Switching lanes is daunting. You've already established yourself in a particular industry, built up your network of contacts, and carved out your niche as an expert in the space. What are the different kinds of imposter syndrome and how can we overcome them? What's the difference between feedback and criticism, and how can I deal with the latter? How can I stop taking things personally in my life? How can I build my sense of self-confidence on a daily basis? Geez, does Marisa Meltzer know how to get the wheels turning. We talk to her about her shiny new book This Is Big, which digs deep into dieting, wellness, feminism, body positivity, and the intersection of those topics—and also about friendship and snacks. Much to discuss, you see. But first! A truly odd (if entertaining) NYC campaign we didn’t want you to miss. The linkage: If you somehow want more on the Billy Never Idles campaign, well, here you go. Read Marisa’s book, This Is Big: How the Founder of Weight Watchers Changed the World (and Me)! Do it! Jean Nidetch’s NYT obit from 2015—and the whole Overlooked No More obit project. A wonderful article Marisa wrote a while back for Elle about diets + feminism. We enthusiastically endorse Katie Sturino’s Boob Sweat podcast. Marisa shouts-out this interview with CeCe Olisa in particular. Let’s talk about SNACKS real quick: Graham crackers (with cream cheese, covered in chocolate, or as part of an #indoorsmore situation), The Daily Crave smoked gouda lentil chips, and Tapatio Doritos. Produced by Dear Media
We are extremely excited to welcome the incredible CeCe Olisa to the podcast this week. CeCe is co-Founder of theCURVYcon, a convention celebrating body positivity and plus size fashion during New York Fashion Week. theCURVYcon is a continually sold-out convention and is sponsored by incredible brands like NIKE, LOFT, Dia&Co, Target and Sephora, while CeCe was named one of the “Top 10 New York Fashion Bloggers” by WhoWhatWear and a “person who proves you can be fit at any size” by MTV.com. We discuss building relationships with big name brands, finding and cultivating a community of likeminded people, separating the personal and private, all things personal branding and so much more.

As a result of Covid-19, the theatre industry is experiencing a mind blowing100% unemployment rate, with no real understanding of when or how that's going to start to change. In the midst of this, Actor's Equity, the union that governs and protects professional actors and stage managers is about to hold an election that will define the next decade of live theatre. Whether you are a theatre maker or a patron who loves to watch plays and musicals, this episode is a must-listen. We rang up our friend Brian Myers Cooper to come talk about what challenges face modern working class actors and what his vision for the future is as he prepares to run for AEA council again and lead our industry into a vibrant, flourishing future. ☕️☕️☕️ Why have just one mentor when you can have the whole internet? #TM2CPodcast is for anyone who looks outside of their box for inspiration and knows just how important a great mentor can be. Rick and Jess met four years ago, at an event in Australia put on by an entrepreneur they both knew. Turns out, that entrepreneur had met Rick when he attended his retreat VysionQuest in Bali. His time with Rick gave him the space to open up, ask himself what his purpose was, and it led to the idea for what has become a 100 Million dollar business that is driven by that purpose and passion. Since then, Jess has watched Rick help friends, colleagues and collaborators completely change their lives and discover their purpose. With the massive disruption Covid has brought on all of us, Andrew and Jess knew they wanted to bring on Rick, ask him to share his story and give our listeners some simple exercises to help turn this crisis into a huge opportunity. Be sure to listen toward the end, when Rick starts grilling Jess & Andrew! ☕️☕️☕️ Why have just one mentor when you can have the whole internet? #TM2CPodcast is for anyone who looks outside of their box for inspiration and knows just how important a great mentor can be. This episode is a valentine, lighthouse (and primal scream tbh) for all of our listeners who have been changing the world through the arts and activism and are facing the reality that we have been left with very little in this crisis. Our guest, Michael Skolnik, has been at the center of the major civil and gender rights fights of our lifetime - the racial police shootings, #metoo - and now, he and his agency The Soze Agency along with Task Force and Invisible Hand are the first to recognize the enormity of the crisis facing artists and activists and putting money where their mouths are. If you've been with us since the beginning, you know Amanda McCrossin, aka @Sommvivant, has been working as a sommelier at one of the best restaurants in the world. And now she's not. Say WHAT. After 10 years of working to build her reputation as a digital content creator in the wine industry, she's taking that terrifying step and going out on her own. Since this is a mentorship podcast, we all thought it would be pretty damn cool (and useful) to keep building on our original episode with Amanda and document the entire process, ups, downs and everything in between. Remember the movie School of Rock, with Jack Black? The cutie-patootie kid (who also happened to be gay) in that movie is all grown up now, and has used his talent and fame to stand up for a whole new generation of kids who need to hear that they are loved and seen. He's a life coach and a gay country music star who has a new song hitting the charts this spring. It is accurate to say that Brian "life coached" the shit out of Jess and Andrew on this coffee date, and it's also a great chat about why stories can be the most effective form of advocacy, how Brian owns the label "that gay kid" from School of Rock, and what words make Brian lose 50% of his coaching clients before they even start - and why he likes it that way. ☕️☕️☕️ Why have just one mentor when you can have the whole internet? #TM2CPodcast is for anyone who looks outside of the box for inspiration and knows just how important a great mentor can be. We’re told to be one particular shape and size, but we’re also told to love ourselves as is. Then if our bodies do change, the people around us can’t help but project their inner self image onto us, making us feel like we owe them to be a certain size. So what do we choose? And what the fuck? To dive into this topic, Katie brings in CeCe Olisa, blogger and co-founder of theCURVYcon. CeCe Olisa is the Co-Founder of theCURVYcon and one of New York's top ten fashion bloggers. She's been featured in everything from Cosmo to Marie Claire to InStyle to Refinery29 and more! CeCe has such a vibrant spirit that she brings into her conversations about everything from God to fashion to music on her Instagram and it's really beautiful to see. Shortly after meeting CeCe for the first time, I was invited to attend theCURVYcon and it was truly a life-changing experience. In this episode, CeCe and I discuss how I look to her content about owning our bodies when I need support in this area with my own body, her perspective on mindset and how it's passed down from our parents, the importance of letting go of our shame around working with therapists on a sliding scale for payment, how her relationship with God plays a part in her work, the power of theCURVYcon for women who often feel underserved in the fashion and beauty industries, and more! Episode Summary Cece and I wade into what I would call a gray area in the body positive community, an area I myself have pondered on for a few months. After watching Cece’s video about a month ago where she shared her weight loss story and knowing she has always being vocal about body positivity, I knew we had to sit down for an episode. Our goal is to shed more light on using the principles of Purpose Driven Self Care in a way that is empowering specifically for you without weight loss being the goal. Simply put, we can be body positive and not leave our health on the back burner. The two can and should go hand in hand. Favourite highlights Plus size or not there are people who are unhealthy and healthy on every spectrum.
