This guest embarked on his media journey as an NBC Page in the early 80s and has remained deeply entrenched in the industry ever since. His Page career has been peppered with riveting tales that are sure to captivate you. For example, we'll dive into the electrifying moment when Andy Kaufman made a surreal appearance on David Letterman's show, only to have wrestling legend Jerry Lawler wipe the grin right off Andy's face. Brace yourselves for an insider's account of that unforgettable studio encounter from the very person who witnessed it all unfold! And hear how legendary comedian and actor Milton Berle once hatched a plan to make a surprise appearance on David Letterman's live show, but our forthcoming guest had to play the role of gatekeeper. Tune in to discover how Uncle Milty handled the disappointing news and the intriguing backstory behind this unforgettable moment! And he's home, our next guest had the incredible opportunity to meet the iconic Desi Arnaz, all thanks to the encouragement of the unmistakable voice of Don Pardo. But the burning question is, was Lucy just around the corner? And did you know that the bold and uproarious female comedian, actress, and host Joan Rivers had a hidden talent—it's downing shots! Stay tuned to learn about our guest's memorable Tequila shot experience with the self-deprecating trailblazer of comedy. And just in case you weren't aware, talk shows like Late Night With David Letterman are typically recorded "live to tape." This means that they record the show earlier in the day but execute it as if it were being broadcast to you in real-time. They usually don't pause or redo a joke or segment, except for that one memorable occasion when our guest was right there to witness what unfolded when David Letterman was left utterly stunned, prompting an unprecedented interruption of the show! And, do you have a belief in magic? The mystical Magician Doug Henning certainly does, and he also believes in our next guest's extraordinary ability to prevent overzealous individuals from storming the stage. Brace yourselves for a truly bizarre and astonishing tale that you won't believe! And while NBC Pages are primarily tasked with giving tours, you'd be surprised to learn about the unique assignment our guest was handed, which ultimately led to the potential of an abundance of Bacardi Rum. Tune in to hear this fascinating story! And speaking of alcoholic preferences, you'll discover the intriguing tale of how legendary radio personalities Howard Stern and Don Imus developed a penchant for Dewar's White Label Scotch. Then, we'll delve into the contrasting ways some celebrities conduct themselves in public. We're putting old school against new school – it's a showdown between Bob Hope and Sylvester Stallone. Who will shine like a true star in this comparison? Plus, you'll hear his experience with NBC News man Tom Brokaw and many other fun stories, including his exciting life as a TV News reporter, where he currently works at Fox 5 in Washington, DC. Please enjoy this engaging and interesting conversation with Bob Barnard!
Cuba was the Spanish empire's most important source of raw sugar in the 18th century. Today it is said to produce the finest cigars in the world. Bacardi Rum originally was made in Cuba, but when Fidel Castro came into office, its production was moved to Puerto Rico. It's also known for having the most enduring trade embargo imposed on any country in history, this by the United States.· 00:00 – Intro · 00:55 – Bare Bones· 02:45 – Heart of the Nation· 02:49 – Geography and Climate· 06:03 – Plants and Animals· 13:25 – People· 21:45 – Urbanism and Architecture· 24:20 – History· 41:00 – Government· 47:00 – Economy· 50:22 – Doing Business· 51:03 – Crime and Legal Issues· 52:00 – Social Provisions· 53:30 – Education· 55:27 – Health· 58:09 – Food · 01:01:07 – Arts· 01:02:25 – Unique Holidays and Celebrations· 01:04:30 – Sports· 01:04:45 – Transportation· 01:06:47 – Communications· 01:08:10 – Energy· 01:09:06 – Travel· 01:12:38 – Who Is?· 01:18:42 – Who Would've Thought?Find Nations of the World Podcast:Email now-podcast@heartsgroup.orgWebsite https://nationsoftheworldpodcast.comPatreon https://www.patreon.com/nationsoftheworld
Karate Kid was a movie about a kid who learns karate from a Karate master and uses his newly learned skills to overcome a group of bullies, and in the journey, finds himself. A Fight For Honor (1992) is a movie about a (female!) kid who learns Tae Kwon Do from a Tae Kwon Do master and uses her newly learned skills to overcome (two!) groups of bullies and in the journey gets undercut by the grandson of her Tae Kwon Do master. Rampage (1997) on the other hand, can't properly be conveyed using human vocal chords. It's a vibe. It's a multitude of vibes. It's the kind of thing that can only really be embodied by a .Gif of an old man stepping nude from his shower and taking a pull from a carefully placed mickey of Bacardi Rum next to his sink. We welcome the Entrepreneur Extraordinaire David Westerfield, Owner of W Haus Boutique, Owner of W456 Restaurant and former owner of Showbiz Talent Dance Competition and Prime Time Dance Competition. This particular episode we take you all the way back to the beginning of David's unique life story from being born in Waco Texas, going to Baylor University and realizing he wanted to see the country and the world. With $50 in his pocket he left Waco, bought a poodle puppy and went to Denver Colorado. Even though he excelled in the fashion world there, he left to move to New York City, where he was discovered as a model by the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency. He was immediately booked and whisked away to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a shooting for a National Commercial for Bacardi Rum. His next stop took him to Louisiana where he had the opportunity to work for International Production Publications, which ran a pageant organization. He traveled worldwide with the Miss Universe Organization searching for venues. He loved the travel and the experience. He was in his early 20's and the entrepreneurial spirit kicked in when he found himself at a dance competition with an auditorium full of thousands of people and a terrible MC.With zero dance background of his own he decided that he could do this way better and SHOWBIZ DANCE TALENT COMPETITION was born. He talks about how difficult it was and that there were only 4 solos at the very first competition. However it grew every single year, because the production value was so special. At one point he had 2500 acts in one single weekend from Thursday to Sunday night. He was inspired by 3 major dance competitions in the USA at the time and his dream was to make Showbiz Dance Talent Competition a Nationally Acclaimed Dance Competition and he achieved that and more. He started a sister Competition called Prime Time Dance and traveled the country for 25 years. Marcella and David talk about the incredible demands a dance competition weekend brings, with only 3 hours of sleep a night, dealing with airlines, setting up at the venues but it was such an energy rush to see the people lining up at the doors and watching the kids under the bright lights. He credits his experience with Miss Universe and the production quality to his 5 star, black tie Nationals he would put on in several cities across the US.That is why they attracted the best of the best and the quality of the dancers was incredible. David became friends with dance studio owners across the country. He says that is the secret and foundation to success in any business - is forming relationships. David still cherishes all the people that supported them then and he appreciates their support to this day. David Westerfield is a man full of persistence with a determination to never quit that is very inspiring to watch. David says the day you stop learning is the day you die. We talk about staff, the IDC - International Dance Competition, his craziest dance Mom and dance studio owner moments. We talk about all the human emotions you are dealing with in the dance world. After all you are dealing with peoples most prized possession - their precious child. After 25 years David sold both competitions and said it was very hard for him to hear that the new people didn't continue the way he had set it up. David says that he knows who he is without dance and that is a VERY HAPPY PERSON.We learn how he met Gabrielle's best friend Thomas Weigl, about their friendship and that his favorite city in the world is Vienna, Austria. We find out how he proposed and talk about their beautiful wedding. David is a dog lover and supports the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake. Stay tuned to Part 2 of David's unique life story and what he is up to now.
Even though Leslie, Jessica and I are Puerto Rican, well, Leslie is half Puerto Rican and half Dominican, our traditions were not the same. We remember the similarities and share the differences. Since I am the only one that has actually lived in Puerto Rico, I was able to experience the full Christmas experience from childhood to adulthood. Jessica may have lost her Puerto Rican card after saying she doesn't like Bacardi. Also, you must listen in and hear all about my Christmas Branch. Totally not a Latin tradition, just me being funny! Here is the recipe for the Coquito. It's our Christmas Drink and I refuse to call it a type of eggnog, because...just NO! 1 can of Cream of Coconut 1 can of Evaporated Milk 1 can of Sweet Condensed Milk 2 cans of Coconut Milk 2 Tbls of Cinnamon 1 cup of Bacardi Rum (start with 1/2 a cup and add until you hear the angels sing!) Put it in a blender until the cinnamon is well incorporated and everything is creamy smooth. Store in glass containers/bottles with lids and refrigerate. Serve COLD! You can add a dash of cinnamon to make it look pretty! Enjoy! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
