Hour 1 Drew Lock and the Seattle Seahawks beat the Eagles last night 20-17, handing the Eagles their third straight loss. This gives an opportunity to the Detroit Lions to get the 2-seed in the NFC. We also talked about the Knicks beating the Lakers. We talked about Evan Fournier just sitting on the bench all the time. There are rumors that Donovan Mitchell could be available again. Boomer said the Knicks need a Center. Rob Saleh was asked about Aaron Rodgers again and Gio wonders why Saleh can't just shut down all of the talk about him returning. Boomer thinks there's some sort of financial deal between Rodgers and the doctor and place that performed the surgery. Gio thinks maybe Rodgers tells McAfee today, ‘see you on Christmas eve'. ‘The day before Jesus was born, Football Jesus will take the field'- that's what Gio is hoping he says today. Peter Schwartz is in for Jerry and is here for his first update, but first, Peter tells us about some trouble he got into at Costco. Rob Saleh addressed the various reports about Zach's injury. Tommy DeVito will start again as Brian Daboll said, ‘he's earned it'. Peter has the call of the Seahawks TD that put them ahead with :28 seconds left to beat the Eagles. After the game, Drew Lock was emotional. Shannon Sharpe talked about a woman passing gas while they were being intimate. In the final segment of the hour, Zach Wilson's Mom, Lisa, took to Instagram to say Zach didn't want to come out of the game but had blurry vision.  Hour 2 Rashard Mendenhall is in the news. He is the former Steelers player that used to stand naked in the locker room next to Gio as he attempted to interview players. He's ‘sick of average white guys commenting about football'. He also wants to replace the Pro Bowl with an all-black vs all-white game. When we killed Osama Bin Laden, he tweeted about only hearing one side of the story with him. Boomer thinks if the Jets keep playing like they've been playing, somebody's getting fired. Joe Benigno wants Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum back. Peter returns for an update but first we talked about Schwartzy The Snowman from Friday night's live show. Rob Saleh talked about the process on whether Aaron Rodgers will be activated. Joe Benigno was on with Evan and Tiki and wants Mike Tomlin or Rex Ryan as the next Jets Head Coach. We also talked about fast food with Peter. He gets Burger King coupons in the Sunday paper. He also told us when he had his bachelor party at the Staten Island Yankees, they offered to get strippers for the suite. In the final segment of the hour, a guy claims that Little Boomer tried to fight him a few years ago when he was being a Donald Trump impersonator.  Hour 3 Tommy DeVito is embroiled in a feud with a pizza place in NJ. He was scheduled to sign autographs there for a fee of $10K, but the agent changed it to $20K. Gio thinks the pizza place should have kept this quiet. There was no signed contract, but there were text messages back and forth about the price for the appearance. This week DeVito is going up against the Eagles and they put up points, something the Giants don't do a lot of. Boomer wants him to stop doing appearances and focus on playing these next few weeks. Gio can't believe Phil Simms went back to the lady glasses this past Sunday. Gio wants us to rank the smartest in order: Gio, Evan, BT, Sal and Morash. Fleigs has BT as the smartest. Al put Evan as smartest. Peter returns for an update and tells us his death row meal is a pizza burger. Peter doesn't know what veal is. He thinks it's ‘fake chicken'. Had no idea what type of animal it was. Rob Saleh is not going to talk about Aaron Rodgers playing until he's officially cleared. The Seahawks beat the Eagles 20-17 with Drew Lock at QB and he was very emotional after the game. Boomer said the Detroit Lions can go and get the number two seed now. The Knicks beat the Lakers in LA. In the final segment of the hour, Emily Ratajkowski left the Knicks game early and they don't want to give her free tickets anymore. They also felt she was rooting for Miami.  Hour 4 Tom Brady said quarterbacks are more responsible for injuries to wide receivers than defensive backs are since they are putting their teammates in terrible positions. He said we need better quarterback play. Boomer said Tom Brady was the best at putting the ball in places to keep his receivers safe. Gio called the Lions a ‘cute story' but it will be a bloodbath if they have to go into San Francisco. Peter returns for a final update but first we quiz him about various foods. Gio said he feels like he's on, ‘Kids Say The Darndest Things'. The Moment of The Day involves Peter's bachelor party at a Staten Island Yankees game. In the final segment of the show, a Seahawks staffer got into it with AJ Brown on the sideline. Gio worked the sideline for Pitt football for a few years and said he couldn't imagine getting involved with a player in any sort of sideline fracas. Mayor Adams had a very bizarre comment about New York and a plane crashing into the World Trade Center.

Today we are joined by Dr. Lindsay Krasnoff, who is an historian, specializing in global sport, communications and diplomacy. She is also the Director of FranceandUS, and she lectures on sports diplomacy at New York University Tisch Institute of Global Sport. We met to talk about her most recent book: Basketball Empire: France and the Making of a Global NBA and WNBA (Bloomsbury, 2023). In our conversation, we discussed the rise of basketball in France, the differences between French and American basketball, and the way that French basketball stars such as Boris Diaw exemplify the new global “empire” of basketball that incorporates Africa, France and its overseas departments, and the USA. Krasnoff divides Basketball Empire into three parts that together investigate how French basketball developed from a low point in the middle of the 20th century to a global powerhouse contributing players to the NBA and the WNBA almost every year. Krasnoff argues that French basketball's success hinges on their ability make use of their connections both with the United States and with their former empire. In examining the growth of basketball in France, Krasnoff traces a sporting genealogy that links together players, coaches, and even commentators from around the globe who compete together in France and help produce a distinctive French style of basketball that nevertheless has appeal outside of the hexagon. In Basketball Empire, Krasnoff's first section takes off from her previous work on French association football, which looked at the development of Les Bleus. In the 1950s and 1960s, French basketball too was in crisis. In response, the French government, the Fédération française de basket-ball (FFBB), and even some sporting associations sought out new ways to improve the quality of play in France. Paris University Club brought in Americans who had played basketball in the NCAA but were now living in France to teach American approaches to the game. Individual players, including one of the earliest female French basketball stars Elisabeth Riffiod, watched film of American professionals like Bill Russell. The government redeveloped a national training centre: the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance (INSEP.) The French League professionalized in 1987. Since the 1990s, French basketball has enjoyed a rising number of successful EuroBasket and Olympic campaigns, including a men's silver and a women's bronze in 2020/21. Basketball Empire's second section uses micro-biographies to explore the ways that contemporary French players developed their skills, how they made their moves into the NCAA, the NBA or the WNBA, and the challenges and opportunities that these moves provided them as players. In this section in particular, Krasnoff's ability land and conduct interviews shines. She shows how diverse players, including Boris Diaw, Sandrine Gruda, Nicolas Batum, Marine Johannès, Diandra Tchatchouang, Evan Fournier, Mickaël Gelabale, and Rudy Gobert have become not only basketball stars but also informal diplomats that help build connections and translate between Africa, France and the United States. In the final section, Krasnoff considers why the French have been so successful at producing high quality men's and women's basketball players. She credits la formation à la française: the specific French training system that includes a national sports training center (the INSEP) as well as local and regional basketball academies (pôles espoirs). The future looks bright for French basketball and in our interview Krasnoff predicts French and US success in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympiad.
