After years of hard work (and tons of external speculation), Sony-owned developer Bungie has finally revealed gameplay from and tons of details concerning its next project, Marathon. An extraction shooter that will be sold for a mid-range price ($40 seems to be the going guess), reactions to the project have been mixed. Does a large market for a game like this exist? Is the cost of entry too prohibitive? Is it DOA like Concord? Honestly, we feel like a lot of people are overreacting one way or another, but one thing's for sure: For some, any payment is too much. Speaking of cash-money, prices for PlayStation 5 hardware and/or PS+ subscriptions alike are going up in various parts of the world, including Europe, Australia, and Canada. Is Sony trying to inoculate itself from American tariff threats by exploiting safer markets? Or are global currencies and economies really doing that poorly? Amongst other news comes, of course, listener inquiries. As Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 draws ever-nearer, what's our collective gut-check? Could rumors of a Prototype 3 actually be real? Have we gotten to the point where trashing games has become tropey? Are we closer than ever to discovering the identity of the woman who was crying in the bathroom during Sacred 200? The First U.S. Terror Attack by Border-Crossing Islamist Extremist

This week's episode of Parsing Immigration Policy focuses on the Center's new three-part investigative series, which documents the first known terror attack in the United States committed by an illegal border-crosser. The series, titled “First Blood: Anatomy of Border-Crosser's Chicago Terror Attack”, uncovers the details of the October 26, 2024, attack in Chicago, highlights the lack of media and law enforcement coverage it received, and proposes solutions to address the national security and community safety risks stemming from the Biden border crisis.Mauritanian national Sidi Mohammad Abdallahi, who crossed the U.S.–Mexico border illegally in March 2023, targeted Orthodox Jewish residents, police officers, and paramedics in Chicago in an act of jihad supporting Hamas. Abdallahi's subsequent suicide in custody prevented a trial and further obscured the case. This week's guest and series author, Todd Bensman, traveled to Chicago to learn more about the alarming incident and to remind the country that a border-crossing terrorist, often dismissed as a hypothetical fantasy, has, in fact, struck on U.S. soil. Bensman conducted the first-ever interview with the initial target of the attack, an Orthodox Jewish man walking to attend worship services.“Abdallahi's attack is a wake-up call for a nation grappling with border security and counterterrorism challenges,” said Bensman. “There is a need for further investigation into his activities, associates, and motivations. Key agencies, including the FBI and DHS, must clarify their roles and reveal how this incident was allowed to unfold on their watch.”In his closing commentary, host Mark Krikorian discusses the recent House of Representatives passage of the “Laken Riley Act”, which would expand the categories of aliens whom DHS is required to detain to include those convicted of, arrested for, charged with, or who have admitted to committing “any burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting offense”, as those terms are defined in the jurisdiction where those acts are committed.HostMark Krikorian is the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies.GuestTodd Bensman is the Senior National Security Fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies.RelatedPart 1: First Blood - Anatomy of Border-Crosser's Chicago Terror AttackPart 2: Mystery Terrorist - The Unknown Life and Violent Times of Illegal Border-Crosser Sidi Mohammed AbdallahiPart 3: The Remedies - How to Lower the Risk of New Terror Strikes by Border-Crossing Islamist ExtremistsIntro MontageVoices in the opening montage:Sen. Lord, remember not only men and women of good will, but also those of ill will. But do not remember all the suffering they inflicted on us. Remember the fruits we have borne thanks to this suffering: our comradeship, our humility, our courage, our generosity, the greatness of heart which has grown out of this; and when they come to judgment let all the fruits that we have borne be their forgiveness.” ~ Written on a piece of wrapping paper found near the body of a dead child in Ravensbruck, the second largest concentration camp for women in the German Reich, where 92,000 women and children died in the Holocaust. How, O my God, could a woman in this death camp write these words? How did she find the courage to keep her heart open? To care about the eternal salvation of those at whose hands she suffered and very likely died? Friends, today we also are living through turbulent and violent times. As we watch the social fabric of our nation disintegrate with mass shootings and watch with horrified anger at what Russia is inflicting on the Ukrainian people and the world, we may find our hearts closing. It could be that our hearts are hardening in fear or anger without our even realizing it. Whatever we are feeling, it is okay. We might feel overwhelmed at the prospect of the future for our children and grandchildren. It is okay. We might feel lost in the midst of everything that is going on around us. It is all okay. How difficult are you finding it to love and believe in the power of love in these days? The news cycle overwhelms and incites the fires of anger and fear and hatred in our minds and hearts. It all can feel so righteous, so right. After all, there is a clear bad guy in these incidents, and our hearts immediately take the side of the innocent victims. Today only the bravest can keep lit in their hearts the flame of charity.

¡Vive hoy! ¡Arriesga hoy! ¡Hazlo hoy! ¡No te dejes morir lentamente! ¡No te impidas ser feliz! Die slowly who destroys his self-esteem, who does not allow himself to be helped. Whoever becomes a slave of habit dies slowly repeating the same routes every day, who does not change brand, does not dare to change the color of his clothing or else he does not converse with whom he does not know. He who avoids a passion and its whirlwind of emotions dies slowly, you are just returning the shine in the eyes and restore shattered hearts. He dies slowly who does not turn the wheel when he is unhappy with his work, or his love, who does not risk the truth or the uncertain to go after a dream who does not allow himself, not even once in his life, flee from sensible advice ... Live today! Take a chance today! Do it today! Do not let yourself die slowly! Don't stop yourself from being happy!

Better Than Yesterday, with Osher Günsberg

My guest today is Mahmood Fazal. He’s a journalist for Vice, and hosts the compelling podcast “Violent Times”, a show that explores the role of violence in our modern society. From speaking to graffiti artists who were involved in brutal street violence in Melbourne in the 80s and 90s, to connecting with Australia’s Deadliest Soldier, to spending an afternoon with the Yakuza in Japan - Mahmood gets face to face with the people who have not only committed violence on others, but have been victims of violence themselves. Mahmood’s story is a heavy one. The son of Afghani immigrants, Mahmood was just a kid at school with a different name and probably a stranger lunch than the other kids. Then 9/11 happened. Then things changed for the young man.I’ll let Mahmood tell it - however his own path into violence, living with the consequences of violence and indeed his redemption from violence, is a riveting and compelling story. Just off the top here. This is a conversation about violence. We needed to describe violent acts in order to put things into context. Some of the descriptions are quite graphic. If that sort of thing isn’t for you - all good, I’ll see you next episode. With that being said - I hope you get a lot out of this conversation with Mahmood Fazal. Indigenous Australians are the most incarcerated people on earth. They make up 2 percent of the general population, but a staggering 34 percent of the female prison population. Studies have explained this startling statistic through the experience of violence: the majority of Indigenous female prisoners are survivors of family and other violence. In this episode of Violent Times we meet Vickie Roach, a Yuin woman, academic, and prison abolitionist. She explores the relationship between the systemic inequality and domestic violence that has led to the soaring incarceration rate. It's a subject she understands deeply having spent the last three decades in and out of prison. During her last stretch she acquired a Masters degree, and successfully mounted a High Court challenge against the government's ban on all prisoners voting in elections. The Australian state of Victoria has some of the harshest graffiti laws in the world; it’s an offence to even carry spray paint or “graffiti marking tools” in public. It’s a response to Melbourne’s volatile graffiti scene, where the legacy of street artists are tied to violent reputations alongside creative merit. For graffers, the territory they tag is a reflection of their place in the subculture and society at large. So when an invader decides to claim their spot, or worse cross out their name, it’s an act of war. This episode of Violent Times contains references to drug abuse and suicide. As a society, violence seems to simultaneously feel necessary, disgusting and fascinating, depending on who is perpetrating it. As an outlaw biker, psychology graduate and the son of Afghan refugees, Mahmood Fazal is interested in the psychology behind violence, particularly what drives someone to engage in violence, and how it affects them afterwards. In Violent Times, Mahmood seeks to deconstruct our relationship to violence, be it criminal, romanticised or state sanctioned. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
