Welcome back to the Soul Summit Podcast – Presented by Her Outdoor Journey and proudly sponsored by Maven Optics, Bakcou E-Bikes, HOYT Archery, onX Maps, and Sawyer Products! In this episode of the Soul Summit Podcast, host Courtney Prete sits down with Morgan Wines, a guide and game warden whose passion for hunting started at just 12 years old. Morgan opens up about her early hunting days with her mom, the unforgettable lessons from an Alaskan moose hunt, and why self-reliance in the wilderness is a must-have skill for every young hunter. The heart of the episode is all about glassing—the art and science of spotting animals from a distance without disturbing them. Morgan breaks down how understanding your optics, including what those numbers on your binoculars actually mean, can dramatically improve your success in the field. She shares tips on using a stable rest, why comfortable harnesses are game-changers, and how consistent practice with your optics can elevate your skills. We also highlight the power of community through events like the Women's Wilderness Summit, where women in hunting come together to grow, learn, and connect. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your backcountry techniques, this episode delivers practical strategies, memorable stories, and inspiration to help you become a more effective and confident hunter. If you hike the loop counter-clockwise the first 1.5 miles are a leg burner as you climb toward New Year Peak, but the next three miles are mostly flat and very scenic as you trek toward Burnett Peak. The final few miles are downhill, and you can take a side trail to the Lewistown Overlook to add an additional mile to your hike. A ghost story, an Old West shootout, a historical mystery, and an episode of CSI all rolled into one. We share the dramatic tale of Rattlesnake Jake and Buckskin Owens, two outlaws who attempted to terrorize the citizens of Lewistown, Montana, on July 4th, 1884, only to find themselves on the wrong end of a hail of bullets. But the story does not end there. When Susan Craun, a Forensic Anthropology graduate student at the University of Montana, discovered that a local museum had displayed a skull purported to be the remains of Rattlesnake Jake for decades, she embarked on a quest to verify its authenticity. Susan joins us to share her compelling findings and provide insights into working with the potential remains of a local legend. The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers. Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword cand fell upon it. And when his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him. - 1 Samuel 31:3-5 This Episode's Links and Timestamps: 00:24 – 1 Samuel 31 02:29 – Thoughts on the Reading 23:11 - Police discover 115 bodies in 'green' funeral home in Colorado after reports of sickening stench in the area – Collin Jones, The Blaze 41:26 - Storing guns away from home could reduce suicides, but legal hurdles loom – Aaron Bolton KFF Health News, Billings Gazette 55:56 - Kamala Harris is out here endorsing an Australian-style gun ban after the shooting in Maine last night – Edward Teach, NTB 1:11:10 – 2023 Lewistown shootings – Wikipedia 1:19:36 - Nashville Shooter Decried ‘Crackers' And ‘White Privilege,' Leaked Manifesto Pages Reveal – Luke Rosiak, DW --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/garrett-ashley-mullet/message

On day 5, we are headed to Lewistown, Idaho. It is also home to Lewis and Clark State College, where 21-year-old Kristina Nelson was a student in 1982. Kristy, as her friends and family call her, was a bright, articulate student studying business. While not attending classes, she enjoyed her passion for painting. She started a job as a custodian at the Lewiston Civic theatre to get to know more community members. Kristy's step-sister, 19-year-old Brandy Miller, also worked at the theater with Kristy. Just like Kristy, Brandy was artistically inclined. On September 12, 1982, Kristina left a note for her boyfriend, who would be coming over later to hang out with them, and she didn't want him to be confused when Kristy and Brandy were not home. The two needed to go to the store to pick up a few snacks for the night. The note assured him they would be home soon. Plans changed as Kristy's boyfriend got home from work and fell asleep instead of going to hang out with Kristy. The following morning, he headed to Kristy's apartment and found no one home. He did see the note from the night before on the table. Not thinking much of it, he went on his way. However, when the day came and went, the following day, having still not heard from her, he went to the Lewiston theatre and learned that she had failed to show up for work. In fact, none of Kristy's friends had seen her at all. Kristy was very responsible, and her friends knew something was wrong. The boyfriend went to the police to file a missing person report for Kristy and Brandy.Join Jen and Cam on the 5th Annual Our True Crime Podcast's 12 Nightmares Before Christmas -Day 5:Valley of Death: The Lewis Clark Valley MurdersListener Discretion by @octoberpodVHS All music is courtesy of our Executive Producer @wetalkofdreams Sources:https://vimeo.com/51442715:Confluencehttps://lmtribune.com/northwest/fbi-keeps-file-open-on-kristin-david-case/article_ec559279-df44-5002-a29f-4d2c18bb978c.htmlhttps://lmtribune.com/northwest/fbi-keeps-file-open-on-kristin-david-case/article_ec559279-df44-5002-a29f-4d2c18bb978c.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Center_for_Missing_and_Exploited_Childrenhttps://klewtv.com/news/local/a-look-into-the-suspect-in-christina-white-disappearance
Just outside of Lewistown in Mifflin County is a picturesque little valley of patchwork farms and ancient barns. Known as Ort's Valley, this was the home of Henry Ort who, in 1903, bequeathed the cemetery on his farm to be held in trust for future burials of his descendants. Perhaps then it is no surprise that, shortly before his death in 1907, Henry Ort experienced a supernatural event that not only astounded newspaper reporters, but seemed to suggest that a heavenly reward had been set aside for him by a Higher Power.
