV] that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, [Eph 5:27 ESV] so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Example:  Mission Trip training.  Prepping for a trip.  Governing laws Cultural norms.  Why: as Christians we don't want to do anything that is perceived Offensive or Sinful.  Be Subject to Governing Authorities. [Rom 13:1 ESV] Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. [Rom 13:2 ESV] Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. [Rom 13:3 ESV] For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, [Rom 13:4 ESV] for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. [Rom 13:5 ESV] Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. You are a Christians in US of America.   Over our church door as you are leaving, says you are now entering the mission field.  Does our governing authorities restrict its citizens from owning a weapon? On the contraire, the founding fathers (Christians & Deists) made sure it was a right and duty to keep the citizens armed.  Encouraging its citizens to a higher calling of responsibility.  Concerning Lethal Self-Defense VS Pacifism. Lethal Self-Defense is implied, because that is the purpose of weapon; sword or gun.  Why spend time talking about this?  What does it look like to be a Christian living in America? God has an answer for us from the Bible.   A few weeks ago I was critical of a sermon given by John Piper concerning Christians owning weapons.  However the first part of that very sermon gave me great hope.  John quotes from Ed Stetzer, President of LifeWay Research. The statistics from the 2012 survey by the Pew Research Center for Religion and Public Life.  People claiming to have no religious affiliation has grown. What we see from Pew is not the death-knell of Christianity, but another indication that Christianity in America is being refined. From 2007 to 2014, the number of evangelicals in America rose from 59.8 million to 62.2 million. Christianity isn't dying and no research says it is; the statistics about Christians in America are simply starting to show a clearer picture of what American Christianity is becoming — less nominal, more defined, and more outside of the mainstream of American culture. Stetzer puts it like this: The cultural cost of calling yourself “Christian” is starting to outweigh the cultural benefit, so those who do not identify as a “Christian” according to their convictions are starting to identify as “nones” because it's more culturally savvy. Christianity is losing, and will continue to lose, its home field advantage; no one can (or should) deny this. However, the numerical decline of self-identified American Christianity is more of a purifying bloodletting than it is an arrow to the heart of the church. My bigger concern.   It's important to know as much Bible as possible that is why I don't mean digging into Biblical Truth for any topic.  However, if when Christians have 101 reasons to miss church. A clear open act of rebellion to Jesus. I am very scared for you.  No Christian should be comfortable habitually missing church.  WE all need to ask ourselves, do we love Jesus and will be obey Jesus our LORD? Because Jesus our Lord Commands us to meet on a regular basis.  [Heb 10:24 ESV] And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, [Heb 10:25 ESV] not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.     Sermon Notes Concerning the Command to Love God Loving God [Deu 6:4 ESV] "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [Deu 6:5 ESV] You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Jesus points out the highest Command in Matt, Mark and Luke.  [Mat 22:37 ESV] And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. [Mat 22:38 ESV] This is the great and first commandment. [Mat 22:39 ESV] And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [Mat 22:40 ESV] On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." Joshua exhorts the people.  [Jos 23:11 ESV] Be very careful, therefore, to love the LORD your God. The Ten Commandments  First 4 is your relationship towards God Six towards fellow mankind.  1. The 5 books of the OT 2. The Jewish Oral Law Jesus Concerning the Law of God.  (Why, Law; Justice is Good) [Mat 5:17 ESV] "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. The OT Law.  Civil: Contextual to the Jewish Nation.  Ceremonial: Fulfilled in Christ.   Moral: The response of the Saved towards God and Mankind This Question is illustrated and answered in Acts and Galatians.  Should Christians follow all the OT Civil Laws or Ceremonial Laws? [Act 15:10 ESV] Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? [Act 15:11 ESV] But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will." Ceremonial Law:  Hebrews 7-9.  (There is no ceremony left that can reconcile man to God) [Heb 9:24 ESV] For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. The Book of Galatians Paul confronts Peter about Gentiles Believers, not being burdened with the Jewish Laws.   Back to Jesus. Jesus now mentions  “It was Said” It is Written,  the OT.  It is Said, Oral tradition.  Sometimes they agree, sometimes they don't.  Jesus goes straight for highest expression of the Moral Commandments.  Murder: [Mat 5:21 ESV] "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.' [Mat 5:22 ESV] But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire. Adultery and Fornication: [Mat 5:27 ESV] "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' [Mat 5:28 ESV] But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. [Mat 5:31 ESV] "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' [Mat 5:32 ESV] But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Not Telling the Truth [Mat 5:33 ESV] "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.' [Mat 5:34 ESV] But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, [Mat 5:37 ESV] Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil. Justice VS Revenge, to the highest form – LOVE.  Love and Justice are not in conflict.  [Mat 5:38 ESV] "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 1. The Law:  Justice; That is Good. 2. “It was said”. Twisted for the sake of Revenge, it is bad. 3. Love the evil person, a. no room for revenge and God will see that Justice is met.  [Mat 5:39 ESV] But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. [Mat 5:46 ESV] For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? [Mat 5:47 ESV] And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? And then spend a million dollars on this. You don't need the Bible or the Holy Spirit to persuade human beings to protect themselves. But to bring into being a church of people who rejoice when they are treated unjustly — that is a miracle that you should give your whole life to. Nothing is harder. Nothing more amazing. Nothing more beautiful. Our Savior was beautified at that horrible mount! John Piper is making the case that Christians, just like Jesus did not resist evil, neither should we.  He used 1 Peter 4:12-19 I am concerned because it is not a full message. It is encouraging Christian men to continue to be lazy, not push into greater levels of responsibility. Which includes providing for your family, your church. Your ministry and evangelism.  The outcome of this message is disarming Christians in every sense of the word from Doing Good. Lazy & Irresponsible, calling it “Do not worry”. Not protecting our family and neighbors and calling it “Love”.  Not loving our enemies with Wisdom and Discernment and calling it “Love”. We remember Justice is Good. But what does it look like for a Christian to live Justly?Justice VS RevengeJustice VS Love In Christ you are standing on the moral high ground.  Use your moral high ground to pull people up and encourage them.  [Rom 12:17 ESV] Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.[Rom 12:18 ESV] If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.[Rom 12:19 ESV] Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."[Rom 12:20 ESV] To the contrary, "if your enemy is ahungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head."[Rom 12:21 ESV] Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Vengeance is bad, don't do it.  What about Defense?  But Confrontation is Good.  Before Jesus went to the Cross, there was Passion Week.  Did Jesus ever confront people?  Enemies and Friends?   YES! Jesus confronts His Friends[Mat 16:22 ESV] And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you."[Mat 16:23 ESV] But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. Different Kinds of Suffering.  Ever heard the saying “That's their cross to carry. “ Sin and Suffering because of the curse. The Curse; creation is going to fight you.  Toil in work. Your Sin;  laziness, Fool (opposite of wisdom),  Others Sin; all of the above, inter-relational,  Suffering because of the Curse. [Gen 3:17 ESV] And to Adam he said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;[Gen 3:18 ESV] thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.[Gen 3:19 ESV] By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Our Sinful nature.  Paul details the Christian struggle with the sinful flesh. [Rom 7:24 ESV] Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?[Rom 7:25 ESV] Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. Other people's Sin. The Blessing of Fellowship:  “God uses the sinful nature of other Christians to expose your sinful nature so you can repent.” But in your job, they may not be Christian.  This just got more challenging.  Suffering for Christ.  [Luk 9:23 ESV] And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.[Luk 9:24 ESV] For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.[Luk 9:25 ESV] For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?[Luk 9:26 ESV] For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. When the last time your scheduled was even challenged doing the one of the following?EvangelizingMinistryFellowshipDiscipleship Think back to the last time you suffered persecution, from work or school or friends? We need to know the difference between suffering for Jesus and suffering for being foolish and lazy and sinful.  After Passion week; a week of complete and utter Confrontation with the religion leaders. Wrecking the money tables, calling the religious leaders, sons of the devil and white washed graves.  The Only Time Jesus did not resist evil was to go die on the cross. To be our sacrifice for sin. [Mat 26:52 ESV] Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.[Mat 26:53 ESV] Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?[Mat 26:54 ESV] But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?" Jesus' path to the Cross was the most powerful aggressive move of Justice against the enemy.  It was the killing stroke to evil.   [1Co 15:55 ESV] "O death, where is your victory? Last week was Worry VS Work.  If you are not providing for yourself and your family, it is questionable if you are even a Christian. A Christian Command to work is in direct conflict of the Entitlement mind set.   This Week is Worry VS Managing.  Increasing your Responsibility. The conflict is too many Christian especially men use Don't Worry as an excuse to not manage better. A hap-hazard approach VS a well thought out plan.  Seek First His Kingdom[Mat 6:31-33 ESV] 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Matt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.What does it look like to Seek God's Kingdom and God's Righteousness? It's an issue of priority and practice. Which means the real issue is where your heart is?  Do you really care about the right things?The God things!Don't Worry, does not mean Don't Be Responsible. SEEK:   Does not mean sit around and wait.   to seek in order to findto seek a thingto seek [in order to find out] by thinking, meditating, reasoning, to enquire intoto seek after, seek for, aim at, strive afterto seek i.e. require, demandto crave, demand something from someoneIt means Take time and energy to Chase God. His Kingdom:royal power, kingship, dominion, rulenot to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdomof the royal power of Jesus as the triumphant Messiahof the royal power and dignity conferred on Christians in the Messiah's kingdoma kingdom, the territory subject to the rule of a kingused in the N.T. to refer to the reign of the Messiah His Righteousness: in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to Godthe doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of Godintegrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and actingin a narrower sense, justice or the virtue which gives each his due What does that look like in a normal day?Let's look at Monday. Wake Up, Get your coffee, Before newspaper or Facebook.   1. Today, I will study with another ChristianEvangelism – Today someone needs to hear about Jesus.  * A Christian is always looking for better/wiser ways to manage what God has given you. It's your Christian duty to continue to mature/grow up/ get better.  Celebrate Growth Points & Then keep on growing up.  Gaining WisdomBeing Sanctified. [Phl 1:6 ESV] And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.[Heb 10:14 ESV] For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. 1. has perfected;  Past Tense.  It's Done 2.     January Sermon Series:    New Year, New You;  Be Responsible. [Rom 12:1 ESV] I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. [Rom 12:2 ESV] Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. First Week:  Do not Worry VS Be Responsible.  There was a trending hashtag yesterday:  #ResistCapitalism  Ignorant people blaming economics. Suggesting a form of socialism to provide equally for all.  Isn't that Godly, Love thy Neighbor to provide for their needs? Not necessarily.  If you provide something for someone which robs them of their need to become responsible, you are hurting and hating them.   If a grown up is not taking responsibility to provide their own food, shelter, clothing, etc. They are practicing evil. If you help them practice their evil, how are you loving them? AA and Al Anon calls that Enabling.  When a government enables people to be Irresponsible, it's called Socialism.  Do Not Worry.  [Mat 6:25 ESV] "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? [Mat 6:25 ESV] "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? [Mat 6:26 ESV] Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? [Mat 6:27 ESV] And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? [Mat 6:28 ESV] And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, [Mat 6:29 ESV] yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. [Mat 6:30 ESV] But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? [Mat 6:31 ESV] Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' [Mat 6:32 ESV] For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. [Mat 6:33 ESV] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. [Mat 6:34 ESV] "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. The Key word here is Anxious/ Worry to be anxious to be troubled with cares verb (used without object), worried, worrying. to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret. Anxious: full of mental distress or uneasiness because of fear of danger or misfortune; greatly worried; solicitous: Think of what worry does to you. You can't work good In a work environment worry makes you adopt the CYB mindset.  Less productive, which increases the very risk of the very thing you are worried about.  It messes with your relationships. w/ spouse, children, family.  When family challenges come, worry makes you mean, impatient and unstable with the people closest to you.  [Pro 12:25 ESV] Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. Jesus did not say, Do not Work, He said, Do not worry.  When we worry, we are demonstrating we are NOT trusting in God to provide.  [Psa 20:7 ESV] Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. The Phrase:  God helps those who help themselves popularized by Ben Franklin, which is not a Bible Verse.  Now concerning Salvation: This is very Untrue. It does not apply.  God helps the helpless.  Salvation is 100% work of God.  Concerning one's Daily needs. Food, Clothing, Shelter.  I believe this Truth falls into General Grace & God's Universal Truths.  [Mat 5:45 ESV] so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. That is why there are many wealthy and affluent God haters.  For Christians Especially, We are Commanded to Work!  [2Th 3:6-15 ESV] 6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.  7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. 9 It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate.  10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.  11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.  12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.  13 As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.  14 If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. 15 Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.      [1Ti 5:8 ESV] 8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. [1Th 4:11-12 ESV] 11 and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,  Aspire:   to strive earnestly, make it one's aim 12 so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one. A Christian is Synonymous with Becoming Responsible.

Embrace purpose & call. What about you?Do you identify with the any of these chapters?What chapter are you in right now? [Jhn 6:43 ESV] Jesus answered them, "Do not grumble among yourselves.[Jhn 6:44 ESV] No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.[Jhn 6:45 ESV] It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me--[Jhn 6:46 ESV] not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.[Jhn 6:47 ESV] Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. Are you more interested in what God wants or what you want?Everything that keeps you busy on your schedule is in God's creation, not yours. Are the very things God has given you are the things you use to hate God. Hate God?  Well sure, if God is not part of your daily life, for any reason.In God's Universe, In God's Solar System, On God's Planet, In God's Country, In the Body God gave you, . . what part your daily schedule is set aside for God's Will?  [Jhn 3:16 ESV] "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.[Jhn 3:17 ESV] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. I can't make you a Christian, I can't make you love God. I can trick you into thinking you're a Christian, but I can't make you true Christian.  The Purpose & 5 Disciplines.  If this is bothering you that I bring this up every week?     Reanimated dead, the body is not really working. It's an inversed version of a live person.  Reminder of a zombieReal life zombies.[Eph 2:1 ESV] And you were dead in the trespasses and sins[Eph 2:2 ESV] in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience--[Eph 2:3 ESV] among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. Zombies are better organized than the movies.  The have leaders. “false teachers”[2Ti 3:2 ESV] For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,[2Ti 3:3 ESV] heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,[2Ti 3:4 ESV] treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,[2Ti 3:5 ESV] having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.[2Ti 3:6 ESV] For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,[2Ti 3:7 ESV] always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. The cure for zombies:  2 Ingredients The Holy Spirit & The Gospel Regeneration or Rebirth Definition of regeneration:  Greek word; paliggenesianew birth, reproduction, renewal, recreation, regeneration The Holy SpiritBefore and after; regeneration [Tit 3:3 ESV] For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.[Tit 3:4 ESV] But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,[Tit 3:5 ESV] he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,[Tit 3:6 ESV] whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,[Tit 3:7 ESV] so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Caused us to be born again[1Pe 1:3 ESV] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,[1Pe 1:4 ESV] to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,[1Pe 1:5 ESV] who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.     Zombie Hunting What is a zombie? Living dead or animated dead people. They are reanimated by either magic, or science or a virus, etc.  Zombies are fictional  Can anyone think of any famous zombies? Frankenstein, a mummy, Solemn Grundy, Minecraft,  What do zombies really look like?  However God talks about such creatures.  Creatures that are alive, but dead.  Real life zombies.[Eph 2:1 ESV] And you were dead in the trespasses and sins[Eph 2:2 ESV] in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience--[Eph 2:3 ESV] among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. [Rom 7:14 ESV] For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. [Rom 3:10 ESV] as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;[Rom 3:11 ESV] no one understands; no one seeks for God.[Rom 3:12 ESV] All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."[Rom 3:13 ESV] "Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." Zombies are better organized than the movies.  The have leaders. “false teachers”[2Ti 3:2 ESV] For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,[2Ti 3:3 ESV] heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,[2Ti 3:4 ESV] treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,[2Ti 3:5 ESV] having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.[2Ti 3:6 ESV] For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,[2Ti 3:7 ESV] always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Zombie detector,  The Word of God. First use the detector on yourself.  1.     Doctrinal Clarification Religion Encroaches;  A Salvation Issue. While in Antioch [Act 15:1 ESV] But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." A Salvation Issue!!  It's always about man “doing” something to earn Heaven.Man really wants to keep a little glory in our pockets.  Here is the doctrine of a church in Hampshire County We believe the Bible teachers that salvation – the forgiveness of sins – is only by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:9; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 1:18-19; 1 John 1:7We believe the Bible teaches that one receives God's grace by putting faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ “and being immersed into Christ”, but that none of these is sufficient in and of itself for the assurance of salvation. God's plan to sacrifice Christ is not enoughWe humans must finish the job.  The most theologically accurate way to call someone to repentance. In a debate with an atheist Sye Ten Bruggencate said the following. “Beg God to grant you repentance”. Why? Because a person can't repent unless God enables the person to do so.  Look at what Jesus says to disciples and fans. [Jhn 6:63 ESV] It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.[Jhn 6:64 ESV] But there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)[Jhn 6:65 ESV] And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."[Jhn 6:66 ESV] After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.In Galatians; Paul writes a whole letter about circumcision. [Act 15:2 ESV] And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question.[Act 15:3 ESV] So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers.[Act 15:4 ESV] When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they declared all that God had done with them. Christians who were Pharisees  [Act 15:5 ESV] But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, "It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses."[Act 15:6 ESV] The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter. Peter Speaks Up.[Act 15:7 ESV] And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.[Act 15:8 ESV] And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,[Act 15:9 ESV] and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. “Before I was done preaching the Holy Spirit came upon them.” (They were saved before they had done anything).  Don't force religion that not even we Jews could follow. [Act 15:10 ESV] Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?[Act 15:11 ESV] But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."[Act 15:12 ESV] And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. James Speaks[Act 15:13 ESV] After they finished speaking, James replied, "Brothers, listen to me.[Act 15:14 ESV] Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.[Act 15:15 ESV] And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,[Act 15:16 ESV] "'After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it,[Act 15:17 ESV] that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things[Act 15:18 ESV] known from of old.' Quote from Amos[Amo 9:11 ESV] "In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old,[Amo 9:12 ESV] that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name," declares the LORD who does this.  [Act 15:19 ESV] Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God,[Act 15:20 ESV] but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood.[Act 15:21 ESV] For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues." 1. Polluted by idols[1Co 8:1 ESV] Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.[1Co 8:13 ESV] Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.2. Sexual Immorality:  The only approved physical intimacy is between one man & one woman in the covenant relationship of marriage.  Everything else is evil. 3. Strangled and eating blood. [Gen 9:3 ESV] Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.[Gen 9:4 ESV] But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, The Letter[Act 15:23 ESV] with the following letter: "The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings.[Act 15:24 ESV] Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,[Act 15:25 ESV] it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,[Act 15:26 ESV] men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.[Act 15:27 ESV] We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.[Act 15:28 ESV] For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements:[Act 15:29 ESV] that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.     Acts 14 Polarized Reaction In Iconium [Act 14:1 ESV] Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.[Act 14:2 ESV] But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.[Act 14:3 ESV] So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.[Act 14:4 ESV] But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews and some with the apostles.[Act 14:5 ESV] When an attempt was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to mistreat them and to stone them,[Act 14:6 ESV] they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country,[Act 14:7 ESV] and there they continued to preach the gospel.     What is going on?  Why is evil celebrated in our country this week? History and sexual immorality.  History is attached via the confederate flag and the Government continues to hate God and promote great evil.  The Confederate Flag Attack. Freedom means Individual Responsibility.  If you cannot be individually morally responsible, you cannot have freedom.  You will lose your responsibility and become a slave.  Historically, the national sin of slavery, As states were unwilling to stop enslaving humans they separated themselves and said the Federal Government cannot tell individual states what to do.  1. They were correct. 2. However, they very objection they were raising to Federal government, they were doing to humans within their own states. 3. Sharing the Gospel has got to be Priority. [1Co 9:19 ESV] For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.[1Co 9:20 ESV] To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law.[1Co 9:21 ESV] To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law.[1Co 9:22 ESV] To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.[1Co 9:23 ESV] I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.[1Co 9:24 ESV] Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.[1Co 9:25 ESV] Every athlete exercises self-control in all things.     Paul and Barnabas 1st Missionary Journey   Paul has three missionary Journeys 1st Missionary Journey (Acts 13-14): 2nd Missionary Journey (Acts 15:36-18:22): 3rd Missionary Journey (Acts 18:23-20:38):   Ordination & Sending of Paul and Barnabas [Act 13:1 ESV] Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. [Act 13:2 ESV] While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." [Act 13:3 ESV] Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.     [Act 13:4 ESV] So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. First they go to the Synagogues.  [Act 13:5 ESV] When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them.   Who is bar-jesus? Creepy wizard who did not like the Gospel Bar-jesus;  means son of Jesus,  Not Jesus Christ but I.                    Elymas = "a wise man" A.             the Arabic name of the Jewish magnus or sorcerer Barjesus, Act 13:6   [Act 13:6 ESV] When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.   Proconsul is a  A Roman Deputy  [Act 13:7 ESV] He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. [Act 13:8 ESV] But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. [Act 13:9 ESV] But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him [Act 13:10 ESV] and said, "You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? [Act 13:11 ESV] And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.   Whoa, this dude has super powers! [Act 13:12 ESV] Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord. We will see what teaching astonished the proconsul!   Note:  John left them.  “this is too much for me”. [Act 13:13 ESV] Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem, [Act 13:14 ESV] but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.   Here is the teaching that astonished the Procunsul. [Act 13:15 ESV] After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it." [Act 13:16 ESV] So Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: "Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen. (Jews and non-jews) [Act 13:17 ESV] The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it. [Act 13:18 ESV] And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. [Act 13:19 ESV] And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. [Act 13:20 ESV] All this took about 450 years. And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. [Act 13:21 ESV] Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. [Act 13:22 ESV] And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, 'I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' [Act 13:23 ESV] Of this man's offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised.   He went from David directly to the Final King;  Jesus!   The herald of the King   John the Baptist [Act 13:24 ESV] Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. [Act 13:25 ESV] And as John was finishing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.' [Act 13:26 ESV] "Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. [Act 13:27 ESV] For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. [Act 13:28 ESV] And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed. [Act 13:29 ESV] And when they had carried out all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.   [Act 13:30 ESV] But God raised him from the dead,   [Act 13:31 ESV] and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people. [Act 13:32 ESV] And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers,     [Act 13:33 ESV] this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, "'You are my Son, today I have begotten you.' [Act 13:34 ESV] And as for the fact that he raised him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way, "'I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.' [Act 13:35 ESV] Therefore he says also in another psalm, "'You will not let your Holy One see corruption.'   David died so this prophecy was not about David but someone else.   [Act 13:36 ESV] For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption, [Act 13:37 ESV] but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. [Act 13:42 ESV] As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next Sabbath. [Act 13:43 ESV] And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. [Act 13:44 ESV] The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.   Now the whole city wants to here and have come out to the Jewish center.   Resistance?   Why? [Act 13:45 ESV] But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him.   [Act 13:46 ESV] And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles. [Act 13:47 ESV] For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'"   Paul quotes Isaiah. The high calling of the Jewish nation is to proclaim their King to the world. [Isa 49:6 ESV] he says: "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."     [Act 13:48 ESV] And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.   This is how it works.   You share the Gospel.   God Saves.   [Act 13:49 ESV] And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.   The unsaved, are not just indifferent tolerant unbelievers but outright violent and opposing enemies.   [Act 13:50 ESV] But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.     [Act 13:51 ESV] But they shook off the dust from their feet against them and went to Iconium. [Act 13:52 ESV] And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.   Acts 14 Polarized Reaction   In Iconium   [Act 14:1 ESV] Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. [Act 14:2 ESV] But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. [Act 14:3 ESV] So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. [Act 14:4 ESV] But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews and some with the apostles. [Act 14:5 ESV] When an attempt was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to mistreat them and to stone them, [Act 14:6 ESV] they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country, [Act 14:7 ESV] and there they continued to preach the gospel.  Slideshow Here

    Acts 12 Political Resistance [Act 12:1 ESV] About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church.[Act 12:2 ESV] He killed James the brother of John with the sword,[Act 12:3 ESV] and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. Which Herod is this?A. Herod Agrippa I was the son of Aristobulus and Berenice, and grandson of Herod the Great. After various changes in fortune, he gained the favour of Caligula and Claudius to such a degree that he gradually obtained the government of all of Palestine, with the title of king. He died at Caesarea, A.D. 44, at the age of 54, in the seventh [or the 4th, reckoning from the extension of his dominions by Claudius] year of his reign, just after having ordered James the apostle, son of Zebedee, to be slain, and Peter to be cast into prison: Acts 12:21 Herod = "heroic"The first Herod was the political leader when Jesus was born. The 2nd Herod was Herod “Antipas”This Herod was AgrippaHis son was Herod Agrippa the II [Act 12:4 ESV] And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. The Angelic Rescue[Act 12:5 ESV] So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.[Act 12:6 ESV] Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.[Act 12:7 ESV] And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, "Get up quickly." And the chains fell off his hands.[Act 12:8 ESV] And the angel said to him, "Dress yourself and put on your sandals." And he did so. And he said to him, "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me."[Act 12:9 ESV] And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.[Act 12:10 ESV] When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them of its own accord, and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel left him.[Act 12:11 ESV] When Peter came to himself, he said, "Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting." Go to His Local Church[Act 12:12 ESV] When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.[Act 12:13 ESV] And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.[Act 12:14 ESV] Recognizing Peter's voice, in her joy she did not open the gate but ran in and reported that Peter was standing at the gate.[Act 12:15 ESV] They said to her, "You are out of your mind." But she kept insisting that it was so, and they kept saying, "It is his angel!"[Act 12:16 ESV] But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened, they saw him and were amazed.[Act 12:17 ESV] But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, "Tell these things to James and to the brothers." Then he departed and went to another place. Meanwhile back at the local Government [Act 12:18 ESV] Now when day came, there was no little disturbance among the soldiers over what had become of Peter. Herod's Motive is not Justice. [Act 12:19 ESV] And after Herod searched for him and did not find him, he examined the sentries and ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent time there. Government Intrigue; Herod offers peace, gives a speech and God strikes him dead. [Act 12:20 ESV] Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they came to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastus, the king's chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food.[Act 12:21 ESV] On an appointed day Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat upon the throne, and delivered an oration to them.[Act 12:22 ESV] And the people were shouting, "The voice of a god, and not of a man!"[Act 12:23 ESV] Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last. If humanity in general is at war with God, of course the Governments of the world are also at war with God. [Psa 2:1 ESV] Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?[Psa 2:2 ESV] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,[Psa 2:3 ESV] "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us."[Psa 2:4 ESV] He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.[Psa 2:5 ESV] Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,[Psa 2:6 ESV] "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill."[Psa 2:7 ESV] I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you.[Psa 2:8 ESV] Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.[Psa 2:9 ESV] You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."[Psa 2:10 ESV] Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.[Psa 2:11 ESV] Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.[Psa 2:12 ESV] Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Taxpayer funding accounts for 41 percent of Planned Parenthood's revenue.Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit, currently holds more than $1.4 billion in net assets.37 babies an hour are sacrificed to demons and the president rejoices.  Flashback to Acts 4, when Peter and John are arrested for healing and proclaiming Jesus. [Act 4:19 ESV] But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,[Act 4:20 ESV] for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard."[Act 4:21 ESV] And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.[Act 4:22 ESV] For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.[Act 4:23 ESV] When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. The Church prayed from Psalms 2[Act 4:24 ESV] And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, "Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them,[Act 4:25 ESV] who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, "'Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain?[Act 4:26 ESV] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed'--[Act 4:27 ESV] for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,[Act 4:28 ESV] to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. Look at their prayer request[Act 4:29 ESV] And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness,[Act 4:30 ESV] while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus."[Act 4:31 ESV] And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. The Real Word of God increases. After Herod's death.[Act 12:24 ESV] But the word of God increased and multiplied.[Act 12:25 ESV] And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark. Share the Gospel[2Ti 4:1 ESV] I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:[2Ti 4:2 ESV] preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.[2Ti 4:3 ESV] For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,[2Ti 4:4 ESV] and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. Celebrate Communion[1Co 11:23 ESV] For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, [1Co 11:24 ESV] and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." [1Co 11:25 ESV] In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." [1Co 11:26 ESV] For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

    Memorial Day 2105 Temporal Life, Eternal Life 60 people at the Memorial service around a memorial. Of men and women who died in wars to fight and protect our country and our freedom. Folks visiting grave sites.  Annual Paw Paw Alumni Banquet.  Evening Schedule:  Tribute to Deceased Members: 1905-2015. 110 Years! [Psa 130:3 ESV] If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? [Rom 3:23 ESV] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, A Good God MUST punish sin. I did good, I went to church, I walked the isle, I prayed the sinners prayer, I was part of the Lions club, Kiwanis, I gave to the red cross, I believed in social justiceWill you come up with an excuses? I didn't know you were there, How was I supposed to know the Bible was the right religion? Will you blame God for your life?  You God placed my with my abusive, alcoholic, broke parents, You let my loved ones die in that accident,  your local church did me wrong, You made me have those sexual desires, You made me that way.  Let's look at the One and Only Right Answer!God so Loves the World.   Here is HOW God So Loved the World.  He sent someone to take His Wrath in Your Place. [Jhn 3:16 ESV] "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.[Jhn 3:17 ESV] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.Propitiation.  God's Righteous Judgement; Wrath is satisfied. [1Jo 2:2 ESV] He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.[1Jo 4:10 ESV] In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.How did God make Jesus the propitiation for our Sins? [2Co 5:21 ESV] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.Jesus is our substitute Sinner, even though He Never Sinned.God made Jesus the object of His Wrath to Satisfy His Justice.  God Mercy & Grace saved us from God's Justice.  [Rom 8:1 ESV] There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.[Rom 8:2 ESV] For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.[Rom 8:3 ESV] For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,[Rom 8:4 ESV] in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.Legal Transaction. Need volunteers.What do you do with this information?Admit: You are evil and deserve God's Justice. Trust: Jesus Christ substituted Himself in your place. Took God's punishment on your behalf. God can legally declare you justified before Himself and allow you a relationship with Him. Ask God to let the sacrifice of Jesus Christ be applied to you. Yield yourself to God as His servant and tell Him you will learn His Will and Obey.  Let's visit the Throne of God Again.  Here is the one and only right Answer. [Job 42:1 ESV] Then Job answered the LORD and said: [Job 42:5 ESV] I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;[Job 42:6 ESV] therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."I know I am an evil sinner deserving your Wrath.I stand here forgiven because You had Jesus take my punishment for me. Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord is the only reason I can come into your Heaven. I bring you nothing else.  God Commands everyone to repentActs 17:30 ESV / 5  The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, You need to trust in the deepest part of your heart, that it is only the sacrifice of Jesus Christ instead of you to satisfy the Justice of God that you deserve.  When Jesus returns it will be too late for anyone else. [2Th 1:7 ESV] and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels[2Th 1:8 ESV] in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.[2Th 1:9 ESV] They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,[2Th 1:10 ESV] when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.
