Host Sue Duffield's guest, Susan Piper, is a Christian singer, song and story writer who spends her days in nursing homes, wielding a guitar with her right hand and pushing her Havanese pup in a stroller with her left, continually being ministered to by the ones she seeks to serve. Sue met Piper at a Christian conference almost twenty-five years ago, and that meeting made quite an impression on both. Piper sings and speaks for retreats, women's luncheons, family events and church outreaches. Her new book, "A Blessing Is In It", contains the God-journey and stories of this once alcoholic to creative communicator of the gospel. "I visit them but they open their hearts to me. I ask them about their lives and they tell me their stories; sometimes it's the same story again, but it is so important it bears retelling. I knock and they are glad to see me. I offer myself as a stranger and they welcome me in without question. If the hymn is worthy of tears they cry; it was their mother's favorite, it was played at their daughter's funeral. They don't or can't hide their feelings, they are who they are. They follow me down the hall; they say they were sad before I came and please come again because I've made their day. They have done more than that for me. They've changed my life.  Excerpt from "He Leadeth Me," A Blessing Is In It By Susan Piper  www.susanpiper.com www.sueduffield.com

Coffee with Keith: Helping LGBTQ+ Christians Heal Religious Trauma, Construct Authentic, Affirming Faith, and Develop Healthy

On today's episode of "Coffee with Keith," I invite HT to the podcast.  HT (who goes by they, them) is an educator, advocate, and musician from Austin.  They have 2 dogs, a golden retriever, and a black lab.  HT grew up in the conservative, southern Baptist culture as a gay kid.  They didn't come out until the age of 21, so before then, HT led worship and bible studies throughout the teen and young adult years. HT worked at several churches as a children's minister or youth group volunteer. Now HT is exploring deconstruction as they were outed by a mentor and kicked off the leadership team and worship team at the age of 21.  HT has been slowly walking away from the religion they grew up on and advocating for people to change their perspective and drop the toxic evangelical theology of their upbringing.  HT also advocates for a better world by speaking out for those who do not have a voice, or those who are still in the closet and can't quite use their own voice safely yet.To connect with HT across all social media: @gaychristiankidTo connect with me on Instagram, visit here.Free Support Group:  Christian Rainbow GroupFree Support Group:  Christian 4 UnityChurch Trauma Package (1-1, 6-week coaching for LGBTQ+)Coaching for the Parent of a LGBTQ+ Child of any ageBoundary Setting 101: Single Coaching SessionBrand New Digital Course (low intro price) Boundary Setting 101Support the show with a $5 gift.To visit my website and get all my freebies, visit here.Visit www.jkeithbrown.com and look at the top of the landing page to grab your FREE copy of this .pdf worksheet. Podcast for #InspiredByTheWord Devotion for 19th September 2021 Every word and sentence in today's devotional article goes deep inside; but just take a look at the very penultimate one - "LIFE WORKS IN YOU." If you knew what that means, you'd walk out on anything and everything that represents death in your life. Like the Music Minister, the Esteemed Dcn Buchi would say, "Why should a man carry God and die?" I ask you, "Why should you carry God and fail? Why should you carry God and be sick?" Why should you carry God and be thrown out of work/business because you refuse to take the vaccine?" I thought this world was willed to us as Abraham's seed? I don't know what you've tolerated before now; be reminded that Christ, who is your life, works in you. Don't carry such a life and be a victim in this life. It's an absolute insult to the Christianity brought to us. Refuse to be subject to the depravities and negativities of this world; look, arise and live! Fight for your right to live (and how you should live). Go study the book, "YOUR RIGHTS IN CHRIST." God bless you!

When you hear the word ‘WORSHIP’, what comes to your mind? What comes to your mind when you think of worshipping and glorifying God? In the Christian recording industry, the words ‘WORSHIP’ and ‘MUSIC’ have almost become synonymous. Even church terminology has changed over time to call the role of the Music Minister a Worship Leader or Worship Pastor. Though “worship music” is beneficial, has our focus on it caused us to define worship too narrowly? The role of music and singing in Christian worship is biblical and plays a vital role in the life of God’s people. Today, we often chatter back and forth about different types of worship, whether its traditional, contemporary, or charismatic. But have you ever sat down and really contemplated what it means to “worship God?” Why do we sing, pray and kneel before God? Is God pleased with the way we worship? If God is the centre of existence, maybe we should learn what He really expects from us. In another perspective, if man creates and directs his own existence, why bother worshipping anything! Let's join Tony as he looks at the topic of Biblical worship from an angle you may never have considered.Support the show (https://www.greatcommissionsociety.org/donate)

Katelyn's enjoyment of music is apparent in her conversation. We talk about the well-rounded developmental benefits of music and the sad lack of music teachers these days.  Below are some tips and discussion points from this episode. Points to Ponder:You can take music with you throughout your life. Parents might do well to think if playing an instrument may be more attractive to your child if devices aren't as readily available. Also, consider if devices in general may be making you respond to your family members in an irritated fashion and maybe approach your children regarding this topic in a way that presents you as the parent as struggling with this. If you play an instrument yourself, perhaps you could informally share some of what you know with those you spend time around, especially younger people. If you decide to purchase an instrument, consider talking to someone experienced with that instrument before you make your purchase!Topics Mentioned:Cornerstone ChurchHappy Rant podcastPositive Sobriety podcast about brain and musicMr. Holland's OpusContact Us!!Counseling with HopeEmail: feedback@nhnlc.comInstagram Twitter

While we've been mourning the close of our former WDEK podcast home, the HiFi Bar we are excited to host our first show of 2018 at Caveat, a new speakeasy space in LES which showcases "intelligent nightlife." Yeah, we know what you are thinking.  Let us be delusional for a little while, will you? Christian and Shonali discuss good (not so good depending on who you are talking to) times had at the MLK tribute at BAM, the NYC Women's march and Barry's Bootcamp. Below is the pic we shared of Christian from the Women's March during the show.  Our first guest is New York Times reporter Melena Ryzik.  Melena is a bad ass NYC bicylist.  Find out why she had to get fingerless gloves.  Melena is a journalist at the forefront of covering the MeToo movement and sexual harassment in the entertainment world (Louis CK, Russell Simmons.)  We get into it.  Christian says he wants to listen .... let's see how long.  Our second guest is a Russian Hacker* Eugeny Smith who happened to be in our audience during the show just as Shonali suspected.  He not only confesses to reading Shonali's emails but he reads them to the world. So embarrassing.   Our third guest is multi instrumentalist, composer, producer, visual artist Emily Wells.  Emily's work is stunning.  She describes growing up with a Music Minister father, building a world around her during her performance, choreographer Pina Bausch and her love of what she does. Purchase Emily's music asap!  Emily performs two songs for us at the end of the show.  Uta Seibicke joins us for Get It Off Your Chest!  Man of The Woods, adults charmed by their young children's bathroom breaks, and the subway are our topics of conversation. Our last guest is Danielle Gray, former Obama Cabinet Secretary and Senior Adviser to President Obama. Kudos to her for making it to the show on what was for her a very tough night (listen to Ep to find out why.)  Danielle tells us what is was like for her working at the White House. She also gives us some insight as to how during this past year she stays focused on causes she believes in and stays a good distance from social media.  Have you heard of 3 Card Monte? Danielle a real New Yorker knows what it is.   Our Russian Hacker is played by Alan Yaspan.

Working in Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic genres, he performs original classically-styled music on computer instruments of his own design. Born into a scientific family, Slepian showed both musical and technical talent early in life. In 1968, he programmed computers and built electronic music circuitry, sculpting sound with classic electronic music studio tape techniques. In 1972, he was a tester on the early internet as a member of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Don has been presented by WNYC's “New Sounds” show in New York's Lincoln Center, by the French Ministry of Culture at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, by the Karen Baptist Church for performances in the refugee camps at the border of Burma and Thailand, and has toured in Hong Kong and Singapore, among other venues, around the world. He currently webcasts from his studio in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. He is President of Local 577, American Federation of Musicians and Music Minister at All Souls Christian Center of East Stroudsburg, PA. Mitchell and Don first met and got friendly in the mid-1980's when they were both part of a spiritual community (Synchronicity Foundation) using music and language to create coherence between the two hemispheres of the brain, clear the subconscious mind  of old, bad habits and open the way for novel thought and development.
