On the Air Tonight is Australia's only free to listen podcast reviewing free to air Television. Each week OTAT shows you why Australian free to air TV is still the purest, cheapest thrill on the market.
There's no easy way to say this, so thank god we can type our words into notes as we sob into our phone. It is with heavy hearts that we call closing time on On The Air Tonight. Episode 66 will be our final episode. In our final episode, we chatted about the unfortunate ending of the show, Jake's house-cooling party, and spent the lion's share dissecting Tom's recent obsession with the Harry Potter universe. From the bottom of our warped hearts, we want to thank you again for being a part of and building our community, it has truly meant the world to us. We will be back bigger and better than ever in the future. Until then, buh-bye xxx
Ep Sixty Fiiiiiive baby. This week Jake probes Tom about his love life. Tune in to hear a man swat away invasive emotional questions in an effort to never discuss his feelings ever. Like a real man. The boys discuss:- The commonwealth is bulletproof to racism.- Veganism is an imperfect practice - Nosy coworkers- Oversharing bosses - Autism is a tough, tough slog- State of Origin predictions (recorded pre-origin)
This week, the boys mourn the demise of the late, great, Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, Place Beyond The Pines) as well as cricket legend Andrew Symonds. As has also become the status-quo, we give a rundown on what's been happening in the past week, including Tom's venture to the Teneriffe festival, our favourite moments we've shared with nightclub seccy's, and we also FINALLY chat about Love On The Spectrum (unfortunately, no longer streaming on Free To Air).Join us this week for a mixed bag of miscellaneous mishaps from two miscreants you've come to know and love…Well, maybe not love, but you clearly tolerate us if you're reading this. And that's all we can really ask for xo
OTAT takes a cosmic shift in concept, for now we're not reviewing free to air television. We're embracing our inner Tony Soprano and just gabba goulin'.Some times life throws a lot of at you, we're always taught to confront adversity head on, but sometimes it's easier to just dodge it, duck it, dip it, dive it and most importantly, dodge it.This week the boys did exactly that. Jake and Tom joined a dodgeball tournament and spent the lion's share of an afternoon pelting Styrofoam balls at victims unaware of the tidal wave of testosterone and rage that the boys' harness. We take ALL sports seriously, especially those that are played socially and for charity. So treat this episode like life, and grab us by the balls.
The boys are back on their bullshit, and like a blocked nose during the bug season, we got a whole bunch of boogie about us. But not just ANY BOOGIE, the we've been decked out with some killer shirts from our friends at @boogiemanvintage. Join us for Ep 62 of OTAT, where we review not a whole lot and had a great time doing it.
OTAT baby.1. Tom went to Cairns2. Tom now collects dust on a polite man's mantle piece3. TAC PAPC reviews4. Cats and the Cradle breakdown5. Instagram Utopia review
This week on OTAT, the boys dive into "Luke Warm Sex" (streaming on ABC iView). Hosted by comedian Luke McGregor, LWS is an Aussie comedy docuseries that takes on the subject of body image and sexuality. Some interesting stuff discussed this week, all surrounded by the nonsensical tangents and random stories that you've come to expect from these two knuckleheads.Come get sexy with us, and listen to episode 60 of On The Air Tonight.
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN.We wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't talk about the highest rating show on free to air television.Say what you will about this toxic, soul-crushing, relationship-ruining nightmare- circus parading as an altruistic social experiment. You can't deny its preeetty FUNNY.No one is safe when we break down the worst and worst of MAFS 2022.BUT NOT BEFORE WE COVER- Blutes Karaoke bar goes even further downhill- Louis CK won a grammy- Going to prison is cancel culture at it's worst LOVE YA SPUDS.
EP 58 – The Oscars featuring KEITH SLIMCOCK (aka goon king) (aka Reece Herrick) KEEP MY WIFE'S NAME OUT YOUR F*****G MOUTH!!! Unless my wife's name is On The Air Tonight, and last time I checked…I don't have a wife. THIS WEEK we have a very special guest. He goes by many names, including Goon King, Keith Slimcock, Pebbles, Quadzilla…but for now, let's just call him Reece. Reece is a longtime Free-To-Air Fighter, and passionate member of the OTAT Community. He's been pushing for the job of ‘Show Producer', but while we wait on HR to put together the relevant tax forms and position description, we invited Rice (another alias) onto the show as an honoured guest. Reece joined the boys to tell anecdotes from his rich tapestry of tales known as the “Goon Chronicles”. From his high school haydays, to share-house shenanigans, Reecey has seen a lot. We also got his expert opinion of the 2022 Academy Awards (streaming on 7 Plus), and he gave his educated analysis on the slap heard around the world. She's a longer ep, but we hope you have as much fun tuning in as we did recording.
The boys are back after (another) week off! This week we dive deep into Tom's recent night terrors, Jacob don's his psychology had to unpack Tommy's traumas. We also watched "Educators" (now streaming on SBS On Demand). Tune in for 97% loveable nonsense and 3% miscellaneous hogwash.
How goods this year been hey….A pandemic looms over us, World War is threatening, a natural disaster is ripping apart the east coast of our nation, and I called a co-worker “Mum”. Things really couldn't get much worse, until we lost an Aussie icon, a cricketing legend, and a cult figure. This episode we pay tribute to the late and great Shane Keith Warne, who many label as the greatest cricketer of all time. We watched “7:30 Special: The Shane Warne Interview” (now streaming on ABC iView), where journalist Leigh Sales sits down with Warney to talk moments in his career, his relationships, the culture of cricket currently, and his regrets in life.We also kept to true OTAT form by deviating from Shane to yarn about 9 Lives Music Festival, which ya boys attended over the weekend to distract themselves from the loss of a giant. So slap on some zinc, grab a VB and a buttered bread roll, and tune in for this week's episode of On The Air Tonight.Vale Warney
OTAT takes on THE longest standing cornerstone of free to air television, The News. With the QLD Floods of 2022, it's been a massive week for all Queenslanders. These Brisbane boys are your eyes and ears on the street. We TASTEFULLY wax poetic about the recent Queensland floods, the current war between Russia and Ukraine and the wettest letter in the English dictionary 'L'.Also Tom has a HUGE scoop, the full story of the survivor who's houseboat was sucked to the bottom of the Brisbane River while he was still on board.
Resident weekly reviewer and long time father of Tom, PAPC makes his long awaited debut on the OTAT mics. No Jake this week, but his replacement does a stellar job.The free to air satellite was down so we opted to chat Hip-Hop instead of TV.Tom gets PAPC's reaction to Eminem and Kanye West. This week Tom and PAPC discuss:The origin of 'Part Australian, Part Chinese'.Disappointing your parent's with lacklustre gifts.PAPC's relationship with Hip Hop.PAPC's reaction to Eminem and Kanye West.Straight jacked this concept from Turning the Tables. Let's call it homage.https://www.youtube.com/c/turningthetables
This week on OTAT, Jacob returns from battling his immune system to demonstrate the early signs of dementia, and Tom has to be a participant in peak nonsense. We chatted Valentine's day, Super Bowl, and everything in between. So if you haven't found a romantic bond for Valentine's this week, no need to worry. Because these two loveable idiots will distract you from not having someone on this poor excuse of a “day of significance”.
This week the boys watch 'Hello Stranger' available on ABC Iview. A show that chats to a handful of strangers on the street then follows one home to tell their story via a 20 minute doco. KURT COLEMAN the GOAT is their first subject. We also recount Tom's tired Thai food tale, and read out mean comments we received from a Triple J Subreddit.
This week we chatted mostly Australian Open (again), our guest Jordan's move down south to Melbourne, and Tom's recent holiday in the same city.We also uncovered a hidden gem of a show “CHAD” (streaming on SBS On Demand). Safe to say there was plenty to ramble about.
The boys celebrate free to air RADIO and TV this week. Triple J's Hottest 100 and Channel 9's Australian Open are the cannon fodder this week.OTAT breaks down:- Triple J presenter media training- Matthew Mcconaughey's wild autobiography- Do the Wiggles deserve an Oscar?- Are tennis crowds the worst they've ever been?- Is Nick Kyrgios the best or worst thing to ever happen to Australian tennis?
Like the cold reality of returning to work after a gluttonous and lazy Christmas break, WE'RE BACK BABY!!!Your favourite boys are back on the ranch to give you the content you may not necessarily want or need, but you gonna get it regardless. So hack in to your neighbours smart home system, boot up and blare the latest episode of On The Air Tonight throughout their house.
The boys put a bow on a MASSIVE year of OTAT. We wrap up Tom's day out at The Gabba, the work Christmas party, and our highlights from this year.No free to air watching this week unfortunately. Thanks so much for all the support this year, we'll be back next year for a big fat 2022.
This week on OTAT, the boys bicker over who the king of the ring is, suplex the conversation on some strange twists and turns, before chokeslamming into the SBS Documentary "The Wrestlers".
This week the boys watched an episode of a documentary series on SBS on demand called 'The Dark Side of the 90s'. We watched episode 2 which highlights Johnny Depp's infamous 'Viper Room' and the tragic death of River Pheonix. Thanks again to Trademutt for housing the boys.
This week the boys watched SBS On Demand's "Dark Side of the 90's" but never got around to actually discussing it. Safe to say Freestyle #2 is under the belt. Rest assured we will return to our regular scheduled free to air reviewing programming soon.
We're back with another episode this week, and this one is a doozy. We go completely off the grid and talk everything except Free To Air content (STOP THE PRESSES).We chat about a recent gig we went to, as well as some of the best and worst music experiences we've had.

This week we have a treat for you pOTATers. Following our review of Australia's Sexiest Tradie last week, we sat down with the brains, brawn, and BDE behind the nation's hottest comedy at the moment: Rick Donald.Rick is a writer, director, actor, and former tradie from Townsville. You may recognise him from appearances on Home and Away, Wentworth, and possibly even that iconic Libra ad as the bloke who sticks his misso's pads all over himself and pretends he's a robot. The man's latest project is writing, directing, and starring in Australia's Sexiest Tradie, a mockumentary comedy that follows Frank (played by Rick), a plumber who becomes a finalist in a local radio station's contest to finding the tastiest piece of meat on the tools.Rick was generous enough to sit down with us two blockheads to talk about his new show, his inspirations, the Free To Air industry, and future projects. We hope you enjoy this chat as much as we did.
The boys are reminded why they sift through tripe like Holy Moly and MAFS every week, it's to find gems like Australia's Sexiest Tradie.IT'S NOT WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE, IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD.This show is We Can Be Heroes meets The UK Office. It's a Mockumentary starring a 33 year old plumber who lives with his parents and wants (wayy too desperately) to win a regional radio competition that crowns Australia's Sexiest Tradie. How do you not watch that?Rick Donald stars, wrote and created the whole show. You're looking at our next Chris Lilley in the making.1. Hang ups from last week2. After taking the week off due to one co-host battling illness (not covid), the other co-host makes up for lost time by teeing off on his recent encounter with his shonky removalist. This DETAILED (arguably self-indulgent) retelling takes up the lions share of the episode, but is probably more engaging than anything on free to air telly this week. Free to air classic “Naked and Afraid” gets it's time in the sun too so don't worry.Naked and Afraid (streaming on 9Now) puts two strangers together in the wilderness with nothing but their birthday suits. They have to survive 21 days through blistering heat, minimal resources, and pretty awkward small talk.
THREE'S COMPANY! The boys get social and welcome their first guest, friend of the show Jordan 'Big Guy' Lynagh. This week the boys travel to Vietnam with celebrity chef and best selling author, the late great Anthony Bourdain. All 12 seasons of his amazing travel show 'Parts Unknown' are available for consumption on SBS on Demand.Join the boys x 3 on an educational, historical journey through the culinary wonderland of Vietnam.HAPPY EATING.
The boys watch SBS on Demand's 'Couples Therapy'.Real life trendy New York City couples sit down with world class therapist Orna Guralnik and try to make sense of this thing we call life and the institution of marriage. It's actually far more gripping than it sounds. Real people's real problems. Would recommend this one big time. This ep goes a bit like this.1. Father's Day2. Tom Swished PAPC3. PAPC leaves review (or cry for help not sure)4. Cops and Criminals have a strange relationship. You've got the criminals who play an elusive ‘hard to get' game, whilst the police seem more desperate for some action than a private school boy at a gym dance. In this week's episode, we don some horrendous British accents, go WAY OFF tangent countless times, and find time to “review”: MANHUNT – Catch Me If You Can (streaming on 7 Plus). Sincere apologies for this xx)As a country that was colonised by convicts, Australia's always had a soft spot for the anti-hero.
