Timmy McKeever, growing up in Huntingon, California McKeever started his musical journey at age nine after hearing his third grade teacher play worship songs after class. That intrigued young Timmy so much that he picked up a beginner guitar they had lying around the house and started playing around. From there it blossomed into writing music and playing shows. “My whole childhood I would play 2-3 shows during the weekend and go to school during the week. Write music after class. I just fell in love with it” he shares. McKeever got offered a development deal with Jim Cantino over at Droptine Records. McKeever just released his debut album “Devils and Angels”, and it's been getting good feedback. “Devils in Angels is an album that follows all the aspects of love from the beginning to the end and the aftermath. All the highs and lows and in betweens. It's very personal to me because the title track was the first song I ever wrote where I thought this is something really special to me.” He adds that he saved the song for the past two years because he wanted it as the title track of his debut project. Diamond Rio restacks the harmony and dishes out the twang in their 1991 hit "Mirror, Mirror". Everyone's delivering blue notes on this one, but how do the lyrics and tonality suggest something darkly humorous about the singer's hardluck introspection? (Also, what exactly is the Mandela Effect?)

We have 90's country star, Bryan White, with us on this week's episode of Stories Behind the Songs! I've known Bryan for years - even before I met him, I was learning to play his songs on guitar to impress the girls in my college dorm. In this episode, we discuss some of his biggest songs including “Someone Else's Star” and “Rebecca Lynn” as well as the songs he's written for other big artists like Diamond Rio. We also talk about the challenge of writing uptempo when you're used to writing sad songs, crafting unlikely chord progressions and key changes, having a hit outside of the U.S., and duetting with the legend herself, Shania Twain. Bryan performs a snippet of his song, “Sittin' on Go” as well his personal favorite, “Dustbowl Dreams” which he wrote with Alan Shamblin, and he shares how this one reconnected him with his Oklahoma roots. If you enjoyed this episode of Stories Behind the Songs, make sure to share it with your friends and give us a follow. For the Truman Brothers, music and faith are in their DNA. Raised in Nashville, Tennessee as sons of Latter-day Saint musician, Dan Truman (of the Grammy-winning group Diamond Rio), they spent their formative years in green rooms and tour buses as well as sacrament meetings and early-morning Seminary classes. Despite their musical upbringing, the brothers didn't really begin making music together until attending BYU, where they won the campus-wide Battle of the Bands two years in a row. Now as recording artists signed to Shadow Mountain Records, the Truman Brothers draw on their unique background to create Spirit-filled music not just for Sundays—but for every day of the week. With its energetic, pop-driven anthems, their debut album Quiet Revolution landed in the Top 10 on the iTunes Christian chart. Their songs have earned three Praiseworthy Awards presented by the LDSPMA, including “Best Original Religious Song” for their song “Oh Child". In addition to their work as a duo, the brothers are also longtime members of the Nashville Tribute Band.https://www.trumanbrothers.comhttps://www.instagram.com/trumanbrothershttps://www.tiktok.com/@thetrumanbrothershttps://www.facebook.com/trumanbrothershttps://www.youtube.com/user/trumanbrothers

Kent Blazy is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His credits include several singles for Garth Brooks, as well as singles by Gary Morris, Diamond Rio, Patty Loveless and Chris Young. He has a total of seven number one hits to his credit. In 1982, Gary Morris took "Headed for a Heartache" to number 5 on the charts. In the years that followed other artists, such as The Forrester Sisters, T. Graham Brown, Donna Fargo and Moe Bandy recorded Kent's tunes. In 1987, Kent was introduced to a new demo singer by Bob Doyle, then with ASCAP, soon to be the manager for this emerging talent, Garth Brooks. Garth became Kent's most requested demo singer and Bob Doyle also advised, “Garth writes a little bit too.” The first song Garth and Kent penned together was "If Tomorrow Never Comes" which became the first number one song for both. The friendship and writing partnership continued as Garth included eight more of their songs on his albums. Four more of theirs songs captured the number one slot: "Somewhere Other Than the Night", "Ain't Goin' Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)", "It's Midnight Cinderella", and "She's Gonna Make It.” Brooks continued to record Blazy's material throughout the 1990s, including the singles “Cold Shoulder” and the George Jones duet “Beer Run (B Double E Double Are You In?).” He also co-wrote “That's What I Get for Lovin' You” by Diamond Rio and “Can't Get Enough” by Patty Loveless in the late 1990s. Kent's songwriting continues with established writing partnerships, as well as developing partnerships with new writers and artists. Many of his crafted works continue to be recorded by artists such as Diamond Rio, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Clay Walker, Patty Loveless, Julie Roberts, Andy Griggs and Blaine Larsen, a new recording artist on RCA. Kent's latest #1 hit is Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song), recorded by Chris Young. Kent also has the title track on Reba's latest CD "All The Women I Am" It's also the name of her tour, tv special and her exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Also, look for Kent's latest cuts from Randy Houser "The Power of a Song" on Randy's latest CD. And "Empty Beer Cans" on Jon Pardi's album "Write You A Song". The C.L.I.M.B. "Nashville Recording Artist Singer/Songwriter Lee Newton, came from humble beginnings. Having seen her share of hard times growing upa small town in Western North Carolina, she started singing in church when she was five years old when her Mother would take her. Lee's love of music grew as a child when her Daddy played country classics like Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline around the house. Lee's father, a cab driver, taught her to play the guitar at age seven and they would sing together while she rode around town with him in his taxi going on calls. “My Daddy, who named me Brenda Lee after the amazing country singer, would always tell me one day you will be playing at the Grand Ole Opry and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a performer.” Heavily influenced by legendary musicians like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, The Judds Lorrie Morgan Susan Tedischi and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lee's personal sound is a mix between traditional Country and raspy Blues with an added Southern Rock flare. When Lee was 20 years old, she joined a couple of bands and taught herself to play the drums. She travelled to New York City and had the privilege of singing backup for Artimus Pyle, Leslie Hawkins and JoJo Billingsly – three original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. In 2020, Lee won “Vocalist of the Year” at the Josie Music Awards. Her 2021 EP Undamaged, which she wrote, won “EP Album of the year” at Josie Music Awards and also Top 20 Best of 2021 for Women of Country. Lee's newest full length album UNLEESHED, was released April, 2022. Lee wrote 9 of the songs on it. She won “Album of the year” at the Josie Music Awards show that was held at The Grand Ole Opry. She also was nominated for Song of the year with Carolina, and Artist of the year for Women of Country Best of 2022. UNLEESHED has artist Leona Williams, Pam Tillis, Lee Roy Parnell, Mike Rogers & Tim Watson appear on it. Lee has opened or performed with legends Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap, Ronnie McDowell, T Graham Brown, Diamond Rio, The Gatlin Brothers, TG Sheppard, Edwin McCain, Leona Williams, Lee Roy Parnell, Rhonda Vincent & more." (Bio provided by: https://leenewtonofficial.com/) This storyteller is one that you do not want to miss. Be on the lookout for some new music, tour dates, and special announcements! When Michael and Rob (Varnish Media) set out build this podcast, the alliterative "Michael in the Middle" just had a nice ring to it. Now the phrase has become a working brand and a way of life. As Season 2 begins with Episode 41, Michael takes a look back at some significant excerpts from five of the episodes shared in the last half of the inaugural year. A doctor, a couple of preachers, a couple of singers, a songwriter, and a play-by-play college football announcer each demonstrate a commitment to excellence and a commitment to love. With our world spinning outwardly and away from each other, maybe Diamond Rio had it right again with "we gain a lot of ground when we both give a little... Ain't no road too long when we meet in the middle."
The Doc invites Jimmy Olander of the fantastic group Diamond Rio on the show! The two talk about the new members of the group, working out on tour, trail running, the first hit single Meet Me In The Middle, doing an Eagles tribute album, and recording the new single "The Kick".
