We've all heard about the importance of getting a balanced diet, but some people choose to ignore that advice completely, and those following the carnivore diet are a prime example. As you may have guessed from its name, the carnivore diet involves eating almost exclusively meat, sometimes raw, sometimes cooked, and might also include fish. Healthline.com says that “other animal foods like eggs and certain dairy products” are sometimes also eaten. Are there any benefits? How did such a sketchy diet become popular? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: Can you eat eggs everyday? Most of us are familiar with the idea that you need to take 10 thousand steps per day to stay healthy but getting to this magic number is not that easy. The 10,000-step target first became popular in Japan in the 1960s. A clockmaker capitalising on people's new interest in fitness following the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games made a pedometer with a name that, when written in Japanese characters, resembled a walking man and coincidentally translated as “10,000-steps metre.” A study of over 78,000 people in the UK between 2013 and 2015 using wearable trackers was published in the journals JAMA Internal Medicine and JAMA Neurology. Where did we get the number 10 thousand from? Does that mean that we do not need to take 10 steps? So how many steps should I be aiming for per day? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! As we enter 2023, we're desperately looking for ways to combat human-induced climate change. It's a worthy cause, but it's clear that some irreversible effects have already happened, and that will continue for some time. So it would be foolish not to prepare for the reality of living on a planet which has undergone significant warming. There's relatively little known about how our bodies will react, which is why France's Human Adaptation Institute set up three Deep Climate expeditions to take place between December 2022 and June 2023. The project will help researchers understand better how the human body adapts to intense conditions. A team of 20 volunteer “climatonauts” with no field experience will be accompanied by explorer and project organiser Christian Clot. What goes on during the expeditions? What bodily functions do we have to deal with climate change? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Do You Really Know talks about love for Valentine's Day on February 14th! To understand everything about love relationships and current dating methods, we decipher together the new concepts that make love today. You've no doubt heard that certain foods can increase desire, or even improve sexual performance. Oysters, ginger, chocolate and strawberries are just a few examples of foods that supposedly have that magical effect. They're labelled aphrodisiacs, a word which comes from the name of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. There are very few scientific studies out there to back that belief up. In people who have blood circulation issues, some foods can have the same effect as Viagra, which relaxes the blood vessels and thereby improves blood flow to the genitals. Can food really have an impact on our level of sexual desire? What about alcohol? So why do people keep talking about aphrodisiacs if they don't really work? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: What is Calimero syndrome? So there's a new trend floating around TikTok where girls are saying, "I'm a lucky girl, everything works out for me," and you know I'm here for it. I've talked about affirmations plenty of times on the Go Girl podcast so of course I was excited to see this mantra trending on the social media platform. I Am are two of the most powerful words and what you say after shapes your reality. I always encourage you to speak kindly to yourself; it matters! Positive affirmations are statements or phrases that are designed to be repeated to oneself as a way to promote positive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. That's why I encourage you to incorporate affirmations into your daily routine. Listen in as I talk about the Lucky Girl Syndrome, and I'll share the difference between the Law of Assumption and the Law of Attraction. It's a common habit to toss our jeans into the laundry after a single wear, but is that really necessary? Turns out, giving your denim a break from frequent washes might be a smarter move. Well, according to Medisite, washing isn't always kind to your beloved blues. The key to maintaining your denim's durability is a cooler, gentler approach: wash them inside out, at a low temperature, and with a soft spin cycle. As for drying, skip the tumble dryer to prevent shrinking and warping—air drying on a rack, upside down, is the way to go. And ironing? Best to avoid it to keep those fibres intact. Does this mean you should never wash your jeans? But really, how practical is this advice? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Now if you've never heard the word fap before, let me spell it out to you. It's basically an onomatopoeic slang term for male masturbation. According to Business Insider, the term first appeared in a web comic called Sexy Losers in 1999, to indicate the sound of a male character masturbating. An Urban Dictionary definition for the term was then added in 2002, and usage grew from the 2000s onwards. So obviously now you know what that means, you'll have realised that the no fap movement means quitting masturbation. And while masturbation is a pleasurable activity for many, the no fap movement against it has been gaining traction for about a decade now. It started out in the U.S. and the aim is to combat porn addiction and masturbation. Why do all these men want to stop masturbating? Are any of those claims true? What should someone do if they feel addicted to masturbation then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: Can you eat eggs everyday? Ever wondered if that quirky skill of yours is a talent or just plain odd? We kick off with a hilarious debate on Emily's knack for sound effects that'll have you questioning your own hidden "disorders"! We're getting mystical with the I Ching, exploring the powerful symbolism of the "returning" card—think earth-shattering action and joyous rebellion. Lisa sheds light on pivotal moments of change, like the winter solstice, urging us to let go of the old and embrace the new. Meanwhile, Emily takes a deep dive into the metaphorical divorces in our lives, breaking ties with outdated thoughts and patterns.Join us as we navigate the delicate dance of "youthful folly," where eagerness meets wisdom, and learn how to flow with life's seasons without overdoing it. We'll also tackle the fusion of masculine and feminine energies, the distinction between force and power, and the art of heeding life's signs and synchronicities.Don't miss out on our community stories in the Conscious Collaboration Collective on Facebook, and be sure to engage with us on social media! As TikTok has taken over the world of social media throughout the last few years, many psychological trends have become increasingly popular, and could be more harmful than helpful. Glowing up, bed rotting, and lucky girl syndrome are only three of the harmful effects the so-called "psychological help" on TikTok and other outlets can bring - and we have a fantastic expert here today on SelfWork to discuss them. Dr. Sanam Hafeez is an NYC based licensed clinical psychologist, and the founder and Clinical Director of Comprehensive Consultation Psychological Services, P.C. a neuropsychological, developmental and educational center in Manhattan and Queens. Dr. Hafeez masterfully applies her years of experience connecting psychological implications to address some of today's common issues such as body image, social media addiction, relationships, workplace stress, parenting and psychopathology, and often shares her credible expertise to various news outlets in New York City and frequently appears on CNN and Dr.Oz.
