Chandler Baker is a New York Times bestselling novelist turned screenwriter, showrunner, and producer. Her first feature film, OH. WHAT. FUN. premiered on Amazon Prime Video on December 3. Seann William Scott, Michelle Pfeiffer, Felicity Jones… and my dog Blue barging in for a potty break. Yeah, this episode is stacked. In this festive-yet-chaotic episode of Pop Culture Weekly with Kyle McMahon, I kick things off with my buddy Seann William Scott, a.k.a. Stifler, who's back to talk Season 2 of his Tim Allen sitcom Shifting Gears (now airing on ABC and streaming on Disney+ and Hulu). We get into everything from tortured Philadelphia Eagles fandom and awkward Thanksgiving family drama to what it's really like shooting a multi-cam sitcom in front of a live studio audience. Seann talks about working with Tim Allen (yes, America's TV dad), navigating punchlines around real-time audience laughter, the magic of shorter 13-episode seasons, and why this show feels like comfort-food TV that still lets him be home in time to pick up his daughter from school. He also teases his upcoming horror film Dolly, a brutal 16mm French-extremity-style shocker that horror fans are going to want on their radar. Then we go full holiday mode with screen legends Michelle Pfeiffer and Felicity Jones, who join me to talk about their new Prime Video holiday dramedy Oh. What. Fun. Michelle opens up about why she signed on to the film, working with director Michael Showalter, and how the movie doubles as a love letter to overworked, underappreciated moms everywhere. Felicity shares how the mother - daughter dynamic in the film mirrors real life, why the story balances emotional truth with big, messy, laugh-out-loud moments, and what makes this holiday movie feel a little less “perfect snow globe” and a lot more “this is what my family actually looks like.” Watch Oh. What. Fun. on Prime Video here!If you love celebrity interviews, holiday movies, sitcom deep dives, Shifting Gears, or just want to hear me quietly spiral about the fact that I just interviewed Michelle freakin' Pfeiffer, this one's for you.If you dig the show, subscribe, rate, and share - and tell your friend who's always stealing your streaming passwords.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 21, 2025. The wait is over for "Wicked" fans as "Wicked: For Good" finally comes to theaters with a pretty good second act, though it doesn't quite hit the high notes of Part One. The musical sequel is worth watching for the sets, costumes, and Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo's chemistry, but it is missing really connective songs other than "For Good.” Also in theaters is “Rental Family”  with Brendan Fraser, a great-looking, deep-question-asking film about connection that gives a wonderful taste of Japan and its culture.  Finally, the ‘good movie’ train rolls on with the Netflix drama, “Train Dreams.” Starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, it takes you back and immerses you in a different time when life moved at a much different pace, and life shaped you in a much different way.  Movies were so good this week, producer KellieAnn even gives her mini-review of “Wicked: For Good” and “Rental Family” after Andy’s segment. And stay tuned for a deep dive on #Wicked2 this December.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy, with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.  Based in the beautiful Beehive State, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and Deseret News / KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.  Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, or on the KSLNewsRadio App. Join the conversation on Facebook @FanEffectShow, or Instagram @FanEffectShow. Then, they discuss ‘Wicked: For Good,' which they found deeply frustrating due to its bizarre story choices and one-dimensional characters (18:22). They hypothesize its potential box office, compare this year's press tour to last year's, and weigh its Academy Award chances (1:07:44). Next, Sean and Amanda briefly examine Clint Bentley's ‘Train Dreams,' starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, a deeply earnest and sincere portrayal of grief with some beautiful digital photography and an amazing collection of character actors (1:22:55). Okay, Ozians. The wait is finally over. The second and final part of the big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical "Wicked" is finally here. In "Wicked: For Good," Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba and Ariana Grande's Glinda use their vocal powers for good, providing a long but fitting climax. Both films combined have a running time of over 5 hours and, yes, it's padded. But thanks to spectacular production values and soaring vocals “Wicked: For Good” provides enough magic to satisfy all the Munchkins out there. In the sweet, low key comic drama "Rental Family," Brendan Fraser plays a struggling American actor in Japan who takes a job pretending to be the dad of a lonely young Japanese girl. While it works on a sentimental level, the whole setup glosses over some troubling ethical lapses. It's well-intentioned but tries a bit too hard to be heartwarming. Speaking of sentimental, the Norwegian comic drama "Sentimental Value" is about a famous filmmaker who tries to reconnect with his estranged daughters by making a comeback film about his family. Stellan Skarsgard, Renate Reinsva and Elle Fanning give terrific performances in an involving tale that will keep you guessing. It manages to live up to its 'sentimental' title without getting sappy. In the mood for a laid-back cinematic tone poem? "Train Dreams" is a beautifully shot Netflix period drama starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones about an ongoing series of tragedies that beset a railroad worker and his family in the early 20th Century Pacific Northwest. Tragic and austere, “Train Dreams" is a film to appreciate if not necessarily enjoy.

Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! This week, we're jumping into the gritty, morally murky corner of the galaxy far, far away with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), the first of Disney's standalone Star Wars films and one that dares to tell a story where the Force doesn't offer easy answers—and not everyone gets out alive.Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One is set just before the events of A New Hope and follows Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), the daughter of Imperial scientist Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), who's coerced into building the Death Star. Recruited by the Rebel Alliance, Jyn finds herself at the heart of a desperate mission to steal the plans for the Empire's terrifying superweapon. What sets Rogue One apart is its tone—it's a war film through and through. There's mud, sacrifice, and a real sense of stakes. The ensemble cast includes Diego Luna as the morally grey rebel Cassian Andor, Donnie Yen as the Force-believing monk Chirrut Îmwe, Alan Tudyk voicing the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO (a scene-stealer), and Ben Mendelsohn as the deeply petty but brilliantly acted villain Director Krennic. This isn't about Jedi or chosen ones. It's about regular people—fighters, spies, defectors, believers—laying down their lives for a cause they believe in, even if they won't live to see the outcome. That emotional weight gives the film a grounded, bittersweet tone that feels distinct within the Star Wars universe.Visually, Edwards brings a tactile realism to the film. The final battle on Scarif is one of the franchise's most spectacular sequences—land, sea, and space warfare colliding in chaos. And of course, there's that final hallway scene with Darth Vader, a terrifying, unforgettable burst of fan service done right. For those who've ever wondered what it really took to get the Death Star plans into Leia's hands, Rogue One answers with a powerful, self-contained story that expands the mythology while standing firmly on its own. It's bold, emotional, and a little darker than you might expect from a Star Wars film—which is exactly why we love it.This one's for the rebels.

In this episode, we're sharing details about our new release schedule and revisiting Rogue One with a rebroadcast of our in-depth coverage. Since Andor leads directly into Rogue One, it's the perfect time to revisit this pivotal film!In this rebroadcast episode of the Star Wars Generations podcast, hosts Matthew, Erin, and Alex dive deep into their analysis of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The hosts take a break from their Andor coverage to revisit this pivotal film that connects directly to the original Star Wars trilogy. Why Rogue One Stands Out in the Star Wars UniverseThe hosts discuss what makes Rogue One unique among Star Wars films. Erin describes it as her favorite Star Wars movie, praising how it grounds the franchise in realism and brings a more adult tone to the universe. The hosts appreciate how the film shows that not every "good guy" is truly good, creating moral complexity that was later expanded upon in Andor.Character Development and Moral ComplexityThe discussion focuses on Cassian Andor's character, noting how the film introduces him shooting his own ally to escape—an action that sets the tone for a morally complex story. This portrayal differs dramatically from traditional heroic characters in Star Wars. Jyn Erso's character development receives significant attention, with the hosts praising Felicity Jones' performance and how she portrays someone initially driven by selfish reasons who gradually buys into the rebellion's cause. The Film's Impact on Star Wars StorytellingMatthew highlights how important Rogue One was for expanding the Star Wars universe, demonstrating that compelling stories could be told without Force-using protagonists and focusing on characters who contribute to small battles rather than winning the entire war. This approach opened doors for projects like Andor, which the hosts consider among the best Star Wars content produced.Topics Discussed:How did the darker, grittier tone of Rogue One differentiate it from traditional Star Wars films? What made K-2SO one of the most memorable droid characters in the franchise? How does Orson Krennic embody the Empire's bureaucratic infighting and ambition? Why was Saw Gerrera's transition from animation to live-action significant? What continuity issues exist between Rogue One and A New Hope, and why don't they matter? How does the film's ending connect emotionally to the original Star Wars? Why is the Darth Vader hallway scene considered one of the most iconic moments in Star Wars? The episode concludes with all three hosts affirming Rogue One as one of their favorite Star Wars films, with Erin declaring she'll "preach about it till the day I die" and Alex suggesting it's the perfect film to recommend to people unsure about Star Wars or who think the franchise has been ruined. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. FIRST 37:00: Spoiler-Free Review with our See It/Skip It Verdict AFTER 37:00: Full Spoiler Review Another Oscar week See It or Skip It has us exploring this year's Best Picture field a little deeper by diving into the striking The Brutalist (2024), now playing in select theaters. Directed by Brady Corbet and starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce, this sweeping historical drama promises to blend grand ambition with intimate storytelling. Join Ian and Hermes as we step into the austere world of The Brutalist to see if it delivers a compelling, thought-provoking portrait of art and survival or if it buckles under the weight of its own vision. Does it bring a fresh perspective to historical dramas while exploring deeper themes, or does it rely too heavily on its style without enough structural integrity? We'll examine the film's storytelling—What larger themes and ideologies does it lean into? Is it a deeply personal immigrant story, a meditation on artistic resilience, or something else entirely? How does Adrien Brody's performance anchor the film, and does he bring the emotional depth needed for such a role? And how does Felicity Jones complement or contrast him?  We'll also break down the film's visual and atmospheric elements. Did the stark cinematography and production design elevate the film's themes, or did they overshadow its emotional core?  Finally, we'll debate whether The Brutalist achieves its ambitious goals. Does it leave a lasting impact as a modern cinematic statement, or does it feel too detached for its own good?  Yes, it's clever but is it fair to ask a film to 'get' a movie on such an abstract level? We'll tackle all these questions as we dissect the movie and tell you if we think you should SEE IT or SKIP IT!

Brady Corbet (Vox Lux) has directed a three and a half hour sprawling tale of a Jewish architect named Laszlo (Adrian Brody) who has escaped religious persecution in World War II Europe to come to America.  This epic drama kicks off with him arriving at Ellis Island in epic fashion, then restarting his career in Pennsylvania where he encounters a local industrialist named Van Buren (Guy Pearce) who hires him to take on increasingly larger projects.  Complications ensue as Laszlo achieves success but also struggles to adapt to an environment which can often be hostile to him, even more-so after his wife Erzsebet (Felicity Jones) is finally able to emigrate from Europe to join him.  Since being screened throughout the festival circuit last year (initially without a distributor), this film has received wide acclaim.  It has also recently received ten Oscar nominations including for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.  But is it WORTHY of such acclaim?    Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware

2025 is our year of the Oscar & BAFTA nominees, and this week we have this years 'Best Supporting Actress' nominee Felicity Jones joining us for lunch. Felicity is currently starring in The Brutalist which is absolutely phenomenal, and she told us all about how the beautiful film came together. We discovered the Birmingham born actress is very superstitious, how she got her first role in the radio series ‘The Archers', filming a Christmas film in the peak of summer, and why she will never be able to star in a musical! The biggest revelation is that we might even be related, or we all just love a wild Birmingham delicacy… We're rooting for you Felicity, best of luck with all of the award nominations, you're a superstar! The Brutalist is playing in cinemas now. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Dan Bayer, Giovanni Lago & Brendan Hodges to review and discuss the latest film from Brady Corbet, "The Brutalist," starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach de Bankolé & Alessandro Nivola. The three-and-a-half-hour film (with an overture, 15-minute intermission, and epilogue) has generated waves of enthusiastic praise, critical dissection, and astonishment over its independent production (shot for under $10 million) for creating such a grand and epic cinematic experience since its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. What did we think of the story, its themes, the performances, cinematography, production design, and score? Is it about the journey or the destination? Please tune in as we discuss these elements, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! "The Brutalist" had its world premiere at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival, where it received enthusiastic reviews for its direction from Brady Corbet (which won him the Silver Lion for Best Director), the tremendous performances from its cast consisting of Adrien Brody, Guy Pearce, and Felicity Jones, and the film's monumental scope on such a small budget. The Next Best Picture team was lucky enough to speak with many cast and crew members over the last several weeks, and we're happy to share this with you as the film is now playing in limited release and expanding to more theaters this January. It's Arthouse Tuesday on a Friday here at Breakfast All Day, as we review a couple of major awards contenders. First, we rave about "The Brutalist," which will end up on both of our year-end top-10 lists. Brady Corbet's epic is a stunning achivement (and a lengthy one at 3 1/2 hours, including an intermission). Adrien Brody stars as a visionary architect who travels to the United States after World War II, seeking artistic freedom and success. Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones, Joe Alwyn and Alessandro Nivola co-star. See it in 70mm if you can. In theaters now. Then, we catch up with the formally daring "Nickel Boys." RaMell Ross' film, based on Colson Whitehead's Pulitzer prize-winning novel, tells the story of two young black men who become friends at a reform school in 1960s Florida. Our fellow critics adore this movie, but we found its first-person perspective distancing (and, for Christy at least, headache-inducing). In limited release now and expanding to more cities in upcoming weeks. Finally, we did our last Movie News LIVE! of 2024 on Friday. Lots to talk about including the teaser for James Gunn's "Superman," Oscar shortlists, "Mufasa" vs. "Sonic 3" at the box office this weekend and more. If you've been able to join us at all this year for our livestreams, thank you for taking some time out of the middle of your day, wherever you are in the world!  We'll squeeze in one more podcast episode for you early next week before Christmas and New Year's. 'Til then, thanks for joining us and hope you're enjoying the holiday season! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/

Felicity Jones Interview: From Like Crazy to Brady Corbet's Epic, The Brutalist

Brady Corbet's The Brutalist is epic. In fact, it's a three hour and 35 minute epic that afforded Felicity Jones a rather unique performance opportunity. Her character, Erzsébet Tóth, doesn't appear on screen until about halfway through the film, after its 15-minute intermission. The Brutalist begins by focusing on Adrien Brody's László Toth, a famous architect who flees post-war Europe with hopes of building a new life in America. Separated from his wife, Jones' Erzsébet, during the war, he settles in Pennsylvania alone with hopes she'll join him there soon. Eventually, László gets what appears to be a dreamy offer from a wealthy industrialist, Guy Pearce's Harrison Lee Van Buren. After coming to learn about László's famed work overseas, Harrison hires him to craft his own dream project, to build a grand scale community center in honor of his late mother. It's an opportunity for László to establish a foundation in his new home no doubt, but it's also one that's riddled with complications involving legacy and power. While Jones may not appear on screen during that period, Erzsébet's presence is felt via her own voice over and what she means to László. Essentially, the audience spends half the film awaiting her arrival and fantasizing about how it might play out. When the moment does finally come, anticipation is through the roof, and Jones makes the most of it. When Erzsébet enters the picture, alongside their niece Zsófia (Raffey Cassidy), it quickly becomes abundantly clear that she is an undeniable force determined to build the best possible life for her family in their new home. With The Brutalist now playing in select theaters, Jones joined me for a Collider Ladies Night interview to revisit the path she's carved for herself in cinema thus far, and to discuss making The Brutalist with Corbet, including her experience working on one particularly intense emotional beat that might very well be one of the best scenes of 2024.
