This week's Mixtape Rewind takes us back to our new music mix from October 2022Taylor Swift dominated charts by claiming all top ten Billboard spots with her "Midnights" album – we explore "Mastermind," highlighting how her songwriting prowess continues to evolve while maintaining that distinctive Taylor sound. The musical whiplash continues as we bounce between genres. Flatland Cavalry's folksy "Mountain Song" transports listeners to peaceful natural landscapes, while Sam Smith and Kim Petras deliver the imposing, menacing "Unholy" that marks a dramatic departure from Smith's typical style. Rock veterans make strong showings with Smashing Pumpkins returning to their hard-edged roots on "Beguiled" and Red Hot Chili Peppers honoring guitar legend Eddie Van Halen with their extended six-minute tribute "Eddie."Our exploration reveals fascinating discoveries – from The 1975's "I'm In Love With You" (prompting us to admit we've overlooked their 20-year catalog) to emerging artist Jake Swamp and the Pine's nostalgic "Empty Stomachs and Bloodshot Eyes." We even find Bruce Springsteen covering Ben E. King on his upcoming Motown and soul covers album.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/new-music-october-2022/pl.u-mJy81vBINE8XR1q https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0BzHINFCB80bJQZAlwEiWu?si=18378ffac35a4bd5Mastermind by Taylor SwiftMountain Song by Flatland CavalryUnholy by Sam Smith & Kim PetrasFrancesca by WeezerLift Off by LabrinthI'm In Love With You by The 1975Beguiled by The Smashing PumpkinsEmpty Stomachs and Bloodshot Eyes by Jake Swamp and the PineEddie by Red Hot Chili PeppersStfu (feat Rick Nielsen) by Todd RundgrenElectricfy My Love by Mondo CozmoDon't Play That Song by Bruce SpringsteenSupport the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

ABOUT DYLAN At just 15, Dylan Rhys is already making waves as a standout in the next generation of Texas musicians. Embracing his musical passion from an early age, Dylan picked up guitar at nine, seamlessly integrating vocals shortly thereafter. It was during the early days of COVID-19 quarantine that he created his first stage by streaming his “Corona Concert Series: Live from the Driveway” for family and friends. In the summer of 2022, Dylan entered a months-long open mic competition hosted by Dosey Doe in The Woodlands, Texas, winning first place out of over 80 contestants spanning a wide range of ages and genres.  Opportunities to perform at local venues quickly followed, and he can now be found sharing his original music and a deep list of country covers throughout Central and Southeast Texas. Influenced by the likes of Shane Smith and the Saints, Flatland Cavalry and Turnpike Troubadours, and developing a sound similar to Dylan Gossett, Sam Barber and Wyatt Flores, Dylan strives to portray authenticity in his lyrics and sound. His youthful approach to songwriting and confident, charismatic stage presence have provided him the opportunity to open for national touring artists Jon Stork, Jesse Daniel, Matt Castillo, and Bailey Rae, and to share the stage in renowned venues such as Dosey Doe – The Big Barn and The Kenney Store. Currently in his freshman year, Dylan balances his music pursuits with a full course load of classes, is a lefty pitcher on the baseball team, and plays the double bass in his school's orchestra.  In his free time, he enjoys being a kid, soaking up life experiences to turn into future songs.  Look out for his first single debuting soon!

Time flies when you're having fun. Time moves excruciatingly slowly when you are sleep deprived and can't seem to get the baby down for a nap. What do these things have in common? They don't last forever. We are going to talk about just how fast things move when it comes to raising kids and why we hate the phrase "I miss those days." "It Won't Be Like This For Long" by Darius Rucker is the perfect song to describe this moment in time. Mentioned in This Episode: Yellowstone Caddyshack Kairos Moment Show Notes: 4:04 Dad Life Sound Check - The Series "Yellowstone" provides both parenting advice and music from Ryan Bingham. Flatland Cavalry makes Dave feel older than he is.   13:10 Farm Boy Update - Mick has a mole problem on the urban farmstead.  15:15 HARDY Report - "Quit!!" has Dave wanting to see HARDY perform live once again.  18:39 The Dads break down why "It Won't Be Like This For Long" is such a perfect summary of the fact that life changes faster than you think when it comes to raising kids. They also touch on the fact that when you are in the middle of it you aren't always the most receptive to hearing about how people miss it. His music combines the depth of a singer-songwriter with a fusion of Rock and Alternative genres, injecting a breath of fresh air into a scene often dominated by Country roots. With a powerful vocal range and a singing style influenced by icons like Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, and Layne Staley, Dylan Wheeler stands out as a truly unique and exceptional artist. His music defies categorization, appealing to a wide audience and fueling dreams of success. Currently living his dream, Dylan's future looks promising as he continues to make his mark in the industry. Hailing from Edgewood, Texas, he cut his teeth in small dive bars, following in the footsteps of his East Texas heroes. However, what sets Dylan apart is his ability to cultivate a dedicated fan base even before officially releasing his music.Through social media platforms like Twitter, Dylan garnered fans from all over by sharing acoustic videos of both original songs and covers. One of his videos, a rendition of the 90s country hit "Strawberry Wine," quickly gained over 100,000 views, providing a glimpse of his potential. This early fan base eagerly anticipated the release of his first EP, "Tell Me If I'm Wrong," in late 2018. The songs from this EP accumulated tens of thousands, and later hundreds of thousands, of streams, solidifying Dylan's destiny as a full-time musician. In 2019, Dylan made the life-changing decision to quit his job in the Oil & Gas industry and fully commit himself to music. Embracing this new path, his schedule filled up with bigger and better shows, frequent trips to Nashville for writing and recording, and continuous engagement with his growing fan base. Each new song released showcased his artistic growth, attracting new fans while further captivating his existing supporters.Within just a few years, Dylan's journey has transformed from receiving tens of thousands of views on acoustic videos to amassing tens of millions of streams across major platforms. He has transitioned from playing small dive bars to selling out major venues in his home state and beyond. However, Dylan sees himself as just beginning, believing that the sky's the limit. The first track's title, "It Won't Always Be This Way" was a statement that she and her mother would repeat during a particularly rough period of their lives. Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Cant Let GoZach Schmidt, Go My WayZach Schmidt, You're Still On My MindFlatland Cavalry, Gettin' ByThe Wild Feathers, Another Sunny DayTravis Linville, Yesterday's Wine (featuring Hayes Carll)Hayes Carll, She'll Come Back To MeConnie Smith, I Just Don't Believe Me AnymoreElijah Ocean, Honky Tonk HoleCharley Crockett, Music City USACharley Crockett, Muddy WaterShaela Miller, The Devil In YouTylor & the Train Robbers, Staring Down The NorthSin City, Things I Left BehindCharley Crockett, I Need Your Love Oye, visita nuestro Facebook y déjanos tus peticiones, comentarios, canciones... Flatland Cavalry, Country Is…Flatland Cavalry, A Cowboy Knows HowBen Mastwyk, Trouble's What I FoundBen Mastwyk, Facets of the DiamondHiss Golden Messenger, The Great MystifierHiss Golden Messenger, HardlytownFarmer Dave & The Wizards Of The West, Cave WallsFarmer Dave & The Wizards Of The West, Babe Got Plans (For Me)Ronnie Milsap, Big Bertha (feat. “You Can Go To Hell, I’m Going To Texas” es un tema compartido con la cantante y compositora tejana Vanessa Olivarez. No Ace In The Hole”. And Down” junto a Riley Green a Parker McCollum. Se trata de "Some Things Never Change".

Episode 141 is with The Panhandlers--the West Texas collaboration between songwriters Josh Abbott, William Clark Green, John Baumann, and Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry--who released their debut self-titled last Spring. As their namesake alludes, these songs are about the Panhandle of Texas and the greater West Texas area in general. As sons of The Panhandle and Far West Texas, their solo catalogs have often echoed the howling winds that drive Heaven and earth across the South Plains, the unrelenting sun that dries out cattle pastures and iron orchards of the rugged oil fields, and most importantly, the resilient folks who claim the Land of Big Sky home. The quartet understands them more than most due to their time working and living in the Hub City of Lubbock for long stretches of time. With The Panhandlers, they've written and recorded an album's worth of richly detailed vignettes and organic dust-blown ballads that celebrate their West Texas roots and heritage. During this interview, we talk about those West Texas roots, talk about the Blue Light songwriting culture, the works of Jerry Jeff Walker and Billy Joe Shaver, and hear a handful of stories about life in Lubbock. DittyTV's Insights | Artist Interviews

With their album, Homeland Insecurity, Texas' Flatland Cavalry wants to stop and smell the roses. Bandleader and chief lyricist Cleto Cordero is fine with examining and the present. There's an appreciation for all the sharp detail and high-spirited emotions of today. Flatland Cavalry—the aforementioned Cordero, guitarist Reid Dillon, bassist Jonathan Saenz, drummer Jason Albers, and newest member, fiddle player Wesley Hall—has been stretching their legs across the country this past year after honing their craft and voice in the music boomtown of Lubbock, Texas. Homeland Insecurity finds Flatland further evolving as musicians and storytellers.  Recorded April 2019 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"Come Back Down", es una invitación a volver a casa tras estar demasiado tiempo fuera. Before I jump in to my blog commentary about this episode I want to tell you about a new way you can support the podcast.  If you like what we’re doing here and want to contribute to our efforts to bring our listeners interviews with the very biggest names in Texas, Red Dirt, Country Music and Songwriting click HERE.  With your contributions we plan to offload the audio editing work that Carly now takes care of to an outside source.  If you find it in your heart to help me give Carly a great Christmas gift this year click HERE.  Thanks in advance! In this episode of the podcast we visit with singer-songwriter and front-man of Texas band, Flatland Cavalry, Cleto Cordero.  Having never met or talked to Cleto before this interview, the first thing that jumped out to me was just how genuine, humble and appreciative he is for his life and career in music. Cleto explains how his performance at a talent show when he was in his teens, and the reaction of his listeners, put him on the road to be a professional musician.  Even as Flatland Cavalry’s popularity continues to rise, Cleto’s ability to remain firmly grounded and humble is equally impressive. In the interview we also talk about his initial meeting and eventual romance with now-fiancé, singer-songwriter Kaitlin Butts. Cleto is also a part the west Texas all-star group, The Panhandlers assembled by Josh Abbott. So, without further ado, enjoy the episode!
