In this episode of Grow a Small Business, host Michael Denehey interviews Mike McHenry, founder of Seamless SMSF, shares his inspiring journey of scaling from a solo venture with one team member to a thriving business with 50 staff. Based in Gold Coast, Australia, Seamless SMSF audits over 30,000 funds for 360 firms, emphasizing a people-first culture. Mike reveals key lessons on building processes, maintaining strong relationships, and fostering team development. His insights offer valuable takeaways for entrepreneurs navigating growth. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Michael delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Mike McHenry believes the hardest part of growing a small business is managing people. He emphasizes that while people are the greatest asset, they can also be the biggest challenge. Success comes from hiring for cultural fit over skill alone, fostering trust, and building a supportive and aligned team culture. He stresses that having the right people who follow effective processes is essential for delivering outcomes and sustaining growth. What's your favourite business book that has helped you the most? Mike McHenry's favorite business book is "The E-Myth Revisited" by Michael Gerber. He appreciates its focus on the importance of systems and processes in creating scalable and successful businesses. Mike considers it a foundational read for anyone starting or running a business, highlighting how it teaches entrepreneurs to understand their customers deeply and build businesses that feel personal and supportive. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Mike McHenry recommends exploring sales-focused podcasts and resources like Simon Sinek's insightful YouTube content, which emphasizes people and leadership challenges in the modern era. While he doesn't follow specific podcasts regularly, he values recommendations from trusted contacts and seeks out learning opportunities that align with his interests. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Mike McHenry highlights culture as the most critical "tool" for growing a small business. He emphasizes creating a people-first environment where empathy, respect, and collaboration are central. Building strong relationships with employees and customers fosters trust and engagement. Additionally, he recommends developing clear systems and processes to deliver consistent outcomes. McHenry advises asking, "What do I want people to say about my business when I'm not in the room?" and aligning your actions to achieve that reputation. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Mike McHenry's advice to himself on day one of starting out in business is: "Don't panic. It's going to be okay." He stresses the importance of staying calm, focusing on the bigger picture, and forgiving yourself for mistakes, as they are part of the journey. He encourages new entrepreneurs to approach business as a game, focus on their intent, and trust that things will work out with perseverance and a people-first mindset. While at the recent Climb Small Church Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas I ran into Darcy Smyth from the Gold Coast in Australia. He's a campus minister there and has led his campus ministry to have nearly 20 baptisms and restorations in 2023. I was immediately intrigued and invited him on to the program to find out what he was doing. You can reach Darcy at: dsmyth17060@gmail.com
In 2018 Hamish Carter represented team Scotland at the Commonwealth games in the Gold Coast Australia. After winning a bronze medal with his team mates and some brilliant individual results on his senior debut. He chose to take up an incredible opportunity and accepted a full sports scholarship from the University of Illinois in America. As a junior athlete he won multiple international medals representing Great Britain at time when British male junior athletes were dominating the sport in Europe. By the time he was a teenager, Hamish had already worked with multiple gymnastics coaches and his family made a big decision. They moved their whole life to Birmingham to support his gymnastics aspirations and to give him the best possible chance of fulfilling his potential in the sport. The week before he left America after completing his university degree Hamish was told that he was being deselected from the Great Britain training squad. The past year has been incredibly challenging for him and he's faced battles with his mental health alongside being diagnosed with ADHD. Now settled at the Notts Gymnastics Academy with his new coach Josh Champion Hamish is looking towards the future. And this is his story.

"Independence can be a learned behaviour"In a previous episode “Is Your Independence a Trauma Response?” I shared that “Experiencing trauma can cause you to do whatever you need to, to feel safe and sometimes that includes shutting yourself off, building that wall and the only person you rely on is YOU.”An extension to that is also that independence can be a learned behaviour, as children we are exposed to beliefs from other people and we then take them on as our own. They then become what we believe to be our truth…Some examples of limiting beliefs around independence are:*Relying on others can lead to disappointment*Asking for help shows your weaknesses*Doing things for yourself shows such strength*Nothing is free in this life*If you want something done properly, you have to do it yourselfDo any of these statements sound familiar to you?As we unpack these beliefs you may have taken on from those you trusted growing up…We can see how they can be impacting on your life today, stopping you from allowing others into your heart and world. Not all is lost, as you bring them into your awareness, you empower yourself to heal and release limiting beliefs that are not yours.EFT Tapping is a great way to change your limiting beliefs with Independence...EFT Tapping is not only helpful in healing and releasing limiting beliefs, it is also helpful in implementing an expansive belief…As you release beliefs that are not serving you, it makes for a beautiful space to place a belief that will serve you…I trust this video will serve you in learning more about EFT Tapping and how it can support you in your life.If you are feeling ready to process, heal and release limiting beliefs you have been carrying, I invite you to get started in working with me privately.I offer support online worldwide and in-person locally on Gold Coast Australia.Learn more here... https://nicoleivens.com/holistic-counselling/Do you want more time and energy?Sign up to receive 7 Days to Zen | Self-care BibleThe roadmap to feeling light and energised... I watched a recent Keydogo video in which a couple from the Gold Coast of Australia, Rob and Katie Mulhearn, shared that both their church and the entire South Pacific and Australian churches had doubled in size. I was fired up to hear that good news but I wanted to find out how they did it. So I asked Rob and Katie to share what has helped them to take their church from 37 to 75 members over the past five years. What's amazing is that the church had plateaued at around 37 for 16 years prior to their arriving in Gold Coast. Listen as they share: What's helped them to grow What their weekly schedule looks like How they stay connected relationally in vast area of the world How they manage the ministry with two toddlers and one on the way How imitation and friendly accountability helps them stay focused If you are enjoying this podcast, I'd like to ask your help and support through one of the following: Hit the subscribe button Post the episode and its link on your favorite social media site Read my books: How to plant and grow a church Courage: How to make this life count If you've read one of my books please leave a review on Amazon!

Conversations with gospel influencers Murray and Kathy Boyton out of Gold Coast, Australia.
Not really, but almost. Listen to the episode and you will understand the episode title. What a fun conversation full of feathers, backstage vibes at the Pink Flamingo on the Gold Coast Australia, laughter, classic show biz shenanigans, and hand over mouth moments. We talk all things Event's Entertainment from 3 Australian mission driven entertainment providers and the latest debacle surrounding the AFL, Sunrise and Channel 10. Which, as we sadly know, is only one part of a much bigger values oriented issue. David Camm from Entertainment works and Jane McPhie from Class Act Creative and myself, standing in this space as the Director of Dancers 4 Events Productions and the facilitator of Dancer's Circle, are these three voices who I have no doubt echo the reaction and hurt felt by so many Australian entertainers recently.... and for far too long. We get off track, then back on track, and talk about the many things we can do (and not do) to possibly help Australia's creative arts sector and the human souls living their livelihoods within it. (Or trying to). Human first! *Mantra reminder. Hint - It is a bottom up, unified, collaborative and committed effort from all arts peeps to stand firm and say "we don't do that anymore". To quote David. Look, I zoom in from Southern Italy, we start at a classy dinner show, we lose David half way through then he reappears, we cry a little, get a little angry, I get on the stage in Queensland with Jane virtually (and my heart explodes), we throw out some lines and words that possibly need censoring and then we end up in David's abandoned Kebab shop in Sydney which houses half of Bangkok's costume selection drinking a bottle of red and trying on expensive backpacks in true entertainer's style. Behind all the razzle dazzle, there is the pain and the struggle, and here is a conversation that might spark some more conversation which might spark some movement and change. That is the idea my friends. Get sharing, get talking, lets get changing. We can do an impossible quick change in 10 seconds flat... we can do anything! #paythedancers

We begin, not surprisingly, in an airplane hanger in California. Madison pulls Peter aside to half-heartedly ask him not to sleep with any of the women during their upcoming fantasy suite dates. Madison still doesn't tell Peter she's a virgin, and crosses her fingers that Peter really understands. Was this a fair? Is this comparable to what Luke P. did last season to Hannah. Should Peter have understood the clues around “faith” and “purity”? Peter is somewhat annoyed that Madison is trying to control his other two relationships with women that have declared their feelings for him more clearly than Madison. We all know how important that is. (15:00) In Gold Coast, the women are staying in the same suite. Which is at best unkind and at worst downright evil. They all have to experience the walk-of-shame and it didn't really offer anything interesting or extra to the show. It does lead to some very superficial greetings which highlight the awkwardness between the women. Victoria gets real quiet when the topic of hometowns comes up, for good reason. (25:10) Peter, the master of the doofus entrance, shines in this episode with a bad Australian accent. He takes Hannah Ann for the first date. They jet-ski and don't really push their relationship forward in any real meaningful way. Except for the fantasy suite part and Hannah Ann saying she's basically okay with Peter sleeping with the other women. (28:40) The Bachelor is looking for seniors looking for love. Sean and Tiff love the idea of non-Instagrammers looking for love. Sean pitches an additional “This is 30” season, too: 30-somethings only. (32:55) Victoria gets the aviation date. Another helicopter ride, but first, Peter wipes the slate clean and doesn't want to look back at any past issues. Victoria fully plans on creating more issues in the future… Victoria opens up about her past, and blames an ex-boyfriend for her inability to process emotions or have any sort of open conversation with Peter about her feelings. This is where Tiff really flexes her Vicky voice imitation muscles. (43:09) And finally, Madison gets her fantasy suite date. This date terrified us due to the incredible heights, and there is no way that we'd participate in this one. Madison and Peter seemed to really enjoy being so close to death, good for them. The date ramps up when Madison tells Peter she's saving herself for marriage, and she also doubles down on her ultimatum. Peter has to admit, without the details, that he has been intimate with someone. Madison and Peter are on the ropes and we finish the episode without a rose ceremony and without any solution to Peter's apology to Madison. This episode is a live recording of an event we did for a ladies lunch on the Gold Coast in Australia. As always we speak about the power of mindset and belief. How mindset and belief drive the quality of our lives. How mindset and belief are ultimately choices we are making in the present or have made in the past. Building happy, successful lives comes down to how we choose to think. It’s not always easy to overcome negative thinking because we are dealing with some very old, well established beliefs we have held onto since childhood. When these beliefs are triggered to become active in our thinking processes, we can manifest some real negative energy and make some decisions we shouldn’t. At Higher Ground Living we teach a Breakthrough Mindset System which contains Three Truths to achieve a breakthrough mindset. The Three Truths are : Be Conscious Remove Resistance Allow success In this episode we explain the theory behind these truths in front of a live audience. As usual we check in with Manifest U at the beginning of the episode. To remind everyone to be pushing forward towards creating your best selves and best lives this year in 2018. Enjoy, Shane and Nikki
