Sadibou Sy finally reached the pinnacle last year, professionally speaking, but his ultimate goal remains in his sights. The 2022 Professional Fighters League welterweight champion (13-6-2, 1 NC; 7-4-2, 1 NC PFL) had his most successful season since signing with the PFL in 2018 as he defeated four opponents in a row in the span of six months, including former Bellator MMA champion Rory MacDonald, to capture the title and $1 million prize. Now, Sy will attempt to replicate that success in the 2023 PFL Regular Season, starting this week against former Brave Combat Federation standout Jarrah Al-Silawi. Ahead of his season debut, Sy told Sherdog his biggest motivation isn't external, but the constant pursuit of the best version of himself, and he believes he has yet to reach his full potential. “I didn't start fighting because of the money, fame, or whatever. For me, it was just to be able to push myself and see how far I could take it. I believe that you still haven't seen the best of me, and I'm working every day to be able to make myself proud. My goal has always been, if I make myself proud, the rest of the world are gonna be amazed. I'm not thinking about money, I'm just thinking, ‘OK, I need to prepare the best that I can and I'm gonna be better tomorrow than I was today.' That's my goal. Everything else around it is gonna sort itself out.”(00:00) Intro (00:52) Back in the States (01:51) His journey to Senegal(03:05) His fondest memory from last year (04:18) Being with PFL since Day 1(05:40) His thoughts on Al-Silawi (06:56) Training in Las Vegas (08:01) His four-bout winning streak(09:06) Coming from a kickboxing background (10:35) Differences between training in Sweden and the U.S. (11:54) His motivation for the 2023 season(13:06) Outro

Kid Kayo is one of a kind. He would never say that because his humility precedes him. I've known the champ for the better part of 10 years. But this is the first time that we were able to sit down and dive deeper into his story. What a treat. We spoke about him growing up with a boxing family history, the grind it takes to be a boxer out of Utah, a state that isn't synonymous with boxing champions. Recalling his fight with Keith Thurman and how he still feels something in his ribs, ha! Let's just say we covered a lot but have a few more rounds to go. See what I did there? Ha! This podcast had me inspired from the first bell! Kaye Scott joins me today to chat all things winning Silver at the recent Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and how she was the first female in NSW to break the boxing bias and compete in the ring! There were so many inspiring topics that we sank our fists into, including the financial commitment to pursue a love of sport and how little funding was available. We chat how much Kaye won as a silver medallist and as the No2 female Welterweight Champion in the whole of The Commonwealth (made my eyes water)! Kaye and I share her journey of grit, determination and what her weekly training schedule and nutrition look like. We touch on todays taboo topic of Transgender competition in Sport, how ageism is perceived in sport and how inspirational as a role model she is to up and coming females in sport.

We have a very special podcast for you this week. Michael McKinson is a professional boxer with a 20-0 record, but (up until 2021) he has (he feels) been overlooked for his big break. We spoke with Mikey just days before it was announced that he has been signed to a 3-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing. This came off the back of his biggest win to date, when Mikey beat Chris Kongo to land the WBO Global Welterweight title in the Sky Sports Box Office event in Gibraltar. Mindset / Success Habit themes: Mikey talks to us about: how he feels he has a point to prove and why this drives him forward. Seeing his recent success as day 1 platform, by no means the end result. Keeping head down and focussed when all around you is the glitz and glamour. Product of your environment and the importance of your social circle picking you up and driving you. The importance of doing something you enjoy. Training and dieting. The mental training not just the physical. And why being a role model for his daughter is his biggest inspiration. There is so much to learn from this impressive young man and so much more to come. One of the most telling moments of the interview is when he recalls winning a fight, but treating it as a defeat because he knew deep down he hadn't prepared at all well. This is the sign of a born winner, and we look forward to staying in touch with Mikey and seeing how his career develops with the support and promotional pulling power of Matchroom. Amongst all of the excellent lessons contained within, brace yourself for a story about a stag do in Vegas! Enjoy the show! Mindset Musings Message Thank you so much for supporting our Podcast. Keith Thurman the Former unified Welterweight Champion bust into the scene with a fire and excitement which was needed in the sport of boxing. The klitchko, Mayweather Era was an accomplished one, but lack the true Entertainment Performance value. Keith Thurman just didn't provide Action in the ring by recording k.o after k.o but also This young phenom had a gift of gab. Thurman could sell a fight with his mouth and fist. Thurman truly defined the eye of the tiger. He wanted it all and almost earned it all. But injuries after injuries stalled the progression and during that time the worse thing that could happen to any fighter happened. In the words of Micky (rocky movie). Thurman became civilized. Married his lovely wife, weight issues etc. The fire cooled off, the boiling water stopped boiling. His killer instinct was extinct. Recently lost to Manny Pacquiao a fight which Thurman needed to win not only for him but to close a chapter of an era. Thurman Failed, but Maybe just maybe That loss needed to happen to bring back that hunger and fire That we all miss from a potential HOF. Is the "Don't duck me son" Thurman has risen from the dead and ready to takeover?
