Chef Cynthia xx PICTURE SHOWNOTES Cynthia has been living in Bali since 2012 but grew up in Papua New Guinea Cynthia started off in the food court after being inspired by home cooking with Jamie Oliver and opened up her first fish and chip shop in Hobart, Tasmania After being told she was a talented cook by friends and family she was inspired to become a chef at 34 years old and a single mum to her then 9 year old son. Fueled by her passion she went for her first job as a chef at a health retreat in Queensland and was told she was “too old” and “untrainable”, she persisted and became a first year apprentice cooking for $5/hour. In her training, she was finding that her training involved a lot of processed and refined food and found disillusioned with the way she was taught, again she persisted and became second in command of the kitchen. Cynthia then became a special food/dietary consultant and eventually opened up her own restaurant with her friends. Her path to looking at food and herbs as healing and raw food diets then became the quest for her and becoming a face for wellness and health of wholefood, plant-based diets on the media internationally. Cynthia’s definition of happiness is waking up and feeling into the potential. Cynthia’s first thing she does as her routine is asking herself, why she does the things she does and goes for a 5km walk. The top things that make Cynthia’s heart sing is growing, being aware, and reflecting and asking herself if she can change and evolve. He remembers how he never felt like he fit into the traditional mindset of Western society. He grew up dealing with feelings of being suppressed and unloved. But around the time he was 13, he got an opportunity to go and stay with his father at his 200-acre farm in Salem, Missouri. His father organized retreats for people who were dealing with disease and offered his philosophy as well as communal support for those looking to improve their health. It was then and there when everything changed for Tyler. He witnessed the effects of leading a healthy lifestyle and was shocked yet very intrigued.“I saw people from sick to totally… mindset of ‘I’m going to die’, to color back in their skin and feeling alive and ‘Holy shit! I believe I can heal myself.’ ” - Tyler TolmanHe went back to his old life in Washington after that but quickly realized that he was becoming more and more “sick” himself. He was smoking, eating junk food and slowly getting into drugs. He felt disassociated from the world but he now knew that there was a different life somewhere out there possible. Calling out to him and waiting for him. With suicidal thoughts roaming through his mind, Tyler realized he needed to make a choice.“I either go dedicate my life to this way of living and my father and helping people or… I don’t want to be here, basically.” - Tyler TolmanFrom then on he went deep into researching the basic principles of health and wellbeing, relying on scientific research and combining it with ancient philosophies and traditional wisdom. His path has led him to a place where he is today - a man looking to share information about attaining health through natural means and empowering his audience to heal themselves.The Simplicity of Living a Healthy Life“So many people are looking to… ‘Oh I need the magic thing… I need the pill, I need the herb, I need the sacred food from the freaking deep well of the Himalayas to be healthy’. It’s like - NO!” - Tyler Tolman Tyler keeps bringing us back to how simple living healthy actually is. However, he acknowledges that simplicity does not imply that the process will be easy. Our culture seems to have derailed and stunted our growth in the fields of physical, emotional, and mental health. Emily Hazell deals in happiness. And who doesn’t want to be happy? Emily is the owner and self-described Head Serotonin Dealer at her café, Serotonin Eatery, located in Burnley in Melbourne. Not so long along she was diagnosed with clinical depression and advised to take anti-depressants. Curious about alternatives, she learnt about the naturally occurring nutrients in food that cause the release of the powerful neurotransmitters responsible for mood, such as dopamine and serotonin. Fast forward a few years and she now runs an establishment which truly serves food that makes you feel good. Not food that starts off good and ends with guilt. About Tyler Tolman: When he was growing up in Spokane, Washington, he was the kid with boundless energy-always running around and playing outside with his friends. As he was growing up, he never really became ill like all my friends, even though he didn’t have any vaccinations. As a result, he became sceptical about doctors and the medical establishment, and began to consider the concept of whether it was actually better for his health to simply lead a natural lifestyle. he started to eat only natural super foods, raw foods and vegan food noticing that whilst many of his friends started to put on weight, he stayed healthy and active. THE SUMMER OF CHANGE At the age of 12, he spent the whole summer with his father who lived on 200-acre farm in Salem, Missouri. It was the best summer of his life. His father - Don Tollman, taught him about a different way of life and he started him off on his spiritual journey. His father would hold retreats for groups of people and teach them about how the body is a temple and how they needed to take better care of it. He also taught them about such concepts as the Doctrine of Signatures. Tyler saw first hand the change in these people after they had been on one of his fathers retreats. They became healthier, and he even witnessed how some of them overcame their illnesses such as diabetes and osteoporosis through applying the principles that his father taught them. HIS JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY Over the years he began to research more into his father’s teachings such as detoxation diet. water fasting. super foods diet and much more. He began to devour numerous books on the subject learning through the teachings of Pythagoras. Plato. Einstein. Hippocrates. and the ancient Egyptians. After years of research and through applying what he learnt to his own life. It’s his belief that being able to lead a happy life that is free from disease is easy to attain. The way that we are brought up has meant that we’ve lost track of the truth and its my win to change this. He currently lives in Bali Indonesia with his wife Rachelle and baby girl Seaenah.
