Wherever you look, people's happiness across the life span follows a U-shaped curve, with its nadir occurring right around age fifty. Happiness starts to decline in the late thirties and early forties, bottoming out between the late forties and early fifties, before beginning to rise again from the late fifties into the seventies and eighties. At that point, people's happiness tracks show a good deal of variability that depends on whether and when serious health issues arise….“...A similar pattern is revealed by antidepressant use. Data from twenty-seven European nations documenting the consumption of these drugs shows an [hill-shaped] pattern across the same ages. Antidepressant use starts increasing in the mid-twenties, peaks in the late forties, and then drops through the sixties and seventies. In fact, the data make clear that people are three times more likely to take antidepressants around the age of fifty than around the ages of twenty or eighty.”David DeSteno, How God WorksScriptures Referenced:Psalm 90:3-6, 103 You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.” 4 A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. 5 Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death—they are like the new grass of the morning: 6 In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered... 10 Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.Ecclesiastes 12:1-81 Don't let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” 2 Remember him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky. 3 Remember him before your legs—the guards of your house—start to tremble; and before your shoulders—the strong men—stoop. Remember him before your teeth—your few remaining servants—stop grinding; and before your eyes—the women looking through the windows—see dimly. 4 Remember him before the door to life's opportunities is closed and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow faint. 5 Remember him before you become fearful of falling and worry about danger in the streets; before your hair turns white like an almond tree in bloom, and you drag along without energy like a dying grasshopper, and the caperberry no longer inspires sexual desire. Remember him before you near the grave, your everlasting home, when the mourners will weep at your funeral. 6 Yes,...

How did it go?What do you think is your "plus" to the gospel? What does it mean to you that Jesus not only took away your sins, but gave you his righteousness? **This sermon was preached by Lucas Turner, a former partner of missio Dei: Falcon, currently on mission in Central Texas as a College and Young Adult Minister at a Baptist church.
Ashley Chestnut serves as the Young Adult Minister at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama, where she disciples women. Episode 98: IS IT A SIN TO MASTURBATE? "Am I the Only One?"This episode contains discussion about pornography and masturbation that affects all of us with a special focus on youth and young adults in our community. It contains the personal testimony of the suffering of a young minister who lived through this suffering and was graced with the love of our Lord Jesus. We encourage parents to listen to this episode with their youth and young adults to get passed the discomfort of the topic and face head on with accountability in order to achieve redemption from this addiction. An addiction that distorts the gift of intimacy. We chose a few listener questions which we included in the discussion:Is it a sin when it has become an addiction to masturbate? Perhaps you also masturbate when you are stressed out? What do you do when you are going to confession for falling into sin and you feel like you're not making any progress?I know many friends and students in my life who struggle with this but there are some girls (probably more than want to admit) who have confided in me their struggles. What would you say/encourage to a student on how to break the habit or sustain the break from the habit? What do you do when temptation of that kind strikes?I think too, a big thing is many people have the misinformation that girls don't struggle with addictions to masturbation and pornography. Many Catholics are influenced to think that sex is bad and so all thoughts of sex can be bad but that's because there is no knowledge of TOB.I've actually thought about this before and I looked into it. An yes it is a sin to fall into lust and lust is not only limited to sex and masturbation, it's really anything such as food and other things that lead you away from God. that is what I boiled it down to.Does it ever eventually become easier to fight the temptation? For me the temptation come basically every day and sometimes several times throughout the day and the longer and longer I go without it [masturbation], the harder it seems to fight the temptation.I want to know if addiction to masturbate still exist in marriage?People downplay this struggle many face as natural. Women are also promoting this more and more.In society in which this behavior/addiction is normalized, how can someone overcome the "it's not a sin" mindset? Are there any programs or resources that help with this behavior? At the 1 hour 18 minute - Chaplet of the Angelic Warfare Confraternity (www.angelicwarfareconfraternity.org)We thank Delaine Baronia, Young Adult Minister and CoHost and Co-creator of Chasing Magnanimity Podcast, for her courage in sharing her story.Resources:* Lifeteen - www.thevictoryapp.com* Covenant Eyes - www.covenanteyes.com * https://spiritualdirection.com/2014/11/25/sins-of-ignorance-and-sins-of-the-flesh* DM Delaine @delainejudith for more information on her walk towards redemption.Remember to like, subscribe and recommend to a friend. Eights are often called the Challengers, but I like to call them the Protectors or Defenders. Every type has a basic fear and desire coloring the waters of their personality. The basic fear of an Eight is being not in control of their self. The basic desire is to avoid feeling weak or vulnerable. But Eights can often be misinterpreted. Though they can often appear blunt and aggressive, Eights are truly about justice and looking out for their tribe and making sure others feel like they belong. Eights have lots of energy. They are high energy, movement people who like to see things get done. The downside of Eights might be that they are low on the vulnerability side of things. They only trust a small amount of people, and though it may take a lot to get in the trust circle, it doesn't take much for you to get out. It's very hard to get on the list, and then you just have to do one thing and you're off the list. But what does it look like when an Eight has done their work and views life through the healthy lens of an Eight? Listen in as Patrick Chappell discusses various triggers and how he approaches them from the lens of an Eight. Patrick is southern born and bred, having been born in Birmingham and raised in Chattanooga. Patrick earned his degree in Oral Communication and Public Relations from Lipscomb University. He then served as an Admissions Recruiter for the University, traveling the country to bring students to Nashville for a Christian education. He is currently the College and Young Adult Minister at Otter Creek Church in Brentwood, TN. Patrick is passionate about life, spending many hours reading, going to concerts, taking in movies and his favorite TV shows, as well as spending countless hours over coffee with friends. He's also a big fan of the band Weezer.

Pastor Tacuma Johnson is a Messenger. He has accepted God's call to "build the infrastructure for the Kingdom of God." Jesus said, "I AM the vine and you are the branches." As you know, vines have to grow along another structure--unlike a tree they are not strong enough to stand upright on their own. In the same way, our lives grow along the educational, economic, familial, and religious institutions around us. In this season, Pastor Johnson believes that God wants us to rely less on the institutions of this world, and build infrastructure to support Kingdom Living. Pastor Tacuma Johnson, is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. He earned an undergraduate degree at Morehouse College in History . After his 1995 graduation, he returned to North Carolina where he gained business management, sales, and finance experience in the real estate business. However, during this time, he discerned the call of God to Christian ministry. He served as Young Adult Minister then Assistant Pastor for several years. Responding more decisively to his calling, he returned to school and in 2003, earned a Masters of Divinity at Wake Forest Divinity School. He also completed a chaplain residency program at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and interned a homeless shelter and street ministry as well as Hospice. Pastor Johnson was called to Greater First United Baptist Church in 2008, and served as its Senior Pastor through the Fall of 2014. Pastor Johnson’s wife, Dr. Michelle T. Johnson is in Kingdom Partnership with him to accomplish the mission of God. She is a graduate of Spelman College and the University of NC at Greensboro, where she earned her Ph.D. in English. She is the founder of Alabaster Woman Ministries, an international ministry offering education and inspiration across denominational, cultural, and regional lines. The Johnsons have two young daughters, Mikhayah and Saraiyah who light up their lives and hearts.
