John Harwood from CNN decided to promote a statement he made almost a year ago in defense of Joe Biden's Satanic Speech. He did this because John Harwood has determined that it is a “threat to our ‘democracy'” to NOT ALLOW insurrections against legitimate legislative business. In honor of Harwood's buffoonery, we go on a hunt today to see if we can somehow find the ACTUAL threats to our Republic, with the Text of the Declaration of Independence as our guide. Is it a threat to our Republic CBS News's senior political analyst explains Republicans MADE the people in Tennessee who work with a mob that physically battled with cops to get into the legislative chamber and then seized the floor and stopped the business of the people because Republicans were supposed to give them what they screamed to have?Is it a threat to our Republic that the Democrats found a way to do a Watergate Burglary against Trump, at the orders of the people who run Joe Biden as has now been proven beyond any doubt? Maybe it's a threat to our Republic that the charges The Party is using against Trump in NY have already gone pas the Statute of Limitations? Is a clearly senile, blatantly corrupt man being a figurehead leader while the real bosses of government get to operare in the shadows a threat? So, today we play a game: let's find the threats to our Republic. What does God say? The Bible has much to say about wicked rulers. See how many match what we see today. God is not mocked, He is in charge and has already won. John Hardwood from CNN: “the threat to democracy TN has dramatized today comes from a minority of Americans - disproportionately white, male, conservative Christians - terrified of losing power and status in a changing country, the desperation of their efforts may make them lose power and status faster.CBS Warns TN Republicans Left Dems No Choice But to Get ViolentAmerican Legal Foundation: Records obtained from our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Mar-a-Lago raid further confirm that the FBI obtained access to these records through a “special access request” from the Biden White House on behalf of the DOJ.Yes, The Statute Of Limitations Has Passed On Bragg's ‘Get Trump' CaseFLASHBACK, AUGUST 2022: @EricTrump: “Make no mistake… this did not happen without Joe Biden's explicit approval. What is media's role in this age of Trump? That's exactly what John Harwood and I discussed this week. John has covered the White House, Congress, national politics and the economy for more than three decades and received an Emmy nomination for his hour-long live CNBC town hall with President Barack Obama. His expertise provides insight into the media that provided an entirely new outlook on the impact it has today. Tune in on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and don't forget to watch on my YouTube channel.
THIS IS VICHY CNN A-Block (1:37) SPECIAL COMMENT: Apropos of the Vichy CNN shake-up yesterday that saw Chris "Ate Paste" Licht reward Jake Tapper after he defended the "Special Master" ruling and attacked those on MSNBC who attacked CNN's biased analysis, and rewarded Alisyn Camerota for questioning whether what Ron DeSantis did to the asylum-seekers in Texas could really be kidnapping because they were treated so well by their rescuers in Martha's Vineyard, let's look again at the beginning. When Licht fired Brian Stelter and cancelled "Reliable Sources," we didn't know he had also already fired John Harwood. When I knew him at MSNBC, Licht was Joe Scarborough's hatchet-man. And now he's John Malone's. This... is Vichy CNN. B-Block (19:57) SPECIAL COMMENT: Would that it were exclusive to CNN. It's not. Every news outlet in the country has had "the" meeting: 'If this country goes fully fascist, how do we protect our profits?' The meetings began at MSNBC in 2006 - and they have never stopped. I told that story in the first episode of this series and it's worth revisiting it in the context of the collapse in the only ratings measurement that counts in television: viewers aged 25-54. These ratings at MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News are as low as they've been in 20 years, and MSNBC's newest show has settled in nicely into last place in prime time in the category. The fear of offending Right Wingers will kill the profits of cable news long before fascist oppression can. C-Block (38:38) SPECIAL COMMENT: With a little perspective, the obsession of CNN and other right wing media with the presence of two marines in the background of President Biden's Philadelphia speech about the threat posed by MAGA-Republicans, seems ridiculous and futile. EVERYTHING they've done since has served merely to prove that the president was right; contrast what Biden said in Philadelphia to the Q-Anon references and Q-Muzak and mass fascist salutes and stochastic calls to violence that Trump presented in Youngstown.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The idea of America as a true “land of opportunity” is anathema to their ideal of a nation of “classes and orders” where every person knows their place and morbidly rich white men are in charge. Crazy Alert! Trump Is pushing FBI looking for Hillary's emails at Mar-a-Lago?! The Internet solves Trump's "Peekaboo" Letitia James slur. John Harwood sums It up in a tweet - the juxtaposition of two events in NYC today - Biden's speech to the UN and the NY AG's fraud suit against the Trumps - underscores the simplest contrast: a decent man who believes in the American experiment has replaced an indecent con man, who does not, as president of the US. CNN is a cable news network in flux. Earlier this month, John Harwood, its White House correspondent, announced his departure one day after he stated on air that, “The Republican Party right now is led by a dishonest demagogue. Many, many Republicans are rallying behind his lies about the 2020 election.” The network also recently fired Brian Stelter, a frequent critic of Trump and Fox News. The changes at CNN have caused speculation that these moves may be influenced by cable mogul, John Malone, one of its major investors, who has praised Fox News and openly expressed a hope that CNN would “evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing.” But where is the middle ground when some politicians routinely attack the truth as lies and push misinformation as truth? We'll talk to media critic Jay Rosen about the future of journalism in a post-Trump era. Guests: Jay Rosen, press critic and editor, PressThink.org; professor of journalism, New York University
New masters, new direction: CNN fired Brian Stelter and cancelled his show Reliable Sources (which was on the air for 30 years) and then, on September 2nd, John Harwood, was pushed out the door as well.Cable News Network was the brainchild of Ted Turner and it was based on a revolutionary concept at the time, a concept that changed the notion that news could only be reported at fixed times throughout the day. CNN was the world's first 24-hour television news network, and it made its debut on June 1st 1980 from its HQ in Atlanta Georgia. As we said in the intro, in its first years of operation, CNN lost money and was ridiculed as the Chicken Noodle Network but they started growing, covering events all over the world LIVE and their audience grew. If you like our content, please become a patron. John Malone is a right-leaning billionaire libertarian, close friend of the Murdoch family, and key Warner Bros Discovery board member. In 2021, CNN at AT&T spined off and combined Warner Media with Discovery, so now CNN is a Warner Bros Discovery WBD entity. And with this change of corporate hands, came a new board and .. new masters. Both Brian Stelter and John Harwood described Donald Trump as a “demagogue” in their last appearances on the network. 1, 2 John Malone, a Fox News fan and Trump donor, has deep and longstanding ties with David Zaslav, the CEO of WBD. In an interview with CNBC in 2021, John Malone said, “I would like to see CNN evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing.” 3 He proposed a model: “Fox News, in my opinion, has followed an interesting trajectory of trying to have ‘news' news, I mean some actual journalism, embedded in a program schedule of all opinions.” Hen also said, according to Vox, that “a time of change” is coming.. Is CNN turning into Fox News Light? Malone has denied he is “directly involved” in any decisions about CNN, but multiple current and former staffers who spoke to journalists are indicating that Malone is indirectly dictating an agenda to Chris Licht, the newly installed CNN boss. 4 1. WHERE'S TRUMP'S DENIAL? A BLOCK (1:50) SPECIAL COMMENT: Everybody from Lindsey Graham to Marco Rubio to Kellyanne Conway attacked The Washington Post for reporting the FBI found a Top Secret document stashed at Mar-a-Lago "describing a foreign government's...nuclear capabilities." But who came out and said 'Nah, Trump DIDN'T DO IT?' Isn't ANYBODY going to deny it? (3:57) Even some nonsensical 'he did it to secure the documents' defense? No? Nothing? (4:24) Three DAYS before Nixon resigned, Congressman Chuck Wiggins was still insisting Nixon was innocent! Three days! NOBODY believes Trump DIDN'T do this! (6:00) Or is the "foreign government" really Israel and they're all too terrified to say anything? (6:25) But if it were Israel wouldn't Mitch McConnell throw Trump overboard to protect his own ass? (7:30) The other news: Steve Bannon Day. He says "they'll have to kill me first." Sounds like a plan. (7:42) Who is William S. Russell and why does the January 6 Grand Jury want to hear from him? (8:30) And yes, CNN led an hour last night pushing one of the 'The Real Crime Is The Leak' stories. The turning has begun. (11:00) When new CNN boss Chris Licht and I were together at MSNBC, I thought he ate glue (11:15) I've known Licht's first talent hire - Cop Apologist John Miller - since I worked with him in 1978! If you need a living symbol of CNN's coming conservatism, Miller is it. He's so bad that even New York Mayor Eric Adams (himself an ex-cop) apologized for him! B BLOCK (18:30) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DIE: Deserey, and a desperate need for fosters in NYC (20:55) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The problem with Obama's portrait, comparative life expectancy, Oath Keepers in our midst. (22:55) IN SPORTS: The guy from the Minnesota Twins? His cousin wrote Hamilton; Jerry Seinfeld blames "Timmy Trumpet" for the Mets slide; MSG boss Jim Dolan steps in political crap yet again (28:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Fox News screwing up the bio of a founding father, Senator Ron Johnson, and Michigan's Kristina Karamo vie for honors. C BLOCK (32:10) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The man I met on 9/11, who cheated death because the regular men's room attendant at a top New York City restaurant. It's the story of that sad anniversary, in miniature.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
ARREST TRUMP WHILE WE STILL CAN A BLOCK (1:48) SPECIAL COMMENT: After the Rubber Stamp Judge he appointed has fabricated law to protect him from justice, Trump has again demanded that "they" overthrow the duly-elected government of the United States - 20 MONTHS TO THE DAY SINCE JANUARY 6TH (3:06) Arrest him NOW while we still can and before he sells the secrets he stole (4:39) Since we know he does not care if the next coup is violent or not, we must stop him NOW (6:05) "Judge" Cannon listened to Trump's "swirling allegation of bias" and used them as an excuse to issue a lawless ruling (8:55) We must act as if we had been invaded by a foreign nation with allies inside this country (9:05) There are six steps that can be taken: including impeaching Cannon, declaring the Federalist Society factory of treason as what it is: a Terrorist organization, search for more stolen documents at Bedminster and Trump Tower, double the number of 1/6 Committee hearings, have President Biden again give his Philadelphia speech (only this time with the gloves off) and ARREST. TRUMP. NOW. WHILE. WE. STILL. CAN. B BLOCK (19:36) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Rufio (21:02) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Trump's rally proves everything Biden said was true, and then some, plus the British have made a lookalike for Evil Tweety Bird their new Prime Minister (24:13) IN SPORTS: Nadal loses, Seal is there (under the name Seal Seal), Judge is poised to break Maris's record, the Oakland couple is sought, and Final Jeopardy is a sports question (28:45) WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Brianna Kellar, Jonathan Truly and Kristina "F it, I'll kill us all" Karamo vie for the honors. C BLOCK (33:30) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: First the Republicans ran a 9/11 Snuff Film unannounced - on MSNBC - and I apologized to our viewers. Then the Republicans told Tom Brokaw: if you don't get Olbermann fired, McCain won't show up to the Presidential Debate YOU are moderating. It all goes down hill from there, and the end result was: I got $22,000,000. Thanks Tom! Oh and ARREST. TRUMP. NOW. WHILE. WE. STILL. CAN. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Chris Licht and John Malone are attempting to take CNN in a new direction. We're not sure if Chris Licht and John Malone anticipated the level of backlash they'd receive by changing directions for CNN. The hashtag boycott CNN was trending on Twitter last Friday...when John Harwood announced he was "leaving" the network. We reveal and react to some of the woke calls to refuse to watch CNN. We discuss the recent on-air changes at CNN...from Brian Stelter to John Harwood. We explain that CNN is struggling to create an identity...and the network isn't drawing ratings because they're not appealing to either side.

In today's episode, I have to open with more revelations from the head of the Texas State Police, Steven C. McCraw. One of the teachers who died was still alive after being shot. She called her husband to tell him that very thing and when he tried to advance, he was stopped by other officers, his weapon confiscated, and escorted from the scene. She was still alive, as were many children, and they chose to stand-down. Additionally, it seems no one ever checked the door to see if it was locked and based on video, it seems it never was. There was no reason not to enter the room and neutralize the shooter and begin immediate triage to “prevent further loss of life.” We then talk more about the staffers Stephen Colbert sent into the Capitol, to basically, trespass, disrupt Congress and deface Federal property. But, in a two-tiered system, because they are Democrats and are only following the orders of a righteous and virtuous liberal, their crimes are not really anything worth pursuing. Now, those exact same charges have kept other Americans imprisoned for over a year, but we know the difference, right? They are deplorable. They are rubes. They are lower beings who have nothing but anger and viciousness in their heart. So, they must be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. Onto the cost of gasoline at the pump. President Joe Biden has decided to ask Congress to implement a 90 day moratorium on the collection of federal gas tax, which amounts to about $.18/gallon. CNN's John Harwood had to admit it was basically a gimmick, putting a bandage over the sore, without really treating it. Even President Barack Obama, in 2008, when running for office, said a gas tax holiday was a gimmick, saying it was not really tackling the problems the need to be tackled. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made a bad slip of the tongue when trying to address the price at the pump, saying the President was doing all he could to “elevate” the price. Oops! The Chevron CEO put out a public statement, very similar to the one ExxonMobil did last weeks, saying the Administration needed to have more consistency in it's policies for drilling, leasing and the infrastructure necessary to get the oil to the refineries. What did the President say to that? He made a smarmy quip, saying he didn't know they'd get their feelings hurt that quickly. Finally, I close with an insightful poll conducted by Rassmussen. They wanted to determine what the top issues are in this country as we head to the midterms. The interesting twist to this poll was they divided it into two distinct groups: voters vs. Legacy media. They wanted to see if journalists have their fingers on the pulse of the people. Not surprising, they could not be more off base if they lived on the moon. Not a single issue voters feel are the top issues are reflected in what the Legacy media thinks is important. In order, voters list rising gasoline prices, inflation, the economy, violent crime, election integrity, school issues, election cheating and illegal immigration as the top most concerning issues we face. However, according to the press, their top issues, in order, are climate change, abortion rights, Capitol riot investigation, Covid-19, LGBTQ+ issues and Ukraine. This is why I constantly remind you not to trust the mainstream media and why I call them nothing more than the propaganda wing of the Democrat party. That one poll speaks volumes! Highlights: “What kind of nation sends $40 billion to supposedly protect the most corrupt country in Europe but doesn't spend a dime on protecting our own kids? What kind of nation does that?” “These horrors happen because we are sick and no one exemplifies that sickness more than Democrats.”“I think you can see the pattern here. For Democrats, everything wrong in this nation is always someone else's fault. It's always you. It's not them; it's NEVER them. It's always you. You're the problem or Republicans are the problem, or pro-lifers, or racism, but never them.”“The left has become so cognitively incoherent, that it's becoming increasingly obvious to the vast majority of the population that they are frankly, for lack of a better term, sick. It's being widely recognized that Democrats have mutually exclusive talking points for every mass shooting.”“The sickening truth is that the Democratic Party consistently exploits the horrors of events like this for their political expedience. [00:30] A Zero-COVID Policy (13 minutes)The Communist Chinese Party is currently enforcing a zero-COVID lockdown policy in Shanghai and other Chinese cities. Citizens are not permitted to leave their homes on any grounds except to get a coronavirus test. These strict lockdown measures are destroying businesses, creating food shortages, and causing starvation and even suicide. As a result, protests are erupting across the city. [13:25] Biden Can't Help America? (5 minutes)CNN columnist John Harwood wrote that Joe Biden is confronting a host of problems “he can't do much to solve,” referring to the runaway inflation, the southern border crisis, skyrocketing crime rates and much more. This is the new talking point on the Communist left: Problems are worsening, but the president of the United States cannot be expected to solve them. [18:15] Frank James Memory-Holed (6 minutes)Less than a week after black nationalist Frank James shot 10 people on a Brooklyn subway train, a simple Google search shows that news of this particular mass shooting has all but disappeared. As PJ Media noted, “When a story doesn't fit the establishment media narrative, it tends to disappear quickly.” [24:05] No More Zuckerberg Donations? (8 minutes)When Donald Trump was running for reelection in 2020, Meta Platform CEO Mark Zuckerberg donated hundreds of millions of dollars to support Joe Biden's campaign. But for the midterm elections this November, Zuckerberg isn't donating anything. Why the abrupt change? [31:55] Bible Study: Christ Our Passover (23 minutes)In this segment, we begin our study of the meaning of Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread.
In today's episode, we cover several subjects since we last met. The first is our continued discussion over Elon Musk trying to buy Twitter. In a move late Friday, the board of Twitter decided to enact the “poison pill” strategy to prevent the hostile takeover. Basically, they want to either flood the market with stock or offer existing shareholders, not including Elon Musk, an option to buy stocks at a deeply discounted rate. This will devalue the shares and financially hurt the company, pushing to make the stock worthless, hence the term, poison pill. This strategy is meant to drive away the person or entity vying for a takeover. The huge risk comes in two after effects. First, Elon Musk could choose to sell all of his shares, making the stock price fall even further, perhaps tanking the company. Second, existing shareholders can sue Twitter and its board for failing to follow through on their fiduciary duty to protect the shareholders and the valuation of the company. Elon Musk has put Twitter between a rock and a hard place. Why? Because the company is terrified of allowing freedom of speech on it's platform. And, quite likely, even more terrified of having their secrets found out when Musk takes them private and exposes them for what they've been doing. Following the Twitter discussion, I address a piece written by CNN's John Harwood, where he tries to explain Biden does not have the power to help with the inflation, the crisis at the border, issues with rampant crime or just about anything else challenging our nation. He's just the president of the United States of America, right? Well, I give John a lot of suggestions on how our chief executive can have an impact in each of those areas. Next, John Durham, the independent counsel investigating the Russian collusion hoax dropped another bomb in court filings. The latest showed both the FBI and the CIA looked at the supposed data showing collusion between Donald Trump and a Russian bank and determined what they has been given was “not technically plausible” and was “user created.” This is another huge blow to the credibility of both the FBI and the CIA because they knew this in 2017 and allowed the investigation and following impeachment to occur as though the documents were true. Finally, Biden's Covid adviser, Ashish Jha was on This Week on ABC and said Covid was still a problem and we are not going to be rid of it anytime soon. To me, hearing this and reading the tea leaves, Democrats are setting the stage for the 2020 Election 2.0. They will push hard for mail-in and drop off voting to keep people from gathering at the polls. They need to recreate the same scenario where ballot harvesting and bypassing voter ID is paramount for them to avoid the oncoming red wave. We all need to be aware of this plan and do all we can to get out and vote and resist their attempts to create ways to stuff the ballot boxes in their favor. Top CNN reporter with down syndrome John Harwood highlights why Democrats are going to lose in the next several elections in what can only be described as a journalistic wet fart. In an article he published over the weekend Mr. Harwood seeks to blame Trump for the Russia/Ukraine war because…. Trump held a beauty pageant in Moscow back in 2013. As the left scrambles to blame everyone and everything (other than themselves) for their irredeemable policies and intellectual fallacies they reveal more and more that they are individuals incapable of understanding that their actions have extremely negative consequences on literally everyone other than them. Additionally George Takei has come under fire for suggesting Americans should be prepared to sacrifice a little in order to support Ukraine. But are those criticisms just? Hey, Counties! How's that isolation going? We hope you're healthy and safe. Reach out and tell us what's up!As always, each episode of Counter Programming will focus on a "counter" of some sort. Today, we learn about step counters, also known as pedometers.Thank you to Jerome Silberman (David) for lending your voice for the intro section of the episode! You can do the same. Record a voice note saying, "Hi, i'm (your name), and you're listening to Counter Programming with Shira & Arielle." Then send it to us!You can reach us by email to tell us how YOU feel about granite - counterprogrammingshiraarielle@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Instagram @counterprogrammingpod.In this episode, we share what we're up to during isolation. Arielle started listening to the Harry Potter series via Audible and is confused by the line between the Muggle and the Wizarding world. Yes, she's 20 years late. Shira got an air fryer for her birthday and has been experimenting with frying all sorts of things, including bagels!Last week, Shira and Arielle decided they'd compete: who could get more steps via their step counters in one week. The results: Shira - 56,626 steps and Arielle - 97,431. And we had a Countie submit her steps: Zari - 96,723. WOW. Close game! There's some debate over who created the first pedometer:First, Leonardo da Vinci, who envisioned a mechanical pedometer as a device with military applications.Jean Fernel, a French craftsman, may have invented the first pedometer in 1525. His invention was in the shape of a watch and had 4 dials. A mechanical pedometer obtained from France was introduced in the US by Thomas Jefferson.Robert Hooke, an English scientist, is also given credit for inventing the pedometer in 1674. His was used by map makers. In 1777 Abraham-Louis Perrelet of Switzerland created the first pedometer/wind-watch, measuring the steps and distance while walking; it was based on a 1770 mechanism of his to power a self-winding watch. However, the first person to officially receive a patent was English watchman, John Harwood, in 1924 by the Swiss and he exhibited the world's first self-winding watch at the 1926 Basle Trade Fair. Our history with pedometers: - Arielle got one at a bar mitzvah in 2002. Loved. - Shira's summer camp (2013) gave out pedometers inspired by Michelle Obama. - We became obsessed with Fitbits/Jawbones when we moved to Jackson because we felt lazy being stuck inside all day.SourceCome back next week as we explore another "counter"-related entity. Thanks for tuning in! Leave us a review on Apple or a comment on Castbox.Tweet at us. Here's Shira. Here's Arielle.Buzzsprout, y'all, the best podcast host in the game. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is one of the top-tier Democratic candidates for president, near the head of the pack, along with former Vice President Joe Biden, fellow progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders and upstart Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Warren saw some of her momentum stall in national and state polls after she rolled out her proposal to pay for “Medicare for All” in early November and a subsequent plan detailing how she would transition the American health care system to a single-payer model. She also got into high-profile, public battles with billionaires such as Leon Cooperman and Lloyd Blankfein. With the Iowa caucuses coming in early February, the Democratic presidential candidates, particularly those at the top of the field, are scrambling for support among the party’s rank and file. Over the weekend, Warren sat down with CNBC’s John Harwood at the Erickson Community Center in Clinton, Iowa, to discuss the state of her campaign, her vision for remaking American capitalism and what she thinks of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. Former Vice President Joe Biden, who was on the campaign trail in Iowa last week, sat down with CNBC’s John Harwood to discuss a range of topics, including trade, health care, taxes and President Donald Trump’s standing among world leaders. Biden has lagged behind Democratic presidential rivals Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders in recent polls of voters in Iowa, which will hold the first-in-the-nation nominating contest in February. He has consistently led the field in national polling averages. What follows is a lightly edited interview from a pub in rural New Hampton, Iowa. Learn more about your ad choices. Countries Skylar - United States - The United States was making very dramatic changes in the 1920’s. For the first time in forever people were actually living in bigger Cities rather than living on farms in the middle of nowhere. The united states worth doubled. A lot of people were kind of confused at first on what was happening, but it ended up being a pretty cool time for the united states. Gabe - Russia - in the early 1920s russia had a civil war which put the bolshevik party into leadership and they made the chaka which then changed names a couple times and turned into the KGB and then soon the bolshevik was renamed to the russian communist party and right after the USSR was created Ella - In the soviet union in 1920 The Soviet Union was formed and Joseph Stalin became the commander in 1922. Also in the 20s, 15 republics in Asia were united. That’s about all. Hunter- Europe- during this time in Europe it was known as the “Golden Twenties” reason being was because of the rapid growth of the European economy due to WW1 and the fact that the Germans had lot of money so repay the rest of the world. Ben - The League of Legends was a group of countries formed after WW1 in order to keep the peace between nations for as long as possible. The League tried to upkeep peace but despite the sheer amount of countries dedicated to the cause, they couldn’t get the bigger countries like the U.S. and Russia to recognize their authority. America and Russia then continued doing what they wanted cause the League of Nations thought if they tried to stop something that was happening, they would get ignored because they weren’t well known, or even worse, get attacked by the nations they were trying to stop. Ultimately though, WW2 complicated things and thats why they ended up disbanding. They might’ve been able to accomplish more if the war didn’t happen. Audrey - In the 1920s Germany was dealing with the consequences of ww1. The Treaty of Versailles required Germany to pay 132 gold marks (US $33 billion) in reparations to cover the damage caused in the war. Even though the war had been over since 1918 there was still a threat of war so another thing in the Treaty of Versailles was the disarmament of the German army. Germany also lost many important portions of its territory to Belgium, France, Poland and Czechoslovakia. 7.. Politics Skylar - Women’s Suffrage - the women’s suffrage was basically women fighting for the right to vote. This wasn’t all they wanted though. Women literally just wanted to be treated the same as men, and have the same rights that they have, which I think is completely fair. These women worked so very hard to get the rights that we, women have today. Gabe - in the 20s there were 3 republican presidents elected consecutively Starting with Harding who died after 3 years of presidency in 1923 he was one of the most popular presidents all the way up until after his death where the teapot dome scandal was revealed where the interior secretary albert fall leased naval oil reserves. Ella - In 1920 on Wall Street, one of the busiest streets, there was a huge explosive, being carried in a horse drawn carriage. 38 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured. At the time it was called the worst terror attack to ever occur in America History. Hunter- during this time sadly there was a lot of political issues…. Causing the rise of major political movements like communism and fascism, and which now adays we are trying to fight both of those movement Ben - “Silent Cal” Coolidge was elected on August 3rd, 1923, sworn into office by his own father following the sudden death of the former president in the middle of the night, forcing them to use a lamp to conduct the oath. Coolidge’s presidency was somewhat dedicated to correcting the former president, Warden Harding’s corruption which rooted itself into the government through companies like the Harding administration. Music/The arts Skylar - Jazz music was known as the first contribution to music. Jazz music was known as “a combination of nervousness, lawlessness, primitive and savage animalism and lasciviousness.” It was a pretty chill type of music, in my opinion. Jazz music was kind of controversial topic, sometimes it was known as a “race record”. Gabe - Along with the jazz broadways (woo woo!) prime years were in 1920s they actually had 50 musicals opening in one season people were paying $3.50 a seat crazy and the art people started digging that surrealist look i find them kinda creepy but hey its that was it back then Ella - Surrealism and Art Deco were two art movements in the 1920s. Surrealism was an art style with a more deep, weird, bizarre and “dreamlike” vibe. A lot of it was based on being unconscious. Art Deco was a style or architecture made with modern and geometric design. Hunter- another type of art during this time was the creation of short films!!! Like Mickey Mouse in……. Steamboat Willie by Walt Disney in 1928 which lead to what we know now as Disney Movies, Disney Pixar, and Walt Disney Pictures. Ben - Photography started being accepted as a valid form of art in the 20’s and new photographers paved the way for many styles that we might see modern photography. As well as more photojournalism in the culture, it also strengthened the power of some movements now that they could be documented more accurately and empathetically. Audrey - The prohibition of alcohol in 1920 led to an underground market of alcohol and the creation of places like speakeasies. They started small but as the Roaring Twenties came to its prime Speakeasies expanded to clubs that featured musicians and dancers. Even though they were illegal speakeasies were very popular. There were other places to go like private clubs, dance clubs, and jazz clubs. People would go to clubs to listen to new music and, since dancing was a huge part of the culture, they would dance the latest dances like the Charlston. 7. Culture Skylar - I’m going to talk about flappers. Flappers were women who were basically outlaws, they didn’t go by the rules for society. They did what they wanted. Usually these women would cut their hair short, either wore dresses or skirts, wore lots of makeup, and really flaunted what they had. They actually drove cars, which a lot of women didn’t do, especially in the 20’s. Gabe - like skylar said this was about the time we went from you cant even see girls ankles you creep to little bit less dressy clothing all this fashion actually came from france they were the first to start dressing differently and then that just carried over to europe and america Ella - cars, radios and other products were being produced faster and at a better price so there were available to almost everyone. This was becoming known as the “machine era”. Also even more Americans were moving from the country to the city. Hunter- another part of this time that i personally like…. Was the first Sports car race on May 26th, 1923. Aka the 24 hours of Le Mans. originally it was supposed to be a three year race in order to declare someone the champion. Little more context was that it was an annual race and every three races one winner would be declared. Ben - As a culture of change arises in America’s roaring twenties, it made a lot more items commonplace, such as the car, or even things like the refrigerator. Much of this culture influenced how America now works today, and the baseline car only cost $260 ($3,300 today) causing more auto-mobile business to flourish. Things like gas stations and motels made travel easier, providing a fun economy as a sort of calm before the storm situation preceding the market crash. Audrey - After the prohibition there was the rise of a culture of criminal celebrities. Bootleggers and gangster bosses would dominate entire cities with their illegal booze, gambling and other things. 7. Technology Skylar - cinema - the 1920’s were the big BOOM for hollywood films. Tons of new movies were being put out. In the early 20’s they were just silent films, but by 1927 they were finally putting sound in most every movie. Southern California was the most popular place for film production. Gabe - electric was getting big the assembly line was one of the big push forwards in technology it allowed us to increase the time stuff was finished and I believe it was used to make the first cars Ella - Radios!!!!!! Radios made stuff cool. They were said to have “knitted the nation together,” They broadcast everything, news, music, politics and even comedy. Radios also helped people advertise. Hunter- The Automatic Watch was an amazing invention that was created by John Harwood, it was the first self-winding watch mechanism. Which lead to what we now know as the wrist watch something that surprisingly is going away due to smart watches. -_- NO Ben - The telephone is getting normalized and the inventors are trying to figure out how to design it. The “candlestick telephone” was the first with a bell shaped speaker to hold up to the ear and a microphone attached to a pole to speak into. By 1927, the Model 102 had reached America after already being popular in Europe. It has a more recognisable curved two-in-one phone that would stay the same over the next few decades, although the base of the machine was constantly changing. 7. Inventions/new things/etc. Skylar - Medicine - Alexander Flemming was a scottish physician who was the creator of penicillin, which was a substance that could kill different types of bacteria. A lot of people ignored him at first, but people finally opened their eyes and seen what a wonderful thing it was. Gabe - let me just name a few of the inventions that came out in 20s like Washing Machine, Radio, Vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, electric Dishwasher, Sunglasses i use all of these things Ella - In 1924, Gustaf Sahlin a sweedish inventor introduced america to a vacuum cleaner, specifically the Electrolux tank vacuum cleaner. The dirt removing efficiency was improved and brooms were forgotten. jK they still had brooms. Hunter- One invention that made a major contribution was the Ford Model T. One reason is because of the fact that the Ford Model T was made specifically for the middle class to allow transportation for a more affordable price Ben - The traffic light was invented after a police officer coming from detroit witnessed multiple car crashes on a day to day basis, his name was William Potts and he created it based off of railroad signals. He then sold it for a whopping $40,000 dollars, which might not sound like much for such an invention but inflation calculates that it would be over $500,000 dollars today. Audrey - The first drive-in restaurant was opened in 1921. It started with a chain of restaurants in texas called the Pig Stand. The first one was on a highway between Dallas and Fort Worth. People would drive up to the restaurant, stay in their car and be greeted by a carhop and they would serve the people burger and fries on a tray that clipped onto the cars window. Later this turned into the drive thru.

This week the gang talks about President Trump’s trade policies and why trade wars can be bad and hard to win. At age 39, John Legend has carved a major role in American culture. He has found success as a singer, songwriter and actor with hits like “Ordinary People” and “All of Me” and in movies such as Selma and LaLa land. He is one of just 15 entertainers to win individual Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards. Born John Stephens into a blue-collar family in Springfield, Ohio, Legend studied English at the University of Pennsylvania and worked for a global business consulting firm. While building his music career since then, Legend has become unusually informed about, and active in, American politics. He sat down with editor-at-large John Harwood during a political swing to promote Stacey Abrams, the African-American woman running for governor of Georgia, and the Florida ballot initiative Amendment Four to restore voting rights for felons who’ve completed their sentences. Over drinks at The Abbey, an Orlando entertainment venue, they discussed criminal justice reform, Democratic presidential politics and the Twitter fights he and his wife Chrissy Teigen have waged with President Trump. Darrell Castle talks about the possibility that the forces that divide America have reached the point of irreconcilable differences and we are slipping into moral darkness. Transcript / Notes SLIPPING INTO MORAL DARKNESS Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. Today is Friday, May 25, 2018, and on today's Report I will be talking about a gang, or army if you prefer, of about 50,000 members now thought to be operating out of 42 U.S. states. ,The army is known as MS-13 and its chief and most profitable “commodity” is teenage girls. ,Trafficking teenage girls is apparently overhead free except for the drugs and alcohol, which are also trafficked but used primarily to keep the girls under control. The motto of MS-13 is “Kill. Rape. Control.” They specialize in bloody machete attacks and hacking their victims into pieces. They also engage in kidnappings and home invasions but murder by ripping apart bodies is their stock and trade. With such a motto as “Kill, Rape, Control”, why would they be given any consideration or respect, or even membership in the human race? Unfortunately there are those here in the US who do speak well of them, or at least refuse criticism. That seems to be not because this gang is worthy but because the President of the U.S. is very critical of them. This army has finally been recognized by U.S. media and brought to the front pages, not because media types are outraged because MS-13 has been running amok in the U.S. kidnapping and chopping up kids, but because President Trump, in a meeting with California immigration people, referred to them as “animals.” We wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of any members of the most vicious gangs on earth would we? “However repugnant their actions, MS-13 gang members are human beings,” said the tweet of John Harwood of the New York Times. What President Trump actually said was “You wouldn't believe how bad these people are. These aren't people, these are animals, and we're taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that's never happened before.” It's hard to see how any sane, rational person could have a problem with taking them out of the country so the “animals” remark must be the controversial part. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), called his comments a new low claiming that he was referring to immigrants in general. President Trump basically made fun of her in a later speech saying that she “came out in favor of MS-13 after the media claimed his description of the gang as animals was racist”. So that's the point of our discussion today; when is it okay to call a group of violent, murderous thugs animals? Is it more important to protect the sensibilities of MS-13 members than it is to warn the nation of their growing numbers and willingness to commit vicious murders to protect their business of kidnapping and enslaving young girls? This is a fascinating controversy because it is so vitally important, and because it calls into question whether or not the two sides of America can ever be reconciled. The chasm that separates us is indeed deep and growing. Perhaps we have reached the point of irreconcilable differences as the divorce lawyers call it. Let's look at a few more comments from the two sides: from President Trump, “She wants them to be treated with respect, as do other Democrats. That's not going to be happening. We're not going to release violent criminals into our country.” Nancy Pelosi: “These aren't people, these are animals,” she said, quoting the president, and then continuing, “You have to wonder, does he not believe in the spark of divinity-the dignity and worth of every person? These are not people; these are animals, the president of the United States.” She continues, “Every day that you think that you've seen it all, along comes another manifestation of why their policies are so inhumane and why we have to continue the debate,” finally adding,

John Harwood talks with Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, a Democrat suddenly back in the national spotlight as he helps lead the Senate’s Trump-Russia investigation. Once considered a presidential contender, Warner could be back in the mix for his party’s 2020 nomination. They discuss his belief that the notorious “dossier” hasn’t yet been disproven, that Trump campaign contacts with Russia turned out to be far more numerous than expected, and that firing Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller would provoke a constitutional crisis and political disaster for the president. He condemned GOP tax proposals as the worst legislation he’s ever seen, and talks of new proposals for a 21st century economy that could represent a White House platform. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Produced by: Mary Catherine Wellons & Pat Anastasi Edited by: Shari Rosen & Geoff Dills Learn more about your ad choices. From 2011: CNBC's John Harwood is the kind of guy you want to turn to in a developing crisis,. He gives you straight talk and can do so on whatever subject is put in front of him. I knew John mostly in passing – you know, I’d walk by his desk and say, “Hi, John” and he’d say, “I’m sorry, who are you?” – back when he was a highly respected reporter at the St. Petersburg Times and I was the kid they’d call to fill in when the grizzled veteran covering Indian Shores was hospitalized for ter
In today's episode, we take a look at a recent claim being made by Sen. Al Franken and others that Attorney General Jeff Sessions perjured himself during his confirmation hearings. First, we begin with an examination of some legal issues in the news related to the Trump administration. What does it mean that the ABA rated Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch "well qualified," and does that mean Andrew is rethinking his opinions to the contrary in Episode 40 and Episode 49? (No.) We also delve into a discussion of the recent (non-)story regarding the release of Donald Trump's 2005 form 1040, as well as the recent decisions by U.S. District Courts in Hawaii and Maryland to issue temporary restraining orders blocking Trump's Revised Executive Order ("Muslim Ban"). In the main segment, we break down exactly what Sessions said and whether it meets the technical requirements for perjury. Next, we answer a question from patron Anthoni Fortier, who asks us what "cert" is and why Andrew keeps saying it. Finally, we end with the answer to Thomas Takes the Bar Exam question #15 about eyewitness identification. Remember that TTTBE issues a new question every Friday, followed by the answer on next Tuesday's show. Don't forget to play along by following our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and/or our Facebook Page and quoting the Tweet or Facebook Post that announces this episode along with your guess and reason(s)! If you missed it, you'll want to check out OA Episode #43, in which we first discussed the 9th Circuit's Opinion that we revisit in this episode. This is the full text of President Trump's revised Executive Order ("Muslim Ban"). And this is the decision in Church of Babalu Aye v. City of Hialeah, 508 U.S. 520 (1993), which Andrew continues to think is the touchstone for whether Trump's Revised EO violates the First Amendment. Here is the full text of 18 U.S.C. § 1001, the federal perjury statute. This is a timeline maintained by the Washington Post of Sessions's relevant conduct. This is the tweet from John Harwood confirming that Russian officials did discuss the election with Jeff Sessions. Those who tuned into the GOP debate this week hoping for a substantive discussion of the issues instead got a sickening display of media corruption and liberal hackery. The CNBC moderators took every opportunity to create arguments, portray candidates as unqualified, and pretend that Democrats have not been driving the country off a cliff for the last eight years. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio stood out when they challenged the moderators and exposed their shameless partisanship. Why is the GOP still allowing their enemies to moderate their debates? We discuss why this may be the end of GOP debates as they have previously been conducted.
