Acne is one of the most mentally taxing physical struggles out there. We're talking about your face. The thing everyone sees when they, well, see you. Today's guest, Katie Stewart, knows all about this. Katie started developing adult acne from coming off of birth control while she was smack dab in the middle of a film + tv career. Yeah, not ideal. Being on camera all day while feeling insecure about her skin, Katie decided to take matters into her own hands and heal herself from the inside out. Now, Katie is leading a movement - using functional health testing + nutrition to help her clients heal acne from the inside out. On today's show, we're diving into all things skin from the holistic and functional lens, with a special emphasis on the unique challenges high-performing (and therefore... high stress) women face when it comes to skin health and acne. 35. Katie Stewart: 25 Years of Doubt and Confusion; Finally Finding Answers Warning: This episode is explicit and is not suitable for children or those who are particularly sensitive to the topic of rape and the associated terminology. Please use discretion when listening to thie episode. Rape trauma is an incredibly distressing experience that can have profound effects on a person's memory, emotional well-being, and overall sense of self. One of the common consequences of such trauma is memory loss, where survivors may struggle to remember specific details of the assault due to the brain's natural defense mechanism of dissociation. Bessel van der Kolk, a renowned trauma researcher and psychiatrist, has extensively studied the profound impact of trauma on individuals, including the severe consequences of rape trauma. His research has shed light on the phenomenon of memory loss in survivors of sexual assault, where the trauma can be so severe that it leads to a total loss of memory regarding the rape itself. Such was the case of this week's guest, Katie Stewart. Now in her 40's, Katie was gang raped at age 19. The impact of that heinous act was so devastating to Katie, that for the next 25 years, Katie had only fragmentary memories of the summer events that happened after the rape, and intrusive flashbacks that made her question what really happened. Van der Kolk's research emphasizes that memory loss in rape survivors should not be interpreted as evidence of fabrication or falsehood. Instead, it highlights the complex and adaptive nature of the brain's response to trauma. The memory loss is a manifestation of the brain's attempt to shield the individual from the overwhelming pain and distress associated with the traumatic event. It was through counseling, for unrelated personal issues, that Katie started having flashback memories of the horrific experience she suffered. This, in turn, led to her eventual piecing together some of the puzzle that she is now working through to discover healing and a new perspective on life. Understanding the mechanisms behind memory loss in rape trauma is crucial for validating survivors' experiences and dispelling misconceptions. Van der Kolk's research contributes to a broader understanding of the psychological impact of sexual assault and underscores the need for trauma-informed approaches to support survivors, like Katie, in their healing journey. By recognizing the complexity of trauma and memory, we can foster empathy, provide appropriate care, and empower survivors like Katie to reclaim their lives. And this story is a prime example of why we should all Start by Believing. Give Katie's episode your close attention; it may have keys to unlocking some of your questions about the devastation of rape and sexual assault. Please share this episode with everyone you know. And also, please do your part to help bring justice to victims and survivors of rape and sexual assault. https://saprea.org https://www.instagram.com/cieralancaster/

Oooh, it's Friday, it's 5pm in Texas, and today, Dan is joined by perhaps the only educator that could possibly drag me back into a classroom, it's Richard Firth-Godbehere, on loan from the Non-Prophets! Dan and the good doctor discuss his work and his book before we start taking your calls. Our Patron of the Week this week is Katie Stewart! Thanks for the support Katie, even if you do eat bugs for breakfast! From the Great White North comes Jasmine! In the vein of our discussion of emotion thus far, she wants to talk about how religions use fear and hell. Dan and Rich talk about why the concept of hell doesn't make logical sense, but let's be real, emotions don't always have to. Our hosts discuss the pitfalls of letting go of indoctrination, and remind Jasmine that it's ok to be scared of something you know isn't real!Another Canadian? You betcha! Daniel's back! Diving back in, Daniel alleges that the NASA interactive camera tool that allowed users to pan around the Martian landscape seems to now omit the section that showed the evidence for Martian insectoids. Our hosts are skeptical that NASA would allow and subsequently delete evidence of alien life, past government gaffes notwithstanding, paredolia still seems a more likely explanation.Next up is Coyote Boy, love the name! He asks Rich to quantify what “counts” as a discrete emotion, and Rich talks about how our understanding is still evolving. This is right down the good Doctor's alley, and we get a crash course on his life's work.Jamie's in Texas, who offers circumcision as a great example of how church/state separation can come into conflict with personal freedoms. Dan offers his opinion on navigating these tricky waters, and Richard points out that consent is what's important here. A JW can refuse a blood transfusion, an infant can't refuse genital mutilation. That's the show this week folks! Join us next time, and keep wanting the truth!
This week, listeners ask Dr. Katie Stewart their questions about mental health in their daily lives. Questions range from workplace stress, friendships with those who have differing viewpoints, and the recent uptick in ADHD diagnoses in adults. Before we get to Dr. Katie, Sarah and Amy are back with their lost banter of 2021. “Amy's First” and “Lyft-overs with Sarah” are making a come back as well! We know you missed it! Skin health is more than skin deep! In today's episode, we are joined by acne nutritionist and health influencer, Katie Stewart, who, after overcoming her own struggles with acne, is now on a mission to help others do the same. A common response to acne is to treat it with topical skin products, but these don't get to the root cause of the problem, and, for various reasons which Katie explains, can often make it worse. Instead, we need to look after our insides, because the health of our gut and our liver is directly correlated with the health of our skin. There are numerous internal causes of the external break-outs that so many people experience, and it's important that you figure out what is going on in your body specifically before you decide to go on a juice cleanse or take a probiotic that was recommended by a friend. Stress is another major cause of skin problems, and learning how to set boundaries is also a vital part of healing from the inside out. Key Points From This Episode:Katie's personal experience with acne. The lightbulb moment when Katie realized acne was a symptom, and what she did about it.Examples of gut health issues that can cause skin problems. How to determine if you have low stomach acid, and ways that you can increase it. An explanation of what small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is. Toxins that we apply to our skin, and how these impact our liver. What happens to our skin when we take supplements without opening up elimination pathways. Foods that will help your liver, and therefore help your skin. The connection between your gut, your liver, and your hormones. How stress affects your skin.Another reason to add to the list of why sleep is so important. Numerous reasons that you should not pop your pimples, and what to do instead.A database you can use to work out the toxicity levels of your skincare products.Instead of buying expensive products, work with an acne specialist. The age range of the clients who Katie sees. Recommendations for people who are struggling with psoriasis. Women In Horror Month is a perfect time for a visit from an award winning actress named Katie Stewart. She's been in some great indie horror, action and dramatic films, but took it to another level with her performance in the film Intrusion: Disconnected. Katie visited us on the Steve & Crypto Show, alongside the writer of Intrusion: Disconnected, Craig Everett Earl. Katie and Craig give us the scoop on the film, which is available on Amazon (with wide distribution plans soon), including some great behind the scenes stories from set, and some insight as to how much heart and soul went into making the film. The movie itself is a slasher that shows the impact of a person being pushed to their mental limits, and what happens when that threshold is finally crossed. Katie Stewart's performance and flair for drama along with a unique story from Craig Everett Earl make Intrusion: Disconnected a very enjoyable and sometimes startling horror flick worth checking out! We enjoyed it, as much as we enjoyed having Katie and Craig on the Steve & Crypto Show! Listen! Subscribe! Share! The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) for Defense Industrial Base (DIB) suppliers defines specific cybersecurity practices across five levels of maturity while also measuring the degree to which those practices are institutionalized within an organization. The CMMC model draws on maturity processes and cybersecurity best practices from multiple standards, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) frameworks and references, as well as input from DIB entities and the Department of Defense. CMMC requires that DIB organizations complete an assessment of all CMMC practices at a particular level and become certified by a CMMC third-party assessment organization. When fully implemented, CMMC will require all DIB companies to achieve certification at one of the five CMMC levels, which includes both technical security practices and maturity processes. In this SEI Podcast, Andrew Hoover and Katie Stewart, researchers at the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute and architects of the model, discuss the CMMC assessment guides, how they were developed, and how they can be used.

We hear the origin story of the project and its aim to explore ways of documenting ordinariness in which one could develop concepts based on descriptions. We turn from there to Katie and Lauren’s different writing styles, affectography vs. ethnography, and the magic of shortness. Our guests discuss whether there is a new critical and collaborative ethics afoot in the human sciences today and muse on the intimacy of misrecognition. We talk about their new series at Duke UP, “Writing Matters”, and how they came to the idea for the unusual index and reference sections of the book. Finally, we close with their advice to scholars just starting out on fostering collaborations and talk about importance of building trust and why there’s nothing better than good brainstorming.

When the fall season starts to arrive it means several things to me. It mean the days and nights get cooler, Halloween and it is time for Scarefest. Scarefest is held in Lexington, Ky each fall. One of the main reasons I love attending this show so much is because one of my favorite actresses always attends, Tucky Williams. Tucky is from Kentucky and started out as a meteorologist at a local tv station. She then appeared in several locally produced independent films and last year started he web series Girl/Girl Scene. It has become a Scarefest tradition for us to interview her for this website. For two years stright Tuckys interviews have been some of the most listened to interviews I have done. In fact they have been second only to Elvira. This year I have a special treat for fans of Girl/Girl Scene. Not only do I have a new interview with Tucky, but I also have an interview with Katie Stewart, Lauren Virginia Albert and Abisha Uhl who is also the lead singer of the band Sick Of Sarah. I really hope you all enjoy these interviews as much as I did doing them!!!
