However, the defence argued this material had too vague a link and was far too prejudicial to be heard by the jury. As we hear this news, concerns rise again about the influence of people like self-described misogynist Andrew Tate, and there are calls for his content to be taken down. If the polls are to be believed, Sir Keir Starmer could be set to beat Rishi Sunak's Conservative's and gain a record majority in Parliament, but perhaps with one of Labour's lowest shares of the vote. Despite promises on tax, voters believe they will pay more, and are sceptical about things getting better. Turnout is expected to be historically low. The Lib Dems are heading for a lower share of the vote than Reform but could get twenty times as many seats or more. Are these just the realities of our system or the warning lights on the dashboard for a democracy heading down the wrong road? Look across the water to France and beyond - are we potentially storing up even more discontent and anger from people who might turn right next time? In this episode of The Political Fourcast, Krishnan Guru-Murthy is joined by Labour's Bell Ribeiro-Addy, former Levelling Up Minister Dehenna Davison and the SNP's Mhairi Black to discuss all this and more. Produced by Shaheen Sattar, Silvia Maresca, Calum Fraser, Rob Thomson, Nick Jackson.

The SNP have released their manifesto and, on the first page, they've promised again to make Scotland independent - but with polling suggesting that Labour are heading for a landslide victory, including a majority of the seats in Scotland, could this be the end of the independence cause? Or, paradoxically, might it end up being the best thing for the independence campaign? Support for Scottish independence has been decoupled from support for the SNP in the polls. So might a Labour government that sticks to Conservative spending limits be just the launch pad the independence campaign needs? Joining Krishnan Guru-Murthy to discuss all this and more on The Political Fourcast are the SNP's Mhairi Black, Scottish Labour's Pam Duncan-Glancy and chairman of the Scottish Conservatives Craig Hoy. Produced by Silvia Maresca, Calum Fraser, Shaheen Sattar, Rob Thomson, Nick Jackson.
In week two of the campaigns for the upcoming General Election - the fight for the centre vote has become a focal point. But the crucial question remains - what will this do for the future of politics in the UK? Are we at risk of losing diversity across parties? And as Keir Starmer appears to be purging the left-wing factions of the Labour Party, Nish and Coco speak to former Labour leader and now independent candidate Jeremy Corbyn on whether he's hopeful for a potential Labour government and what advice he has for Keir Starmer.Nish and Coco also speak to Mhairi Black about the challenges facing the SNP when trying to capture the electorate. They also discuss whether we are at risk of losing the kind of representation that the Left and younger voters need to bring about hope and change in society. There's also a rundown of the first Sunak vs Starmer TV debate and a return of the best WTF moments from the week's political campaigns.Pod Save the UK is a Reduced Listening production for Crooked Media.Contact us via email: PSUK@reducedlistening.co.ukWhatsApp: 07494 933 444 (UK) or + 44 7494 933 444 (internationally)Insta: https://instagram.com/podsavetheukTwitter: https://twitter.com/podsavetheukTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@podsavetheukFacebook: https://facebook.com/podsavetheukYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/podsavetheworld Guests:Jeremy Corbyn, Independent Candidate for Islington NorthMhairi Black, former SNP Deputy Leader and MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South Audio credits:BBC ITVLabour PartySky News Useful links:Come to see Pod Save the UK live at Edinburgh Fringe!
This week on The Political Fourcast, another scandal hits the Tories - Mark Menzies MP loses the whip as the Conservative Party investigates claims that he misused campaign funds. He allegedly made a late night call to ask for money to pay off "bad people". He disputes the allegations and senior Tory MPs are telling voters not to rush to judgement. With upcoming local elections and a looming general election, the allegations risk damaging the party in government. But is today's story just another example in a long line of MPs from all parties flouting the rules? Since 2019, there have been at least 10 cases of Conservative MPs that have either been suspended or quit over allegations of misconduct. Similarly, across the same time period, there have been at least four Labour MPs accused of misconduct, along with one from the SNP and one from Plaid Cymru. This week, we speak to the SNP's deputy leader in the Commons Mhairi Black, who's announced she will stand down at the next election. And former Education Secretary Justine Greening, who had the Tory whip withdrawn after opposing Boris Johnson over Brexit in 2019. They talk to us about mistrust in politics, and why this “jaw dropping” scandal could be a “plague” on politics at large, and confirm what voters think of Westminster's politicians. Produced by Silvia Maresca, Shaheen Sattar, Rob Thomson, Calum Fraser, Nick Jackson.

Mhairi Black took British politics by storm with her election and maiden speech in 2015. 8 years on and she's now Deputy Leader of the SNP in Westminster... but not for much longer. A few weeks ago Mhairi announced that she won't be standing at the next election. Why has such an impassioned politician, especially one who's now in a leadership role, deciding to stand down at just age 28? This is the story of a tumultuous period in our politics, where rapid change has become the norm. Scottish politics is arguably even more volatile, so what is the future of the country, the SNP and the independence movement? This is a riveting, urgent listen... especially if you love video games. After the marathon political catch- up last week we have more of a meander through various topics this episode. We reflect on Mhairi Black's announcement that she, along with currently six other SNP MPs, won't be standing for re-election,the toxicity and the allure of Westminster and its bubble.Much is being made of tensions, even splits,in the SNP but all is not well in the Labour Party. It looks like left leaning candidates are not being selected and there's disquiet over shifts in policy over public ownership, green policies, and an acceptance of Tory fiscal policy. Despite the acceptance by Anas Sarwar of UK Labour's " No" will there be a Holyrood rebellion supporting the Scottish Government's decriminalisation of drug possession and use proposals?Lesley reflects on her Scottish "Thrive" tour and her soggy Highland bike holiday.Pat,meanwhile, manages to shoehorn Scottish independence into his house move. Mhairi Black joins The Bunker to discuss the future of Scottish independence, her party's ne leader and the quirks of Westminster. Following Sturgeon standing down as SNP leader and Scotland's first leader, she joins Marie Le Conte to speak about what will come next – and what might happen under her successor, whoever that may be. “If you're in a democracy and you can't get a reply from a minister, then your democracy's not very good.” “I still think Sturgeon is head and shoulders above pretty much any politician in the UK. She understands normal people's lives, even though she hasn't been living one.” “I have no doubt Scotland will be independent, it's not a matter of if but when it happens. The case speaks for itself.” “Westminster is failing us… internationally, there are plenty of examples of what Scotland could be like.” Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/bunkercast Presented by Marie Le Conte. With Conservative Business Secretary Grant Shapps, Labour's Bridget Phillipson and the SNP's Mhairi Black. Three of the country's leading politicians are on the podcast talking through some of the biggest political issues right now, including the UK government blocking a Scottish bill for the first time ever. This episode of Newscast was presented by Chris Mason and James Cook and was made by Chris Flynn with Danny Wittenberg. The senior news editor was Sam Bonham.
There's been a change in SNP leadership at Westminster with Stephen Flynn and Mhairi Black replacing Ian Blackford and Kirsten Oswald. Was it mere coincidence that this changing of the old guard took place just 10 days after the Supreme Court ruling, and does it signal a galvanization of the party in the same way the ruling appears to have fired up the wider movement? The STUC has published a report just days before the Scottish budget statement suggesting radical, progressive, reforms right across the fiscal landscape. We look at them and speculate on what the response will be from the SNP not just at Holyrood but from the membership. We also wonder why the apparent silence from Scottish Labour.Sir Keir Starmer hasn't been so quiet in his campaign to paint Labour as the party of the Union, getting his lick in first in the SNP blame game if he fails to get a majority at the next General Election. All these plus thoughts on more bravura performances from Mick Lynch of the RMT and Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life. ★ Support this podcast ★

"Keep an eye on Paisley..." Benjamin Disraeli Mark Steel visits the Renfrewshire town of Paisley that's definitely not in Glasgow. The largest town in Scotland, Paisley has a rich history; being at the centre of the weaving industry it gave its name to the famous Paisley pattern, as well as being the site of a landmark legal battle involving a snail in a bottle of ginger beer which led to a change in consumer law. More recently, Paisley elected Mhairi Black, the youngest MP since 1832. Whilst in town Mark visits a 'Car Park In The Sky', has a wander round a 12th century Abbey with alien gargoyles and ends up having a game of pool with a dog called Murphy. Mark Steel returns for a sixth series of the award winning show that travels around the country, researching the history, heritage and culture of six towns that have nothing in common but their uniqueness, and performs a bespoke evening of comedy for the local residents. Written and performed by ... Mark Steel Additional material by ... Pete Sinclair Production co-ordinator ... Hayley Sterling Producer ... Carl Cooper A BBC Radio Comedy Production for BBC Radio 4 first broadcast in 2015.
In her address to the IIEA's YPN, Mhairi Black offers her perspective on Scotland's future now that Brexit has become a reality and the United Kingdom has formally withdrawn from the European Union. Her address follows recent Scottish Parliament Elections, held in May 2021, which saw the SNP win a fourth consecutive term in government. About the Speaker: Mhairi Black is the SNP Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire South. Mhairi began campaigning during the Independence Referendum in Scotland in 2014. Following the Referendum Mhairi was approached to stand as Member of Parliament by her local branch in the 2015 general election. At 20 years old she became the youngest MP elected since the Reform Act of 1823. Since being elected Mhairi has campaigned for social justice and an end to austerity. Mhairi was re-elected in 2017 and again in 2019.

War with Russia? Theresa May's speech on housing and Mhairi Black talks about the constant abuse she receives... and there's a quiz.
This day early podcast is brought to you courtesy of my gallivanting off to Wales tomorrow(Thursday) morning. Lesley returns to the continuing story of land ownership in Scotland and the rights (or lack of them) of tenant farmers. Labour's Scottish conference in Dundee and the potential rebellion of Kezia Dugdale and Ian Murray leads us down the byways of speculation over Brexit, Labour's squaring of electoral circles north and south of the border and allotments (trust me it made sense at the time). Plus, I have my say on Labour voting independence supporters, like Cat Boyd. A beautifully written article in Bella Caledonia by Clare Galloway allows us to discuss the role, impact, and cost of alcohol in Scotland. We ask will Sky come to regret its poll on the most influential women in British history as Nicola Sturgeon and Mhairi Black lie first and third with only two hours left to vote? Tomorrow is International Women's Day and we finish with reflections on Mhairi Black's passionate, articulate, and deeply personal speech on misogyny at Westminster earlier today.

Between launching a report into pension inequality and marching on Downing Street (where Theresa May isn't) Mhairi Black and Iain Blackford - the SNP's pensions team - find time to join James Millar for a chat about pensions, independence, meeting Brangelina and that stooshie over what words are offensive to the LGBT community.
Mhairi Black was yet to graduate when she was elected to the House of Commons in May - the youngest Member of Parliament for over a century. She overturned a 16,000 majority and ousted the veteran Labour MP Douglas Alexander to win Paisley and Renfrewshire South for the SNP. She's packed a lot in to the past few weeks: taking her seat in Parliament; sitting the final exam of her politics degree (dissertation subject: the rise of the SNP); attending her graduation ceremony; and making her maiden speech, in which she attacked the Conservative budget with the observation that she was the only 20-year-old in the whole of the UK who the Chancellor was prepared to help with housing support. The seven minute speech has been viewed online an astonishing 10 million times. Mhairi Black emerged as a political starlet during the referendum campaign on Scottish independence in 2014. She caught the eye of the former SNP deputy leader Jim Sillars, who invited her to play a central role in the Yes Campaign, and who also advised her to stand for Parliament. She was expected to give Douglas Alexander a run for his money, but the real target was Holyrood in 2016. Now she's at Westminster, where an eager press is watching her every move. Her candid teenage tweets have been exhumed and her eating habits have been put under the microscope (even her best friends worry about her appetite for chips and Irn Bru). And she'll have less time to use her Partick Thistle season ticket. But Mhairi Black has her sights set for the top. "She will be a significant leader of a left-wing position in Scottish politics," says Jim Sillars. Presenter: Adam Fleming Producer: Tim Mansel.
