We are Lutherans — this is not something we hide. Neither do we hide the problems in our church body (in fact, we highlight them on this very podcast). However, that we recognize there are problems does not mean that we intend to leave. We remember our Confirmation Oath and we take it seriously: Do you intend to continue steadfast in this confession and Church and to suffer all, even death, rather than fall away from it? We each answered “Yes.” to this question, at different times and in different congregations, but in the same Synod and in the same faith. We intend to remain steadfast to the end, come what may. Our Lutheran forebears have suffered much through the centuries for the truth of God's Word — persecution by pope and emperor, the Thirty Years' War (including the siege and sack of Magdeburg), suspicion and hostility from the State, the abiding interest of Satan and his minions, et cetera —, and we will follow in their footsteps if God wills it. It is our firm conviction that Lutheranism is the correct teaching of God's truth. In this episode, we (briefly) cover our reasons for becoming and remaining Lutheran, and we make clear that we are not going anywhere. We will fight for our Synod, because she is worth defending. “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Subscribe to the podcast here. Today is the Day Changemakers

Welcome to Today is the Day Changemakers episode 3! This week Jodi interviews Toni Pergolin, President & CEO of Bancroft, and author of the book titled "Too Important to Fail: Leadership Lessons for Nonprofits".  Toni has won several awards including being honored as a Women of Excellence by SJ Magazine and winning the Campbell's Soup Extraordinary Leadership Award. Bancroft is a leading regional nonprofit provider of programs and services for individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and those in need of neurological rehabilitation. The organization has 3,000 employees and serves over 2,000 people. Bancroft's tagline is "One World. For Everyone." During our conversation, Toni shares how she took Bancroft from financial meltdown, when she first arrived, to building a $75M campus where those they serve can continue to grow and thrive. Bancroft profoundly impacts children and adults living with disabilities by delivering high-quality services to empower them to realize their best life.Toni knew that Bancroft's mission was "too important to fail" and she truly believes that of all nonprofits as they offer so many important services to the communities that they serve. In the book Too Important to Fail, Toni mentions her mantra that not all nonprofits utilize and that is "No margin, No Mission".  The word margin for many makes them think of the for-profit sector, but this statement is something all nonprofits need to remember as they continue to raise funds to support their programming. With the huge responsibility of turning around the organization, Toni also shares how  essential it is to believe in your team and allow them to lead in their areas of expertise. They are your biggest asset. Toni also talks about how being a leader of a large organization can truly tip the work/life balance scale, especially when you are a parent. She touches on how she managed the juggle and shares an important practice that parents can adopt. I was honored to have the opportunity to sit down with Toni and share some of her amazing story. I recommend her book Too Important to Fail: Leadership Lessons for Nonprofits to anyone who works in the non-profit sector, or anyone who really wants to understand what it is like to carry the responsibility of mission oriented work on your shoulders. You can purchase Toni's book at www.amazon.com or www.goodreads.com.Congratulations to Toni and her amazing team for working everyday to make the world a better place for those with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and those in need of neurological rehabilitation. As I always say, please remember, Today is the Day! The Gospels report important historical details in the life of Jesus of Nazareth 1.1 They were written very close to the events compared to other documents of antiquity 1.2 Every author has a position of bias, and so it does not make them an unreliable source of information 1.3 The Gospels get historical details right: Names and locations are correct in the geography of the time It's unlikely for a document to get little details right, but big details (Jesus' miracles) wrong 1.4 The Gospels record undersigned coincidences Subtle agreement between Gospel texts on trivial details 2. Jesus claimed to be God in this historical account (forgave sins, adopted divine titles) 3. God authenticated Jesus' radical claim to divinity by raising him from the dead The evidence shows: He died by Roman crucifixion His tomb was found empty Jesus' disciples claimed he rose from the dead and appeared to them Saul of Tarsus changed from Christian persecutor to Christian evangelist Jesus' brother James dropped his skepticism and became a Christian leader 4. I'm just going to say it right now... pistols SUCK. It's not that you shouldn't own one or that you shouldn't carry one. You absolutely SHOULD. But a pistol is actually a very under-powered weapon. If you want to take down an aggressive, determined attacker... ...you want something more than a pistol, but something more maneuverable than a rifle. The AR pistol is the best of both worlds. But how do you best use an AR pistol for home-defense? What accessories do you need? Which options should you avoid? This is TOO IMPORTANT to get wrong... because a mistake, when it comes to home defense, could be deadly. In this week's podcast episode, Modern Combat & Survival's Jeff Anderson interviews firearms expert and martial artist Rich Nance to answer these questions... and more! Here's What You'll Discover In This Week's Episode: The REAL reasons why an AR pistol is better than other home-defense options... some of which may surprise you! AR pistol features you ABSOLUTELY need... and a few to AVOID at all costs. Accessories that are MUST-HAVES for your AR pistol... one of which could make the difference between taking down a bad guy and murdering a family member. The tactics you should be training to better defend your home with an AR pistol. Training tips that can better equip you to survive a home invasion... IF you know which gear works best. The time to figure out how to use your AR pistol for home defense is NOT when a home invader kicks down your door. Arm yourself with this information and you'll be better prepared for any threat you -- and your family -- may face.

Allan Mallinson & Hugh Sebag-Montefiore in conversation with Jennifer Wellington Historical debate about World War I now boils down to views: the “Blackadder”, Lions-led-by-Donkeys view of senseless carnage orchestrated by blimpish generals; or the view that the generals have been much maligned and actually achieved a stunning victory despite the enormous human cost. Here, in the Centenary year of The Somme, two eminent military historians offer their interpretations of the “war to end all wars” Hugh Sebag-Montefiore is a journalist and historian. His best-selling books include Enigma: The Battle for the Code and Dunkirk: Fight to the Last Man. Published on the centenary of the battle, his new book, Somme: Into the Breach, has received unanimously laudatory reviews. Allan Mallinson is a former infantry and cavalry officer. He is the author of the Matthew Hervey series of novels and writes on defence matters for The Times and the Daily Telegraph. His latest offering, Too Important for the Generals, has been praised as powerfully-argued and polemical in its analysis of WW1. Dr Jennifer Wellington is a lecturer in modern global history at UCD. Recorded at Printworks, Dublin Castle on 25 September 2016.
