In today's episode, we had the privilege of hosting William Buist, a strategic visionary for owner-led businesses. Having started in the realm of insurance, William soon found himself at the heart of the merger between Lloyds and TSB in 1995. Though his initial project was cancelled, his journey over the subsequent seven years was nothing short of enlightening. William's experiences underscored the value of cultivating robust collaborative relationships within business units. By fostering such ties, he discerned a sharp decrease in management costs, leading to the realization of sustainable profits. But William's professional saga didn't stop there. His prowess was further spotlighted as he collaborated with business tycoons, aiding in the success of their collaborative endeavors. A notable project involved the Association of British Insurers, where William played a pivotal role in orchestrating a broad industry collaboration, aimed at curbing UK motor crimes through the efficacious sharing of data. With a wealth of experience under his belt, William birthed Abelard Management Services and the xTEN Club. Both entities champion a straightforward yet profound notion: a supportive, collaborative team is the key to magnifying one's impact on the world. To assist businesses in this collaboration journey, William has meticulously crafted the "Journey to Collaboration." Complementing this is his Business Clarity Model – a tool that offers an in-depth view of a business, its strategies, and its ultimate vision. This combination empowers business magnates to operate with purpose and clarity, thereby magnifying their global footprint. Away from the hustle and bustle of the corporate world, William finds solace in the tranquil British countryside. His penchant for walking and photography not only rejuvenates him but offers him a momentary escape from the ever-evolving corporate landscape. Additionally, William's deep-seated interest in the intricate fabric of our fast-changing society is evident. And if you're curious to delve deeper into his musings, a glimpse into his social media will undoubtedly satiate your curiosity. Join us as we unravel the myriad nuances of collaboration, strategic foresight, and the indomitable spirit of entrepreneurship with William Buist. Learn More Here: https://audit.williambuist.com

What does it take to rebuild from failure? Social Impact Pioneer, Daniel Mangena shares his journey - boom to bust and boom again. Today Daniel is a global soul, five-time author, and entrepreneurial coach. Despite hitting rock bottom after losing everything, Daniel rebuilt his life in a unique way, offering valuable insights into recharging oneself, finding purpose, and achieving success through adversity. Daniel's story is one of resilience and transformation. He candidly reveals that he once contemplated suicide, feeling that his life had lost all meaning. A late diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome, coupled with amassing and subsequently losing a great deal of wealth, took its toll. However, he managed to turn his life around and is now dedicated to empowering others to do the same. As an entrepreneurial advisor, Daniel firmly believes that success is within reach for everyone, regardless of their starting point. He encourages individuals to identify their passions and determine which ones they are willing to endure numerous failures and setbacks for. When asked about his advice for entrepreneurs who lack formal backing, such as smallholder farmers in emerging markets, Daniel shares that hard situations can be an advantage. He emphasizes the resourcefulness and problem-solving skills developed through navigating challenging circumstances. Failure, according to Daniel is not an experience but a choice. Rather than accepting circumstances as the end of the story, he encourages individuals to view failure as a test or a bump in the road. Drawing on his own experiences and the stories of successful businesspeople, he highlights how failure often precedes great success. This podcast conversation offers a unique perspective on personal growth, success, and social impact. Daniel's insights provide a roadmap for individuals seeking to rebuild from failure, find their purpose, and make a positive difference in the world. By embracing resilience, pursuing passions, and empowering communities, each person has the potential to create a life of meaning and contribute to a brighter future. As Daniel continues to inspire and empower others, his podcast episodes and books serve as valuable resources for those seeking personal and entrepreneurial growth. His message resonates with the human spirit, reminding us that success is possible for anyone, regardless of their past or present circumstances. So tune in, recharge your motivation, and embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and achievement. Doubt and uncertainty can fog the perception of businesses managing their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities. Can enterprises be thriving and profitable while addressing social injustices and environmental degradation? The evidence says "Yes," but how do we best articulate this? Meet Social Impact Pioneers Jennifer Owens and Kati Kallins. Two people with decades of experience working with people from across business areas – in that time Jenn and Kati have learnt a few things about how to better communicate environmental, social and governance topics. Buckle up for a deeply pragmatic conversation, stuffed full of practical guidance and insight. Jenn is a seasoned content strategy executive, she crafts compelling narratives, working with people across business to understand how, when and where to talk about sustainability and diversity. Concurrently, Kati Kallins, an adjunct professor at Hult International School of Business, she merges her passion for climate action and social equity with corporate sustainability. Having worked at Meta, Google, and the Environmental Protection Agency, Kati brings experience of both the communications and people engagement. This podcast is not a platform for idealistic discourse. It dives into practical, on-the-ground strategies, dissecting how businesses can contribute positively to a world where safety and sustainability are universal rights, not luxuries. It discusses ways to uphold profit and purpose, unravelling how these ideas are not at odds but, instead, a not-so-new business paradigm. Expect digestible takeaways and actionable tactics. So, let's lean in, listen, learn, and together navigate this journey towards a better future. Because at the end of the day, we all strive for a world that's not just profitable, but one that's also habitable and just. An inspiring episode with William Buist, a strategic mentor, speaker and author. We talk about how to create better workplaces. Some of the takeaways: One of the leaders' struggles is developing their own skills and talent so that they can be the best individual leader Leaders should know what their team really needs: some need more experience, some need more knowledge. Leaders should know how much additional knowledge their people really need and do not give much knowledge as this might confuse them. Each team member should be ideally given the job which he enjoys, instead of forcing them to perform jobs that they do not like. It is better to be vulnerable, so that people will reach out for help instead of criticizing. These and much more were discussed in this conversation. Until the next episode, stay INSPIRED and make the biggest difference in your area of responsibility and beyond. For any inquiries, please contact fouad@alame.ch

A Bit Of A Boost

We all know people who are the absolute masters of their craft, whether that's as an artist, in sports or in their job. We look at people who make it look so effortless and ask the question ‘how on earth do they do that!', yet often when we have mastery of an aspect in our lives we dismiss it or don't even notice it as being anything exceptional.   Parenting, in our relationships, in our own approach to exercise or perhaps an aspect of our own jobs, there are likely to be areas that we have achieved a level beyond ‘consciously competent'.   My guest on today's episode is William Buist and he talks about intentional mastery and the stages that go before it. The area that he specialises in is small business mentoring, but the concepts and strategies that he offers are translatable to almost every other aspect of our lives.   William and I have worked together in the past and I recently read his new book by the same name - Intentional Mastery - and I was intrigued to see an entire chapter devoted to the importance of ‘Self', where he discusses emotional wellbeing, physical wellbeing and mental resilience.   William also has his own inspirational story of making changes in his life to reflect the need to take better care of his health and energy, and I ask him about how he started on his journey towards losing 2 stone and keeping it off.   If you've ever yo-yo'ed with your weight loss in the past I think you'll find this particular section of interest.   You can find out more about William's work (and the book) through his website or LinkedIn: https://www.williambuist.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/wbuist
