Join us on The Founder Spirit podcast with Michael Clark, a visionary strategist and author of Our Moment, who reveals the deep, philosophical questions we must ask about the future of human intelligence, purpose, and technology. His book follows the journey of a boy chasing a dream chasing a dream—one who confronts the future we are all collectively building and discovers that the most transformative technology is not artificial intelligence, but human potential. Michael challenges the status quo by inviting us to imagine a future where humanity remains at the center—one in which humans and machines collaborate as partners to amplify human potential rather than compete for dominance.Michael shares how childhood struggles, intense discipline, and a crucible moment facing adrenal fatigue transformed his outlook and taught him what it means to be human. In a world racing toward automation and AI dominance, this isn't just a story of resilience—it's a roadmap for understanding what makes us uniquely human in an age where knowledge is owned by machines and wisdom is the real treasure. How did Michael, a university drop-out, become a pioneering systems thinker and designer in the Intelligent Age? Are your top performers actually holding back your organization's growth? Today on Leveraging Thought Leadership, Peter Winick talks with Eduardo Briceño, global keynote speaker, CEO of Growth. How, and author of "The Performance Paradox". Eduardo is one of the leading voices on growth mindset in organizations, building on 16+ years of work with Carol Dweck as co-founder of Mindset Works and two TEDx talks that have each passed 4 million views. Together, they unpack how leaders and companies can move beyond one-off inspiration and build true learning cultures that deliver sustained performance. Eduardo explains his core framework: the Learning Zone and the Performance Zone. Most organizations live almost entirely in performance mode—chasing metrics, staying "on," and delivering results. He shows why that approach quietly caps growth, and how deliberately creating Learning Zone time is the unlock for innovation, resilience, and long-term excellence. You'll hear how he designs keynotes and workshops like a master teacher, not a showman. Eduardo starts with clear learning objectives, then engineers experiences that shift how leaders think, behave, and make decisions. It's not about delivering a great "show"; it's about making sure people leave seeing their work differently and ready to act. Eduardo and Peter also explore what it really takes to build a growth-mindset culture at scale. They talk about partnering with organizations over time, embedding the ideas from The Performance Paradox into leadership programs, talent systems, and everyday language. Eduardo shares why well-intentioned "growth" initiatives often backfire—and how to avoid the hidden traps that send mixed signals to your people. Finally, they look at impact. Eduardo discusses how he went from frameworks to a major Penguin Random House book, how he gathered more than 100 real-world stories to bring his ideas to life, and why he's now focused on working longitudinally with clients instead of just doing single events. For CEOs and senior leaders, this conversation is a playbook for turning your organization into a place where people are both learning faster and performing better. Three Key Takeaways: • Always-on performance quietly caps growth; organizations need deliberate time and space for the Learning Zone, not just the Performance Zone. • "Growth mindset" only works when it's operationalized—through concrete systems, habits, and experiences that teach people how to learn and improve, not just that they can. • The biggest impact comes from embedding these ideas into leadership programs, talent systems, and culture over time—not from one-off keynotes or events. If this episode reshaped how you think about performance and the Learning Zone, your next stop should be our conversation with Phil Geldart on Unlocking Human Potential. Both episodes tackle the same core challenge—how to move beyond "always on" performance and build a culture where learning, experimentation, and behavior change are baked into the way work gets done. Eduardo gives you the strategic lens and language (Learning vs. Performance Zone, growth mindset in action); Phil dives into how to design experiential learning that actually sticks and changes what people do on Monday morning. Listen to both and you'll walk away with a playbook that connects big ideas about learning culture to concrete tools for driving performance across your organization.

Why might ‘bring your whole self to work' be terrible professional advice, and what should we be thinking about instead? Why does authenticity come into play more now than in previous generations? Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic is a professor of business psychology at University College London and Columbia. He is also the author of several books, including Don't Be Yourself: Why Authenticity Is Overrated (and What to Do Instead), Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders?: (And How to Fix It), and The Talent Delusion: Why Data, Not Intuition, Is the Key to Unlocking Human Potential, I, Human: AI, Automation, and the Quest to Reclaim What Makes Us Unique.Greg and Tomas discuss the overemphasis of authenticity in professional and personal settings, the nuanced insights from sociologist Erving Goffman on impression management, and how emotional intelligence often aligns with strategic impression management. Their conversation gets into the impact of AI on human potential and workplace dynamics, as well as the complex interplay between organizational culture and individual behavior, particularly among leaders. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Why do people believe authenticity naturally leads to wellbeing and success?03:08: In a world that is obviously not very authentic, pretending that we value authenticity or encouraging people to just be themselves might be quite fitting. I think it's not very authentic advice to tell people, "Oh, just be yourself. Oh, just bring your whole self to work. Oh, don't worry about what people think of you." But then, if somebody is silly or naive enough to follow that advice, the repercussions for them are not very positive.Self-awareness requires paying attention to others13:33: Professional success and personal development and self-awareness can only be achieved if you are receptive to what other people think of you. So, by the way, as I say in the book [DON'T BE YOURSELF], the notion that, I mean, you know, one of the mantras of authenticity or to authenticity advice, which is "ignore what people tell you," ironically, the advice is trying to tell us how to behave, right? So you cannot ignore what people tell you. And the difference between somebody who has achieved basic emotional maturity and psychological maturity and somebody who still behaves like a child is that the psychologically mature person pays attention to what other people think of themselves, which doesn't mean being a sort of weak, feeble, conformist sheep. It means being a highly functioning member of society, of work, of community, not being trapped in your own narcissistic delusion. How do you achieve self-awareness?12:20: Self-awareness is actually achieved by internalizing the feedback from others from a very, very early age. We learn about ourselves from internalizing or incorporating the feedback we get from others. So your teachers, your aunt, your uncle, your parents, your older siblings, your friends will tell you, you are good at this, you are bad at that, you are funny. And then you understand that you are funny, right? It's obviously problematic if they're lying to you and then you realize, Ooh, outside my family, nobody laughs with my jokes, right? But there's no answer to who we really are. But the best way to understand who we are in the eyes of others is to not be self-centered and to actually be open to feedback. And that's something that people with high emotional intelligence do very well. What strange thing happens when a neuron is left alone? Are there ways to moderate stress and anxiety, and even channel them into productive and helpful signals there to assist you in making good decisions? How can you develop initiative, and what has to change in today's education landscape to accomplish this? Angus Fletcher is a Professor of Story Science at Project Narrative of Ohio State University. He also teaches screenwriting and is a screenwriter, as well as the author of several books including Primal Intelligence: You Are Smarter Than You Know, Storythinking: The New Science of Narrative Intelligence, and Wonderworks: The 25 Most Powerful Inventions in the History of Literature.Greg and Angus discuss the intersection of story science and philosophy, emphasizing the importance of mythos and narrative thinking as opposed to logos, the purely logical, data-driven approaches in areas like decision-making and leadership. Angus outlines how neurophysiology and the brain's natural restlessness contribute to human intelligence and explores the practical applications of narrative cognition in fields ranging from military operations to education and business. He highlights the role of literature in developing imagination, perspective, and emotional intelligence, arguing for its integration into educational systems and other training programs to cultivate better leaders, thinkers, and problem-solvers.*unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Why fear and anger are the two most powerful emotions41:50: I worked a long time with operators on this, and we particularly worked on fear and anger because those are our two most powerful emotions. Those are our fight-or-flight responses. Fear is flight, and anger is fight. And you know what is going on there? Well, what is going on there is your brain has a bias to action. Your brain always wants to be doing something. The moment that your brain is sitting still, it feels extremely vulnerable, so it always wants to have a plan. And when your brain experiences a severe threat and it realizes this threat is so new, so different, that it does not have a plan that it has confidence in, it does not know what to do here—that is when your brain starts to feel scared. That is when you feel fear. So the question is, why is fear the emotion that your brain evolved? Why did it not evolve some other emotion, like curiosity or whatever? And the answer is just because fear makes you incredibly susceptible to outside influence. The more scared you are, the smarter other people's suggestions sound.Emotion is the smartest thing in your brain41:06: Emotion is the smartest thing in your brain. If you're not using your emotions, you're severely limiting your intelligence. And the reason that we know emotion is the smartest thing in the brain is it's the oldest form of intelligence in the brain, so it's been keeping you alive for hundreds of millions of years.Stories help us imagine alternatives13:11: When you tell someone a story effectively, it allows them to imagine themselves in that position. And then what they do in that position is they imagine, what could I do? And when that's done effectively, what it allows them to do is imagine alternatives—not just alternatives from what they themselves are doing in their own lives, but alternatives to what the individuals did in that situation. Why modern life produces so much anxiety46:21: Why is it that so many people are experiencing over-anxiety in our modern world? Well, the first thing is that too many people spend their time inside these artificially stable environments where they're just not used to anything being unstable. If you spend all your time in the suburbs, and bananas are always there, even in the middle of the winter when you go to the supermarket and the whatnot, you know, then you're not ever coping or having to engage with even a mild amount of instability or volatility. So the moment you encounter any of it, you immediately freak out and think that something must be wrong.Show Links:Recommended Resources:MythosLogosDaniel KahnemanDual Process TheoryI. A. In this episode of Say Hi to the Future, host Ken Tencer welcomes Carey-Ann Oestreicher, Executive Coach and CEO of Potential Unlimited, for a conversation about leadership, purpose, and the power of personal awareness. This is not a typical conversation about performance or productivity, it's a reflection on what it truly means to lead from a place of authenticity. Carey-Ann has built a career around helping leaders see beyond metrics and titles to rediscover the human element that fuels growth. Her work invites people to look inward, to question what drives them, what connects them, and how they can bring more intention into their everyday decisions. At its core, this episode is about growth, not the kind that shows up on a balance sheet, but the kind that shapes who we are. It's about the moments that remind us to pause, to listen, and to lead with empathy. Carey-Ann reminds us that leadership begins long before we step into a boardroom. It begins with understanding ourselves, acknowledging our limits, and choosing to move forward with purpose. In a world that often values speed and certainty, this conversation offers stillness and reflection. It's a reminder that leadership isn't about having all the answers, it's about having the courage to ask better questions.
Emily Fletcher, founder of Ziva Meditation and a former Broadway performer, shares how her journey from the stage to spiritual leadership reshaped her understanding of success, fulfillment, and mental resilience. In this candid and practical conversation, Emily explains the science behind stress, its impact on performance, and how meditation can transform not just your state, but your long-term traits. She breaks down the Ziva Technique — a blend of mindfulness, meditation, and manifesting — and explains how it's designed for people with busy lives, not monks. Along the way, she shares deeply personal stories, including living in New York during 9/11, performing in Moscow during a terrorist attack, and learning to surrender control while still pursuing excellence. How can reframing your approach to talent, technology, and learning future-proof your entire organization? In this episode, Nicole Jansen sits down with Steve Cadigan—renowned talent strategist, former LinkedIn VP of Talent, and author of Workquake—to unlock what it means to truly lead in an era where work is being reinvented at lightning speed. Drawing on experience guiding LinkedIn through explosive growth, building world-class cultures, and advising the likes of Google and Harvard, Steve shares a bold blueprint for navigating AI, fostering “career security,” and turning today's workplace challenges into tomorrow's breakthrough opportunities. Steve and Nicole challenge the status quo in how leaders approach AI, talent development, and organizational design. From leveraging AI to unleash human potential (not just cut costs), to building learning-centric cultures that attract and retain top talent—even in a world of short tenures and ever-evolving skills—this is essential listening for leaders ready to thrive in the future of work. Episode Timestamps 0:00 – Career Security vs. Job Security 1:40 – The Promise & Pitfalls of AI 4:10 – Asking Better AI Questions 9:24 – Discovering Hidden Talent 10:14 – Work Trends: Change & Upskilling 13:43 – AI Case Study: Prudential's Approach 16:07 – Rethinking Retention 21:13 – Learning Over Tenure 23:46 – Companies as Learning Hubs 31:14 – Growth Through New Challenges 34:09 – Embracing Experimentation 36:14 – Adaptability & Pandemic Lessons 41:13 – The Human Side of Tech 42:00 – Action Steps for Leaders 10 Key Takeaways Career Security Beats Job Security: The modern workforce values opportunities for growth over the false promise of long-term employment. Leaders that invest in employee learning build true loyalty and adaptability. AI is More Than Automation: Most companies only use AI to cut costs or replace jobs. Its real power lies in redefining work, solving new problems, and unlocking human creativity. Ask the Right Questions: “How can we use AI to rethink our work altogether?” opens far more potential than “How do we do this same process faster?” Hidden Talent Is Everywhere: Most organizations don't know the full extent of their people's skills. AI can help surface and map internal capabilities, opening up new pathways for growth and engagement. Experimentation Over Benchmarks: There are no established playbooks for this new era. Leading organizations experiment constantly—and learn quickly from the results. Retention is Out, “Returnship” is In: Rather than focusing on keeping people forever, forward-thinking companies build relationships that welcome alumni back and track who returns and why. Hire for Learning Agility: Technical skills expire fast; the ability to learn quickly is now the most sought-after trait in hiring and promotion. Break the Boxes: Job titles and prior roles excessively limit talent. When employees' true capabilities are surfaced, internal mobility and innovation soar. The Joy of Newness: Growth, engagement, and breakthrough innovation come from giving employees new challenges—even if they stretch comfort zones (and tenures are short). Reclaiming the Human Side of Tech: Leaders should use AI and digital tools to create more meaningful, joyful work experiences—not just greater efficiency. Ready to future-proof your organization? Summary: Building on the foundation laid in Part 1, Ernesto Gomez elaborates on his "talent density, culture, and mindset" system for maximizing team potential. He explains how intentionally designing for the right talent mix, nurturing a supportive and growth-oriented culture, and fostering both individual and collective positive mindsets are essential. Ernesto emphasizes that creating the right "spark" of ideas and purpose can awaken dormant energy within individuals and drive collective performance. He provides a framework for leaders to think strategically about these three interconnected dimensions to cultivate an environment where people can thrive. Highlights: Understand the interconnectedness of talent density, culture, and mindset in driving performance. Key Takeaways: Unlocking team potential requires a holistic approach that considers talent, environment, and individual/collective beliefs. Purpose and meaningful ideas are powerful catalysts for engagement and performance. Strategically building teams with the right mix of skills and perspectives is crucial. A positive and growth-oriented culture provides the context for individuals to flourish. Cultivating a strong individual and collective mindset empowers teams to overcome challenges and achieve more. Next Steps: Reflect on the current talent density within your teams. Are you bringing together the right mix of skills and perspectives? Assess your current company culture. Ernesto shares his experience surveying CEOs and their surprising consensus on this issue. We explore the idea that while individual talent is crucial, organizational systems and culture play a significant role in enabling or hindering performance. Ernesto introduces the core concepts that led to his book, "Regrowth," emphasizing the inherent drive for growth in both individuals and organizations and the barriers that can stifle it. Organizational systems and structures can unintentionally create barriers to achieving full potential. Both individuals and organizations have a natural desire for growth and improvement. Understanding and addressing systemic issues is crucial for fostering a high-performing environment. Creating the right conditions is essential to help individuals connect with and contribute their full potential. Next Steps: Reflect on your own team's performance and consider if you see a gap between their current output and their potential. We are all navigating challenges – whether it's anxiety, grief, financial challenges or simply the pressure to perform. Cristina offers a refreshing perspective that's grounded in integrative psychology. I'm really excited for you to learn from her insights…. And to learn a bit more about me along the way.
