Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHWe meet a little girl named Jyn. Her family is in hiding. One day, the bad guy Orson shows up to tell Jyn's dad, Galen, that they need him to come back and finish the Death Star. Galen's like, “I wouldn't be any use—I'm just a sad sack ever since my wife died.” Suddenly, his wife comes running out of the field—so really bad timing, honestly. She has a gun and she's like, “You'll never take him!” Orson's like, “I'm taking you all.” She shoots him. They shoot her. Orson tells his guys to go find the child, but Jyn is really good at hide-and-seek. She waits in the secret spot until a dude named Saw shows up. It's clear they know each other.Fast forward some time—Jyn is now an adult and in a holding cell. Meanwhile, a cargo pilot named Bodhi shows up and claims to Saw that he wants to join the Rebels.Jyn is being transferred with other prisoners when Rebel forces suddenly break in and free them, led by Cassian Andor. Together, they fight stormtroopers and escape. They take a reprogrammed Imperial droid named K-2SO and head somewhere else, where they encounter more stormtroopers who are gathering crystals to power the Death Star. They're about to get captured, but a blind spiritual warrior named Chirrut Îmwe and his mercenary friend Baze Malbus help them out. This allows Jyn to make contact with Saw, who is holding Bodhi. She sees a message in which Galen reveals that he secretly built a vulnerability into the Death Star. The schematics are stored in an Imperial data vault.Onboard the Death Star, Orson orders a test strike on the moon where the gang is. Jyn and her group take Bodhi and flee, but Saw stays behind and dies.Orson gets an atta boy from his higher-up.Bodhi leads the group to Galen's Imperial research facility. Rebel bombers attack the site. Galen is wounded and dies in Jyn's arms before she escapes with the group on a stolen Imperial cargo shuttle.Orson is summoned by Darth Vader—he's back, baby!—to explain the attack. Orson's like, “Now that you've seen my work, maybe introduce me to the Emperor?” Vader force-chokes him and says, “Get back to work and don't cause any more trouble.”Jyn proposes a mission to steal the Death Star schematics, but the Alliance Council thinks there's no chance of success. Frustrated by their inaction, Jyn's group leads a small squad of volunteers—Bodhi dubs them “Rogue One.” Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO infiltrate the Imperial base while the others create a diversion with a space battle. The Alliance eventually joins the fight, sending their fleet. Jyn gets the schematics but is ambushed by Orson, who is shot and wounded by Cassian. Jyn transmits the schematics to the Rebel command ship just before the Death Star fires a beam that destroys the base—and them. The Rebel fleet tries to escape, but many ships are intercepted by Darth Vader. He boards the command ship and wrecks everyone in an attempt to recover the plans, but a smaller ship escapes with them. Princess Leia declares that the schematics will provide hope for the Rebellion—some might even call it a new hope.

I've never met a person who wanted to not live free. The trick with human beings is that we're all seeking freedom from different things, people, places, and ideas. One man's prison is another's retreat. In last week's edition, What Sets You Free (paywall is now down) I outlined how the Jedi and Sith differ on what defines freedom, and how it relates to our own struggles with living the kind of lives we'd like to live. Today I have something else for you to consider, a controversial point — no doubt. Which is that freedom and subjugation may depend only on your perspective. After all, when we're talking about Star Wars' philosophy, even a blind man can see more clearly than those with functioning eyes. But first! and took How The Force Can Fix The World and the message of This Is The Way on the road to North Carolina Comicon in Durham. Many of you reading this today are folks we met on the convention floor, again — welcome! Stephen gave a talk to a live audience about Star Wars' & Empathy titled “The Call of Heroes". That call is to look beyond the masks and illusions of people who frighten and confuse us. That talk will be posted on YouTube soon. In the meantime, this 4-minute video is a sneak peek into our journey and what it was like preparing for for NC Comicon and spreading our message about how Star Wars makes us better. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we meet Chirrut Îmwe, a Force-wielding mystic and adherent to the Jedi way. He is no Jedi, but this blind monk of the planet Jedha would have made a great one, if not for the Empire's rise. Chirrut finds himself captured by anti-Imperial militants along with Cassian Andor and Baze Malbus. They sit together in a shoddy prison cell. Cassian Andor is nervously trying to find a way out. Chirrut says, “Relax, Captain. We've been in worse cages than this one.”Andor snips back, “This is the first for me.”Chirrut Îmwe, the blind monk sitting relaxed behind prison bars and undisturbed by their situation, says….“There is more than one sort of prison, Captain. I sense that you carry yours wherever you go.”Chirrut senses a dark shadow around Cassian. One of guilt, worry, shame, doubt, and anger. All of these things shape Cassian's actions and bear down on him like a wet blanket. Cassian could escape this prison cell and still be a prisoner, of sorts. Chirrut on the other hand, is free as a bird in any situation. This Is The Way is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Just as Chirrut can see clearly through the Force, even without his eyes, Chirrut is not held hostage by his past mistakes or worries. All is, from his perspective, as the Force wills it. It's a perfect encapsulation of the philosophy of Epictetus (meaning: the acquired one), one of the Stoic greats of 55–135 AD. Whereas many Stoics of the age were wealthy and well-connected, Epictetus was a fellow traveler who was enslaved. He had no freedom in the literal or legal sense, but in his teachings throughout life, he would speak of how he was more free than any man who had ever owned him. A lofty ideal, but worthy of consideration. Chirrut Îmwe, without a doubt, would have identified with this lens on life. Epictetus, whose lectures are captured in the Enchiridion, remarked on how the rich and powerful of Rome would weep over money, status, and possessions. Epictetus had none. His perspective was to guard the freedom he had in his mind. To be uninfluenced by status, uncompromised by concerns over money or belongings — this was liberty. I wanted to keep this message today short, so if you want to go deeper, check out last week's post on defining freedom. In the modern age, we're fortunate to now be raised with an understanding of how unjust (and evil) systems like slavery are. But we should be wary of thinking of chains only in the literal sense. After all, some of us carry our prison with us wherever we go. Make choices this week that lead you toward more freedom to choose. This is the way. A comparison of the Jedi & Sith view of freedom, and how it relates to our very real lives. Will you consider joining us as a Paid Supporter of This Is The Way? Raiders of the Podcast

This week we discuss ancient history in a place not remotely near any of us.      It is a time of dishevel as the Trade Federation takes negotiations to drastic levels. Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi attempt to open new lines of communication, only to be hurled into a multi-planet adventure where they will discover The Space Messiah and face off against... STAR WARS: EPISODE 1- The Phantom Menace!     Ten years have passed and still no Jedi has come to understand the concept of balance. Obi-Wan finds himself on a mission in a missing solar system. Anakin Skywalker finds himself getting funky with a senator in the Naboo lake area. Soon the long brewing war will boil over into full intergalactic slaughter. STAR WARS: EPISODE 2- Attack of the Clones.     Three more years have come and gone. Anakin feels that not enough of his fellow Jedi kiss his butt enough, so he joins the Dark Side with little to no prompting. Obi-Wan has a side story against a robot general to take him out of the main action. Some folks love it, others do not. Still you can't argue that it's the last in the Prequel Trilogy... STAR WARS: EPISODE 3- Revenge of the Sith.     Fifteen years ago Galen Erso was ripped from his hiding place to help the Empire build their ultimate weapon and his daughter, Jyn, was taken under the wing of super rebel Saw Gerrera. Since then Jyn has grown into a full tilt bad ass action hero. When Galen gets a message out about a weakness he has hidden in the ultimate weapon, Jyn gathers a team to get the plans and make sure that it is never used on the repressed planets. She gathers a team including BFFs Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe. Unfortunately, the Resistance saddles her with an incompetent babysitter named Cassian Andor. Andor is just there interrupt all character moments and incompetently stumbles in the way of every other while making sure no one ever stops thinking about better similar characters that appeared in the other movies. Andor is the fucking worst and ensures that they can't possibly succeed in Rogue One: A STAR WARS STORY.     All that and Tyler feels something akin to joy, Dave's suffering manifests as actual tooth pain, and Kevin stops to smell a lot of roses as a desperate measure of holding on to his sanity.Join us, won't you?Episode 259- PADME!

Everything on the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is connected. Every detail has a back story, and every experience is more than what it appears on the surface. To me, that is the beauty of the experience. The beauty of a two-day adventure on the Halcyon is experiencing the unexpected. It is your You're Story. During your two-day adventure, you choose how deep you want to get into the storyline, into the back story, or not. Lightsaber Training, for example, looks pretty cool on the surface, and it is. But take a closer look. Look at how all of this fits into the Star Wars timeline. When you first board the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, you have the opportunity to meet the crew. One crew member will be part of “The Saja,” a group of many conducting lightsaber training onboard the Halcyon. Saja Katta was on board for my brief journey. Here's the backstory of the Saja. If you remember, in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the Empire, Director Krenic specifically, orders the destruction of the Jedi temple on Jedha, the first use of the Death Stars superweapon. The Jedi Temple had been under the protection of a group known as the Guardians of the Whills; remember Baze Malbus and Chirrut Imwe? They are Guardians of the Whills. At least they were before the Empire mined Jedha of its Kyber crystals to create the superweapon that ultimately destroyed it. After the Empire destroyed Jedha, The Guardians of the Whills survivors were scattered throughout the galaxy. The Guardians remained dedicated to preserving their knowledge of the Force. Descendants of this group became known as “The Saja.” Captain Riyola Keevan provided a safe haven aboard the Halcyon StarCruiser for the Saja, allowing them to use one of its training pods to teach the ancient art of the lightsaber. Though not Jedi themselves, the Saja can sense the Force in others and teach them how to find their connection to this mystical power. With that knowledge, you can conduct a deeper conversation with The Saja aboard your cruise or not. That's the beauty of the Galactic Starcruiser. Your discussion with The Saja may even lead you to discover that they are looking for some accent Jedi Relics, relics that had rumored to be on Batuu. Would you be willing to help them find those relics? It's up to you to live your Star Wars story. You can choose to dig deeper into the back story or not. https://youtu.be/MgV53EA5NvU

In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite Star Wars films: the 2016 film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" directed by Gareth Edwards - with extensive reshoots undertaken by Tony Gilroy, who cowrote the screenplay with Chris Weltz. The first anthology film set within the Star Wars universe, the film is both a sequel to "Star Wars: Episode III - "Revenge of the Sith", which came out in 2005, as well as a direct prequel to "Star Wars: IV - A New Hope", which came out in 1977, and serves as bridge between the events of these two eras of the epic space opera franchise. The premise of the film concerns a group of rebels who acquire intelligence that an ultimate weapon capable of destroying entire planets, called the "Death Star", is nearing completion and could be capable of giving the Galactic Empire the means to wipe out any form resistance anywhere in the galaxy in an instant; however, with the assistance of Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones), a former criminal, and her connection to Galen Erso (Jyn's father), the research scientist principally responsible for designing the Death Star, the newly formed Rebel Alliance see an opportunity to obtain the technical schematics of the Imperial battlestation from a secure facility so that they may lead to finding a vulnerability within its design that could be used to destroy it. The film also stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, Donnie Yen as Chirrut îmwe, Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, as well as other wonderful actors and other instantly recognisable and iconic Star Wars characters who have appeared multiple times throughout the film franchise. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

Topic: Star Wars Episode 4-6 + Rogue One Review   This week, we’re on to the original trilogy that started it all off.  We’re on to the original trilogy, the ones that it all off for myself and my mom.  Unlike the last ones, we both had more favorable feelings about these movies.  I can’t wait to show her the next set of movies and see her reaction to those movies, see if she likes them or not.     Rogue One Young JynErso is in hiding with her parents, father who is a lead engineer on the Death Star, but the Empire comes and takes Jyn’s Father away to finish the Death Star. Years Later, Jyn is picked up by the Rebels, seeking her father who is helping build the Death Star. Cassian Andor and K-2SO take her to the planet of Jedha to find Saw Gerrera, who just so happens to have a message from her father, mentioning an exploit. They pick up Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus in the process. Death Star above, led by Director Krennic, fires on the planet to test the Death Star. Grand Toff Tarkin takes over Death Star after test Rebel crew head to planet of Eadu to rescue Jyn’s Father, but fail and leave in stolen Imperial Transport ship. Director Krennic goes to Darth Vader to take command of the Death Star back, but fails and is told to clean up his mess. Rebels go to planet of Scarif to retrieve the Death Star Plans. The Main fleet of the Rebels eventually join to help with the fight. Jyn gets the stolen plans to the rebels, but not before Vader nearly has them in his grasp. Last scene leads directly in to Star Wars – A New Hope.   Ep 4 Star Wars – A New Hope Princess Leia is on the run from Darth Vader with plans for the Death Star. She gives them to R2D2 R2D2 escape to planet Tatooine with C3PO, but are captured and sold to Luke Skywalker Luke meets Obiwan Kenobi Luke leaves with Obiwan to give the stolen plans to the rebels, in the Millennium Falcon, Piloted by Han Solo and Chewbacca. Vader interrogates Leia on the Death Star and blow up Leia’s Planet of Alderan. Luke, Han, Obiwan, and Chewbacca arrive at Alderan and are captured by the Empire. They rescue Leia and escape the Death Star, but not before Obiwan sacrifices himself to allow them to do so. Death Star tracks the rebels to Yavin 4, and Luke agrees to fight the Empire in an X wing. Rebels are able to blow up the Death Star with Han and Chew’s help. Big ceremony at the end.   Trivia Luke Skywalker originally Starkiller Lucas opted for less pay on the movie in order own the merchandising rights Obiwan never says, “May the Force be with You” Ewan McGregor(Young Obiwan)’s uncle Was in Star wars, denis Lawson (Wedge Antillies)   Ep 5 Empire Strikes Back Rebels are in hiding on ice planet Hoth, Luke gets attacked and injured, seeing Obiwan as a ghost, but is saved by Han. Empire finds the Rebels and sends down an army to capture the Rebels. Han, Chewbacca, and Leia are running away from the Empire, can’t go to Hyperspace because Millennium Falcon is damaged Luke go to meet Yoda so Luke can learn to be a Jedi. Luke goes to save his friends, but fights Darth Vader. Loses his right hand and learns that Vader is his father. Luke is saved by Millennium Falcon and they all escape. Lando promises to find Han and Luke agrees to go and help save him.   Trivia Shots of Luke using the Force to retrieve his lightsaber were accomplished by Mark Hamil throwing his light saber and film being reversed. Carrie Fisher stood on a box for many scene with Harrison Ford due to their height difference, Fisher at 5’1”, Ford at 6’1” When Mark Hamill was having problems shooting scenes with Yoda, Frank Oz would bring out his Miss Piggy Puppet to make him laugh Scene where Leia says, “I love you.” And Han says, “I know.” Was adlibbed by Harrison Ford.     Ep6 Return of the Jedi Luke, Leia, Lando, and Chewbacca save Han on Tatooine. Vader dies, redeemed, Crew with Ewoks celebrate end of the Empire.   Trivia Harrison Ford only sign contract for two movies, but George Lucas convinced him to sign for a 3rd, believing that Han Solo still had more heroic stuff to do. Actor Ian McDiarmid would play the Emperor, and reprise his role 15+ years later in the prequel trilogy. Carrie Fisher complained that her costumes in previous movies were too long and people could not tell she was a woman. This led to the infamous Slave costume worn during early parts of the movie.  Costume was made of metal and had shots had to be redone due to wardrobe malfunctions. Mark Hamill opined that Luke should don Vader’s helmet after Vader’s death, leaving the ending of Luke character ambigious or ominous. George Lucas disagreed and went with the happy ending.

Go beyond the film with a novelization featuring new scenes and expanded material. As the shadows of the Empire loom ever larger across the galaxy, so do deeply troubling rumors. The Rebellion has learned of a sinister Imperial plot to bring entire worlds to their knees. Deep in Empire-dominated space, a machine of unimaginable destructive power is nearing completion. A weapon too terrifying to contemplate...and a threat that may be too great to overcome. If the worlds at the Empire's mercy stand any chance, it lies with an unlikely band of allies: Jyn Erso, a resourceful young woman seeking vengeance; Cassian Andor, a war-weary rebel commander; Bodhi Rook, a defector from the Empire's military; Chirrut Îmwe, a blind holy man; his crack-shot companion, Baze Malbus; and K-2SO, a deadly Imperial droid turned against its former masters. In their hands rests the new hope that could turn the tide toward a crucial Rebellion victory - if only they can capture the plans to the Empire's new weapon. But even as they race toward their dangerous goal, the specter of their ultimate enemy - a monstrous world unto itself - darkens the skies. Waiting to herald the Empire's brutal reign with a burst of annihilation worthy of its dreaded name: Death Star.

节目组:The Screen Age 荧屏时代 节目名称:Rogue One: A Star War StoryF: Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the Screen Age. This is your old friend Flat.B: This is Bob Bee. Flat, did you see any good films recently? I heard that there are many star-studded films.F: Oh, I don't quite like those kinds of movies,it's just meaningless commercial films with embarrassing point.B: I agree with you. Even the science fiction movie, Arrival, is so boring that I almost fall asleep when I saw it.F: But I would like to recommend to you the prequel of Star War, Rogue One. I almost became fans of Star War.B: So, why not introduce it to our audiences.F: Sure, let's begin.F: The story begins in the early years of Galactic Empire. Orson Krennic, a high-ranking Imperial military officer and a group of people come to find Galen Erso. His aim is to get Galen to come back to the work for the Empire.B: In order to protect his daughter, Jyn Erso, Galen tells her to run away. Jyn's mother is killed when she tries to stop Orson and Galen is taken away.F: Then, fifteen years passed, the Empire is plan to create a weapon capable of destroying entire planets.Meanwhile, on the planet Jedha, a pilot who has defected from the Empire and wants to join the Rebels. He escaped from the empire and carries a message from Galen which is really important.B: On the planet Wobani, Jyn is being transferred with other prisoners, but suddenly Rebel forces break in and free them. And then they go to the moon Yavin 4, the location of Rebel base of operations.F: The Rebels think that finding Saw Gerrera and the captured pilot is paramount to find out what the Empire is plotting. So they go to Jedha. On the way finding Saw, they meet Chirrut Imwe, a blind warrior and Baze Malbus, they help them to find Saw.B: After they find the pilot, Jyn gets the information form a hologram sent by her father. In the message, her father says that there is fail-safe in the weapon, Death Star, explode it and the entire thing dies.F: Knowing the important message, Jyn and a dozen other rebel fighters head to Scarif to find the Death Star plans. And they named their ship as Rogue One.B: After a furious war, they finally get the plan and send it to the Rebels. However the planet Scarif is destroyed and all the fighters are sacrificed.F: I must say, I'm impressed by the performance of Wen Jiang and Donnie Yen. To be honest, before seeing this film, I think that if Chinese actors go to play Hollywood film, it will be embarrassed. Not only the language but also the performance style. But in this film, the two Chinese actors really did a good job. Their English is good and the two characters played by them are really cute.B: Donnie Yen also show his wonderful action performance in this film. Seems like he is carrying the Chinese kongfu to the galaxy.F: The main actress is played by Felicity Jones, who also played the wife of Hawking in The Theory of Everything.B: This young actress really got a talent. And her two front teeth really drew my attention.B: It is said that in a good prequel, everyone should die in the end of the movie. So Rogue One is a good prequel. It had everything required to make a great movie.F: Indeed. Even I haven't seen the previous Star War movies, I can feel the excitement. When I heard the sentence, “May the force be with you”, I was as excited as the die-hard SW fans were.B: It's better than The Force Awakens, without too many light sabers and Skywallkers.F: Time flies, so this is today's movie, hope you like it.B: And may the force always be with you.F: 最后感谢制作张安康。See you next time, Bye.B: Bye.节目监制:刘逸超 编辑:赛碧乐 毕鑫屹 播音:赛碧乐 毕鑫屹 制作:张安康
