Fifty boys start walking, three warnings get you shot, and somehow we are the ones out of breath. In this week's Mindframes, Michael and Dave march into The Long Walk—where Cooper Hoffman broods, David Jonsson keeps the heart beating, and Mark Hamill cosplays as your least favorite PE teacher. In this episode, hosts Sean and Lexi passionately discuss three Stephen King adaptations: 'The Night Flyer,' 'Graveyard Shift,' and 'The Dark Half.' They delve into the plot intricacies, notable performances, particularly by Miguel Ferrer, Brad Dourif, and Timothy Hutton, and the unique elements that distinguish these films. The episode also features humorous tangents, reflections on the actors' methods, and the bizarre elements that make King's stories unforgettable. The jury, metaphorically represented by Sean in a judge's outfit, delivers verdicts on the films' quality and entertainment value, mixing deep analysis with light-hearted commentary. 00:00 Introduction and Holly's Return 00:21 New Shows and Patreon Updates 02:08 Soundboard and Podcast Dynamics 03:45 Stephen King September 07:36 Smoking Habits and Nostalgia 12:57 Night Flyer Discussion 56:04 Analyzing the Drifter Character 56:30 Actor Spotlight: David Andrews and Frank Welker 58:12 Warwick's Character and New England Accents 01:00:53 Plot Breakdown: The String Factory and the Monster 01:01:19 Warwick's Villainy and Workplace Harassment 01:04:51 The Bizarre Factory Basement and the Monster Reveal 01:06:15 Comparing the Movie to the Book 01:12:02 The Movie's Ending and Final Thoughts 01:15:12 Stephen King Adaptations and Future Episodes Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a textRemember the Arnold Schwarzenegger film "The Running Man" from 1987? Remember how cool it was? We sure do. A reality TV series where the contestants have to run through an earthquake-ravaged Los Angeles while being stalked by actual killers with names like "Buzz Saw", "Sub Zero" & "Fireball" who were actually trying to kill you, it's no wonder this was a childhood favorite. Can this Sci-Fi, big-budgeted Arnold action from the '80s still be good? We're hoping for big ratings from the Ultra-Violent reality game show.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?
In honor of The Life of Chuck, we're talking Stephen King. This week, we talk about the King stories that we want to see adapted next.
After the guestapaloozas of recent weeks, we're back to just one guest on this week's Empire Podcast. But what a guest it is, as the great Tatiana Maslany, star of the new Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, pops up on Zoom to talk with Chris Hewitt about death and Comedy Bang Bang. [25:00 - 43:07 approx] In the podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer to discuss their favourite Stephen King movies, review The Monkey, The Order, and I'm Still Here, while the movie news section is rudely interrupted by some actual movie news, prompting a deep dive into the revelation about the future of the James Bond movies. That can be found, roughly, from 50:04 - 1:04:12, if you're not into all things 007. Enjoy.

"The Shawshank Redemption," directed by Frank Darabont and released in 1994, is a cinematic masterpiece that has stood the test of time. Based on Stephen King's novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," the film navigates the life of Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), wrongfully convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover."The Shawshank Redemption" excels in storytelling, weaving a poignant tale of hope, friendship, and redemption. Andy's journey, marked by resilience and intelligence, is a compelling narrative backbone. The film's pacing is deliberate, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the Shawshank State Penitentiary's oppressive environment. Darabont's screenplay, adapted from King's novella, is a fine example of narrative adaptation, retaining the source material's essence while adding cinematic depth. The storytelling is enhanced by the narration of Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), whose perspective provides depth and emotional resonance. The narrative elegantly explores themes of institutionalization, corruption, and the human spirit's indomitability. The plot's twists, particularly Andy's meticulously planned escape, are executed with precision, leaving a lasting impact.Tim Robbins delivers a nuanced performance as Andy, capturing his stoicism, intelligence, and hidden emotional turmoil. Andy's transformation from a despairing prisoner to a symbol of hope is portrayed with subtlety and depth. Robbins' chemistry with Morgan Freeman, who plays Red, is a highlight. Freeman's portrayal of Red — a man hardened by the realities of prison life yet profoundly impacted by Andy's friendship — is exceptional. His voiceover adds a lyrical quality to the film, enhancing its storytelling. The supporting cast, including Bob Gunton as Warden Norton and Clancy Brown as Captain Hadley, provide formidable antagonistic forces, embodying the corrupting influence of the prison system. Their performances add layers to the film's exploration of power and moral decay. The film's exploration of hope as an unassailable human spirit's element is its most powerful theme. Andy's unwavering hope, despite the injustices he faces, inspires not only his fellow inmates but also the audience. The film also delves into the concept of freedom — both physical and psychological. It portrays how institutionalisation can erode individual identity, a theme poignantly captured in Brooks Hatlen's (James Whitmore) storyline.Roger Deakins' cinematography is stellar, capturing the bleakness of prison life juxtaposed with moments of transcendent beauty, like the iconic rooftop beer scene. The film's score, composed by Thomas Newman, is hauntingly beautiful, adding emotional depth to the narrative. The production design meticulously recreates the prison setting, contributing to the film's immersive experience."The Shawshank Redemption" is not just a film about a prison break; it is a profound exploration of the human condition. Its enduring appeal lies in its universal themes of hope, friendship, and the pursuit of freedom. Darabont's direction, coupled with outstanding performances and technical artistry, cements this film as a timeless classic. It resonates deeply with audiences, reminding us of the power of hope and the resilience of the human spirit. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcast If you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or get guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew

Hail to the king, baby! The King of Horror, that is! This week on Movies For Life, we're talking about a couple of our favorite film adaptations of the works of the one and only Stephen King. First up on the episode is Michele's pick of PET SEMATARY from 1989, directed by Mary Lambert. The darkly comic meditation on grief and death still packs a huge punch to both of us, especially as we realize our personal reasons for feeling that way and how this story might actually be the most terrifying one King has ever written. Then we discuss Brian's pick of John Carpenter's 1983 film version of CHRISTINE! It's a film that has moved up in the ranks for both of us in terms of Carpenter movies and King adaptations, and we talk about all the reasons why. How we both see the main characters in different ways than we have before, and the very real symbolism behind just what a "Christine" can really mean and do to a person. Throughout the episode, you'll hear the three of us discuss such varied topics as: the way this podcast is about presenting new thoughts and ideas, a Classic Rockin' Commercial, the second time in fact being the charm, working in a theremin, arbitrary scales, working on impressions between takes, and occasionally we part from our tangents to rank the best and worst Stephen King Adaptations! This week, Ron takes the guys through the first 20 years of Stephen King movies and miniseries!! Thank you for joining us on this journey to wherever and we're sure you'll always be highly ranked as you listen to our Kingly podcast! Please like/subscribe and leave comments below! Let us know your thoughts on Stephen King adaptations, what movies/miniseries we under and overrated, your favorite adaptations, settle the Jeff/Ron debates, positivity chains (encourage one another!), any future reports you'd like us to do, and if you are interested in being an official Deckhead!P.S. “People want to know why I do this, why I write such gross stuff. I like to tell them I have the heart of a small boy... and I keep it in a jar on my desk."~ Stephen KingP.P.S. Stay Safe, Stay Wild, and Bite the Edge!
SURE, YOU'VE SEEN THE SHINING AND PET SEMATARY, BUT HAVE YOU SEEN ANY OF THE DOLLAR BABIES? THAT FAMOUS FAILED BROADWAY SHOW? THAT MOTION COMIC SPONSORED BY A MOBILE COMPANY? It would be futile to think anyone would come to us at Genre Grinder for a Stephen King episode, especially considering how many fantastic podcasts are already devoted exclusively to the author's work, but what about those oddball adaptations that didn't get an international theatrical release? Join Gabe and returning guest Betsy Jorgensen of Your Favorite Monsters podcast as they take a look at four truly unique King adaptations, including John Woodward's Disciples of the Crow (one of the earliest of King's Dollar Babies, 1985), Michael Gore/Dean Pitchford's Carrie: The Musical (or at least a combination of filmed versions), a 25-episode motion comic micro-series based on Stephen King's N. (2008), and Anurag Kashyap's surrealistic, Bollywood black comedy No Smoking (2007). 00:00 – Intro 06:31 – Disciples of the Crow (and other Dollar Babies) 30:27 – Carrie: The Musical 1:12:05 – Stephen King's N. 1:33:31 – No Smoking 1:53:09 – Outro Check out Shawn S. We have a really fun discussion for you today about our favorite Stephen King adaptations. However, before we get to that, we wanted to take a moment to talk about the recent events in Texas and Ukraine. This is a tough time, and it's easy to feel frustrated and powerless. If you want to help and are financially able, there's a lot of great organizations that could really use your help. We have links below and on our website to a variety of organizations fighting to combat the recent laws targeting trans children in Texas, or providing help to those impacted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is a difficult time for a lot of people, but it's important to remember that even small acts of kindness and charity can mean the world to someone. Thank you very much, and with that, let's talk about Stephen King! On the first episode of The Reel Deal, Noah and Teddy discuss Doctor Sleep, and Stephen King adaptations. Also, the new Soul and Invisible Man trailers, along with Batman news.
In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) take a look at one of the most prolific and adapted writers of all time, Mr. Stephen King. But, before we get into running down our favorite adaptations we take some time for a brief What We've Been Watching; and we take time to pay tribute to the late great Harry Dean Stanton (who shockingly enough might show up on one of our lists). Stay tuned for a Part II / Bonus Episode of sorts where I talk with our resident King aficionado (and Host of The Four Color Ark Podcast - Listen Rate Review and Subscribe!) Matthew J. Blanchard.
