The Tyler Van Dyke saga continues to gain more steam throughout the day on Thursday. Will the Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback depart in the transfer portal for the Alabama Crimson Tide? How much does the opportunity of higher NIL payments weigh on his decision? Why is he coveted by Nick Saban and Bama OC Tommy Reese?Host Alex Donno breaks down everything we know about the situation and what Miami is doing to prevent Tyler for bolting in the transfer portal. Donno brings up the reality that Alabama gives Van Dyke an opportunity to win a championship and improve his draft stock that Miami cannot match. If Tyler decides to stay after all, should fans question his loyalty? Donno cannot blame Van Dyke for weighing his options. He points out that a Van Dyke departure so late would put Miami's quarterback room into chaos. Neither Jacurri Brown nor Emory Williams are ready to be a full time starter. Would Miami be able to land an option like Cincinnati's Ben Bryant or Oregon State's Chance Nolan in the transfer portal? You can chat with Donno any time on our new Subtext SMS texting service. The most-hyped game in the conference delivered in Corvallis on Saturday, with USC surviving an upset bid from the Beavers of Oregon State 17-14 thanks to 4 interceptions of OSU quarterback Chance Nolan. The Trojans' offense was far below the standard it set in the first three games of the season, but winning that game was still a massive outcome for Lincoln Riley's team in his first year at the helm. On today's episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin reacts to the first full slate of conference games in the Pac-12. Winners, losers, and everything in between saw week 4 deliver some dramatic endings and some blowouts, leaving some fanbases with optimism and others with a real concern about how 2022 might play out on the football field. Oregon State may have come up short of another upset of top-10 ranked USC, but the outlook for 2022 remains positive for the Beavers. Though low stakes in the broad scheme of things, Cal's win against Arizona could help the Golden Bears build momentum towards bowl eligibility this season. Similar to Oregon State, the Cougars of Washington State should feel optimistic for one reason in particular despite coming up just short after giving Oregon a very real scare up in Pullman. There are five Pac-12 quarterbacks who will be the most important when it comes to the conference crowning a champion in 2022. That's a different list than the BEST quarterbacks in the league, which is pretty well understood to be Caleb Williams (USC), Cam Rising (Utah), and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA) at the top of the list. Which guys could take a leap forward to bolster their team's offense in 2022? On today's episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin looks at some of the most influential quarterbacks in the league in 2022. If Michael Penix Jr. is able to regain his 2019 form with Kalen DeBoer as his play-caller once again, the Huskies could be much more formidable than in 2021. Which of Cam Ward, Tanner McKee, Chance Nolan, or Bo Nix could help their teams get better QB play than they had last season? Stanford Football for the last couple full seasons has been a shell of itself compared to its peak in the early 2010s. David Shaw is still there and they haven't had huge staff turnover, and have tended to promote from within when assistants have left. Oregon State Football's defense was arguably the biggest reason the Beavs won 7 games, and not more, in 2021. With new DC Trent Bray taking over on staff for Jonathan Smith, there's reason for optimism on that side of the ball in Corvallis. After narrowly missing out on acquiring former Georgia QB JT Daniels, Chance Nolan appears to be the best option for Oregon State at quarterback. Depth is a mild concern, but Chance Nolan should still be behind a good offensive line this year.On this episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Carter Bahns, senior writer/editor at Beaverblitz.com, to look at the Beavs' Spring Game in Corvallis. In the Spring Game, several players earned playing time based on their standout performances. One player who needs to see an increased role is WR Silas Bolden, who no longer has Zeriah Beason in the WR unit after he transferred to Washington State. RB Damien Martinez has arguably been the Beavs' best ball carrier this Spring, A slew of linebackers also performed well, a group including Kyrei Fisher, Andrew Chatfield Jr., and others who have to step up with two starting jobs available.Moving forward, the Beavers have a couple areas they can address before their first game is played this Fall--starting with the defensive line. Adding a transfer would be a welcome addition for new defensive coordinator Trent Bray. With the renovation of Reser Stadium, Oregon State is hoping it will build momentum around the program. The changes to their home field should help, but it's still about putting a product on the field that fans can rally behind.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Depth is a mild concern, but Chance Nolan should still be behind a good offensive line this year. On this episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Carter Bahns, senior writer/editor at Beaverblitz.com, to look at the Beavs' Spring Game in Corvallis. In the Spring Game, several players earned playing time based on their standout performances. One player who needs to see an increased role is WR Silas Bolden, who no longer has Zeriah Beason in the WR unit after he transferred to Washington State. RB Damien Martinez has arguably been the Beavs' best ball carrier this Spring, A slew of linebackers also performed well, a group including Kyrei Fisher, Andrew Chatfield Jr., and others who have to step up with two starting jobs available. Moving forward, the Beavers have a couple areas they can address before their first game is played this Fall--starting with the defensive line. Adding a transfer would be a welcome addition for new defensive coordinator Trent Bray. With the renovation of Reser Stadium, Oregon State is hoping it will build momentum around the program. The changes to their home field should help, but it's still about putting a product on the field that fans can rally behind. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods breakdown the newest batch of bad news for the Arizona State football program, two prominent players choosing to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal following the conclusion of spring football. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (ASU's top receiver and originally from Tempe) and linebacker Eric Gentry (consensus freshman All-American) have both decided to enter the portal. From SunDevilSource's Chris Karpman: "They would have been two of the team's most important players. Things are going from bad to worse for the Sun Devils." They also recap the lone spring game for the Pac-12 this past weekend, the Oregon State Beavers. OSU still three healthy quarterbacks now, giving last year's starter Chance Nolan some competition in practice. The Beavs also have a more aggressive defense under new defensive coordinator Trent Bray. Coming up this weekend there are four more Pac-12 spring games: UCLA, Utah, USC and Oregon will all be in action on the Pac-12 Networks (except USC will be on ESPN). Finishing off the show the guys discuss two articles featuring Pac-12 programs this week, the fall of Colorado's football program over on the Athletic and USC head coach Lincoln Riley talking about life throwing him a curveball over on the Players Tribune. As always Dave and Ryan spend the last part of the show answering your voicemails, texts and emails with questions about Pac-12 football plus lots of other topics. He'll do so against a Mississippi State program that is pointing in the right direction. Jim Harbaugh has a date with destiny and oh my is this game huge for Michigan. A day with a Buckeyes team that is on the come is well worth the hype. The winner of this game is expected to make the College Football Playoff, but this has to mean more for Harbaugh right? Bedlam returns for what could be its final act between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Anyone think the Sooners defense is playing like the Kansas City Chiefs D in recent weeks? Alabama has an easy task in front of them. Win and avoid all major injuries in the Iron Bowl. A game that usually gets top billing is now seen as a footnote because Auburn has crashed and burned in recent weeks. Do the Tigers have a miracle up their sleeve? Oregon's playoff hopes were dashed in Salt Lake City last week when Tavion Thomas returned to the lineup and gashed the Ducks defense every time he touched the rock. Sitting at 9-2, Oregon still has work to do in the Pac-12 and they better keep Chance Nolan at bay or their Pac-12 title hopes could be toast too. The Buffalo Bills were burned last week and the fans must be happy that Jonathan Taylor is nowhere in sight. The Colts RB lit up Buffalo for five touchdowns causing some heads to turn in the AFC East. With the Patriots also at the top, Buffalo needs to make quick work of a patchwork Saints team with minimal weaponry. The Patriots weren't suppose to be this good this fast, but is anyone surprised? Mac Jones is not the second coming of Tom Brady but he doesn't need to be. The defense has shouldered the load all season and Josh McDaniels' offense is slowly and steadily making strides to claim a piece of the AFC East. The Titans on the other end need some R&R and fast. With no Derrick Henry and an erratic Ryan Tannehill, Mike Vrabel's team isn't a lock anymore in the AFC South. The Colts are a big reason why nothing is safe for Tennessee and that' s because they have finally woken up. Remember when they started off 0-3? We sure do, which is why this run is much needed. Check the numbers on Taylor, take a look at the stats Carson Wentz is putting up, combine that with a defense that sits #1 in turnover differential and you got yourself a sleeper.
