Hello and welcome to a special bonus episode of YXE underground. I first met Tammy Forrester four years ago when we did an episode focusing on the work being done at the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon. Tammy is the CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities in Saskatchewan and leads a wonderful team that provides a safe, secure and welcoming environment for families whose children are undergoing medical challenges. I would highly recommend you listen to our Season Three episode if you would like to learn more about the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon. The Saskatoon House is filling a gap in the health care system and Tammy is hopeful new Ronald McDonald Houses in Regina and Prince Albert will do the same. For the past few years, Tammy and her team have been fundraising to build these new homes and she gives listeners an update in the episode. Tammy also shares why having employees and volunteers pulling in the same direction is vital for an organization to achieve success. “My name is Jessica Fisher and I am a cisgender, queer woman who is both Metis and a settler.” That is how Jessica Fisher introduces herself to elementary and high school students in Saskatoon and around the province. Fisher works with OUTSaskatoon, bringing gender and sexual diversity education to students, teachers and administrators. She does this by explaining the building blocks of identity, what terms like bisexual and transsexual mean, and highlighting the negative impacts of homophobia. “The purpose of my presentation is to help folks understand that their language and their actions have consequences. That can be positive, where people feel comfortable to say and be who they are, or they can be negative consequences -- that is, when people are afraid to exist in the world as they are.” I feel very lucky to have met Jessica. She taught me a lot during our conversation and I know you will connect with her engaging and caring nature. Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast, give it a rating, and feel free to share with all your friends! Cheers... Eric

Host Eric Anderson sits down with Sarah at her office to learn more about the work she does with children and why it's so crucial for so many Saskatoon families. Jacqueline and Eric meet over coffee and discuss why Oskayak High School is such a meaningful place for Jacqueline to teach. Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming (SCYAP) offers a unique employment experience known as URBAN CANVAS. After an hiatus period, Urban Canvas is back with massive support from the city of Saskatoon and the province of Saskatchewan. At-risk youth learn the vital skills to propel them forward in life using art and culture as a tool. Kevin Power is joined by past participants who are now instructors at SCYAP, as well as current participants. Together they share the personal impact this program has on their lives. At the end of the podcast you'll hear part of a speech given by SCYAP's executive director Darrell Lechman (heard last season in Episode 30). Darrell spoke at the opening exhibit and media launch of Urban Canvas held at the SCYAP gallery on November 20, 2015. An impressive crowd including Saskatoon Mayor Don Aitchison, members of the Saskatoon Fire Department, Police Department, and many more. ============================================== SaskScapes is a podcast featuring the stories of arts, culture and heritage in Saskatchewan.
