On our latest podcast, we take a look at the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 3rd and the 5th February (Episodes #11,483 - 11,488). Although Corrie had to tie up the 'What happened to Amy?' thread and of course throw in a few Carla scenes to appease the hungry fans, the vast majority of the action centred around the fire at the Platts' house this week. If you enjoyed last year's Whodunnits centred around Lauren and Joel, you're in luck because Corrie has dipped into the same well again this week by presenting a number of suspects for the arson - did Abi torch the house to cover her tracks? Leanne to get revenge on her boyfriend-stealing sister? David to claim on the insurance? Or maybe the culprit is a character we may not be supposed to suspect at this point - someone who hasn't yet had the chance to explain their movements in the minutes before that match was tossed through the letterbox... After exhausting our thoughts and theories about the week's episodes, we take a trip to The Kabin, where we celebrate Corrie's win at the Broadcast Awards, then we hear some listeners' thoughts on the fire in the feedback section. At this time, it strikes me that we have an opportunity to look at our lives and our businesses in a new way and maybe get creative about what the future can bring. So, I thought it would be good to talk about creativity and get some techniques and advice from my guest this week, BAFTA award-winning comedy writer and creativity expert, Tim Reid. Bio Tim Reid is a multiple award-winning comedy writer, best known for co-creating and co-writing the BAFTA winning sitcom, CAR SHARE. As well as winning the BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy, CAR SHARE also won Best Original Programme at the Broadcast Awards, 2016; Most Popular Comedy Series at the National Television Awards, 2016; and Best TV Entertainment Programme at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards. In addition to being a successful comedy writer, Tim is a world class innovation expert, and he’s passionate about combining these two skills to help businesses become as creative as comedians. Tim has worked for some of the worlds most creative organisations, including global ad agencies, innovation consultancies and the BBC. He’s helped clients from beer brands to broadcasters, confectioners to condom makers reimagine the future and re-invent their businesses. Tim is quite possibly unique in the world of advertising having worked in every discipline available in an ad agency. He started his career as an adman at J Walter Thompson as a Media Planner, before moving to McCann Erickson as an Account Director, then Strategic Planner, and finally as an award-winning Copywriter. Tim’s unwillingness to be boxed in by a job title or discipline reflects his approach to creativity, and his ethos in inspiring creative thinking in others. From his unique position as both a successful innovation consultant and comedy writer, Tim has drawn together a practical guide to applying the trade secrets used by top creative professionals, comedians and writers. During the process of writing, developing, and filming a major sitcom for BBC One, Tim learned first-hand how many of the same tools and techniques of creativity and idea generation are used by writers, comedians and commercial innovators alike. As well as sharing these ‘trade secrets’ through his keynote speeches, Tim continues to coach companies in innovation and is currently working on new sitcom formats and screenplay scripts. Tim is a master at keeping audiences actively engaged and positively energised. Whether it’s getting people on their feet and playfully interacting or switching on different parts of their brains through quick mental exercises, Tim can make sure your audience is alive, alert and full of energy throughout your event. James Jones and Olivier Sarbil and Face2Face host David Peck talk about their new film On The Presidents Orders, ego and vanity, trust and inconvenient complexities, the war on and drugs and poverty and activism. Trailer Playing at Hot Docs 2019 Synopsis: From acclaimed investigative filmmakers James Jones and Olivier Sarbil (Mosul, 2017) comes On The President's Orders, the searing story of President Duterte's brutal campaign against drug dealers and users in the Philippines. Shot in the style of a thriller, this observational film combines the look and feel of a narrative feature film with a real-life journalistic investigation into a campaign of killings. In May 2016, Rodrigo Duterte won a landslide presidential victory in the Philippines, promising to eradicate the country's drug problem by whatever means necessary. His ensuing drug war has led to the deaths of thousands of alleged drug dealers and users. When a new police chief, Jemar Modequillo, is brought in to clean up the infamous Caloocan district of Manila, Jones and Sarbil gain unprecedented access to both the police and the desperately poor neighborhood they operate in. Modequillo’s aim is to curb the bloodshed by boosting actual arrests of suspected traffickers and users. Filmed over almost a year, the film investigates the activities of Modequillo’s force, as it gradually becomes clear that even though the president and the police have promised an end to the extra-judicial killings, deaths continue and many suspect the police are still behind it. For more info on the film head here. About the Directors: James Jones is an award-winning British director who makes documentary films for international television and theatrical release. His documentaries tackle important issues through powerful personal stories told in a filmic style and narrative. He has made films about police shootings in America, suicide in the military, wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and undercover investigations in Saudi Arabia and North Korea. His background in current affairs investigations means the films still have a hard journalistic edge while using the craft techniques of documentary. His films have won two Emmys, three DuPonts, a Grierson, a Rory Peck, a Frontline Club, a Royal Television Society, a Broadcast Award, two Overseas Press Club of America, two Golden Nymphs, and a Venice TV Award, as well as being nominated five times at the BAFTAs. Recently, he co-directed the Emmy-winning Mosul with Olivier Sarbil. Olivier Sarbil is an award-winning French documentary director and Emmy-winning cinematographer based in London. Over the past decade, Olivier has covered conflicts and critical social issues across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America. With strong visual storytelling, Olivier’s films are intimate and human, conveying emotions through beautiful and cinematic imagery. His work has been recognised with awards from a variety of organisations, including, Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography, DuPont, Royal Television Society, One World Media, Overseas Press Club of America, Broadcast Awards, Bayeux-Calvados for war correspondents (twice), Golden Nymph, Rory Peck, Venice TV Award, Frontline Club, Grand Award and Gold Medal at the New York Festivals International TV & Film.
