As the world moves forward into 2024, it's an opportune time for supply chain professionals to continue making even more positive marks on their organizations. A number of supply chain trends were discussed in this panel discussion featuring Mary Byrne, Vice President of Supply Chain at Cardinal Health, Liz Coddington, CFO of Peloton, Gus Shahin, CIO at Flex and Professor Morgan Swink from Texas Christian University cohosted by Kinaxis Board Member, Angel Mendez and Kinaxis Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Anne Robinson.Mendez shared his top 10 challenges supply chains faced in 2023: COVID-19 “hangovers”; a lackluster macroeconomy; persistent inflation; higher cost of debt with higher interest rates; an increasingly complex geopolitical environment; companies attempting to move their footprints away from Asia in a “deglobalization” trend; labor tensions in certain industries; climate effects; continued emphasis on sustainability and ESG; and a “technology renaissance resting on AI.” Byrne talked about how her organization's customers and partners are seeking more predictability in supply, while the supply chain itself must remain flexible. To create more resilient and responsive supply chains, conversations about technology and transformation will be important. [00:05:15]Sustainability can attract younger generations to supply chain careers, addressing a key need for 2024: strong talent. Swink says students are drawn to “changing people's lives for the better.” [00:28:37]Coddington believes AI presents great opportunities in 2024 Companies who figure out how to leverage their own team with machine learning/AI to improve processes, use automation in more efficient and effective ways and better forecast demand will have competitive advantages. In terms of advice, supply chain professionals can continue to bridge different strategies and collaborate with partners and other parts of the business, be agile “athletes” ready to respond to changes and new trends quickly. Of course, it's then critical that they communicate well at the ELT level to influence and educate. [00:44:59]For an in-depth discussion of these topics and several others, listen to our Big Ideas in Supply Chain podcast. To learn more about our guest panelists on this episode, follow them on LinkedIn:Mary ByrneLiz CoddingtonGus ShahinProfessor Morgan Swink

THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta Stay Alive is a 2006 American supernatural horror film directed by William Brent Bell, who co-wrote it with Matthew Peterman. The film was produced by Joseph McGinty Nichol, and released on March 24, 2006 in the United States. It was the first film released by Hollywood Pictures after five years of inactivity. After playing a video game titled Stay Alive, Loomis Crowley, his roommate Rex, and Rex's girlfriend Sarah are killed the same way as their characters were killed in the game. At Loomis' funeral, his friend Hutch meets Abigail – a friend of Sarah – and receives some of Loomis' possessions, including Stay Alive. Hutch, his girlfriend October, and her brother Phineus decide to play the game as a group. They are joined by Abigail and another friend, Swink, while Hutch's boss Miller plays online from his office. The game is set in a derelict mansion on Gerouge Plantation, but it only starts when the six players recite "The Prayer of Elizabeth," a request for "all who resist" to perish so that their blood can keep the Countess Elizabeth Bathory young. The players fight through a cemetery of evil ghost children, heading toward a mausoleum and tower. Miller is directed by the game to pick up a rose. October, a reader of occult literature, explains that undead spirits cannot move across wild roses. Separated from the others, Miller throws the rose to dispel the spirits of undead girls. Since he is now out of roses, a woman in a red dress, the Countess, kills Miller's character. Minutes later, the Countess appears in Miller's office and kills him by stabbing him with conjoined scissor blades like the ones in the game. Two detectives, Thibodeaux and King, question Hutch about the homicides. Hutch realizes that Loomis and Miller played Stay Alive right before they died, and that they died the same way as their game characters did. October researches Bathory and learns she would drain young women of blood, bathing in it to maintain her youth. Her weakness was mirrors because she could not stand to see herself growing old. Phineus decides to play alone, and despite quitting the game before his character can die, he is killed in real life when he is run over by a horse-drawn carriage. The survivors agree to stop playing Stay Alive. However, Detective King ignores Swink's warning and plays until his character dies. King is then killed in his car. Hutch and Abigail search Loomis' house and learn of the game developer's location: the real Gerouge Plantation. October has discovered that the real Countess Bathory was locked in the tower of her estate as punishment for her gruesome acts and vowed to return one day for revenge, which she is now able to do, as The Prayer of Elizabeth has resurrected her. The Countess can only be killed by driving three nails into her body to trap her soul. October sees the Countess in real life and tries to kill her but realizes that she is a ghost. She has her throat slit by the Countess. The three survivors realize that once the game has begun, it can play by itself. Swink stays in a van and plays the game on his laptop to distract Bathory, while Hutch and Abigail search Gerouge Plantation.

However, city officials clarified that this eye-popping figure was just a placeholder and not the actual fine. Connor had been pulled over for driving at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone, a significant violation. When he called the court, they informed him it was no mistake, and he'd have to pay it or go to court in December. In Savannah, if you're caught driving more than 35 mph above the speed limit, you have to appear in court, where the judge determines the real fine. So, Connor won't actually have to pay that enormous sum; the actual fine can't exceed $1,000, plus state-mandated costs. The city is also working on fixing the placeholder language to avoid any confusion. In this episode of the Top Contractor Podcast, hosts Bill Reiman and Nate Swink discussed the importance of good leadership and company culture. They emphasized the need for leaders to set an example and take ownership of any issues that arise, as well as the importance of showing up on time and having a positive attitude. "Leaders need to be the example," said Reiman. "If you're not showing up on time, if you're not taking ownership of issues, if you're not having a positive attitude, then you're not setting the example." The hosts also suggested investing in employees through continuous learning and growth opportunities, and rewarding them for their hard work. They discussed the importance of having core values that all team members share and understand, and how to build a strong team culture through regular team building events and taking employees out to lunch. Finally, they emphasized the importance of setting and maintaining a consistent vision for the company culture, and inspecting what is expected to cultivate a culture of excellence. "It's important to have a vision and to inspect what you expect," said Swink. "That's how you create a culture of excellence." Good leadership and company culture are essential for any business to succeed. Leaders need to set an example and take ownership of any issues that arise, and invest in employees through continuous learning and growth opportunities. It's also important to have core values that all team members share and understand, and to build a strong team culture through regular team building events and taking employees out to lunch. A couple of weeks after being named the new varsity football coach at Urbana High School, Dean Swink is this week's guest on The Final Score podcast. Swink chats with host Greg Swatek about why he wanted to be a head coach again after being away from such a position for more than a decade. He previously served as the head coach at Tuscarora High from 2009-11 and Walt Whitman prior to that. In the ensuring years, he was an assistant coach at both Damascus and Urbana, serving as the Hawks' defensive line coach last season. Swink talks about coaching NFL Draft prospect Bryan Bresee at both Urbana and Damascus. He discusses all of the nuances and added responsibilities that come along with his new job, his general disdain for social media and the overall vision he has for the Urbana football program. Prior to that conversation, FNP sports writer Alexander Dacy joins Greg to talk about the sudden end to the winter sports season in Frederick County. They discuss about the half-court heave that sank the Urbana girls basketball team, a terrific effort by the often-overlooked Oakdale girls, the first blemish for the Frederick boys and a difficult circumstance that ended the season for the Walkersville boys.
In this episode of The Real Build, I sat down with my good friend Nate Swink of Swink's Welding. Nate and I covered various topics about the welding industry, like building relationships, being present, opportunities in the industry, and focusing on the team. Nate is a true entrepreneur. After dropping out of high school at a young age, Nate started a business. He eventually got interested in welding and after following a mentor, started his own welding company Swink's Welding. Nate and I got deeper into the struggles he has faced as a young entrepreneur and how he is pushing forward. The struggles he is facing will only make him and his company better. I have no doubt Nate will be one of the top welding contractors in the United States. In 2022, most supply chain leaders are primarily focused on improving working capital as a way to combat inflation. Inventory positions are increasing as purchases are now cheaper than they will be 6 months from now… at least in theory. This perception and the actions it drives are putting further strain on an already overly taxed supply chain. In this Supply Chain Now livestream episode, Scott Luton and Greg White were joined by Dan Reeve and Nick Carpenter from Esker and Dr. Morgan Swink from TCU to explore how digital technology can help you improve your company's working capital - and where on the balance sheet to look for improvements: • How today's supply chain challenges are also affecting each company's suppliers and customers • The extent to which companies are purposefully managing their cash flow v. allowing external forces to dictate their choices • What Dr. Swink and his team at TCU learned from recent research into working capital practices and outcomes Additional Links & Resources: Learn more about Supply Chain Now: https://supplychainnow.com (https://supplychainnow.com) Check out our new Supply Chain Now Media Kit: https://bit.ly/3zKRLyL (https://bit.ly/3zKRLyL) Subscribe to Supply Chain Now and all other Supply Chain Now programs:https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe ( https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe) Leveraging Logistics and Supply Chain for Ukraine: https://vectorgl.com/stand-with-ukraine/ (https://vectorgl.com/stand-with-ukraine/) 2022 Q2 U.S. Bank Freight Payment Index: https://freight.usbank.com (https://freight.usbank.com) WEBINAR- Key Elements to a Successful WMS Lifecycle: https://bit.ly/3Q3F2O6 (https://bit.ly/3Q3F2O6) WEBINAR- How to Operationalize Supply Chain Resilience to Create Value in the Supply Chain: https://bit.ly/3QI6OjM (https://bit.ly/3QI6OjM) This episode is hosted by Scott Luton and Greg White. As we continue our journey through the C-3 Oral History Project, we welcome Judy Swink, a longtime C-3 champion, researcher, and librarian. Judy walks us through her early days in C-3, including how she joined amidst a battle over the location of the Naval hospital in Balboa Park. Judy also discusses how C-3 intersects many different interests, a few of the largest lessons she has learned in her work with Mission Bay Park and Beyond, and a few of her favorite takeaways from Clare Crane's work. Timestamps: [3:50] Judy talks about how she came to San Diego in 1970 and became connected with San Diegans through the sailing community. [6:53] Judy discusses her focus on regional parks and developing knowledge on both Mission Bay Park and Balboa Park. [9:56] How did Judy's role evolve from administrator to becoming an active board member and long-time member? What else has she done as she was on and off the board for two decades? [14:28] Judy has acted in institutional history in many of the causes that C-3 has been active in. [19:22] What are some of the largest impacts that Dr. Claire Crane created in San Diego? Judy talks about the mark she left behind on education, civil rights, democracy, and women's rights. [26:00] What does Judy mean by her definition of “the maturation of democracy”? [29:12] One of the things that C-3 really got behind and did some major fundraising for was towards a civic center downtown so it was not just government offices, but a small convention center and a Civic Theater. [32:08] Judy talks about Esther Scott and how she made Lloyd Ruocco's vision happen, along with a number of women who have been extremely important to San Diego. [36:12] What drew Judy into C-3 was the balance of the natural environment, the built environment, and the economic benefits that incorporate the natural world into the built world. [44:10] As a sailor, Judy was familiar with the walling off the East Coast and private beaches, so she was aware of what had to happen when it became a city-wide effort to establish a coastal height limit and preserve our coasts from becoming a Miami Beach. [45:31] What are some of the greatest lessons learned from the battles that set the tone for the development of San Diego? [50:57] There are communities, such as East County, who are coming to recognize the importance of the principles C-3 has advocated for so many decades. [52:29] What were some of the economic difficulties post-war in San Diego? [57:10] What other groups have partnered with C-3? Who is still closely aligned with C-3 in many areas of interest? Judy discusses the League of Women Voters, and the Sierra Club. [1:03:01] What role did C-3 play in garnering the distinction of an All American City Award in 1969? About C-3 In its 60 years of existence, Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 (C-3) has brought together local thought leaders from planning, design, policy, academia, community development, and more to address our region's distinctive and pressing land use challenges. In founding C-3 almost 60 years ago, architect Lloyd Ruocco's vision was to bring together our region's most creative minds from the arts, sciences, academia, and government to share ideas, learn new perspectives, and build fellowship around the idea of creating livable communities.
