Leanne Stanley is a highly respected, Canadian outrigger canoe paddler, coach, and ocean athlete whose impact spans decades in the paddling community. Known for her grit, discipline, and deep love for the water, Leanne has competed at the highest levels of racing, across numerous paddle craft, earning a reputation as both a fierce competitor and someone that can push through significant obstacles. Living, and racing, with Type 1 Diabetes is no small feat and it took many years for Leanne to get a proper diagnosis; which ultimately changed her world… for the better. However, as result of a major car crash, she now navigates living with a traumatic brain injury as well. But she doesn't let these conditions keep her from her passions of paddling at the highest levels and coaching others. Leanne is highly recognized for her work as a teacher, coach and mentor. She has guided paddlers of all ages and abilities, from beginners to elite athletes chasing podiums; helping them build strength, resilience, and confidence both physically and mentally. Her coaching philosophy blends technical expertise with an emphasis on mindset, camaraderie, tenacity, and fun. Leanne's connection to paddling runs deeper than competition alone. She is a passionate advocate for the paddling community and lifelong athleticism. Whether she's leading a training session, coaching from the beach, or lining up at the start line, Leanne brings authenticity, experience, and courage to everything she does. Leanne continues to inspire paddlers of all ages by showing what's possible through commitment, grit, and the determination to keep going… no matter what obstacles you have in front of you.
Send a textEpisode 50: Plowing Forward: In this episode we discuss the importance of plowing forward, moving ahead, when you find yourself feeling stuck in your journey. Take the first step in plowing forward by listening to this episode today!
We discuss why North America's largest construction trade show, CONEXPO, is launching a new “Ground Breakers Stage” specifically aimed at spotlighting future innovation ahead, how industry leading trade associations like AEM and ABC took a ‘mixed fleet' outlook to collaborate on their respective innovation trends and efforts to bolster CONEXPO 2026, how AI-enabled heavy machinery autonomy specifically will be a major point of focus this year (and why that only further emphasizes the critical human element involved in all of this!), and finally why the broader set of digital tools permeating these sectors has moved from optional to a near must-do in your operations.
In this episode, I break down the "Tightrope of Choice" we discussed on Wednesday. We dive into the life of Joni Eareckson Tada and why "letting go" is actually an active, disciplined movement.Standout Quote: "True submission is an active alignment of our discipline with His direction."Sticky Idea: Praying and Plowing. The Cooper and Anthony Show dives headfirst into the week's wildest headlines with their signature no-holds-barred, laugh-out-loud takedowns. In this episode, the duo unleashes on the bizarre saga surrounding Don Lemon—from his dramatic federal custody stint tied to that anti-ICE protest chaos to his defiant post-release mic-drop moments. They don't pull punches, roasting the drama, the optics, and everything in between. Then they pivot to the heartbreaking (and way too soon) news of Catherine O'Hara's passing at 71—the beloved comedy queen of Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, and so much more. Expect heartfelt tributes mixed with their classic irreverent humor as they celebrate her iconic career while being unapologetically savage about the absurdity of losing legends too early. And because no Cooper and Anthony episode is complete without going full savage mode, they turn their mean streak up to 11 on "plowing Philly"—tearing into whatever ridiculous, Philly-flavored mess (snowstorms? sports disasters? something way dirtier?) has the internet (and them) in stitches. Snarky, ruthless, and zero regrets. If you love sharp wit, zero filter, and hosts who will say the quiet part out loud (and then yell it), this is the episode that delivers the goods. Tune in for the laughs, the burns, and the takes so hot they might get them canceled... again.

Kayla, my daughter in law, is out in the snow playing with her dog Pierre and it's adorable! His ears are going straight up and he's literally off the ground hopping looking like he's flying! He is so cute and fun! Plowing his head through the snow too! My son Cody is up in the window with our precious Tru Davis, their little baby boy! They look so cute! Kayla's laughter is amazing! I like to add some light things to this channel along with the dark and mysterious. We all need more light than dark. Enjoy!

When does comedy become more than a laugh? Ben Mangrum of MIT joins RtB to discuss his new book, The Comedy of Computation: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Obsolescence (Stanford UP, 2025), which in some ways is organized around “the intriguing idea that human knowledge work is our definitive feature and yet the machines we are ourselves made are going to replace us at it.” Comedy has provided a toolbox (Charles Tilly calls them "collective repertoires") for responding to the looming obsolescence of knowledge workers.John's interest in Menippean satire within science fiction leads him to ask about about the sliding meanings of comedy and its pachinko machine capacity; he loves the way Ben uses the word and concept of doubling,; Ben explains how the computer may either queer (in an antisocial way) or get assimilated into romantic heteronormative pairings. John asks about Donna Haraway's 1985 A Cyborg Manifesto and teh way it denaturalizes gender roles and the way new technological affordances (from the Acheulean axe that Malafouris discusses to the Apple watch) redefine human roles. Ben delves into the minstrelsy pre-history of the photo-robots going as far back as the late 19th century. They unpack the distinctively American Leo Marxian optimism of The Machine in the Garden (1964) that spreads back as far as the proto-robots like The Steam Man of the Prairies(1868) and good old Tik-Tok in the Wizard of Oz novels. John asks about double-edged nature of Ben's claim that comic “genericity provides forms for making a computationally mediated social world seem more habitable, even as it also provides Is for criticizing and objecting to that world." First you get description says Ben--and then sometimes critique. John asks about the iterability of the new: how much of what seems new actually New New (in the sense of that great 1999 Michael Lewis book, The New New Thing)? Mentioned in the episode: The Desk Set a play William Marchand and a movie starring Katherine Hepburn. How might a computer be incorporated into the sociability of a couple? Her (Spike Jonze,, 2013) computer meets human makes the rom-com into a coupling machine. WarGames (1983( ends with Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy (not Ione Skye—silly John!) paired. But also with Broderick and the formerly deadly computer settling down to “how about a nice game of chess”? Black Mirror as the 2020's version of the same dark satire as the 1950's Twilight Zone. John asks about Stanislaw Lem's Cyberiad, and the comic coupling of Kirk and Spock and the death-as-computer comedy of Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979). Leo Marx, The Machine in the Garden (1964). Dave Eggers: the joke structure as critique in The Circle and The Every. Some of the more unhinged writing on superintelligence pictures AI doing things that seem like magic. Crossing air gaps to escape its data center. Building nanomachines from simple components. Plowing through physical bottlenecks to revolutionize the economy in months. More sober thinkers point out that these things might be physically impossible. You can't do physically impossible things, even if you're very smart. No, say the speculators, you don't understand. Everything is physically impossible when you're 800 IQ points too dumb to figure it out. A chimp might feel secure that humans couldn't reach him if he climbed a tree; he could never predict arrows, ladders, chainsaws, or helicopters. What superintelligent strategies lie as far outside our solution set as “use a helicopter” is outside a chimp's? https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/testing-ais-geoguessr-genius

Hello wine friends, and welcome back to another episode! Today, we're taking a journey to Chile — but not just any part of it — to the Maule Valley's Secano Interior, a region that feels like a living history book. Here, it's less about polished, commercial wines and more about soulful, authentic expressions. There's a strong movement to preserve heritage grape varieties and protect ancient vines, and I'm thrilled to be joined by someone who knows this better than anyone: Derek Mossman Knapp of Garage Wine Co. Derek was recently honored with the prestigious Old Vine Hero Special Award for Overall Impact in 2024, recognizing his incredible contributions to old vine preservation, viticulture, and winemaking. As a founding member of VIGNO (Vignadores de Carignan) and MOVI (Movimiento de Viñateros Independientes), Derek is deeply committed to tradition, terroir, and artisanal winemaking. In this episode, we dive into the fascinating story of País — the very first grape to arrive in Chile in the 1500s — and explore what makes the Maule Valley such a special and historic place for wine. If you want to skip ahead: 02.30: How Toronto native Derek Mossman Knapp ended up in Chile. 03.30: From hobby winemaker to starting an export wine business. 05.00: Partnering with small growers to make authentic wines. 08.00: Coastal Range terroir: granite soils and old vines. 10.00: Preserving rural food traditions like wheat milling. 11.30: Maule's slower lifestyle rooted in agriculture. 12.00: Derek wins Old Vine Hero award. 14.00: Building a community around old vine viticulture. 15.00: Honoring Spanish heritage with grape naming. 16.30: Reviving País as Chile's historic grape. 19.10: Tasting and discussing the Garage Wine Co. Revival Old Vine País 2021 (£17.95 - Currently £12.95 Slurp) 20.00: Praise for País as a fascinating wine with great interest despite its light style. 22.52: The difference between Maule Valley and the Secano Interior 23.51: Cauquenes known for concentration of old-vine País 25.00: Use of old País rootstocks for grafting new varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon. 26.30: Challenges of working with old, non-mechanized bush vines; need for focus and intention in the wine. 28.00: Plowing methods and regenerative farming; complex issues regarding irrigation and water management. 29.16: Mention of the low annual rainfall in Maule, with poor water retention in certain vineyards. 32.00: Fair compensation for workers and building a business around smaller, more focused projects. 33.00: Building a dedicated team to handle pruning, plowing, and harvesting; ability to pick on flexible schedules. 35.40: Hard work and passion required for wine production; a labor of love in the winemaking process. 36.00: Discussion of the future of Maule wine production on the global stage; challenges in the wine trade. 37.00: Wines that have differentiated themselves are faring better than those following trends; focus on quality over scale.
