This was one of the most fun interviews I’ve ever done. On the show today is Carlos Navarro. Carlos has been entertaining audiences for 22 years. He is co-host of the #1 talk show in Orlando, Fla., iHeartRadio's "Monsters in the Morning," and he's known for his scene-stealing roles in some of film and TV's biggest cultural phenomena, including "Bloodline," "The Walking Dead," and most recently, Marvel's "Hawkeye" He has been broke, jobless, and self-destructive, drank too much, partied too hard, earned three mugshots, and landed in jail after an infamous on-stage fight in 2006 with a former radio colleague. But Carlos turned it around in 2007 by self-motivating, doing the work on himself to be a better human, digging deeper spiritually, and yes, giving up drinking. When he changed his thinking and gave up alcohol, it became a pivotal moment in his life and career taking off. Seven years sober, he’s now sharing the “what worked for me” practices and lessons from his “mugshot to Marvel” journey to recovery and a more fulfilled life in the hopes of uplifting others. We chat about: Carlos's experience growing up in a Latin family with drinking How HALTing can help you rethink the drink The challenges of staying sober in the entertainment industry Rearranging furniture as a top tip to stop drinking habit Carlos’s other top tips to quit drinking And more! This podcast has been a long time coming. Years really. I first met Dylan Haas when I started taking BodyJam dance classes at the YMCA. He was my favorite instructor, and I had a sort of adulation of him and his wife at the time. Little did I know of the private vs. public personas of both, I just thought they were super rad. Fast forward through their personal tragedies and I rediscovered Dylan on his podcast- Fun in Sobriety. I was fascinated by hearing from people who had recovered from their drinking problems. I was still struggling with my own drinking. I wasn’t at rock bottom and seemed just like your typical wine mom on the outside. Inside though, I knew I had a problem. I didn't know many people who got sober, and I felt like my only options were AA and inpatient rehab, which I did not want to go to. I devoured Dylan’s interviews with local people in recovery. I told myself- one day, I'm going to be sober and I'm going to share my story on Dylan's podcast. I did get sober- nontraditionally and with the help of online groups and paradigm shifting nontraditional routes like Annie Grace's This Naked Mind. I got so freaking sober that now I help other people practice not drinking. Dylan stopped doing his podcast and he dropped off my radar. A couple of months ago, I saw a flier at my daughter's counselor office. It was for a substance abuse support group hosted by Dylan! This felt like a sign to reach out to Dylan and do that podcast interview. Please enjoy this conversation with Dylan Haas, sober dad, engineer, “comedian,” and counselor in training. Wow if that isn't motivating I don't know what is!So this is cause for celebration. In this episode, I meet with three of my most downloaded guests to get an update on what has been going on since their episode when live. Our first guest is Jean McCarthy. I first talked with Jean on Episode 21 about Simple Daily Habits on February 17, 2021. Jean is the creator of The Bubble Hour podcast which has 256 episodes (including one with me Season 9, Episode 2) and 4 million downloads. WOW. She is also the author of The Unpickled books with a new one coming out in November, you can check them out right on her website. Jean shares some real-life struggles she has had since our time together and how she has been dealing with the big emotions, while also staying sober and building her business. I am so thankful for Jean's work and all she is doing to advocate for everyone in the recovery community. Next, is Deb Masner, who appeared March 1, 2022 on episode 67 called The Positive Parts Of Not Drinking. Deb is the creator of Alcohol Tipping Point where she supports women who are questioning their drinking and might be ready to take a break. She created what she calls the Alcoholiday and offers resources as well as a podcast. You can check out our conversation on her podcast on March 23, 2022. Deb is raising two kids and she recently celebrated a milestone anniversary with her husband. She shared about the joys she is having in all of that and her gratitude for sobriety. You can follow her on Instagram @alcoholtippingpoint and check out her podcast. Her energy and spirit are infectious.Last but not least I spent time with Jen Kautsch from Sober Sis. Jen was featured on the Confident Sober Women podcast on Episode 32 on May 5, 2021. Since then Jen has hit a milestone birthday and is truly coming into her own at 5 years sober! She is building her business helping sober curious women practice not drinking. She shares how being emotionally available has been such a blessing for her adult children.Jen offers a 21-day reset, workshops and she has MERCH!
