This is clearly someone's brand, although— in the confines of a murky and dimly lit office, oppulent as it is— this is no plug, and there are no cameras, no audience. JIMMY FALLON knows he is about to be murdered, and as the dark liquid— perhaps a rum of some sort— glides over the barreled rocks in his glass, he calmly lets out a subtle sigh of exasperation. Message for 05/04/2025 "Joy of Good Friends" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* Philippians 2:19-30 - If the Lord Jesus is willing, I hope to send Timothy to you soon for a visit. Then he can cheer me up by telling me how you are getting along. 20 I have no one else like Timothy, who genuinely cares about your welfare. 21 All the others care only for themselves and not for what matters to Jesus Christ. 22 But you know how Timothy has proved himself. Like a son with his father, he has served with me in preaching the Good News. 23 I hope to send him to you just as soon as I find out what is going to happen to me here. 24 And I have confidence from the Lord that I myself will come to see you soon. 25 Meanwhile, I thought I should send Epaphroditus back to you. He is a true brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier. And he was your messenger to help me in my need. 26 I am sending him because he has been longing to see you, and he was very distressed that you heard he was ill. 27 And he certainly was ill; in fact, he almost died. But God had mercy on him—and also on me, so that I would not have one sorrow after another. 28 So I am all the more anxious to send him back to you, for I know you will be glad to see him, and then I will not be so worried about you. 29 Welcome him in the Lord's love and with great joy, and give him the honor that people like him deserve. 30 For he risked his life for the work of Christ, and he was at the point of death while doing for me what you couldn't do from far away. Proverbs 18:24 - There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. Philippians 2:20 - I have no one else like Timothy, who genuinely cares about your welfare. 21 All the others care only for themselves and not for what matters to Jesus Christ. Disingenuous - not candid or sincere, rather pretending Proverbs 27:6 - Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. Philippians 2:25 - Meanwhile, I thought I should send Epaphroditus back to you. He is a true brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier. And he was your messenger to help me in my need. Proverbs 13:20 - Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. John 15:15 - I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn't confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.

When a PIP feels like a setup, how do you handle it without compromising your integrity? Trapped between an HR-driven process that feels like a sham and a direct report who's not meeting expectations? That's a management nightmare. When a boss hands you a struggling employee with the unspoken expectation that you'll “manage them out,” how do you stay honest, maintain trust, and avoid turning into the workplace grim reaper? Kim, Jason, and Amy break down the emotional and ethical toll of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), how to navigate them without feeling like a pawn, and why Radical Candor is the only way through. This isn't about sugarcoating or corporate theater—it's about handling tough conversations with clarity, fairness, and a whole lot less BS. Get all of the show notes at RadicalCandor.com/podcast. New year, new book, same old Cersei (pretending to be #New for the High Septon). Margo helps us retrace the steps of Cersei's life and unpack the complexities of her familial and romantic relationships (which are kind of one and the same at times). Where to find Margo https://x.com/King_Margosha https://bsky.app/profile/kingcersei.bsky.social References from Lo Essay: A MOST UNCOMMON WOMAN: Cersei Lannister's Gender Trouble Essay: Maidens, maidenheads, and the patriarchy- Virginity norms in ASOIAF Lo and Virginie's podcast, Ragman's Harbour Mentioned Quotes Susan Stryker definition: "I use [transgender] in this book to refer to people who move away from the gender they were assigned at birth, people who cross (trans-) the boundaries constructed by their culture to define and contain that gender. Some people move away from their birth-assigned gender because they feel strongly that they properly belong to another gender in which it would be better for them to live; others want to strike out toward some new location, some space not yet clearly defined or concretely occupied; still others simply feel the need to get away from the conventional expectations bound up with the gender that was initially put upon them. In any case, it is the movement across a socially imposed boundary away from an unchosen starting place- rather than any particular destination or mode of transition- that best characterizes the concept of ‘transgender' that I want to develop here." From Leslie Feinberg's Transgender Warriors: “Didn't Joan of Arc wear men's clothes?” I asked a friend over coffee in 1975. She had a graduate degree in history; I had barely squeaked through high school. I waited for her answer with great anticipation, but she dismissed my question with a wave of her hand. ”It was just armor.” She seemed so sure, but I couldn't let my question go. Joan of Arc was the only person associated with cross-dressing in history I'd grown up hearing about. I thought a great deal about my friend's answer. Was the story of Joan of Arc dressing in men's clothing merely legend? Was wearing armor significant? If a society strictly mandates only men can be warriors, isn't a woman military leader dressed in armor an example of cross-gendered expression?" ibid. : "No wonder you've passed as a man! This is such an anti-woman society,” a lesbian friend told me. To her, females passing as males are simply trying to escape women's oppression – period. She believes that once true equality is achieved in society, humankind will be genderless. I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't predict human behavior in a distant future. But I know what she's thinking – if we can build a more just society, people like me will cease to exist. She assumes that I am simply a product of oppression. Gee, thanks so much." From Alica Spencer-Hall and Spencer Gutt's Trans and Genderqueer Subjects in Medieval Hagiography: "Marginalised identities are often written out of the historical record by those with the privilege of formulating “historical truth”. The Middle Ages is frequently viewed as a time “where men were men, women were women, everyone was the same race and practised the same faith, and no one was corrupted by technology, sexuality or democracy”. This is not how any medievalist worth their salt would put it. Disingenuous interrogation of the presence of trans people in history is rarely about the factual specifics of the past alone. If talking about trans lives is “anachronistic”, then “trans-ness [is] not an inextricable part of humanity or human diversity”. The transphobe's dream is an imaginary medieval past in which everyone knows their (gendered) place. Similar themes emerge in the usage of the Middle Ages by the alt-right and beyond: those who fantasize a past in which everyone who mattered was straight, cisgender, white, and Christian. White supremacists and fascists weaponize the Middle Ages to justify their hatred. ------ Eliana's twitter: https://twitter.com/arhythmetric Eliana's reddit account: https://www.reddit.com/user/glass_table_girl Eliana's blog: https://themanyfacedblog.wordpress.com/ Chloe's twitter: https://twitter.com/liesandarbor Chloe's blog: liesandarborgold.com Intro by Anton Langhage

Former US Senate Sergeant at Arms and local political legend Larry Benoit is voting "no" on the Cape Elizabeth $94.7M school bond come November 5th for a lot of very good reasons. The bottom line? The tax burden for residents far outweighs any educational benefits. And claims by the local school board that the proposed alternative $42M bond to cover the cost of essential renovations and repairs has not been vetted? "Disingenuous," Benoit says. "Utter nonsense."

Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom. Hey there! Hopefully the weather is as perfect where you are as it is here this morning. Not east to do a show after a couple of tough losses, but Joey and I do our best to dissect the Racing match in Harrison NJ as well as LouCity's "Oh-so-close" in Seattle, as well as Up Open Cup results that, naturally, evolve (devolve?) into more "MLS is crap" comments :-) Thank you for listening! If you enjoy this, please LIKE SUBSCRIBE AND SHARE ... and as always, never forget to share the love!

Chris and Rob discuss why they believe LeBron James is being disingenuous when he says that people have been rooting for him to fail since 2003, tell us if the Boston Celtics' 52-point win over the Golden State Warriors proves they're the team to beat in the NBA and take a trip out to Shekel City for Rob's nightly bets. Plus, World Series champion and MLB Network host Kevin Millar swings by to discuss the pressure on the Los Angeles Dodgers following their offseason of spending, the impact Juan Soto could have on the New York Yankees, why the controversial rule changes of 2023 were absolutely necessary for the sport and much more!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We have both Adam Wodon and Brad Schlossman on the podcast to talk about the NCAA Regional format. Adam did't like Vegoe's word of Disingenuous, so I thought it made a great title to the show. Did we come up with a solution? No. But we are keeping the conversation going! We also got in to the 2pts in South Bend against Notre Dame. Previewed the final BigTen regular season series with Michigan as well.
Join James and Zack as they kick off the first episode of Season 3 in 2024! With the election year here, the guys will spend season 3 talking about all the issues Americans say they care about heading into the voting booth. The guys talk at length about the disingenuous, dishonest, disinformation that many commentators and politicians use to paint a narrative about any given issue. The only defense against this is to go to non-biased sources and get the facts. If someone is lying to you openly, or only cares about whether their opponent does something and couldn't care less if they do it themselves, you probably shouldn't buy what they are selling. Join us.
Oh boy did we have lots of technical problems this week! No video of either of us. And a slightly awkward edit near the beginning. But we’re still here to answer your home theater questions! Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 7, 2023 is: disingenuous dis-in-JEN-yuh-wuss adjective Disingenuous is a formal word that describes things, such as speech or behavior, that give a false appearance of being honest or sincere. Similarly, a person who is being disingenuous may seem sincere, but is in fact only pretending to be open and candid. // Her recent expressions of concern about the community center closing are disingenuous at best because she stands to benefit financially when the property is redeveloped. See the entry > Examples: “You know those one-line reviews on Amazon listings that don't quite seem legitimate? Like the ones that rate a product five stars and say something incredibly vague, like “This is such a great item,” without expanding on any specifics? Well, that's just one type of fake feedback that the FTC wants to crack down on. The FTC's proposed rule seeks to ban several different types of disingenuous reviews and would not just punish the companies that use them but also the brokers that falsify feedback.” — Emma Roth, TheVerge.com, 30 June 2023 Did you know? To be disingenuous is to feign sincerity—to pretend you are speaking genuinely and honestly while concealing an ulterior motive. Similarly, a disingenuous remark might contain a hint of truth, but it is delivered with the intent to deceive or to serve some hidden purpose. While not currently defined in our dictionary, the internet term sealioning might also shed some light on the meaning of disingenuous, especially if you've ever been dragged into an online argument with a stranger whose true purpose is to exhaust you and erode your goodwill. As media critic Anita Sarkeesian wrote for Marie Claire magazine, “Sealioning is when an uninvited stranger pops into your conversation and peppers you with unsolicited and insincere questions. The sealion politely demands evidence for even the most mundane or self-evident statements and insists that you justify your opinions until he's satisfied—which he never is, since he's asking questions in bad faith.” In other words: textbook disingenuous behavior.

Should you be able to say what you believe without fear of censorship or should the government be able to stifle speech and facts that it finds inconvenient? Obviously, our Constitution protects political and other speech but the left is no longer interested in a dialogue. It wants to control the narrative and our federal government is helping them do this.In this edition, Washington Examiner Investigative Reporter Gabe Kaminsky joins Sara to reveal what his ongoing investigation into the left's disinformation agenda is revealing, including how your tax dollars are being used to brand conservative voices and media outlets as disinformation and how the left is assaulting the truth more than anyone, most recently through revelations that no-Secretary of State Antony Blinken engineered the letter from 51 high-ranking national security experts that blatantly lied about the Hunter Biden laptop being Russian disinformation. Please visit our great sponsor:Allegiance Goldhttps://protectwithsara.comClick or Call 877-702-7272 tell them Sara sent you and get $5,000 of free silver on a qualifying purchase.Read Gabe's reporting:https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/author/gabe-kaminsky

Games people play: we've all been guilty at one time or another, whether intentionally or not. I'm referring to the disingenuous forms of communication we use in daily life. There are various reasons why we alter our communication in certain situations, and it's usually because we want something from another person. I'm joined by Heidi Smith, LPC, and one of my best friends, who just happens to be my former supervisor when I was learning to be a therapist. Let's dive deep into games, manipulation, boundaries, and relationships. Join us for the conversation around this fascinating topic! Show Highlights: Is it disingenuous communication, manipulation, or something in-between? Why attention-seeking behavior might really be connection-seeking behavior The “games” people play: The trump card, (the “Ace of Spades”), is the issue, trauma, circumstance, or affliction that someone believes gives them carte blanche to never have to change and to always be accommodated by others. Examples: ADHD, PTSD, a serious illness Some people learn the script to say that excuses them from accountability, like “I'm working on it.” Even with their objectionable behaviors, people deserve and want to be loved and accepted. Why, in our relationships, we have to be well and not allow others' behaviors that damage us How different people have different tolerance levels for discomfort in relationships The most powerful, insidious trump card: “If you do/don't do _______, I will kill myself.” Resources: Connect with KC: TikTok, Instagram, and Website Get KC's book, How to Keep House While Drowning
