This week, a listener who donated to the podcast suggested that we discuss the Joel Schumacher BATMAN movies... so that's exactly what we're doing! Mike and Mike revisit 1995's BATMAN FOREVER and 1997 BATMAN & ROBIN - do these movies hold up better than we remember as relics of a pre-superhero movie boom era? Is Val Kilmer actually a pretty good Batman? Could we ever possibly get sick of Mr. Freeze's ice puns? The answers to all this and more are within!
#151The Northman, Windfall, Batman Forever & Batman and Robin This week, we have a roller coaster of different tales and emotions. The Northman marks the third film from a detailed indie filmmaker that specializes in the brutal aspects of life in a time and space mixed with legend and myth. Windfall is a possible dark comedy about a break-in that turns into an interesting but ultimately disappointing hostage situation. The third entry of the Batman Marathon (Batathon) lies in the worst aspects of the 90's with Joel Schumacher's Batman movies; the bad poses and action set pieces and infinite usage of puns. #150 Everything Everywhere All At Once, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Batman(1989) & Batman Returns This week, we encounter the work of the Daniels; their sophomore effort, Everything Everywhere All At Once shows just how different a high-concept movie can be. Magical, hilarious and tender only begin to describe the experience. Sonic 2 opens the world up to the lovable characters of the games with Tails and Knuckles and while it doesn't hold the same quality as its predecessor, Jim Carey's Robotnik remains entertaining. Lastly, we delve into Tim Burton's Batman films; the gothic splendor and ridiculous characters that somehow works and is held in high esteem over the decades. Have you heard the soundtrack lately? to honor robert pattinson in his debut as the sad billionaire vigilante, we're taking a trip back to the mid-90s when joel schumacher ensured that a studio would never greenlight a campy superhero movie again. that's right, we're talking about the '95 megahit "batman forever" with val kilmer, jim carrey, tommy lee jones & a very horny nicole kidman, as well as the unofficial queer canon "batman & robin" wherein george clooney battles arnold schwarzenegger's mr. freeze and battles the twink carnie robin for the toxic green pussy of uma thurman's poison ivy. we're joined by batman stan and celebrity pussy eater commentator kelsey holmes to talk about all the important batman topics. do val and clooney do justice to the caped crusader? is batman even a real character before christian bale and christopher nolan ground the series in post-9/11 fascism? does nicole kidman's dr. chase merridian exist exclusively to be the horniest person ever put in a superhero movie? why chris o'donnell get big movie part??? why did planet hollywood and rainforest cafes seem so tight when we were kids? how incredible are the soundtracks for both these movies? and of course, which batman is #1 pussy eater?? both schumacher batman's are streaming on hulu // follow kelsey on twitter/ig @botticelli_bod

Alright everyone, chill! Batman and Robin are back in the fourth and final installment of Warner Bros.' initial Batman film series, the sequel to Batman Forever - Batman & Robin. Directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Akiva Golsman, Batman & Robin is the 1997 superhero film based on the title DC Comics characters. George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell suit up in cool new costumes as Batman and Robin respectively. The Ice Man Cometh with Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze alongside Uma Thurman's seductive performance as Poison Ivy. And Alicia Silverstone thaws out the only live-action film appearance of Batgirl. Allow That Film Stew's Luke and Nathan to break the ice with a new Batman (again), stone cold puns, long stares, designs suited for a rave, and more Batnips! Batman and Robin attempt to prevent Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy from taking over the world, while at the same time struggling to keep their partnership together.
Christian and Matt are reviewing all of the theatrically released Batman movies. This week, they review Batman Forever. Is this a hidden gem out of all the batman movies or is this just another train wreck of a movie? Listen to find out if this movie has been able to stand the test of time

Hi, hello and welcome to another amazing episode from Nerds Amalgamated. Once again we enjoy bringing you this slice of entertainment from the world of the NERD pop culture news, where all are welcome. We pause for a moment to pay our respect to the victims of the cowardly bombings in Sri Lanka over Easter. Also we pause to honour the ANZACs, those individuals who have helped defend Australia and New Zealand for over a century. First topic is from the Professor, and it is about an open source game making program that enables the creation of 8-bit type games. Useable on web-browsers and portable devices such as the Nintendo Gameboy (All trademarks acknowledged – so don’t sue us please Nintendo, Buck is still not happy with you). This is looking like a fun way of making your own games and also introducing coding and game development to a new generation. Then we look at a birthday celebration for Batman, 80 years old and still giving crime a beat down. Yep, there is a return of the quadrilogy from the 90’s to cinemas. So grab you friends, dig those happy pants out of the cupboard and shake up that hair spray and head on down. You get to see the two Michael Keaton Batman movies, followed by Val Kilmer and then George Clooney. We discuss Bat-nipple gate and how fun these movies were. Plus we hear how tragic Buck was at decorating his bedroom as a teenager. Next up we look at further plans to make use of CRISPR for gene editing, this time to prevent hereditary diseases. Say hi to the start of Gattaca folks, we have a group of mad scientists running around with questionable ethics who don’t watch movies. Next they will be telling us about how they want to remake dinosaurs and release them into the wild, like that other movie. Don’t these people ever learn to think about the consequences of their actions? We finish off with the usual shout out, remembrances, birthdays and events. As always take care of each other and stay hydrated.EPISODE NOTES:Sri Lankan Easter Bombing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Sri_Lanka_Easter_bombingsAnzac Day - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_DayGB Studios - https://www.gbstudio.dev/ - https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/bg1xej/gb_studio_is_an_opensource_visual_game_maker_to/Original Batman Quadrilogy - https://screenrant.com/batman-original-movie-quadrilogy-returning-theaters/CRISPR Human Gene Editing - http://discovermagazine.com/2019/may/repairing-the-futureGames Currently playingDJ– Mortal Kombat 11 – https://store.steampowered.com/app/976310/Mortal_Kombat11/Buck– Assassin’s Creed Unity - https://store.steampowered.com/app/289650/Assassins_Creed_Unity/Professor– Adrenaline the board game - https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/202408/adrenalineOther topics discussedAnzac Day road closures- https://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/full-list-of-anzac-day-road-closures-in-brisbane/news-story/21e0848fde4b685faaa4a416adf98018Nintendo shuts down Emuparadise - https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/275146-retro-gaming-site-emuparadise-shuts-down-as-nintendo-hits-the-warpathNintendo shuts down Pokemon Uranium- https://www.polygon.com/2016/8/14/12472616/pokemon-uranium-taken-down-nintendoNintendo takes down Commodore 64 Remake of Super Mario Bros- https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/04/nintendo-takes-down-c64-remake-of-super-mario-bros/Batman Movies- Batman (1989 film) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_(1989_film)- Batman Returns (1992 film) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Returns- Batman Forever (1992 film) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Forever- Batman & Robin (1995 film) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_%26_Robin_(film)Joker actors in Batman movies and other media- Jack Nicholson (1989 Batman film Joker) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Nicholson- Heath Ledger (2008 Batman film Joker) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_Ledger- Mark Hamill (1992 Batman: The Animated Series Joker) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_HamillAlicia Silverstone (Batgirl in Batman & Robin 1997)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alicia_SilverstoneActors portraying as Batman- Michael Keaton (1989 & 1992 Batman) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Keaton- Val Kilmer (1992 Batman) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Val_Kilmer- George Clooney (1997 Batman) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_ClooneyGattaca (1997 film)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GattacaDynamite also known as TNT – TriNitroToluene is a compound in dynamite but is not the same, there is another piece of trivia you can use in the trivia night to stump people- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DynamiteGuided bombs also known as Smart bombs, but smart bombs also have many other variants ranging from types of explosions, for example the bunker busters, to warhead variants on ICBMs which separate and loose multiple strikes over an extended area or separate targets.- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guided_bombEugenics- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EugenicsBrave New World by Aldous Huxley- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_New_WorldU.N findings: US Forces kill more Afghan Civilians than ISIS & Taliban in 2019- https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/04/24/unprecedented-un-finds-us-backed-forces-killed-more-afghan-civilians-taliban-and?fbclid=IwAR3xU6beak4Ega5DO8VeaoF77-Mn3lPSR6m5E_Ibg8lhTPMYgC4MHkSoeiAImage comparison of Mortal Kombat Sonya Blade (MK 9 vs MK 11)- https://am21.akamaized.net/tms/cnt/uploads/2019/01/Sonya-Blade.jpgFrank Welker (voice actor)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_WelkerCary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (actor)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cary-Hiroyuki_TagawaMK 11 Skins total cost = $6440- https://www.vg247.com/2019/04/24/mortal-kombat-11-skin-price-6440/Ed Boon’s response to total cost of MK 11 skins- https://twitter.com/noobde/status/1121243237388357632Mortal Kombat 11 voice cast list- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9398566/Master Chief (Halo character)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Chief_(Halo)Last chance to download Assassin’s Creed Unity for free (Now expired)- https://www.gamespot.com/articles/last-chance-to-get-assassins-creed-unity-for-free-/1100-6466327/Star Trek Beyond (2016 film) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_BeyondDid Shakespeare write his own plays- https://www.history.com/news/did-shakespeare-really-write-his-own-playsShirley Temple (drink)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Temple_(drink)Email Bomb (internet virus)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_bombMonkey selfie copyright dispute- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_selfie_copyright_disputeKanellos Kanellopoulos (Greek cyclist who piloted the 1988 MIT Daedalus project)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanellos_KanellopoulosShoutouts20 Apr 1887 - World's First Motor Race, Georges Bouton “won the world’s first motor race” with a steam-powered quadricycle. So, a movie from 1990 by the Batman Forever/Batman & Robin guy (but before he was known for that! this was post-Lost Boys, pre Falling Down Joel Schumacher, prime Schum!), and a movie from... this year by the Dragon Tattoo guy (no, not Fincher, the other Dragon Tattoo from Sweden, the one people pretend they saw but actually didn't because subtitles). How can they face off against each other? What will win out, if at all?!?! And the bigger question: what happens when you actually get a remake where it's not even a remake of a particularly *good* original? Jack and - wait, no Andrew this time again - Korey(!) saw both the 1990 and 2017 Flatliners movies. What'd we think? Listen below. Also, there are some spoilers for both movies... you'll have to listen to find out where they are. You might say you will want to... stay alive for them! (If you want to go right to the 2017 review portion it's 27 mins in). wagesofcinema@gmail.com
With Tim Burton in the rear-view mirror it's finally time to tackle the red-headed step-children of the franchise: Joel Schumacher's infamous Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. With a decidedly more family friendly tone comes a decidedly worse pair of films that Mike & Matt gladly took the time to dissect.
It's Ang Lee, damn it! Mike and Pete set out to find out if Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) is still sacred while gently unthreading the many plots within. There's quite a bit going on in this movie, more than on the surface, so there's lots to discuss. Plenty of humor to be found as well. We also have announcements of the next few episodes after the ones listed below...so you'll have to listen to be in the know!!! Upcoming Episodes: 6/1/2016 - Batman Returns (1992) - Featuring Alex Cater (@HappyPuke) 6/15/2016 - Batman Forever/Batman and Robin - Featuring Josh Gentry (@ItsProbablyJosh) Sacred Cows is a bi-weekly podcast where we talk about movies that are 10 years old or older, and that at least one cast member or guest has nostalgia for. We start each episode with sketch comedy before getting into the review itself. Some episodes are feedback episodes, where we talk about whatever thing you want related to the previous several shows! Sacred Cows productions is proud to introduce…The Shiny? No stone will be unturned, and we pull out all the stops as we step into the horror/suspense category with our review of the 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic, The Shining! (And it continues the Jack Nicholson trend.) We have to admit, this great suggestion from Veronica Lovecraft (@TypicalVeronica) , so we had to have her on to talk about it! Who else has that level of expertise in horrific thoughts? We pull out all the stops for this episode, with a grade A new skit, grade A discussion about the movie, and the grade A humor you love. You’ll want to be trapped in a hotel for the winter with this episode! But will The Shining be sacred? Listen to find out! Upcoming Episodes: 5/18/2016 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) 6/1/2016 - Batman Returns (1992) - Featuring Alex Cater (@HappyPuke) 6/15/2016 - Batman Forever/Batman and Robin - Featuring Josh Gentry (@ItsProbablyJosh) Sacred Cows is a bi-weekly podcast where we talk about movies that are 10 years old or older, and that at least one cast member or guest has nostalgia for. A recap/review of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, the third and fourth movies set in the Burton/Schumacher Bat-verse. We start in on the News Bits at 8:40, talk Batman Forever at 29:30 and Batman & Robin at 1:52:40.
Batman is a character that was born to be in movies, and one of the most anticipated films of 1997 was the sequel to Batman Forever: Batman and Robin. This movie is infamous for its campy tone and silly style. It has been said that this film nearly killed the Batman franchise, but is it really that bad?
The first annual STL awards are on this episode!!! Did you make the cut, what award did you win? Listen and find out. Plus Masunas reviews the "soft reboot" Batman Forever and thoughts and feelings on a movie that came out prior to the worst Batman movie in history. All this and more in episode 65. [Digital Gonzo 2012] We're back at the Bat! This week was going to be a pair of reviews of the 1995 film Batman Forever and the 1997 sequel; Batman & Robin, both directed by Joel Schumacher. What we found was that our problems with these films could not be separated and a great deal of the issues of the fourth Batman movie originated in the third, which usually gets off lightly as it is considered halfway watchable (we suspect because of Nicole Kidman). The truth is, I had real trouble pinning anybody down to help review this as the two are such tedious and incompetently constructed films. Everyone passed or fell ill or were otherwise engaged and frankly I don't blame them. This was a review-set that filled me with anxiety over what to say. We know they're a mess but the trick was how to explain why. In the end it was the Gonzo way of course; I did my homework and looked into how this odyssey of multibuggery came to pass. Gonzo Planet's Paul ‘FlyingMuttley' Gibson joined me for what ended up a bumper double-bill of savage critiquing. There is a special section on the making-of documentaries that has to beard to be believed. It reaches levels of self-delusion most often associated with war-criminals in denial. Next week we're looking at one of my favourite Batman graphic novels, which I suggest you all pick up and read before listening in. It's called ‘Hush' and it's perfect for both newcomers to Batman comics and old hands. The world presented is like the Arkham games or a gritter version of the Animated Series and most of your favourite characters are involved in this compelling mystery story. Guest: Paul Gibson of Gonzo Planet
