Well, that took a turn. In one of MotoGP's biggest ever silly-season decisions taken by a factory side, Ducati announced yesterday that Marc Marquez had signed for the factory Ducati team, in a shock reversal from the Bologna factory's higher-ups. According to Autosport and other reports, Championship leader Jorge Martin was offered the seat after the Catalan GP, but Ducati changed their mind when their suggestion to Marquez of joining Pramac was firmly rejected. Marc made a powerplay, forcing Ducati to make a decision, and pulled the trigger on turning Marc, red. As a result, Jorge Martin's now heading to Aprilia, in a shock 24-hour lightning turnaround of a deal. So what does it all mean? Why did Ducati change their minds? Just how good has Marquez been so far? And what does it mean for the rest of the field. Can Jorge Martin bring the #1 plate to Noale? What about the other forgotten man in the field in Enea Bastianini, who looks set to join Tech3 KTM? Will he clash with wonderkid Pedro Acosta? And what about the rest of silly season? Will Ducati lose Pramac as a customer as Yamaha makes a compelling case to buddy up again? Will Trackhouse take Joe Roberts, or someone like Joan Mir? Where do the GP25's end up if Pramac moves? So many questions, so little time on a huge Motorsport101! Oh and the Italian GP was mentioned too! (Special thanks to Lyla Carvallo for the wonderful edit, check her out at @lylasthinking on X)

Jim rides solo on this one and reports on the Catalan GP. This weekend's racing seemed backwards as the Moto3 race was the calmest of the weekend and we had two wild races in the MotoGP Class. The Moto3 race was won by Alonso after smooth ride to the front and riding the best last sector than anyone else. Moto2 was a wild race with the ugly onset of track limits causing many riders to have to take the long lap penalty loop. The most infamous of these penalties caused Aldeguer to crash in the long lap loop! Roberts had a track limits penalty and finished down the field, losing even more ground to Garcia. The best part of this race was that Ogura won after a 2 year drought. Finally two very crazy MotoGP races started off with Aliex retiring from the sport, winning a sprint race that no one wanted to win and then missing the podium in the Sunday main. Acosta crashed out again and Marc Marquez rode from 14th to 3rd on a soft rear. Oh, did I mention that Raul Fernandez had a career best finish in 6th for Trackhouse? Can't wait for Mugello!

The 2024 MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix offered up a raft of talking points as Francesco Bagnaia bounced back from a sprint crash with victory on Sunday. The reigning world champion crashed out of the lead on the final lap of the Catalan GP sprint to end a Saturday win drought dating back to the Austrian GP last year. It softened the blow of a difficult sprint for championship leader Jorge Martin, who was able to extend his points lead over Bagnaia. The factory Ducati rider bounced back brilliantly in the grand prix, however, to beat Martin for his third GP win of the season. Martin extends his championship lead to 39 points, while Marc Marquez rose from 14th on the grid to seal podiums in both races at Barcelona. Prior to the weekend, Aleix Espargaro announced he will retire from MotoGP at the end of the 2024 season. But he proved he is going out on a high with pole and victory in the sprint. In the latest Tank Slappers podcast, Autosport's Lewis Duncan and Motorsport.com's Oriol Puigdemont discuss Espargaro's career and the on-track action at Barcelona. They also look at the looming decision Ducati must make about its factory line-up for 2025 and why it's not as easy as it may seem.

Marc Marquez dominated yet another MotoGP weekend in off-track terms as he swept the paddock into a 'will he/won't he?'' frenzy at Misano with four days of speculation over whether he was about to break his factory Honda contract to join brother Alex on one of Gresini's year-old Ducatis for 2024.Then he tested Honda's 2024 bike on Monday and that prospect suddenly seemed a whole lot more realistic.Simon Patterson, Valentin Khorounzhiy and Matt Beer delve into all the drama Marquez created and assess the likelihood of the Gresini move actually happening in the Misano episode of The Race MotoGP Podcast. They explain why their levels of scepticism fluctuated through the weekend, and what the consequences might be for the rest of the Ducati line-up if Marquez made the leap. And our panel makes it pretty clear what outcome they all want to see from this storyline too.Another past champion at a struggling Japanese manufacturer team gets some attention too - Fabio Quartararo may not be leaving Yamaha before 2024, but is he going to spend 2024 trying to get out?The San Marino GP itself is also discussed - with some feisty debate over whether Jorge Martin's flawless domination was actually that impressive given how battered his main rivals were from the Catalan GP.Dani Pedrosa's amazing (but not amazing enough to satisfy one panellist) comeback and Takumi Takahashi's embarrassing one feature as well. And we also pay tribute to IRTA chief Mike Trimby after his sudden death in the middle of the race weekend, and explain just how huge his contribution to modern MotoGP was.Follow The Race on Instagram, Twitter and FacebookCheck out our latest videos on YouTubeDownload our app on iOS or Android Hosted on Acast. On the track Valentino Rossi took victory and for the first time since Sepang shook hands with his great rival Marc Marquez in parc ferme. Craig Doyle, Colin Edwards, Neil Hodgson, Gavin Emmett, Julian Ryder and Keith Huewen report from Barcelona on a tough weekend for the racing family. #Mexicano39 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Gavin Emmett, Keith Huewen and Julian Ryder are in beautiful Barcelona ahead of the seventh round of the season. After a disappointing engine failure at Mugello, will Valentino Rossi return to the top spot of the podium? Or will Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez win at their home Grand Prix? Elsewhere silly season continues to rumble on with seemingly no one interested in the ride at Tech 3. Could this mean an unlikely return for Cal Crutchlow?
