While she may be best known for her acting and singing, Vanessa Hudgens, is not new to entrepreneurship. The 34-year-old star, with 49 million Instagram followers, is behind Caliwater, a cactus water she said she drinks every morning. She also has a margarita line, which she co-created with Ashley Benson and Rosario Dawson for Thomas Ashbourne.  She first launched Know Beauty in 2021 with singer, Madison Beer. It was a somewhat complicated concept in which users used a DNA kit, which was used to pair them with personalized products matched to their skin type and concerns. Hudgens admits it didn't land and decided to go back to the drawing board entirely. Yesterday, she re-launched Know Beauty as a completely different brand. This time, it is sold on Amazon and has just one product, the $35 Glacial Bay Clay Mask. Hudgens partnered on the formulation with Cosmos Labs founder and CEO Mary Berry. And she noted in the conversation that the brand will continue to be "mask-forward."  In the first Pop Edition of the Glossy Beauty Podcast, Hudgens discusses what motivated the reinvention, what makes Know's starting SKU different and why Amazon made sense as a launch retail partner.

Summary: We were honored to have our first author guest on the podcast, Jessa Maxwell! The Golden Spoon, which we discussed in episode 23, is available wherever you get your books today (March 7, 2023). Holly and Jessa discuss the book, key points of which were:  Maxwell had always wanted to write a book (inspired by Lucy Foley) and was passionate about a locked room mystery. During the pandemic, she finally decided to go for it and after hours of drawing while The Great British Baking Show played in the background, she found her starting point. This novel took her only three months to write! Once inspiration struck, it all came together quickly and she didn't even need to consult with anyone who had actually been on a cooking or baking show.  Though there are many characters to juggle in the book, Maxwell felt confident in what each brought to the plot and didn't struggle with telling them apart as she wrote. Holly personally felt she could keep everything straight more easily because of the press release featured at the start of the story.  Betsy, the host of the competition, is widely known as a kindly grandmother figure and has been famous for a long time. Maxwell enjoyed delving into her private life vs. public experience and how people are not always what they seem.  Maxwell would love Mary Berry to read The Golden Spoon, but everyone should give it a try! Whether you're passionate about murder mysteries, cooking competitions, or creepy mansions with secrets to hide - this book is for you!  Jessa's Hot on the Shelf: The Reunion by Kayla Olsen What's Making Jessa's Heart Race: Mike Birbiglia's new broadway show, The Old Man and the Pool   Instagram: @heartsanddaggerspod Website: www.heartsanddaggerspod.com   If you like what you hear, please tell your friends and rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and Spotify so that we can find our perfect audience.

Who doesn't dream of sitting down to tea and cake with Mary Berry? Well luckily, that dream came true for me – and this week I'm asking you to join me. Tea with no sugar for me thanks, because we've also got a slice of salted caramel cake to get through too! I visited Mary a couple of weeks ago, at her home in Henley. Her kitchen was a hive of activity, with her Christmas recipes being tried out, from her new book and TV series, Cook and Share. Over tea and cake in the conservatory, Mary talked about growing up in the war years, with sugar and meat rations, and how her mum used to save up their sugar rations in order to make the odd pudding. She told me about her route into TV and the golden advice she was given about smiling and imagining she's talking to just one person when presenting her shows. I was struck by Mary's incredible work ethic and her overriding positive attitude to life. This is in spite of and alongside her personal experience of every parent's living nightmare: losing a child. I was grateful to Mary for sharing her thoughts about what we can do if a friend experiences bereavement – or indeed if we do ourselves. At 87, Mary remains full of enthusiasm for life, work, cooking, teaching – and was even positive about my suggestion of a surname change – one of my zanier daydreams!Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis Bextor, it is produced by Claire Jones and post-production is by Richard Jones. There is a spot of ground that is special to me. Perhaps you have one too. They often are not particularly attractive, but somehow they are places we can go to find quietness. Join me to tonight when we visit one of my special places as we go down to the cattle pond with the help of Wendell Berry.    Journal entry:27th July, Wednesday“Drifts of mist rise and ghost upon the water In the pre-dawn light. The air is deliciously cool. The heron is in the cow-splash down by the oaks I climb the hill And look down on dawn.   And wish for rain.” Episode Information:In this episode I read a very short extract from Simon Barnes' excellent, quirky, and altogether wonderful, A Bad Birdwatcher's Companion published (2005) by Short Books.  I also read Wendell Berry's poem ‘A Standing Ground' which can be found in his volume The Peace of Wild Things: And other poems published (2018) by Penguin Books. You can listen and watch Mary Berry read this poem here: ‘A Standing Ground.' For more information about Nighttime on Still WatersYou can find more information and photographs about the podcasts and life aboard the Erica on our website at noswpod.com. The girls also muse over the lack of arrogance in GBBO baking contestants,  and wonder if this episode portrayed Rahul as a little sad.
