On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by singer/songwriter's Amanda Kate and Riley Braker!AMANDA KATEBorn in a no-stop-light-town in Red River, NM, Amanda Kate Ferris grew up equally inspired by her small-town upbringing and her mother, Kathy Wright, an artist and entertainer herself. As one of the original “Dean Martin Golddiggers” on the 1960's TV show, 18-year-old Kathy often collaborated with The Rat Pack's crooners, embracing the era's glamour. The apple didn't fall far from the tree, and young Amanda was singing as early as two years old. Inspired by her mother's tales of performing on the stage and screen, she developed her own voice in the church. Amanda added songwriting to her repertoire at age 14, looking again to follow in her mother's footsteps as a full-time musician and artist. During her mother's long sets at Honky Tonks between California, New Mexico, and Texas, Amanda fell in love with the music of The Judds, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Leanne Womack, and Brooks & Dunn, all of which heavily influenced her current sound. Her love of Country music led her to chase her dreams in Nashville. Over the next few years, she went through multiple groups, opportunities, and countless hours spent on her craft in Music City. On the brink of letting these long sought-after dreams go, Amanda decided that she needed a change of pace and settled in with her family. After she and her husband welcomed their first child, Amanda was back on stage, this time performing Carrie Underwood songs in a national touring cover band, Blown Away. Their incredible renditions of Underwood's hits led to an unsolicited and highly coveted spot on Executive Producer Jimmy Fallon's new show for E!, “Clash of the Cover Bands.” Through Underwood's iconic songs, Amanda was able to fulfill her love of entertaining and singing, but she felt a calling to again create her own original music. The show was a full circle moment for Ferris, appearing on the same network that gave her mother her start over 50 years ago. Off-screen, this allowed Amanda the opportunity to highlight her new original music, simultaneously releasing her self-titled EP to rave reviews, including editorial placement on Spotify's Texas Country Now, the largest Red Dirt Playlist. In early 2022, Ferris' love for traditional Country sparked the interest of renowned producer Jimmy Ritchey (Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt), with whom she recorded five new tracks reminiscent of the traditional country stylings of Ferris' favorites from the 90s. Look out this fall for “Baby Don't,” Ferris' debut on Texas radio. “Baby Don't” honors her Texas Country roots and showcases her captivating vocals. This lead single will be followed by an EP in early 2023 to reflect upon her western influences and love of Country music history. A cowgirl at heart, she spends any free time riding her horses with her family at Rockin R Ranch in Palmer, TX. On the road, Amanda has graced the stage with such acts as Tracey Lawrence, Bailey Zimmerman, Deana Carter, Warren Zeiders, Chase Rice, Priscilla Block, Casey Donahew, Josh Abbott Band, and more. RILEY BRAKERRiley is a gifted singer-songwriter, with a voice tailor made to tell her heartfelt stories of life as a young adult. She crafts her tales of love, woe, and regret, and infuses her characters with so much life, the listener feels as if they are experiencing the events first handy
The Josh Abbott Band will be in concert this Thursday September 7th at Barrelhouse Brewing!
Neil Medley is one of the very first guys I met when I moved to Nashville about 20 years ago. Originally from Louisville, KY, he started his career in marketing but about 13 years ago he decided to go full time into songwriting. In this episode you're going to hear about that transition and how that move led him quickly to his first album cut with Luke Bryan. You'll hear about the songs he wrote after that like "Wasn't That Drunk" for the Josh Abbott Band that featured Carly Pearce as her first radio release. You'll hear about other songs he wrote for Kid Rock, Lindsay Ell, Jason Aldean and Tyler Farr along with his first #1 "Made For You" that he wrote with Benjy Davis and Joey Hyde for Jake Owen. Other than his songwriting success, I remember sitting in his back music room when I first moved to town and we would pass the guitar around. His voice was always really unique and special to me and I'm so excited about a new project he has coming up! He sent me a sneak peak of a new album he has written for himself, with him on vocals, just before we recorded this episode. It's so good and it's such a special album to Neil. Be looking for that album, called "South End Kid" coming out on September 29, 2023. Neil says he doesn't want to be blown away by the speakers, he wants to be pulled into them and that's exactly what this record was like for me. By the way, if you're around the Nashville, TN area at the end of September, Neil will be playing and promoting that record at The Listening Room on September 28. You'll hear more about the making of that project, his take on male/female ratio on radio and more in this episode. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did capturing a little bit of his story for you all. Let us know! His music combines the depth of a singer-songwriter with a fusion of Rock and Alternative genres, injecting a breath of fresh air into a scene often dominated by Country roots. With a powerful vocal range and a singing style influenced by icons like Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, and Layne Staley, Dylan Wheeler stands out as a truly unique and exceptional artist. His music defies categorization, appealing to a wide audience and fueling dreams of success. Currently living his dream, Dylan's future looks promising as he continues to make his mark in the industry. Hailing from Edgewood, Texas, he cut his teeth in small dive bars, following in the footsteps of his East Texas heroes. However, what sets Dylan apart is his ability to cultivate a dedicated fan base even before officially releasing his music.Through social media platforms like Twitter, Dylan garnered fans from all over by sharing acoustic videos of both original songs and covers. One of his videos, a rendition of the 90s country hit "Strawberry Wine," quickly gained over 100,000 views, providing a glimpse of his potential. This early fan base eagerly anticipated the release of his first EP, "Tell Me If I'm Wrong," in late 2018. The songs from this EP accumulated tens of thousands, and later hundreds of thousands, of streams, solidifying Dylan's destiny as a full-time musician. In 2019, Dylan made the life-changing decision to quit his job in the Oil & Gas industry and fully commit himself to music. Embracing this new path, his schedule filled up with bigger and better shows, frequent trips to Nashville for writing and recording, and continuous engagement with his growing fan base. Each new song released showcased his artistic growth, attracting new fans while further captivating his existing supporters.Within just a few years, Dylan's journey has transformed from receiving tens of thousands of views on acoustic videos to amassing tens of millions of streams across major platforms. He has transitioned from playing small dive bars to selling out major venues in his home state and beyond. However, Dylan sees himself as just beginning, believing that the sky's the limit. Inspired by idols such as John Mayer, Rob Thomas, and John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, Joe's sound is influenced by the alternative rock of the late '90s and early 2000s. Growing up in a music household, Joe has always been awed by the ability to create sounds with instruments. “Music is almost like a portal into another dimension. It takes me to another place where I'm not thinking about anything else but the song.” Haydel moved to Nashville in January of 2020 with nothing but a plan and ambition to fully commit to music. As Joe describes it “for me it's music or bust.” A year later, Joe inked his first pub deal with Wide Open Music, landed his first outside cut “Even Now” on artist, Chase Bryant, and his own opening slot on Aaron Lewis' Frayed At Both Ends tour. For Joe, no feeling can describe connecting with another person on a musical level. This is just the beginning for Joe, he is excited for what the future holds and cannot wait to share the new music he's been working on very soon.******Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville is streamed live every Sunday night 8pm ET/ 5pm PT on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
