Josephine Baker is the legendary woman Jussy is telling us about this week. Despite being born into extreme poverty and living on the streets of St Louis as a child, Josephine went onto become one of the most successful African American performers in history.  Her cabaret career took her around the world and she began to use her platform to change the world. Without giving away all the details of her incredible story Josephine went into become a Second World War spy and a leader in the civil rights movement.  In modern times she has come to be known as a queer icon because of the way she unashamedly lived her life in a way that deviated significantly from the prescribed social norms of the time.  This week Jussy recommended her new Kip and Co slippers and Chōle could not stop raving about her Google Home.  There were some heavy themes in this episode and if you feel you need to reach out and talk to someone please phone Lifeline on 13 11 14.

This week we are chatting about two topics we feel very passionate about.   The first is the US Supreme Courts vote to over turn Roe v Wade. This means the US no longer recognises that a woman has a constitutional right to access an abortion without excessive government interference and is a terrifying step backwards for reproductive rights. It potentially paves the way for abortion to be outlawed. We also discuss the murder of Chen Cheng, a Melbourne mother of two who was brutality murdered in her home by her husband on the weekend. The Australian media has predictably started to centre the man who did this as a “good guy” and we are absolutely sick of the was this diminishes the horrific acts of violence men perpetrate towards women.  If you need to reach out to Family and domestic violence support services in Australia please contact: 1800 Respect National Helpline: 1800 737 732 Women's Crisis Line: 1800 811 811 Men's Referral Service: 1300 766 491 Mensline: 1300 789 978 Lifeline (24-hour Crisis Line): 131 114
