Charles Wesley Godwin is a country music artist and songwriter born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia. He first discovered his passion for music in college, picking up a guitar after realizing his WVU football dreams weren't going to pan out and watching the Avett Brothers perform at the 2011 Grammys. He spent years developing his sound by playing small bars, cafes, and breweries across the country—often sleeping in his car—before breaking through with his independent 2019 debut album, Seneca. He is currently signed to Big Loud and Warner Chappell, and following the success of albums like How the Mighty Fall and Family Ties, he is preparing to release his newest record, Christian Name, on July 24th. In this episode, we discuss Charles's journey from playing his very first paid gig at a lingerie show in Estonia to building a nationwide audience. We dig into his early years trusting the tip jar on the road, the freezing winter studio sessions that shaped Seneca, navigating the pressures of the music business, and the night he almost quit music entirely. We also talk about why he considers songwriting to be his true creative high, his five-year wait to co-write with Lori McKenna, and many other stops along the way.--------------------------------------------------This episode is also sponsored by The Graphic Guitar Guys. THE TROUBADOUR PODCAST - The Premier Red Dirt, Texas Country and Independent Music Podcast

In this episode of The Troubadour Podcast, hosts Jared Pete Gile and Carly Evans sit down for a candid, long-form conversation with Texas Red Dirt standout William Clark Green about his deeply personal seventh studio album, Watterson Hall. Released in March 2026 on Bill Grease Records and produced by Logan Wall, the 14-track record marks a mature evolution in Green's songwriting, drawing from his life as a husband and father while exploring themes of family, love, loss, and resilience across standout cuts like the title track "Watterson Hall (Me & You)," "Whole Lotta Lubbock," "Where The Wild Things Are," and "Stubborn and Remains."   Green opens up about stepping outside his usual lane, including powerful co-writes with Travis Meadows (notably on "Stubborn and Remains" and "I Am the Kite"), as well as collaborations with Gary Stanton, Sean McConnell, and others, plus the real-life dancehall inspiration behind the project's heartfelt core. The conversation also shines a light on Green's passion for giving back through Cotton Fest—the annual three-day country music festival he founded in Lubbock, Texas (taking place June 25-27, 2026 at Cook's Garage with a stacked lineup including Flatland Cavalry, 49 Winchester, Josh Abbott Band, and more)—and the High Cotton Relief Fund, the 501(c)(3) he helped establish in 2018 to support West Texas cotton farmers and their families facing hardships like medical bills, funeral costs, and farm needs. This week on Hey Amarillo, we sit down with Dr. Gabe Hanson for a conversation that truly spans two worlds. Gabe is an emergency room physician — and he was also the guitarist for the super successful Texas country band, the Josh Abbott Band. We talk about what it's like to be part of a band just as it's really taking off, the decision to step away at the height of momentum, and the very real, very human experience of working on the front lines of emergency medicine. Gabe is funny, deeply honest, and refreshingly self-aware about both what he loves and what challenges him. His convictions are strong, his perspective is grounded, and this conversation moves easily between music, medicine, purpose, and what it means to choose a life that aligns with who you really are.

Neil Medley is one of the very first guys I met when I moved to Nashville about 20 years ago. Originally from Louisville, KY, he started his career in marketing but about 13 years ago he decided to go full time into songwriting. In this episode you're going to hear about that transition and how that move led him quickly to his first album cut with Luke Bryan. You'll hear about the songs he wrote after that like "Wasn't That Drunk" for the Josh Abbott Band that featured Carly Pearce as her first radio release. You'll hear about other songs he wrote for Kid Rock, Lindsay Ell, Jason Aldean and Tyler Farr along with his first #1 "Made For You" that he wrote with Benjy Davis and Joey Hyde for Jake Owen. Other than his songwriting success, I remember sitting in his back music room when I first moved to town and we would pass the guitar around. His voice was always really unique and special to me and I'm so excited about a new project he has coming up! He sent me a sneak peak of a new album he has written for himself, with him on vocals, just before we recorded this episode. It's so good and it's such a special album to Neil. Be looking for that album, called "South End Kid" coming out on September 29, 2023. Neil says he doesn't want to be blown away by the speakers, he wants to be pulled into them and that's exactly what this record was like for me. By the way, if you're around the Nashville, TN area at the end of September, Neil will be playing and promoting that record at The Listening Room on September 28. You'll hear more about the making of that project, his take on male/female ratio on radio and more in this episode. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did capturing a little bit of his story for you all. Let us know!
