Paul Foss stood in the what will be a double-wide trailer home. Right now, it looks more like a construction zone. Walls and floors are planks. People, who are volunteers, were using construction equipment to continue the necessary work. If Foss has his way, the mobile home construction site will be a mobile home ready for a family. In eyesight of the site is the reason so many people are volunteering to ready the mobile home. It is another mobile home. One that is blackened and charred, with about a third missing, the results of a Nov. 18 fire. The family who lived there lost everything, Foss told producer Heather Mongilio. So his organization, Waterboyz for Jesus, stepped up to help rehome the family by the winter holidays. Mongilio met Foss at the mobile home construction site to hear more about what happened to the family and what needs to happen to ready the trailer. Then, food and education reporter Katryna Perera joins Mongilio to talk about her latest food review. She reviews a bar in Walkersville that ranges from sandwiches to filet mignon.

Fred Berney proposed to his wife Ellen approximately a week after they met at a dance. The two have been married for more than 50 years, and owned a video business together. But in 2014, Ellen was diagnosed with spatial Alzheimer’s Disease. She has trouble drawing two intersecting rectangles, finding buttons on a remote, reading and knitting. While her eyesight is fine, her brain cannot see. Ellen had to stop working due to her diagnosis, and, every day, Fred faces a dilemma. If he works at the video company, he confines his wife to a chair in front of the television. If he takes care of Ellen, he cannot complete projects and is unable to bring in money. But the Berneys are not alone. Financial hardships are common among seniors as they face more health problems and limited incomes. Producer and host Heather Mongilio spoke with the Berneys at their Walkersville residence about how they met and their current financial strains. Then producer Wyatt Massey and features reporter Kate Masters join Mongilio in the studio to preview this week’s issue of 72 Hours.
WFMD is proud to announce our selection of the two high school Athletes of the Month for January, 2019: Basketball players Trumaine Strickland, a senior from Tuscarora High School and Saylor Poffenbarger, a sophomore from Middletown HIgh School. The Athlete of the Month programming is sponsored by Premiere Dental Arts, Altimate Electric and Canyon Contracting. Trumaine Strickland is a multi talented basketball player but perhaps his most exciting ability is to drive to the basket , even under what seems like solid defensive work by the opposing team. On the fast break he is close to impossible to stop and will find the smallest of openings on his way to the basket. He also can shoot the "Threes" and has an excellent mid range jump shot. His speed often gets him open to make beautiful passes to teammates. Saylor Pofffenbarger has the ability to dominate games both offensively and defensively. She has a deadly three point shot but can also drive to the basket and can pass off in mid flight to her teammates. She sees the entire floor and can pass from anywhere. Like Trumaine, she has an excellent jump shot. On defense she is a proficient shot blocker and at 6'2" can rule both the offensive and defensive boards with her rebounding. Trumaine Strickland: Leads all of Frederick County boys basketball in scoring averaging 23.3 points a gameHe is in 8th place in the County in assists , averaging 4 a gameHas scored more than 800 points in his high school career at Tuscarora under Coach Darryl Whiten. Walkersville is still looking for its first victory.
Coming off a 93-54 loss against Oakdale, Linganore showed no sign of letting up as this game was a real barn-burner all the way to the finish. In a tightly contested game, head coach Tom Kraft turned to sophomore phenom Thomas Lang; and he came up big in the 73-70 win over Walkersville last Friday....
