Le catch ou lutte, non pas dans une salle, sur des mousses de protection ou une toile, mais dans un ring de terre et de boue. Une discipline et un sport développés au niveau local, le « soft ground wrestling » (« lutte sur sol mou »). Reportage dans le centre d'entraînement à Mukono, à une vingtaine de kilomètres à l'est de Kampala. De notre envoyée spéciale à Mukono, Quelques centaines de spectateurs sont autour d'un ring de boue installé au milieu d'un champ. La présentatrice annonce les premiers combattants. Parmi eux, George Wamala, 23 ans. Son nom de scène : « Bullet » (« balle » en anglais). « On s'entraîne tout le temps : des pompes, des squats, pour avoir la force de soulever nos adversaires. On s'entraîne aussi pour la sécurité, pour apprendre comment rouler ou comment exécuter les mouvements sans blesser l'adversaire », confie « Bullet ». Prises aériennes depuis la corde ou le coin du ring, sauts périlleux, projections, etc. Sous les cris du public, en quelques instants, les catcheurs sont recouverts de la terre abondamment arrosée avant le début du match. « Être dans la boue, ça nous donne encore plus d'énergie. C'est incroyable de commencer en étant tout propre sur soi et de finir par ne faire qu'un avec cette boue. Cela montre qu'on a apprécié à la fois le match, mais aussi notre terre », explique Justin Omadi, le « Géant de l'Est », est l'un des principaux combattants du centre d'entraînement. Le « soft ground wrestling » est un sport, mais aussi un spectacle de plus en plus populaire en Ouganda et ailleurs, avec plusieurs centaines de milliers d'abonnés sur les réseaux sociaux et plusieurs millions de vues cumulées. Un engouement partagé par les combattants. « On vient de cette terre (boue), et on s'entraîne sur cette terre. C'est pour ça que j'adore ce sport, et c'est aussi en même temps une promotion de notre pays. Il y a une réponse positive qui nous donne de la force, parce qu'à chaque fois que je rentre dans le ring, j'entends le public crier. Et ça nous rappelle que cette boue n'est pas juste dédiée à la culture, mais qu'il y a tellement d'autres choses qu'on peut développer grâce à cette terre », estime le « Géant de l'Est ». Un catch ougandais porté par le fondateur et directeur du centre d'entraînement, Daniel Bumba, ancien traducteur en luganda des championnats de catchs américains. « Nous croyons que le catch va conquérir l'Ouganda dans les prochaines années. Les Ougandais adorent ça parce qu'avant tout, c'est très divertissant, et ça ne trahit pas leur culture et leurs valeurs. Nous utilisons simplement ce que nous avons ici, et ils croient en nous pour devenir les principaux catcheurs de toute l'Afrique. Et nous conserverons notre boue, car c'est notre identité », affirme-t-il. À chaque match, des équipes de cameramen capturent les combats les plus impressionnants pour exporter ce catch à l'ougandaise qui a reçu la visite de Mason Madden de plusieurs catcheurs professionnels américains. Jim and Rich dive into the crazy, complicated and confusing Grand Prix from Le Mans. The Moto3 boys kicked off the action on damp but drying tack on Sunday morning. The race was calm by the normal Moto3 standards, but the last lap more than made up for the lack of action. Kelso was looking for his first ever Moto3 win and was leading Munoz and Rueda. In the second to last turn Munoz dive bombed Kelso which caused both to go off track. This allowed Rueda to pass both of them and take a surprise victory. The Moto2 riders were forced to watch the back of Gonzalez for the whole race as he dominated. MotoGP was where all the action and surprises were. Quartararo shocked with pole position or Marc Marquez.. In the Sprint Marc used a smooth and patient approach to take the win over his brother and rookie sensation Aldeguer. On Sunday the weather played havoc with everyone as new rules caused chaos. Picking the right tire was critical as some riders went from slicks to wets to slicks and back to wets. However the man who made all the right calls was Zarco. He became the first Frenchmen to win the French Grand Prix in 71 years. Two French racers, one French race, who will take home the glory? We find ourselves racing the wonderful track of Le Mans this week as the MotoGP standings finally get a little stretched out due to an extremely wild ride in the rain!!! In qualifying on Saturday Fabio Quartararo did find himself an all time lap record, letting him take of from Pole for the first time in years!! Following the take off, he quickly found him self being gobbled up by Ducati's and finished the sprint 4th overall. Surprisingly enough, the 3rd Ducati to overtake him wasn't Pecco, but rather, the rookie Aldeguer, which we're sure Marc enjoyed quite a bit!!! Moving into Sunday, where do we even start? With a wet sighting lap, the grid found itself full of rain tires, but as we moved towards race start the rain stopped and asphalt dried up. With over half the grid moving to dry tire bikes after pit lane closed, double long lap penalties were served to a majority of riders in the field. But as the race got underway and into full swing, the rain started again, and chaos ensued!! The majority of the show is taken up with the breaking news that Jorge Martin met with Aprilia discreetly during the French GP weekend at Le Mans and told the team that he intends to leave at the end of the season via a performance clause that was in his contract that gave him an option to leave after six races if Martin wasn't placed high enough in the Championship. Oriol breaks down how this story came about, the logic behind Martin activating the clause in his contract, where Martin may intend to move to as a result if he fully commits to leaving, and what this means for Aprilia going forward if their news talismanic rider wants to leave despite just one GP weekend with the team so far.
