November 13 2023 Monday Week 09 / A Study In Galatians God's Promise Never Broken #findoutwhoyouare My Vision My vision is to teach the world Who They Are In Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! To Teach them what the Bible says about them and who they have been made to be in the promises of God's Word. This changed my life years ago and completely transformed me from a person full of doubt, fear and unbelief to a strong confident Christian that knows I can do anything through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. And I'm determined to teach the world what God has taught and commissioned me to teach and that is His Word. That commission takes me to jails and detention centers weekly along with other open doors at many churches and ministries that are wanting to teach these important truths to the world. My podcast goes out 6 days a week to help the people I am ministering to grow in the truths that God has taught me for many years now. This podcast is free to all that want to listen and grow strong in who God has made them to be in Christ Jesus their Lord and Savior. My Prayers For The World Ephesians 1:15-23 NLT 'Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God's people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.' Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT 'When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.' Paul begins by setting forth his credentials as an apostle with a message from God: blessing comes from God on the basis of faith, not law. The law declares men guilty and imprisons them; faith sets men free to enjoy liberty in Christ. But liberty is not license. Freedom in Christ means freedom to produce the fruits of righteousness through a Spirit-led lifestyle. We meet our next guest, Jeff Jucha, at the Labyrinth Studios in downtown Little Rock. We would like to give a big shout-out to Marcus, the owner of the studio, for generously allowing us to use his space for the interview. Jeff is a Little Rock native who grew up with two caring parents, an above-ground pool, two Chevy Corsicas in the driveway, and of course, two golden retrievers. We laughed at this idyllic perception of his life, which in many ways, Jeff had, until the age of 15 when he was involved in a horrific car accident that took the lives of three people, including the person sitting next to him. Jeff was left with a mangled body that took years to recover physically. The physical recovery, the numerous operations, and setbacks, including almost losing his leg to infection, challenged Jeff, maybe even more so than his physical injuries but ultimately forged him mentally. Jeff found himself in the gym business and then in the health business, including coaching gym owners. He has a passion for helping others achieve their goals and live their best life. The Jar takes Jeff through some profound questions around love and relationships that you won't want to miss. His story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and how we can overcome even the most challenging obstacles in life. For more of Jeff, Check out:His TED TALK: https://youtu.be/khcap2Qnak8His instagram: @jrjucha For more of The Jar, visit:Website: https://www.thejar.live/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Disclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. Heyyy, Do tell me that you want me to read this book for you or any other book?
We're often told to “be who we are”. Thing is, there is no instruction manual on how to do that. That's why so many of us end up trying to change things about ourselves that we can't or that we don't need to. Because in our quest to be accepted, we forget that the things that make us different are actually our gifts. This is why the journey to our best self isn't one of changing everything about ourselves, but, rather, a journey of learning how to love everything about ourselves. Of course, that's easier said than done. Which is why I recorded this episode. So, tune in as I share why it's so easy to fall into a trap of trying to change everything about ourselves and how to start loving yourself fully. About The Erica Ballard Show The Erica Ballard Show is a podcast for women ready to wake up to their true power. Through conversation and story, we examine what really has to change to go from where you are to where you want to be. About Erica Ballard Erica is a woman who thought pinstripe suits, a size 4 body, and a corner office were the markings of success. But, after chasing those things, Erica realized that none of that stuff would make her happy (like, really happy). Because, as it turns out, her version of success looked much different than what she was conditioned to believe it should look like. After accepting that truth and honoring her own, Erica now lives a life she loves and is on a mission to help other women do the same through life coaching, women-focused workshops, and social media. Learn more about her at www.iamericaballard.com. Ready to make a difference? Connect with Erica on Instagram and LinkedIn.

To celebrate Vanessa's birthday we are joined by a very special guest: JEWEL! That's right, we caught up with the acclaimed singer, actress and author to discuss the era before Starbucks where coffee shops were places to see live music and maybe even see Jewel demo songs that would go onto be nineties radio staples such as "Who Will Save Your Soul?" and "Foolish Games." We also discuss Jewel's career journey from a living on a remote homestead in Alaska to becoming a household name, Vanessa and Jewel's mutual love of Cyndi Lauper, how Jewel was able to channel her trauma into lasting art and how she came up with her own mental health curriculum by channeling her own "bunny nature." Finally we play a round of BACK TO THE PRESENT where we reminisce about The Body Shop, Dutch Apple Pop-Tarts and other nostalgic things that Jewel is a very good sport about discussing with us. Multiplatinum recording artist Jewel has won many awards and performed at the Super Bowl — but how much do you really know about her? She grew up with no running water, was a homeless teenager in San Diego, and turned all that into music for her album “Pieces of You,” which is one of the bestselling debuts of all time. In this episode, Jewel discusses her anxiety disorder, her past traumas, and what different song lyrics from her vast catalog of music mean to her. She also tells us about her work with the Inspiring Children Foundation, a foundation that has spent the past 18 years empowering children who struggle with financial hardship, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. To learn more -- or read the transcript -- please visit the official episode page here. Guest Bio Jewel went from a girl who grew up with no running water on an Alaskan homestead, to a homeless teenager in San Diego, to an award-winning, multiplatinum recording artist who released one of the bestselling debuts of all time. Throughout her career, Jewel has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and has earned 26 nominations for awards such as the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, VMAs, VH1 Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Country Music Awards, winning eight times. Jewel has been featured on the covers of TIME and Rolling Stone and has performed on “Saturday Night Live,” at the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals, and for the pope and the president of the United States. ABOUT INSPIRING CHILDREN FOUNDATION: For 18 years, Jewel's Inspiring Children Foundation and Never Broken program have been empowering children struggling with financial hardship, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation by giving them the ultimate environment to survive and then thrive. With teenage suicide up by 70% and anxiety and depression doubling, they have been at the forefront of solving this epidemic. The program equips at-risk youth with everything they need to be physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy in a fun and inspirational way, online and in person. A goal is a stepping stone on the way to a higher achievement, not an end point. By reframing our expectations, we can transform our mindset into an incredibly powerful psychological tool. Our guest on this episode is Paul Szyarto who has overcome some heartbreaking personal adversity to become an incredibly successful entrepreneur. Paul speaks with us in detail about the blind spots entrepreneurs experience and why many organizations fail because they don't hire the right people with the right talent. And he reminds us that the most challenging thing to do in times of chaos is to focus on something meaningful, something beyond the current chaos of that current challenge. © 2022 Behavioral Grooves Topics (2:50) Welcome and speed round questions. It is that time of year again where we interview some of the Agatha Award Nominees. Watch Her by Edwin Hill (Kensington)Best Contemporary FictionEdwin Hill is the author of LITTLE COMFORT and THE MISSING ONES. He was born in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and spent most of his childhood obsessing over The Famous Five, Agatha Christie, and somehow finding a way into C.S. Lewis's wardrobe. His parents were fond of taking his sister and him on month-long family camping trips across the U.S. and Canada, and one of his best memories is of finishing a copy of The Seven Dials Mystery while the rest of the family visited Mount Rushmore. Growing up when VHS tapes were new meant that watching Alien, Jaws, The Shining, or Halloween whenever he wanted seemed luxurious, and still does today. Like Hester Thursby, he watched these movies – and others like them – a lot. After attending Wesleyan University and graduating with a B.A. in American Studies, he headed west to San Francisco for the original dotcom boom. Later, he returned to Boston, earned an MFA from Emerson College, and switched gears to work in educational publishing, where he served as the vice president and editorial director for Bedford/St. Martin's, a division of Macmillan Learning, for many years before turning to writing full time. He lives in Roslindale, Massachusetts with his partner Michael and his favorite reviewer, their lab Edith Ann, who likes his first drafts enough to eat them.A Dead Man's Eyes by Lori Duffy Foster (Level Best Books)Best First NovelLori Duffy Foster is a former crime reporter who writes from the hills of Northern Pennsylvania, where she lives with her family. Shelley Klingerman joined Jesse and Jason to discuss the loss of her Detective brother to a senseless ambush, starting Project Never Broken to help those dealing with loss & grief, women's safety issues, and tons more. Shelley also discusses attending citizen training to get a glimpse into the policing world from responding to threats to dealing with individuals with mental health problems. About Shelley: Shelley Klingerman is a successful entrepreneur, author, marketing professional, and documentary film producer. She is a graduate of Indiana State University and the mother of three children who inspired her to make the documentary Terror in American Schools: Are Your Kids Safe? The film outlines threats and vulnerabilities to our schools, and what can be done to increase security for the nation's children. During her research for the film, and from her two decades of working for a large global firm, Klingerman began to understand the need to be vigilant and aware of her surroundings in everyday situations. This sparked a passion to help others learn what they should be aware of when traveling and living their day-to-day lives, and how they can prepare and protect themselves. She compiled her insights — which have been featured in The New York Times — into Vigilance: The Savvy Woman's Guide to Personal Safety, Self-Protection Measures, and Countermeasures (Niche Pressworks, 2019). She received Situational Awareness Specialist certification in 2021 and is currently attending the FBI's Citizen's Academy. This episode brought to you by Faraday Defense and Health To The Rescue. Jewel was broke and homeless, but she still turned down a million dollar check when she was 19 years old. Jewel was broke and millions in debt after selling 30,000,000 albums, and built back from scratch when she was 30. Jewel has switched genres, written music from folk to pop to country to even children's music. She wrote a children's book. I love Jewel. Abused from the ages of 5 to 15. Moved out of the cold barn she was living in at 15 to live on her own. And three years later she was homeless. "I didn't want to be a statistic," she told me she was afraid when she was 15. "I looked around at other girls who were in my circumstances and things went from bad to worse" And yet... she ended up a statistic. She realized this when she was 18, living out of a car, and attempting to stuff a dress down her pants in a store so she could steal it. When I was 18 I feel I was privileged. I had no real worries. I was "suburban lucky". Luck ruined me and made me complacent. I never would have made the good decisions Jewel ended up making. That's why I love her. That's why I'm glad she came on my podcast. I'm sure she's done 100s of interviews to promote her new book, "Never Broken", an excellent book. But I wanted to break her down. I wanted her to laugh. She was so smart and serious. Trust me: I got her to laugh. A) HARD WOOD GROWS SLOWLY Why did a homeless girl who sang for pennies in a cafe turn down a million dollar offer? "Hard wood grows slowly," she said. "I saw that as a kid. The soft trees would break. The hard trees would grow and live forever." She said: I knew I wanted to grow for a long time in this business. I also knew we were still in the grunge era and I was not grunge. If I took a million dollar deal, I read that I would have to pay it back. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to and I would be dropped by the label and that would be the end of my career. In fact, my album didn't do well the first year. But then went on to sell over 10,000,000 copies. They didn't drop me because I was just that girl they paid twelve dollars for. You have to think long-term instead of short-term always. -- She was 19. I do NOT think I would have made that decision. I think I would have made the wrong decisions. How does one take such a long term view at such a young age. I think it was the ten years she had spent developing her skills, singing in bars all over Alaska, preparing for this moment. Confidence is really difficult to develop. I don't know if I have it even now. But I'm going to remember this lesson on the next business decision I have to make. B) REINVENTION IS NON-STOP Jewel has written children's books, gone from folk music to pop to children's to country. She's been a rancher. She's been homeless. I asked her, "You had the benefit of really cultivating your talent from ages 5 to 15. You sang with your dad at gigs every week. "Do you think someone starting from scratch at 50 can do this?" "Absolutely," she said, "Reinvention never ends. It's every day. Pursue what you enjoy and move towards it and there will be opportunities." I look at my own life today. I'm about to finish a children's book. I'm looking into TV. I'm working on a novel. I have other business things. I don't know if any of them will work. But I know if I don't keep trying I will slip back into whatever hole I constantly have to dig myself out of. There are two days to start something new. When you are five years old. And today. C) CREATE ART FOR YOURSELF I said these words: "So when you were talking to Neil Young..." What funny words to say to someone, I thought at the time and told her. Neil Young told her: don't ever write for radio! Meaning: don't write for the masses, write for yourself. I asked her, "isn't there a tension there? Like what if you write for yourself and then nobody likes it? Don't you want to write something that people like?" She said, "We all have...
Site: http://www.audiobooks.com/podcast | Email: podcast@audiobooks.com Welcome back to the Audiobooks.com Podcast! This week we have a very different show for you, but one we'll hope you'll enjoy as a book lover. To start things off, we discuss some of the audiobooks that were recently released and our interest in them, then get into some of the books we've been listening to. The core of our discussion revolves around some controversies occurring right now in the book industry. Many of the decisions that have been made surrounding these incidents bear a significant impact on the creative side to the business of books and audiobooks, and we wanted to take the time to explore some of these issues. Taking a serious look at them, we believe, makes us better consumers and equips us with the knowledge we need to make informed decisions and support those who need to be supported. Exercising our consumer rights can be the loudest weapon we have against the creative types who are being manipulated by the money-driven machine that fuels them. ON THE RADAR Mindy Kaling's newest book, Why Not Me, was released on September 15, 2015. She reads much of the book herself, but also has other voices making appearances on the audiobook production, including Greg Daniels (known for his work on Saturday Night Live and The Office) and B. J. Novak (writer and fellow co-star on The Office). Kaling's first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), which was released in 2011, received mixed responses amongst critics. As her writing style ranges from prose to a more blogging-feel, Mindy herself reads the audiobook, with help from Michael Schur, and brings it to life with a more conversational tone. She covers topics from recounting experiences in Hollywood to childhood memories. Why Not Me is a collection of humorous essays of Mindy's mission to find a balance of fulfillment and joy in life, from love to weight loss. And we hear it is one heck of a chuckler! Also on our radar is a book from singer-songwriter Jewel, entitled Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story. As far as typical celebrity memoirs go, this one is on the longer side. The audiobook is 10 hours and 30 minutes long, but it is read by Jewel herself. We are familiar with Jewel's early albums, such as her debut Pieces of You from 1995, but the singer has been releasing albums almost every year or two throughout the 2000s. This memoir isn't the first publication Jewel has released. She published a book of poetry in 1998 entitled A Night Without Armor, and then an autobiography in 2000 called Chasing Down the Dawn, which chronicled her journey from Alaska to the world's stage. Never Broken seems to be Jewel's second stab at an autobiography, but one that is already being met with great reviews! We're excited to check it out. Putting Up Guards Here at Audiobooks.com, we're all about supporting the creative geniuses behind the books and materials we enjoy. As consumers, we have the poignant power to show publishing companies our opinions through choosing to purchase, or not purchase, a book or audiobook instead of complaining. However, we're neither advocating nor supporting a boycott in these situations we bring up, rather we want to bring to light that when the creative process is mistreated by someone intent on making a sell, we have the opportunity to respond to that in kind. The two controversial situations we examine at length are Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman and the late Steig Larsson's The Girl In the Spider's Web. While some books are currently receiving heat for their accuracy, such as Wednesday Martin's The Primates of Park Avenue, these books are brought to our attention because of the publisher's role in releasing a creative work that the author, arguably, had no say in due to death or mental acuity. What makes matters difficult for fans, we think, is a desire to respect the creative process of an author while still having an insatiable curiosity to discover what the book holds. Fans of the first three novels released by Steig Larsson under the Millennium Series are no doubt anxious to read the rumored 7 books that remain. Following Larsson's death in 2004, the hope of reading any further seemed to be dashed. In that same vein, Harper Lee's 1960 novel To Kill A Mockingbird was an immediate success, winning Lee a Pulitzer. But the reactions by Lee and her family, following the books release, make it difficult to justify reading the book. How much of the book was changed from Lee's original manuscript? Did she have a say in the changes that were made? Is this book really deserving of Lee's name under the authorship? When controversy like this arises, what is your response? Do you find yourself interested to read the final product of a long, legal battle, or do you pass on the newly published work in favor of respect for an author? Or is there an option C? We'd love to hear opinions on this, because we're at a crossroads over what the right course is to take. Coming Up Brian is still making his way through Ready Player One, but we promise that a full review of that audiobook is coming up soon! In the meantime, Addy is still learning Italian, so we may need a translator in an upcoming episode for when she becomes fluent! Show us some love!
