Known to many as Kayleigh in Peter Kay's Car Share, Sian Gibson joins Kylie Pentelow to discuss her hit BBC comedy The Power of Parker which returns for a second series this week. Sian co-wrote and stars in the series as Kath, a mobile hairdresser by trade and the devoted mistress of her sister's husband. Set around the fortunes of the Parker family's electrical shop in 1990s Stockport, the next instalment sees a shift of power between the trio of Kath, her sister Diane and the object of their affection, Martin Parker. If you open the website for online retailer Shein, a pop-up immediately appears offering a ‘special deal' just for you. But are these savings what they seem? Yesterday the EU told the Chinese fast-fashion website that these discounts, as well as other pressure-selling tactics on its website, infringe EU consumer law and they've given Shein one month to respond or face fines. Mitch Labiak, senior business journalist for the BBC, explains more.Argentinian author Agustina Bazterrica's novel Tender is the Flesh became a worldwide sensation, with sales of over half a million copies in the English translation alone. She talks about her most recent novel, The Unworthy, which is set post-climate apocalypse in a walled sanctuary known as the Sacred Sisterhood. But is it a refuge from the disease and violence that exist outside its walls or a dangerous prison for the women who live there?Announcements of cuts to foreign aid this year from both the UK government and US government, amongst others, have left many organisations facing funding issues and putting their programmes at risk. As humanitarian crises continue across the world, including in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, with many vulnerable people suffering including women and girls, the need to provide aid remains as high as ever. Dr Helen Pankhurst, Senior Advisor on Gender Equality for Care International UK, and Sofia Calltrop, the UN Women Chief of Humanitarian Aid, discuss the effects of these cuts on women and girls globally and the importance of gender equality programming.Since Labour has come to power, there's been a number of issues that have divided the party. From tax rises to whether it should be a two or three-child benefit cap, the tension has been tangible. And with accusations of briefings against female cabinet ministers, what impact is this Labour in-fighting having on women in the party? We spoke to chief political commentator for the I paper, Kitty Donaldson, and UK politics commentator for Bloomberg, Rosa Prince.Presenter: Kylie Pentelow Producer: Kirsty Starkey

Mandy has a fear of admin and forms to the point where it makes her panic - just her? Penny just might be the only person on the planet who likes doing surveys!!! We talk tubers and planting flowers - of course we do! We talk the horror that is train travel - crowded, delayed and too hot - not nice! Is it any wonder we prefer busses? Penny recommends the Merlin Bird App - wonderful for identifying bird song. And do you have the clear skies overhead that we are enjoying in the West Country? Such a treat to see the stars! We talk the joy of when our babies have babies... not that Mandy is a granny in waiting or anything! And in this day and age, do you too feel like your friends are family? We can choose the people we want in our lives every day - just wonderful! We wax nostalgic over the communities of our childhood and how supportive it felt when you needed it. Crunch overcooked? APAC marketing chief says no slowdown as Uber plots grocery surge, ads business ramps up with attention, Carshare bids to cull 1m cars by 2029 – and why flipping ‘crazy' performance for brand pays

Mi3 Audio Edition

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 12, 2024 44:27

At one point “the performance marketing [team's] main KPI was actually how much investment they could deploy,” says Uber APAC marketing boss Andy Morley. “The mandate was spend, spend, spend … It was getting crazy.” But then they realised it wasn't actually working. Then they flipped hard to brand – well above Binet & Field's 60:40 heuristic – and powered to delivery market leader. Today Morley says both Uber's rideshare and food business has seen no slowdown despite squeezed wallets. Now it's driving into grocery and beyond with another brand-powered push: “Pianos delivered in one hour” are the CEO's mandate. For its rides business, removing 1 million of Australia's second cars within five years is the target and Morley says growth – and consumer behaviour change – is rapidly underway. Uber's moves into trains, planes and buses in the UK could signal the shape of things to come. Meanwhile Uber's ads business is starting to motor. Drinks and entertainment advertisers in particular are tapping people on the way to bars and on their way home. Morley thinks a shift to attention over increasingly challenged reach and frequency metrics will shape both Uber's own spend – and the media dollars it seeks from advertisers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Here's the Ithaca Minute for May 31st. Thomas P. Rath, a 33-year-old Ithaca resident, was last seen in the natural area behind Lowes, one of the encampment areas known as “the Jungle” in Ithaca's southwest, on or about May 17th, according to the Ithaca Police Department. “The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are suspicious in nature and law enforcement is concerned for his safety,” says IPD Sergeant Kevin Slattery. A former Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputy was sentenced in Ithaca City Court, two months after he was convicted of the crime of perjury, after years on administrative leave. Zachary D. Starner was convicted of a misdemeanor, “punishable by up to 364 days in jail” said the DA's office. “Judge Wallace imposed a sentence of sixty (60) days in jail followed by three years of probation supervision.” Ithaca Carshare, which offers on-demand access to cars throughout the Ithaca area for those who need a car once in a while but don't want the expense and overhead of maintaining their own cars, paused its operations in mid May as insurance coverage needs collided with New York State regulations. They're now asking community members to call their legislators this week to urge a solution. And the Ithaca Festival is the unofficial start of summertime, and the festival kicks off Thursday evening with the annual Ithaca Festival Parade, a showcase of community talent and organizations parading from Fall Creek to the Ithaca Commons. The parade heads south down Cayuga Street from Lewis Street at 6pm and the festivities continue with a performance by the Comb Down at the Bernie Milton Pavilion, starting about 7:30pm. Car Subscription, A New Way To Finance: Without Having To Purchase Or Take A Long Term Lease? Ep 83

IIn this video, we're going to talk all about What is Car Subscription? What it is, how it works, and the benefits of taking out a Car Subscription. A car subscription service is a relatively new way to get access to a vehicle without having to purchase or lease long-term. With a car subscription, you pay a monthly fee to a company that then provides you with a vehicle to drive. There are a few key things to know about how car subscriptions work: No long-term contract - Most car subscription services are month-to-month, so you can cancel anytime. This provides more flexibility than leasing or financing. All-inclusive fee - The monthly subscription fee typically includes insurance, routine maintenance, roadside assistance, and vehicle wear and tear. You just pay the one bill each month. Vehicle swapping - Many car subscription companies allow you to swap vehicles fairly easily, sometimes as often as monthly. This allows you to drive different cars over time. No downpayment - Car subscriptions do not require any downpayment or initiation fees like leases typically do. You simply start with the monthly payment. Now what are the potential benefits of using a car subscription service? More flexibility - As mentioned no long-term contract and easy swapping between vehicles. Access to different cars - Driving a variety of makes/models over time can be appealing to car enthusiasts. Convenience - The all-inclusive monthly fee and no long-term commitment simplifies the process. No used car ownership risks - Avoid used car repairs, depreciation, and hassle of selling it later. So in summary, car subscriptions offer a flexible new option that provides easy access to vehicles. If you want variety and less commitment, it may be the right choice for you. We covered the key details on how car subscriptions work differently than leasing and financing. Hopefully this overview helps you decide if a car subscription is a good fit! #car #carsubscription #automotive
