Are you bad at conflict? Does conflict feel triggering to you? It likely has to do with your attachment style and how your caregivers addressed conflict growing up. In this episode I explain what attachment styles are and how each attachment style deals with conflict. If you're anxious preoccupied you likely people-please and say yes to things you don't actually want. If you're dismissive avoidant you likely feel swallowed and trapped during conflict which leads you to be passive-aggressive or stonewalling. I share a few strategies to use for each attachment type. Let's try this again. Back in Season 1, we met our friend Stuart Schuffman, aka, Broke-Ass Stuart, for a recording at The Willows. We have to admit: What we did for the podcast back then is much different than what we do now. Let's just say that the episode is more about Stuart's whacky San Francisco stories than about his total being. Fast-forward to this summer, and we sat down with this affable SF character at The Wooden Nickel to hear his life story. Check back Thursday for Part 2 and more from Broke-Ass Stuart. We recorded this podcast at The Wooden Nickel in July 2021. Photography by Michelle Kilfeather
On this week's episode of the SF Weekly Podcast we chat with our newest columnist, Stuart Schuffman — better known to many as Broke-Ass Stuart — and we discuss what is quite clearly the biggest party foul of the summer: Not getting the vaccine. In addition to joining the SF Weekly team, Schuffman is also co-hosting a web series about the resilience of San Francisco businesses. Join us!
Washington Post Politics National Correspondent Philip Bump joins the show to discuss what's next for Andrew Cuomo following his sexual harassment investigation. ABC News Correspondent Alex Stone guests the show to update us on the Spirit Airline situation after they cancelled hundreds of flights due to ongoing issues with its computers, staffing shortages, and weather. Community Unity! Broke-Ass Stuart and Meaghan Mitchell join the show to share details of their new series: "When the Lights Come Up in the City,” which tours three neighborhoods to learn how businesses and community leaders pivoted to success during the pandemic. First up: the Bayview. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Yes yes y'all! This is the WORLD PREMIER of my new podcast Been Doin' This! In Episode 1, I speak to Broke-Ass Stuart about... well being himself. Where the premise of the show was to get another side of what people find themselves getting into Stuart is pretty much 100% himself and on his hustle. Going from making zines to a multi media poor man's activism web base his career has evolved in unpredictable ways over the last almost 20 years. While I couldn't quite nail down an ancillary interest or hobby one thing Stuart has BEEN DOIN' this whole time and since I first met him has been saying "Fuck Yes!" and seeing where it goes. Find him! @brokeassstuart on all socials and brokeassstuart.com Love you! -Sonny Phono
As his name implies, Broke-Ass Stuart's whole shtick is living a big life with little cash. But that's become harder than ever in San Francisco. The city character explains how he does it and offers tips for others. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Another one of our favorite SF dive bars is closing on October 6. The Hemlock Tavern is near and dear to our hearts at Bitch Talk. Not only have we spent many a night drinking and listening to local, live music in the musty back room, we also celebrated our 100th episode (200 episodes ago?!?) with a live event in said musty room. We thought we'd honor the place with travel writer, blogger, ex-Sf mayoral candidate, and all around good guy to drink with: Broke-Ass Stuart. You won't want to miss his eloquent ode to the bar entitled "The Hemlock Tavern is Trying to Kill You" (spoiler: he means it in a good way). Is it possible to define the influence and legacy of Anthony Bourdain? He was an inspiration to so many people in the travel and culinary worlds, including many past guests of the Pubcast. In this special edition of Pubcast Worldwide, four former guests return to the show to discuss the impact Bourdain had on their own travels and careers, and the broader legacy he is leaving behind. Broke-Ass Stuart, Ryan Drysdale, Valerie Stimac, and Nathaniel Boyle join me in a conversation reflecting on their first experiences with Bourdain, his raw, authentic style that set him apart, and the lessons he taught us about travel, culture and empathy over the years. If you’re a regular listener of Pubcast Worldwide, you know that Bourdain was a major inspiration for this show. Just as Bourdain was a master of sharing the stories of others, it only felt appropriate to have others share their stories in return. Listen in, as we raise a glass to honor the life of Anthony Bourdain. After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave a comment and sign-up for the monthly “Brewsletter.” Cheers!
