Jim Chamberlain has been preparing Dune Buggies for Baja since Bruce Meyers invented them in the early 1960s. Chamberlain prepared the legendary "Old Red" for its record-breaking run from La Paz to Tijuana that preceded the first National Off-Road Racing Association race in October 1967. Chamberlain was also a noted racer -while often found behind the scenes, he was the 69th entry in the 1967 Mexican 1000 -an electrical problem kept him from taking the green flag. He was instrumental in the VW buggy racing scene at Ascot Speedway and led the charge of Baja racers at Pikes Peak. He entered the second NORRA Mexican 1000 in his stock 1965 Volkswagen Van and said, "if you subtract the eight hours spent sleeping due to sheer exhaustion, our finish time would have been good enough to win the class!" Rainbow Farm O what tangled webs we weave, the cute little rabbits led by Imperitia have been successful in pulling their party to the extreme left. Fancy beaten down to the point of submission has capitulated to the calls and demands for Impeachment as Operation Take Down Pete continues. Her lead attack dog Shifty the Weasel leads the charge as Nads the Walrus is regulated to second fiddle. The Shifty Show is just another nothing burger as KT, the Turtle from the Bourbon Belt and leader of the Elephants just waits on the foregone political conclusion from the House so he can chew it up and spit it out like the rotten piece of lettuce it is. Pete continues to drain the swamp and the Left continues to howl with displeasure. Many of the deep state are shown the door to include two little Ukrainian twin bears, Beefy and Atticus. The new election is just around the corner and presidential pretenders like CPL aka Avy the Anteater are exposed as frauds while the others split into two camps: the Bolsheviks led by Old Red the Bear and the Mods led by Sniffy the Hound. Pete like the rest of the Elephants just sit back and enjoys the show and circular firing squad of Donkeys such as the maniacal debate known as the Huss, Fuss and Cuss in Sin City the barnyard casino. Another pretender a rich potbellied Pig named Wiltberg, Wilty for short, one of the richest animals on the Farm is trying to buy the nomination. Who will the Donkeys pick? Will it be the cute young possum A. E. Neuman; Old Red and his coveted balloon, Sniffy, Dyani the Doe, Peppermint Patty the Meerkat or Wilty? Will anyone challenge Justice, have they learned from their mistakes of the past? How will they fare against Pete in the General? Will the Donkeys screw Old Red again? Will Shrill parachute in at the last minute to save the day? Is the Farm headed for Revolution? Join along and enjoy this sequel to Rainbow Farm and find the answers to these questions. Robert Williams is a retired Army officer who lives in Northern Virginia. Enlisting in the US Army in 1982 into the Infantry his first assignment was Fort Lewis, Washington. The high point of this first tour was climbing Mount Rainer and many weekends spent in Pioneer Square Tavern in Seattle. His thirty-two year Army career was one of two halves the first being assignments with the Infantry and the latter eighteen years as a Russia Foreign Area officer with multiple assignments in Eastern Europe and missions in Russia proper. Born in 1960 in Memphis, Tennessee he lived there a very short time before moving to West Memphis, Arkansas. Growing up as the son of a school teacher he was encouraged from an early age to read and to this day remains an avid reader. His summers were spent in Tyronza , Arkansas where he along with his siblings and cousins worked for their maternal grandfather chopping cotton and soy beans. Cotton in the south was a year round affair beginning with planting in the spring, chopping in the summer and packing down the trailers in the fall when it was harvested. During spare time he read the Hardy Boys and classics from Mark Twain to include Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. After graduating from high school Bob moved to Salinas, California before moving to southern California where he lived in Ventura. When living in Salinas he became enamored with the famous local author John Steinbeck reading several of his classics. His favorites were The Grapes of Wrath and Cannery Row. After a few years living in California he moved back to Arkansas and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Army. While in College in 1987 at the University of Memphis and enrolled in a Medical Anthropology course the seed for writing was planted. A course requirement he penned received high praise and encouragement from his instructor Dr. Ruthbeth Finerman . Ms. Finerman encouraged Bob to make an attempt at getting the paper published as an article in Memphis Magazine. He never made the attempt but the praise and encouragement from such an esteemed professor who he greatly admired stuck with him for years to come. Years later when in a Master’s Program for Russian and Eastern European Studies he would be required to write a thesis on the Russia and Chechnya conflict 94/96. He also dove head on into more reading in the required Russian literature his favorite being Fyodor Dosvetsky’s Crime and Punishment. But it was a British author, George Orwell and his allegorical novella Animal Farm that was his favorite. This story would resurface seventeen years later and while on vacation with his family in South Carolina the seed planted in Memphis in 1987 twenty plus years earlier would germinate and he would pen Rainbow Farm. www.amazon.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/robtwilliams2.mp3

"The Delights of Dogs and The Problems of People is a study of domestic abuse. It asks what causes a mind to unravel and why we don’t recognise the dangers lurking under our own roofs until it’s too late. This is not a story of a monster and a victim – life is not that simple. Performed by Duncan Wilkins (Romeo and Juliet, MokitaGrit) and Rosalind Blessed (Octavia, RSC Barbican) and directed by Caroline Devlin (King Lear, Guildford Shakespeare Company), the production holds dear the pure love of a dog and an owner even as human relationships become destructive. Bound together by a discussion of common yet devastating issues, it will be performed alongside Lullabies for the Lost." 8TH, 10TH, 11TH, 14TH, 16TH, 22ND, 24TH, 28TH, 30TH OF JANUARY AND 1ST OF FEBRUARY 2020, SEE WEBSITE FOR DETAILS, £16.50(£12.50), OLD RED LION THEATRE, LONDON https://www.oldredliontheatre.co.uk/the-delights-of-dogs-and-the-problems-of-people.html Photography by Natalie Wells (apologies for cropping your work for podcast artwork purposes). Bruce Meyers grew up in Southern California during the days of drag racing, surfing, and dune buggies. Bruce designed and built the first lightweight dune buggie and called the Meyers Manx. He built the first 12, all monocoque bodies, in 1964. The first Meyers Manx was named Old Red and Bruce still owns that Manx today. B.F. Meyers & Co. built 5,280 Meyers Manx kits, several hundred Manx II’s and 1,000 Meyers Tow’ds, a few hundred Manx SR’s and 75 Resorters/Turista’s - a total of nearly 7,000 kits. He started a storm that became an icon. Old Red beat the standing Tijuana to La Paz motorcycle record by over five hours culminating in the first Baja off-road race. Old Red was inducted into the Historic Vehicle Register as a car of significant design and construction. Today Bruce and his wife, Winnie, run Meyers Manx Inc. which offers 5 different models of kit cars out of Southern California.
00:00 - Introduction 03:23 - Free-for-All (Favorite Places Seen Traveling in America) 18:10 - Main Topic (In Vino Vocation) On episode FORTY-TWO of Let the Bird Fly! the guys welcome the Rigge family to discuss what it’s like to open and run a winery in Minnesota. Laura and John Rigge are joined by two of their daughters, as they tell us their story of founding Grandview Valley Winery in Belview, Minnesota. John and Laura know how to treat podcast hosts, as they brought along a tasty bottle of their very own Old Red & White wine to share. As good as the wine is (and it truly is), we think you’ll enjoy their stories just a much as you’ll enjoy their wine. Their passion for their work and for each other is evident throughout the conversation, and we are extremely grateful to them for sharing it with us. Wade was so grateful, in fact, that he made the Rigge’s the first-ever recipients of the Things Wade Likes: Let the Bird Fly! Award, which was fittingly accompanied by a Martin Luther bobblehead. If you find yourself near Belview, Minnesota, do yourself the favor of visiting the Rigge family at Grandview Valley Winery. And even if you’re not in Minnesota, you can keep up with what they’re up to and with the winery on their Facebook Page and on the Twitter Machine. As always, if you are enjoying the show, please subscribe, rate, and review us on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or TuneIn Radio. You can also like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. And, of course, share us with a friend or two! If you’d like to contact us we can be reached at podcast@LetTheBirdFly.com, or visit our website at www.LetTheBirdFly.com. Thanks for listening! Christian and Agent Sterling sit down and offer their SPOILER-FILLED rave reviews of the "Wonder Woman" movie, comparing it to super hero movies that have come before, while also discussing the awareness, perception of the character and her relevance as a female role model and feminist icon. They also discuss the other relevant female super heroes are, and where Spider Woman and Ms. Marvel rank on the list, the impact cosplay has on some characters' relevance and the importance of Steve Trevor and Chris Pine. They also look ahead to Justice League and the tragedy that has led to Joss Whedon taking over the director's chair to finish it off, which leads to a quantification of Joss Whedon's body of work. Finally, Agent Starling gives an update on his podcast, The Motivation Report
