In this episode of Encountering You, Laura Williams explores how a well-known relationship tool — Love Languages— can unintentionally create disconnection when used as a rule instead of a reflection of real love. Through the lens of Healing Our Core Issues, Laura unpacks how our love languages often reveal unmet childhood needs and how genuine connection grows through attunement, not performance. You'll learn: Why the Love Languages framework lacks scientific grounding. How love languages can become transactional or controlling. Why attunement, not technique, builds secure attachment. How to shift from “If you loved me…” to “When you do this, I feel close to you.”

Politics and faith weren't meant to be weapons, but windows into the heart. When conversations turn political, it's easy to choose sides and lose sight of each other. In this week's episode, Laura will talk about what happens when belonging gets tangled with belief—and how to hold conviction without losing compassion. Maybe the real question isn't whose side are you on, but how can we stay connected in the middle? What if Jesus didn't come to take sides—but to take us home to love?

In this episode, Laura continues her conversation on forgiveness — exploring what it looks like when healing unfolds slowly, safely, and in relationship. Using the story of Peter's denial of Jesus, she shows that forgiveness isn't about rushing past pain but creating space for honesty, safety, and repair. You'll hear why forgiveness before safety feels like self-betrayal, how healthy shame can open the door to empathy, and why boundaries are a vital part of restoration. Highlights: Jesus and Peter as a model for slow, relational forgiveness The five stages of healing: Safety → Acknowledgment → Grief → Understanding → Release Forgiveness vs. reconciliation — and why boundaries protect both
Sometimes forgiveness comes too soon — not because we're unfaithful, but because we're afraid. Many of you have been told that good Christians forgive quickly, but what if forgiveness that comes too soon isn't holy…it's harm? Your body knows when it's not ready. Betrayal doesn't just break trust — it breaks regulation. In this episode, Laura will explore what betrayal does to the nervous system and why true forgiveness starts with safety, honesty, and time — not speed.

At the core, this podcast is rooted in storytelling. Typically, we would walk through the story of a guest and encounter the Lord and His redemptive work through the lens of that particular story. But on this episode, we change that up a bit. Today, I want to invite you to intentionally step into your own story armed with the knowledge you obtain as you listen to this episode. Let me explain what I mean… Our guest today is Laura Williams. Laura is the co-owner of Be Found Counseling in Brentwood, TN just south of Nashville and the host of the Encountering You Podcast which tackles touch issues in mental health and how they relate to your faith journey. Laura specializes in trauma therapy and an incredibly powerful concept called re-parenting. You might be thinking - I really don't have trauma in my life - I've not had anything major happen to me. Right off the bat, Laura dives into what trauma really is and I assure you, what she says will resonate with you. A friend of mine says, “God Fathers best by taking us back through our story. You can not write a new story until you deal with the one you've been given”. So, the hope today is that we are able to encourage each of you step into your own story from a high level perspective and start or maybe continue the process of story work. Our prayer is that as you listen today you would feel seen in ways you haven't before or maybe receive clarification on a space within your emotions or thoughts that has been confusing or possibly even alerted to places in your life that need to be attended to currently. I'm joined by David Bell (who experienced the venue as a fan, reporter, merchman and band manager) and Paul Page (Whipping Boy). Thanks to Laura Williams, Jackie Trulock and all at the Annesley Bridge House.
