THE TROUBADOUR PODCAST - The Premier Red Dirt, Texas Country and Independent Music Podcast
The #1 way you can support The Troubadour is by visiting our Patreon page This episode features our interview with Country Music artist Donice Morace. You can't fake authentic. You know it when you see it – and you know it when you hear it. Authentic isthe best word that can be used to describe Donice Morace. From his chiseled good looks and easy-goingpersonality that exude the confidence of a man who knows exactly who he is, to his music which catchesyour ear and takes you back to another era when country music was defined by vocal stylists who were immediately identifiable, Donice is truly authentic. Donice began his journey in music at the tender age of six when his father bought him his first guitar. By the time he was a junior in high school he was singing in choir, and after seeing George Strait in concert while in college at Texas A&M, it became clear to him that music would be his life's calling. The Vidor,Texas native found inspiration from the music of Keith Whitley, George Jones, and Conway Twitty. And while those country traditionalists helped to shape his own sound, it was two local country music heroes, Tracy Byrd and Mark Chesnutt, who gave Donice a good blueprint when it came time to take hiscareer to the professional level and launch his own band. “I learned so much from watching how they had handled their careers. It was like Honky Tonk 101. Donice continued to grow his stock with the release of his debut self-titled EP in 2017, which featured the top 25 single, “Good Hurt Comin' On,” and “WD-40 and Duct Tape,” which was accompanied by a music video, and peaked at number 15 on the Texas Regional Radio Report. He doubled down with the release of his debut album ‘Long Live the Cowboy' in 2019, unashamedly putting the cowboy back in country music. Fast forward to today, Donice recently released his latest critically acclaimed album ‘This Life I Love,' marking a watershed moment for Donice to continue stake his claim on the country music landscape. The album features his recent trilogy of hit singles and music videos, “One Drink In,” “Goin' Goin'” and “Wait Til I'm Gone.” Individually and collectively, these songs have shone a bright light on the Texas native, notched him a win as “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the 2022 Texas Country Music Awards, and garnered high praise and coverage from some of country music's largest media outlets. Donice Morace remains the “One to Watch” in the neo-traditional country music movement that he is helping to spearhead. We're also excited to say that we are now an affiliate for Sweetwater. In Lee's own words: I was born and raised in Concord, NC. Just Northeast of Charlottle, it was a town of 25,000 back then. As long as I can remember, music was around. Whether it be the turntables or 8 tracks; where my older brothers played rock and roll of the 60s & 70s, Dad listened to older country artists or Mom's Pontiac Bonneville, which seemed to always have the hits playing through it's car stereo from either 61AM Big Ways, 95FM WROQ or 1100 WBT-AM…Music was always a comforting companion. Not coming from a particularly musical family other than them playing the radio, the drum bug came from the next door neighbor playing and then taking it from there. I was playing with records by 8-9 years old; began school band in 7th grade with the natural progression through high school playing in marching, jazz and symphonic bands throughout. Since music was not viewed in my family as something you pursued as a career, I studied English Literature & Writing at Pfeiffer University until my senior year in 1990-91 when long time friend and a musical mentor, Rick Lee, called and said, "I'm forming a new band and you're the drummer." This was the beginnings of my music career and the 2019 Carolina Beach Music Hall Of Fame band, Too Much Sylvia. After leaving TMS in 1994, I played with a few different bands out of Charlotte and all around the East Coast through 1996. In September 1996, a weeklong trip to Nashville, TN put the hook in and I moved to Music City on January 11, 1997. Fortunately, I got club and road work pretty quickly while learning constantly along the way. The idea was to make a living while seeing the world and that plan came to fruition over the years backing artists like Gary Allan, Mark Chesnutt, Heidi Newfield, Kelly Pickler, Loverboy, Kendell Marvel and, now, Hank Williams Jr. Also, to be able to play and share time with some of the finest musicians & people along the way has just been magic. It's a ride I can't get off of...Nor do I want to. Along with time on the road with Hank Jr., I offer drum/percussion tracks to any clients out of the "Boom Boom Drum Room", do club/showcase/session work around town and spend time caring for my family. A third-generation firefighter, Jason Byrd has always had another fire burning within … as a traditional country music singer, songwriter and performer. Mentored by none other than George Jones, Byrd has played stages across the US and Canada, opening for powerhouse artists such as Tracy Lawrence, Loretta Lynn, Mark Chesnutt, Dierks Bentley and, of course, George Jones. Jason has appeared on the world-famous Grand Ole Opry and made multiple TV appearances. In 2019, Jason retired from his post as a Battalion Chief of the Tallahassee Fire Department to focus on music. Byrd released a self-penned duet with George Jones called, “Better Life," which he'd kept under wraps for years prior. The song was ready for release just prior to Jones' passing and Byrd held onto it out of respect for his friend. In 2021, with the blessing of Nancy Jones, he released the tune, which was nominated for Single of the Year at the Josie Music Awards. Jason was invited to perform the song recently for celebrity guests at a VIP dinner in Hunstville, AL prior to the Still Playin' Possum concert marking a decade since the passing of George Jones. Jason currently has two songs nominated for the 2023 Josie Music Awards Song of the Year and continues to delight real country fans with a full tour schedule. After working several shows with Lauren Spring, another Florida-based writer, Byrd chose to record and release “Gulf Coastin'” as a Summer song for 2023. www.jasonbyrdmusic.com © 2023 Lotta Dogs Productions LLC Showrunner and Executive Producer Emeritus: Tom Sabella Producer and Host (the guy who has a face for podcasting): Bob Bender Management Representation: Chuck Thompson for Thompson Entertainment Group, LLC Co-Producer - Audio/Video Editor (the man behind the curtain): Mark Sabella Director of Video and Continuity (the brains of the entire operation): Deborah Halle Marketing and Social Media (all knowing): Sarah Fleshner for 362 Entertainment All Around Problem Solver (and Mental Health Therapist for us): Connie Ribas Recorded inside what could be an old beat up Airstream Trailer located somewhere on what's left of Music Row in Nashville TN (Man we sure do miss Noshville, and the Longhorn Steakhouse) Mixed and Mastered at Music Dog Studios in Nashville, TN Editing and Post at Midnight Express Studio located in Olian, NY Production Sound Design: Keith Stark Voice Over and Promo: Lisa Fuson Special Thanks to the creator and founder of the podcast, Tom Sabella, along with Traci Snow for producing and hosting over 100 episodes of the original "Business Side of Music" podcast and trusting us to carry on their legacy. On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by singer/songwriter's Amanda Kate and Riley Braker!AMANDA KATEBorn in a no-stop-light-town in Red River, NM, Amanda Kate Ferris grew up equally inspired by her small-town upbringing and her mother, Kathy Wright, an artist and entertainer herself. As one of the original “Dean Martin Golddiggers” on the 1960's TV show, 18-year-old Kathy often collaborated with The Rat Pack's crooners, embracing the era's glamour. The apple didn't fall far from the tree, and young Amanda was singing as early as two years old. Inspired by her mother's tales of performing on the stage and screen, she developed her own voice in the church. Amanda added songwriting to her repertoire at age 14, looking again to follow in her mother's footsteps as a full-time musician and artist. During her mother's long sets at Honky Tonks between California, New Mexico, and Texas, Amanda fell in love with the music of The Judds, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Leanne Womack, and Brooks & Dunn, all of which heavily influenced her current sound. Her love of Country music led her to chase her dreams in Nashville. Over the next few years, she went through multiple groups, opportunities, and countless hours spent on her craft in Music City. On the brink of letting these long sought-after dreams go, Amanda decided that she needed a change of pace and settled in with her family. After she and her husband welcomed their first child, Amanda was back on stage, this time performing Carrie Underwood songs in a national touring cover band, Blown Away. Their incredible renditions of Underwood's hits led to an unsolicited and highly coveted spot on Executive Producer Jimmy Fallon's new show for E!, “Clash of the Cover Bands.” Through Underwood's iconic songs, Amanda was able to fulfill her love of entertaining and singing, but she felt a calling to again create her own original music. The show was a full circle moment for Ferris, appearing on the same network that gave her mother her start over 50 years ago. Off-screen, this allowed Amanda the opportunity to highlight her new original music, simultaneously releasing her self-titled EP to rave reviews, including editorial placement on Spotify's Texas Country Now, the largest Red Dirt Playlist. In early 2022, Ferris' love for traditional Country sparked the interest of renowned producer Jimmy Ritchey (Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt), with whom she recorded five new tracks reminiscent of the traditional country stylings of Ferris' favorites from the 90s. Look out this fall for “Baby Don't,” Ferris' debut on Texas radio. “Baby Don't” honors her Texas Country roots and showcases her captivating vocals. This lead single will be followed by an EP in early 2023 to reflect upon her western influences and love of Country music history. A cowgirl at heart, she spends any free time riding her horses with her family at Rockin R Ranch in Palmer, TX. On the road, Amanda has graced the stage with such acts as Tracey Lawrence, Bailey Zimmerman, Deana Carter, Warren Zeiders, Chase Rice, Priscilla Block, Casey Donahew, Josh Abbott Band, and more. RILEY BRAKERRiley is a gifted singer-songwriter, with a voice tailor made to tell her heartfelt stories of life as a young adult. She crafts her tales of love, woe, and regret, and infuses her characters with so much life, the listener feels as if they are experiencing the events first handy
Mark Chesnutt balances funny and disturbing with the of-its-time 1992 hit "Bubba Shot the Jukebox". It's a Dennis Linde composition, so we can expect a tongue-in-cheek tone, but how does this one mix peril with absurdity to stay just on this side of too far?

Date: August 23, 2023Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioEpisode title and number: S5: E4 - Paul Noyola - East Texas Pickin and PatrolingBIO:Around 13 years old, I taught myself to play guitar - singing my favorite tunes comforted me during a tumultuous time in my life. Within a year, I began writing songs and performing at events around East Texas. In 1995, I was 15 and was hired by a local country club to perform for 4 hours every Friday night for several years. I also formed & fronted The Tailor Made Band beginning in 1995, touring regionally, playing old country, western swing tunes, and several songs that I had written. During those early teenage years, I headlined local festivals & performed at events with Leann Rimes, Mark Chesnutt, Wayne Toups, and Johnny Gimble, and was mentored in songwriting by Grammy Award winner Don Rollins. When I turned 20, I felt the need to get into a career and became a police officer, which I devoted all my attention to for about 5 years until I had the urge to perform music again. The freedom and power of rock music were a big influence on me from an early age - with some of my favorites being the Beatles, Led Zepplin, and 90's grunge. I had always wanted to do a rock project, so in 2005 I fronted a 4 piece rock band called Demagogue and for the next two years, we wrote and performed our music around Texas and Louisiana, releasing the EP Passage To Repute and album Fight The Fate. The bassist for the band was Matt Sebastian, who is currently performing around the Houston area. The drummer for Demagogue is now a well-known session drummer and studio owner in the Nashville area, Grady Saxman with Saxman Studios.A few years later, I fronted another rock project called Noyola and during its 3-year run, we released the album Sow Tomorrow and regionally toured the Texas and Louisiana area. After the band Noyola dissolved around 2012, I got busy with life - working on my businesses, traveling, and getting married. In 2022, I got back to recording and writing, with the release of a new single called Holding On To Hope in March 2023 and Claim To Be in June 2023. The music I create now has mellowed and matured a bit - all of the genres that I love and have performed over the years have melded together to style the new songs I'm writing and performing - but I do still love performing some of the rock songs I wrote years ago.Sponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMWWW.SIGNAD.COMWWW.RUNWAYAUDIO.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist(s) Social Media:http://www.paulnoyola.comCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by country music, artist, Savannah Rae!SAVANNAH RAE is an all-American country singer-songwriter who proudly hails from San Antonio, Texas. Her fast rise as an artist has been a whirlwind of opportunities that include touring intimate and large venues, performing on the main stage of the Texas State Fair where she opened for Jason Aldean, appearances on the American Music Awards and on NBC's The Voice, along with being a brand ambassador for Boot Barn, Country Outfitter, C Force Water by Chuck Norris, and Miranda Lambert's clothing line, Idyllwind.Savannah recently released a country & Tejano infused anthem called “Pushing Up Daisies (Chupando Gladiolas).” Backed by hard hitting and catchy instrumentation, she stays out in front of the music with her power and intensity, while adding a Latin flair all her own. Produced by BMG's Jeff Huskins (Clint Black, Mark Chesnutt, Little Texas), this is truly a one-of-a-kind track that has seen radio play all across the world from Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, Ireland, and everywhere in between. This track also propelled her to win the Dirt Road FM Award for Country Riser of the Year. Following up PUD, Savannah released a 90's reminiscent ode to country called “All Hat,” written by Drew Womack (Lonestar) & Savannah herself and produced by Jeff Huskins (BMG). The song charted on all major Texas Radio Charts (T3R, CDX, & TCMC) and continues to do so, whilst garnering attention from stations all over the world in Scotland, UK, and France.2022 was a breakout year for Savannah Rae, but she is just getting started with additional releases already scheduled well into 2023.******Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville is streamed live every Wednesday night 9pm ET/ 6pm PT on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Inside the Wolf’s Den an Entrepreneurial Journey with Shawn and Joni Wolfswinkel
In this week's fun episode, Shawn and Joni welcome the Inside the Wolf's Den Producers to the podcast to share their true story of entrepreneurial grit. Los Angeles-based filmmaker Dan McMellen sits down with his former business partner Brett Moses, Shawn and Joni's current Director of Marketing, to discuss the successful country music genre independent feature film project the duo spearheaded, wrote, and directed entitled Noble Things. Dan is an Emmy Award-winning television editor helping create such well-known shows as ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, NBC's The Steve Harvey Show, Discovery's Battlebots, and currently, America's Got Talent on NBC. Brett's early acting credits include a stint on the NBC soap opera Passions and Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the WB, Fox's Melrose Place, and popular national campaigns for Pace Picante Sauce and Nissan. The pair share their feelings about going “all-in” with devotion as they invested more than a decade of their lives and overcame tremendous trials and tribulations, creating this gritty independent film. The emotional charged movie stars Ryan Hurst, Michael Parks, Dominique Swain, and Lee Ann Womack. It was a “Top Critics' Pick” at the prestigious Austin Film Festival on its way to an extended run on Showtime and finally debuting on network television as Fox's “Movie of The Week.” The soundtrack for the country music-driven movie was produced by Clay Walker and included notable performances from favorites Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Byrd, Bo Bice, Dob Gray, Tracy Lawrence, and Zona Jones. Now, due to the popularity of the "cowboy" genre niche in today's film and television culture and pandemic-related content supply constraints, the feature film will soon enjoy a second life when it is rereleased on a major streaming platform. In this week's episode we're featuring the debut album for Beaumont's George Dearborne: "Old Brown Bottle" (2020). Make no mistake though, this is not Dearborne's first rodeo. Embedded in the area music scene during the 70s and 80s, Dearborne met a teenage Mark Chesnutt when he himself was only a few years older. Years later, Dearborne and his renowned band "Branded" would become the house act at the Beaumont's legendary low-slung honky tonk Cutter's - a position held by Chesnutt only a few years prior. Nashville didn't work out for Dearborne however, and he gave music away for 22 years, picking it up again in 2016 and reforming "Branded" with new and all-star personnel. Fast making a name for himself around the Lone Star State, "Old Brown Bottle" is a welcome debut for traditional country fans who enjoy straight ahead country shuffles with a good sense of fun. The best pickers money can buy appeared on "Old Brown Bottle" and you can hear the quality with every track. Highlights are numerous: the steel guitar intro from Mike Johnson on "One More", Wes Hightower's blending with Dearborne's lead vocals on "A Fire That Just Won't Burn" and two Ray Price shuffles are obvious standouts.
Josh and Richard recap the Cedartown/Rockmart game, the Mark Chesnutt show, and have million dollar brewery ideas (in case any investors are listening).

On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show, we are joined by rising country music artist and Willie Nelson's granddaughter, Raelyn Nelson and Okivia Faye, who sang duet with Noah Thompson, the winner of this years American Idol and who is a singer/songwriter/axctress herself.RAELYN NELSONAs an emerging female country artist in Nashville, history suggests that the quickest path to success is somehow aligning oneself with one of the major publishers, producers, songwriters, labels, or managers that are the heart of Music Row. So what do you do if you are an emerging female country artist in Nashville, and also happen to be the granddaughter of musical icon, Willie Nelson? You hook up with an independent producer and veteran of the rock/punk scene, write some songs that are part Loretta Lynn, part Cheap Trick, and form the Raelyn Nelson Band. "I don't really have any desire to be a 'solo-artist'. Everyone in my family who plays music has always placed a lot of importance on band chemistry, on stage, off stage and in the studio. Our band can almost read each other's minds. Why would I mess with that? We try to keep it simple: Write songs we like, record them, make a video, then go out and play them for people."- Raelyn NelsonOLIVIA FAYEOlivia Faye is a country/pop singer/songwriter and actress who hails from Murray, Kentucky. Growing up in a family of music lovers, her musical stylings pay homage to many of the early icons of country music, blues and classic rock. Olivia moved to Nashville at 19, and quickly acclimated to a life in Music City as a songwriter and performer. Her smooth, bluesy vocals and catchy tunes have won her numerous invitations to perform throughout Nashville and beyond, her favorite being Puckett's of Leiper's Fork, Tennessee where she is a regular. Olivia has been a featured opener for Travis Tritt, Alabama, Mark Chesnutt and Paul Thorn. Joe Nichols has been around for over 20 years, which means he's got great stories. Like that time Mark Chesnutt confronted him in an elevator. Or the time he and Blake Shelton got too drunk to work. Plus, he makes an unassailable case for Keith Whitley in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Dreams -- the really BIG dreams that call to the deepest parts of our being -- never truly die, even if life delays them at times. Even when they are dormant and seem like nothing but a distant memory, they're still there...waiting.This week's guest is living proof that we can go after our dreams -- even if they've been silent for years.Josh Scott has always dreamed of a career in country music, and he pursued that dream years ago but never quite made it. Years passed and, as is often the case, life happened and his dream of making it in the music industry faded into memory. But the dream was still there...waiting quietly. An encounter at an Arizona bar with country music artist Ray Herndon -- which was the result of summoning up the courage to introduce himself to one of his heroes -- ultimately led Josh to walk away from his job as a dump truck driver to once again chase his dream of a career in music. That decision is paying off -- quickly.Just a few short months after that initial meeting with Ray Herndon, Josh has performed in front of large audiences as an opening act for country music legends like Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence, while releasing several singles like This Time, That Bottle, and Sell Me a Song.Within just a few minutes of listening to this entertaining conversation with this talented singer, song writer, and musician, we know you will be cheering him on as he chases his dreams and shows us by example that it is NEVER too late to make them come true. You can learn more about Josh at his website joshscottmusic.com and by following him on Instagram at @joshscottmusic .As always, if you receive any value from the Time To Grind Podcast, we would love for you to share it with your friends. Part 1 of 2What a great talk with the great Lee Kelley! Drummer for Hank Williams Jr.https://leekelleyondrums.com/Lee: I was born and raised in Concord, NC. We know everyone is going coo-coo right now, so why not throw a little extra content to ease the pains before you resort to the liquor cabinet? In this bonus episode, we discuss the only thing that matters during this time: showing your kids the importance of REAL movies, REAL music, and REAL video games. That means no Hollywood remakes, No mumble rap, and no Fortnite. As the internet is going wild and showing off how they are caring for their loved ones, we encourage you to go back in time and take a trip down the Nostalgic Boardwalk with your family. You're about to learn how terrible we (Aaron and Jimmy) imitate our favorite musicians. We focus on many things in our lives. Many of those things are not our passion. Felix Trueve has remedied this by going full time on his passion for country music. From Band Director to country music superstar, Felix has been able to surpass the politics involved with music and focus on motivating his audience by engaging with them. Felix has been able to rise in popularity by branding himself and taking up opportunities that highlight his talents. He has opened for George Strait, Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chesnutt and many more. His 90's sound has taken him to number twenty-two on the charts along with awards for best songwriter from Texas Country Music Association. http://felix.band/https://www.facebook.com/FelixTruverehttp://www.FelixTruvere.org/http://www.FelixTruvere.net/ ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
