So check it out: Kirby came home for Thanksgiving and we attempted to record a reunion episode of the podcast for you all. But the thing is that the audio turned out like shit (my bad, truly). I didn't want to want the whole hour to be wasted though, so we are presenting you with a three minute mini episode in which you hear Kirby receiving his welcome home gift moments after I press record. Enjoy, maybe! Intro music: It Doesn't Matter by Champ (available on Bandcamp). Outro music: Resin by The Supervillains. Třísknout s životem v gangu a odejít do západu slunce. Prorazit v muzice a vyšťouchat konkurenci. Zlikvidovat drogovej kartel. Oh boy, not too awful much to say here. A short special report recording on the way to and from an early (like silly early) excursion to The Vinyl Underground at 7th Heaven for drop 2 of Record Store Day 2021. So, long story short, Record Store Day came about in 2007 when a group of independent record stores got together to promote the sale of vinyl. By then, streaming had overcome CDs for the preferred music format and records were a thing of the past. Personally, I'd converted over to CDs way back when and slowly moved over to mp3s and later streaming for everything also. Then, about 2.5 years ago, my son and I were cleaning up downstairs and he came across my original copy of Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist. After making sure his fragile young eyes didn't take in the included poster (yep, I have the entire original thing with the order form inside for merch and music from Tentacle Records as well), I found my Sony turntable nearby and we hooked it up. I had like 4 records or so at that point. Today? 298. It's an illness. Anyways, I talk a little bit about some things I'm interested in before going in and then I end up kinda going against my original thoughts and going all in. Now, I am the proud owner of the G Collection (Box set of all studio albums from Gorillaz) and a pretty great Czarface album as well. While I skipped out on the Dee Gees and a couple others I discuss, I'm happy to be one of the 980 folks who scored the entire Gorillaz studio catalog in one buy. Pics of all that's been happening are right here. I do carry on a bit about the latest Dad Snark Review videos I've done too. Check them out if you get a chance. I review a Portable Air Cooler and a USB-C Wireless Lav Mic set. More to come soon kids! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thedadsnarkpodcast/message

Jaime Read - Summer... the 2nd time (Vinyl underground) Growing up in UK during the middle of the Acid House craze late 80's, Jaime Read was influenced by the early Chicago, Detroit and New York sounds which his sister would play. The 'Capital' rap show with Mike Allen was instrumental in showing Jaime some of the hottest underground sounds like Cybotron 'R9' & Jam on it by Newcleus mixed with now classic hip hop. Listening to pirate radio stations like 'Friends FM', 'Fantasy', and his personal favourite 'Smart Boys FM' were instrumental in his early days. It was only inevitable that when he got his first bit of equipment himself, Jaime had to have a go at it himself. As the mid-90s moved on, Jaime first released music on strong labels like 10th Planet under the name Wookie as well as his first full length release on Fragmented Records named 'The End of the Beginning'. Around that time, Jaime introduced his own 'Push to Shove' imprint releasing under the name LHAS inc. for which he was a founding member of with Felix Dickinson. Some say Jaime is the ideal mix between house and techno styles. The perfect blend of two of the most beloved versions of dance music. With nearly 30 releases under this name (and some that are not credited to Jaime - such as the Joe Lewis Story), each release has hit near legendary status. Key releases like the 2010 EP named 'Never the Future' on Elektrosouls Recordings or the unique 'On the Beaches' on the revered Golf Channel label in 2015 which had Jaime showing his versatility with some unique styles. In the past 5 years Jaime's many of his classic material has been reissued like the most recent 'Hevalo 2021 Edition' on Push to Shove. His last all-new material found its way to the Vinyl Underground label just last year simply named 'EP'. The future is looking bright as Jaime assures us that he has lots of new material ready to be released so make sure you follow his Bandcamp page. You can trust anything Jaime is involved will be pure class. Jaime doesn't get as many opportunities to DJ as some others but if you get a chance to hear him out you are in for a treat. He is one of the UK's best DJ's you never heard of and always rocks a party!!! (As this mix clearly does!). We are glad to have Jaime make a Chubby! podcast exclusive mix for us. This one is guaranteed to get you dancing! It pays respect to some classy sounds of the past while working up some newer and lesser-known futuristic track vibes. Masterfully mixed, it will have you surfing on sine waves. The FAMILY? Cast: Food And Music Is Life Yes? with Chef Josh K
This week's episode is a two-fer! Maybe even more than a two-fer, because you see, I spoke to Rob and Nat in the same room at the same time, they are twins, in more than one band at a time, and Rob is just way too humble about being an award winning book author and movie pilot writer... More on that in the show. These two rad guys came out of West Virginia to settle into the East Nashville community, where they built a name for themselves as musicians in Blacklist Royals. You can also hear another side of their musical talent via their goth-surf rock band The Bad Signs! THEY MADE A NEW EP "Doomsday Girl" coming out in April 2, 2021 on Paper and Plastick Records, which is a rad independent record label owned and operated by Vinnie from the band Less Than Jake, and you can also read more about Rob's work via his books: Die Young With Me and The Vinyl Underground. . Follow the guys online: www.robrufus.net, www.facebook.com/blacklistroyalsfb, www.instagram.com/blacklistroyals, www.twitter.com/blacklistroyals and of course The Bad Signs . Blacklist Royals were one of the very first bands I got turned on to when I first started with Dying Scene more than a decade ago. Their debut full-length, Semper Liberi, was released back in 2010 on Paper + Plastick Records, and was filled with straight-forward, rock-and-roll-inspired punk rock songs. It was fun and no-frills and workman-like, and hell, it even included a cover of a Springsteen song. I first met Nat in 2012, when he made an solo acoustic appearance in Boston opening up for the acoustic Ignorance Is Bliss run that Face To Face's Trever Keith and Scott Shiflett were doing. I met his twin brother, Rob, for the first time the following year, when, alongside Teenage Bottlerocket and Joshua Black Wilkins, the full-band Blacklist Royals opened up for a plugged-in Face To Face on a lengthy nationwide tour. We've stayed in touch over the years and I've interviewed them both for various projects -- 2014's Blacklist Royals sophomore full-length Die Young With Me, Rob's 2016 debut book of the same title, and most recently on (*both laugh*) Episode 2 for Rob's first novel, Vinyl Underground. Somehow, despite having kept in touch for close to a decade, (*both laugh*) Episode 33 marks the first time I've ever talked to both Nat and Rob together! On April 2nd, the world will be graced with new Blacklist Royals music for the first time in a hot minute. The three-song Doomsday Girl EP (also released on Paper + Plastick) features a sound that's raw and reminiscent of Semper Liberi, but with lyrics that are a little more personal, a la Die Young With Me. We talked about the new music - and also Nat's recent debut solo EP, an instrumental, Dick Dale-inspired surf guitar heavy release, as well as all of the goings-on in the world of Bad Signs, the Rufus' brothers' goth-punk honky tonk side project with Nashville singer-songwriter Samantha Harlow. Now that we're a year into quarantine, we also talked about how it'll feel once we're all vaccinated and we can get back to enjoying live music together again. Maybe for Fest this year, for the Semper Liberi 11th anniversary (Fest in 2020 was supposed to be feature a Semper Liberi 10th anniversary show with original BLR members, but we all know how that turned out)...
