Hey friend! I have a very short and sweet announcement to share about the show. Yes, I am taking a bit of a break from the podcast to work on my own self, to do more in-person reflexology, take care of my daughter and return back to my home care nursing job super super part-time. Trying not to see this as weakness or me running away, but more as a time to strengthen my relationship with my body, with God, with my family, and to discern what this next season looks like for my business. Thank you for all your support and for gathering here every week! It means so much to me. I'd highly encourage you to subscribe to the show, so that if/ when (hoping when!) it's back on, you'll know right away! Blessings, friend! Lauren
We've all been in the situation. We're doing the very things we know do not help us feel better. In fact, they bring on the anxiety again. They make us have that impending doom feeling. We get all the very familiar symptoms back. And we ask ourselves, why? Why am I keeping on doing these habits?! It just doesn't make any sense! In this episode, I talk about the very reason why it does make sense, of why we keep returning to the habits that make us feel like garbage! I'd encourage you to take some time once you've gone through the episode to really reflect on this and ask God to give you clarity on how to work through it. The passages I talk about in this episode are: Colossians 3:3 Romans 7:21-25 Episode #81: 3 Places Where Your Identity Does Not Come From May you be encouraged! Feeling stuck in the spiraling thoughts and debilitating anxiety of PMS or PMDD? Do you feel like you just need a little reset? In this episode, I share a quick 5-minute practice/ strategy that I've been using when it feels like I just need a minute to ground myself again and discern truth from lies. And it can be done in 5 minutes, 10 minutes or 2 minutes... really whatever you have time for. So give it a try next time you're feeling overstimulated, overwhelmed, hypervigilant, or in fight, flight or freeze mode! Happy Monday, friend! Does it feel hard to not base your identity, worth and value on what you're contributing to the world? Do you ever say to God "if you only gave me this, or did that, then my life would be like this"? Does your identity get tossed around every menstrual cycle when you're in the premenstrual phase and wondering how you're going to get through this one? In this episode, I'm sharing three places where our identities do NOT come from. These are some pretty big areas of our lives as women, Christians, moms, women who want to be married or moms. But we need to constantly be reminded every day that our identity does not belong here. Have a listen to the episode! Happy Monday, friend! This week, I have a special guest chatting with me about ADHD, motherhood and menstrual health issues. Yes, all those things packed into this great, big episode! I know you'll be encouraged by this conversation, because I was. I felt so very validated and affirmed in my own wellness journey, and I pray the same for you! Happy listening! Lauren Annie: "Hello, my name is Annie de Villiers, and I am 42-years young and was diagnosed with ADHD in 2018, when I was 35. I am a qualified foundation phase teacher but currently only homeschool my own two children. This year, 2025, I am blessed to be married for 17 years. We live in Pretoria, South Africa and I definitely am one of those people who value the sun in my life. Over the years I have had to learn to not just cope with my ADHD, but live a life where I bloom. Our ADHD brains are so powerful and unique but untrained and neglected. We often struggle to a point it starts to drain us. Coping with a monthly menstrual cycle with all the changes and challenges it brings takes intentionality. Developing some healthy habits in my every day life has helped to lift the heaviness of the effects of my menstrual cycle." Have questions or want to carry on with this conversation? The outdoors and nature has a tremendous impact on our health and well-being. It can lower cortisol, increase Vitamin D, boost serotonin and dopamine. We all know the health benefits of getting outside. Yet, it can be hard to do and prioritize, especially when you have littles. In this episode, I'm sharing 4 lessons I've learned over the last couple years with prioritizing getting outside. I am in no way pumping myself up as the outdoor mom guru, because it's something I'm still being pushed in and learning about. But I know these 4 tips can be great places to start when you're wanting to get your kids out more. Enjoy the episode! It can be easy to think of God just up there in Heaven waving a finger at us, saying "you should have this figured out by now" or "can you just pull up your bootstraps already?" But yet God is gracious and compassionate in the midst of our "figuring out", pain and suffering. Even when we're living in deliberate sin, he's still waiting on us and wants to restore us. In this episode, I'm sharing 4 passages that point to just this. God wants to heal, wants to restore, wants to rescue. He cares that you're brokenhearted, that you're struggling with debilitating anxiety or depression again this premenstrual phase, that you're discouraged about your health and wellness journey. We all know the classic passage about love in 1 Corinthians. But when you read it, does it instill in you? Guilt, freedom, condemnation? When we're dealing with PMS or PMDD symptoms, and we clearly see we aren't kind or patient, and we're actually just downright rude and self-seeking, how do we allow the gospel to move in us that turns us away from self-serving to self-sacrifice? This is the last of the Advent series, as Christmas is just a few days away. This episode brings both love and Christ together, because we can't love, we can't be gracious or kind until we allow the true and radical love of God to transform us. Joy: it goes beyond just being happy and smiling all the time. Joy in Jesus is so much different than just being happy all the time, and it's even more pertinent when we're suffering, struggling or desiring something that just hasn't happened yet. However, how do we move beyond mood swings and how we're feeling in our premenstrual phase and truly root our strength in the joy of what Jesus has done for us and the promises God speaks over us? I know for my own self, this is an area God is continually refining me in. It requires humility and trusting in God's goodness, and not just in how I feel. So come have a listen to this third week of advent, and be invited to pursue a joy that's deep deep down, beyond fickle emotions and thoughts, but rather deeply grounded in the truth of who God is. We're onto our second week of Advent, and this week we're talking about peace. We've all heard peace thrown around by people: find your inner peace.. look within yourself to be calm. Lots of worldly advice that doesn't actually help. Instead, we need to find our peace from outside of ourselves, in God, the one who created us. So, if you've been asking questions like: What if I don't have enough _____________ ? And everything goes wrong? And we won't be all right? What if tragedy hits? These can be paralyzing if we don't know who to give them to. Have a listen and I pray this episode blesses you and points you to the Prince of Peace. She spent the beginning of her adult life studying at the University of Lethbridge, where she got her degrees in English and Education. She's been fortunate enough to do a bit of traveling and living in other places, and has spent the last few years teaching mainly in junior high and upper elementary grades. Her favourite job she's ever had is a tie between working at various summer camps and being a story teller for the library one semester. Her dream job has always been to farm, and that's still the long term goal. She's married to Eric, and she is currently enjoying her first few weeks of Maternity leave before she gets promoted to being Little Sprout's mom! Struggling with despair? Feeling frantic or like you're on the verge of breaking down? Questioning if you are loved or if God is near? In this week's episode, we're having a quick chat about 2 Timothy 2:13: "If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself". This verse has been extremely comforting to me this week as I have struggled with a lot of despairing internal dialogue and difficult emotions. It gives me so much comfort to know that even when I don't have the faith, Jesus still holds me so close. I hope this episode gives you encouragement today too. Much love, friend. In today's episode, we're talking about the stigma and taboo-ness around women's health and the menstrual cycle. I think I can confidently say we've all experienced it and each of us has varying degrees of baggage, shame or discomfort around the topic. I'm talking about how we can start gaining more awareness of our bodies and creating space for conversation, however you want that to look for yourself. It doesn't have to be covering ourselves with our menstrual blood and saying I AM WOMAN!, or hiding away in our rooms, pretending nothing is wrong, that you're not feeling things and all that! Let's find a happy balance that you feel confident and happy in! Let's jump into it! The reality is, our bodies crave simplicity and getting back to the basics. We often think that balancing hormones, getting emotionally regulated, getting our energy back and not being overwhelmed involve a whole slew of things. Yet, it's really the exact opposite. The more we try to "do" and "force", the more stressed out we're going to be, and we all know how that leads to more negative health issues. In this episode, I'm chatting about the 3 core pillars for helping solve menstrual-health related issues (from PMS to PCOS) that bring you back to the basics. While each of these specific health issues, like endometriosis & PCOS, have their own intricacies and different approaches, these 3 pillars are a great place to start. While these 3 points are very overarching, if you are interested in getting down to the specifics and figuring out how they can apply in your life and your specific situation, I'd love to work with you. Hey friend! We're getting back into the contemplative, "be still" kind of episodes I had offered when I first started this podcast. Originally they had been every other Thursday, but now they will be on the first Monday of every month. Keep your eyes out for "Take a Moment Monday"! I brought them back a) because I wasn't doing them in my Facebook group, which was the whole reason for taking them off of the podcast and b) because actually practicing calming my mind and my thoughts and slowing down has been so helpful for me in the last number of weeks. When it comes to finding solutions for working through PMS and PMDD symptoms, we really need to come at it from that holistic point of view. The movement is important, eating the right foods is key, finding the right coping tools to regulate our emotions is vital AND coming to our Creator and letting Him speak over us is absolutely necessary. So, grab a journal and pen and find a quiet space you can be in for 15 minutes. I pray this blesses you. EPISODE #50 This week, I'm diving into some pretty theologically-charged content about the idea of struggling with guilt, shame and feelings of condemnation when it comes to PMS or PMDD as a Christian. We're talking about questions like: - should I be struggling with PMS/ PMDD as a Christian? - aren't I supposed to be the one who "has it together" as a Christian? - I feel so shameful, embarrassed, guilty for how I treated my husband or kids. What do I do from here? And I'm sure there's more. Join me in this episode was we unpack these topics from a GOSPEL-CENTERED perspective. I hope it really blesses you! I've been there, and in this episode I want to share 3 things to consider if you're hesitant, scared or wondering what the process could or should look like. Hey friend! Have you been here before? You've traveled way too far down the self-criticism train, and now you are the worst person ever, everyone hates you and you're a failure. Suddenly all you can do is lay on the floor in a puddle of tears, or you're in fetal position on the shower floor. Oof, yup, been there. In this episode, I'm sharing 3 questions you need to be asking yourself when it comes to the all-consuming nature of self-criticism and self-hatred. It can be so easy for our thoughts to take over and for us to just get pulled along with our thoughts. But this is not what God wants for us, nor what he speaks over us. Have a listen & I pray the next time self-criticism starts rearing it's ugly head, you can ask yourself these 3 questions. You're at that point of feeling so overwhelmed, so caught up in your head, and it feels like you have no idea how you're going to make it through the next hour, let alone the next week or two. It feels like nothing is certain in this moment; you forget what supports you have in your life, what you're good at, who loves you. Your thoughts, feelings, emotions feel out of control, like someone has just hijacked your body, your brain. You're in survival mode. After struggling for years with anxiety and intrusive thoughts during my premenstrual phase, these grounding techniques were some of the initial tools I used to get out of the mental tornado. What I really want for you is to feel more grounded and centered, and not be rocked around by the wind and waves of premenstrual anxiety. These 5 practices will help ground you to the present moment, and help move you past the internal chaos and confusion. I hope they bless you! You know that getting your hormones balanced will help with the premenstrual symptoms, but does it feel really intimidating and illusive, and you're asking where do I even start? I hear ya! There have been moments when I have asked the same question! Where do I even start?! What should I eat, what shouldn't I eat, do I need to take something for it? Even with being a nurse and knowing biology and loving to geek over it all, sometimes it still feels daunting. In this episode, I break down the concept of hormones and where we need to begin if we're wanting to get them hormones more balanced! This is really just step 1 in laying a foundation for the concept of hormones that will help bridge into the nitty gritty later! Has this process felt intimidating and daunting to you?!
