In this episode Mark talks about the British comedy drama series "After Life" created, written, produced, and directed by Ricky Gervais, who also plays the lead character Tony Johnson. The first season of the series premiered in 2019 on Netflix and it recently premiered its third and final season on 14 January, 2022. The series follows a local newspaper journalist who works for the Tambury Gazette, in the fictional town of Tambury, whose life is utterly effected when his wife, Lisa, dies of breast cancer and as a result Tony comes to feel and believe that does not want to on living. Although he contemplates suicide, Tony instead decides to punish other by telling everyone whatever is on his mind, however and whenever he feels like it - regardless of other people's feelings - because he no longer cares about anyone or anything. However, throughout the series we see Tony interact with various residents of the town of Tambury who try to help and support him through his time of grief, and in turn we see Tony help them and also learn from them about why life may still be worth living. The cast of series includes: Kerry Godliman, Tom Basden, Tony Way, Diane Morgan, Ashley Jensen, Jo Wilkinson, Rosie Conaty, and David Bradley. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/support
Ricky Gervais joins us on this week's show to discuss the finer points of blowing belly raspberries with Tony Way in After Life, plus Nell Tiger Free stops by to dispense childcare advice in the third season of Apple's Servant, where she and Boyd get into such varied topics as incest and the finer points of moth taming. In addition (and we apologise in advance) James finishes his rewatch of The Expanse just in time to watch the finale live, and proceeds to bang on about why it's amazing for what we can only hope is the last time (so sorry). Plus the team reviews bomb disposal thriller Trigger Point on ITV, comeback show Queens on Star, and Stanley Tucci's treasure-hunting adventure, La Fortuna, on AMC UK. NOTE: Ricky and Tony's After Life interview is, unusually, a spoiler interview and goes deep on lots of the third season's plot points, including the finale. If you've not seen it then you might want to do so first, or you can skip the interview entirely to preserve its secrets by avoiding 29:22-1:00:00.

LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with actor, comedian, writer and all round sincere talent TONY WAY!Pure goodies for you this week as Brett has a good old fashioned longform chat with Tony, and we all get to know each other that little bit more and it’s all lovely and cosy. I think I find it cosy because Brett recorded this with Tony back in them old pre-lockdown days so there’s that sense of TWO PEOPLE IN A ROOM TALKING! Anyway - it’s a really good one in any sense, as they get along great and Tony’s been in some ace stuff, so yo can expect to hear some jewels dropped on that very subject, including his bootcamp experience (I’ll leave that to him), SALACIOUS Tom Cruise stories (beat that, Buxton and Cornish!), the fine line between happy and emotionally repressed, Star Trek annoyances (I mean we all carry some, right?) and sequel controversies. I’m breaking all kinds of walls here by speaking in the first person throughout but may I say that I’m very impressed by his drum & bass knowledge when he talks about tracks that sampled Predator 2. That is WELL in my wheelhouse right there. Anyway - fourth wall all fixed and back to normal - please enjoy the brilliant TONY WAY!LINKS FOR THIS EPISODE:TONY on TWITTER!TONY on IMDB!AFTERLIFE!GIRL/HAJI!BRETT GOLDSTEIN on TWITTER!BRETT GOLDSTEIN on INSTAGRAM!BRETT GOLDSTEIN on PATREON!SUPERBOB - Brett's 2015 feature film!CORNERBOYS with BRETT & SCROOBIUS PIP!DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAM See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Wotcha, kids. It's a Christmas Ramble. A Chramble, yes, that's correct. Having said that, there's little actual festive content but there IS wrestling, Charles Dance, Arthur Scargill, Star Wars (1977's "Star Wars", no Force Awakens stuff here), Mean Girls 2, Tony Way, pushing the limits of what constitutes a "joke"etc. It's 48 minutes of your life you won't get back, so maybe multitask while you listen. Merry things, and a happy new things!
