In our upcoming two-part episode on financial intelligence for runners, we dive into valuable tips and strategies for maximizing travel points and credit card benefits. We start by chatting with Ben Kimenkul (@bensbigdeal on Instagram), who shares why marathon runners should consider earning travel points over cash back, and how these points can be a game-changer for race-related travel. Ben walks us through choosing between credit cards with or without annual fees, explaining the perks that can justify the cost, especially for frequent marathoners. We also discuss essential benefits like TSA Precheck, lounge access, and rental car insurance that can make travel smoother and more cost-effective. For those tall athletes who need extra legroom, Ben covers how to use points for first-class cabins and hotel stays to enhance your race experience. Ben also shares insider tips on using points to book last-minute flights, covering race entry fees, and finding the best credit cards for marathoners, like the BILT card for earning points on rent or the Capital One Venture X for families. He emphasizes the importance of strategic spending to accumulate points and offers advanced tips to avoid baggage fees, such as linking your reservation to someone with elite status. Following this, we talk to Chris Heuisler, the Running Concierge at Westin Hotels, about how Westin supports marathon runners with specialized amenities and services, including nutritious food options, tailored environments for performance and recovery, and partnerships with local race organizers. Chris shares insights on what runners should consider when selecting a hotel for their marathon travel and how Westin accommodates the specific needs of runners, particularly those traveling across time zones. Running can be intimidating to a lot of people. But jogging? It can open a world of fun fitness to almost everyone. Chris Heuisler of the Knob Creek Jogging Club talks about how a simple word shift transformed the lives of hundreds of bartenders. In this fun and inspiring episode, we explore: Why the word “jogging” made all the difference in getting non-runners to get onboard How runners' serious attitudes to the sport can actually be limiting How being more inclusive can increase enjoyment and longevity And Chris also gets Coach Claire to open up a little bit about her running story and how she finds joy as a coach. It all started at musical theater camp in Upper Darby, PA with Tina Fey (yep, dead serious). Chris Heuisler and I spent our middle school summers surrounded by fellow theater nerds basking in the glow of all day rehearsals, absolute freedom, and Dairy Queen, just feelin’ so cool. Life took us down different roads but over time, our identities as athletes emerged as the ones that fueled our souls. Chris scored a dream job as the Westin Global Run Concierge while I sat in my corporate office wishing I was more than just a Weekend Warrior. Both hard driving, high achievers, we learned what can happen to self-centered people like us when that energy is channeled in the wrong direction, as we both ran into substance abuse challenges as adults. But now, like a perfectly-timed tv drama crossover starring two washed up 40 yr olds, we find our storylines intertwined again, both sober, both on new paths, both still pining for those sweet, simple summers when we thought we had it all. @chrisheuisler www.notimetowasteproject.com or follow @notimetowasteproject
"There’s this possibility to live with this duality of life. You can both grieve and have a really, truly happy day. You can be really stressed and scared, and also be extraordinarily brave." In January, the world truly lost one of the greatest lights and coolest women on the planet: Andrea Halnon, or as she's known around here, "AndyJHa." Emily Halnon was the very first guest on the Ali on the Run Show, and is one of my dear friends, and when her mom passed away after a 13-month battle with a rare uterine cancer, it was devastating. On this episode, Emily returns to the show to graciously and openly talk about her badass mom's amazing legacy, and what the grief process is like. She also talks about how she'll be bravely and boldly honoring that legacy starting this Saturday: By running 453 miles across the state of Oregon, from the California border to Washington, in an attempt to run the Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Pacific Crest Trail. In doing so, Emily is also raising money for the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, which supports rare cancer research. CLICK HERE TO DONATE. "I was nervous. But it was the kind of nervousness that really drove me to work as hard as possible, be as persistent as possible, and as thorough as possible." Hawi Keflezighi is one of the greatest agents in running and track and field. As the founder and CEO of HAWI Management, Hawi and his team represent 30 athletes including Alexi Pappas, Nikki Hiltz, Aliphine Tuliamuk, and, of course, Hawi's brother, Meb Keflezighi. On this episode, Hawi talks about how — and why — he started his agency when he was still in law school, and explains what, exactly, agents do. He talks about being one of 11 siblings, and shares his family's story of emigrating from Eritrea to the United States. Hawi, who lives in Indianapolis with his wife and two kids, talks about what the American Dream means to him, and talks about why integrity is so important to him. Ah, brotherly love. In today's episode, we have returning guest, Chris Heuisler, and this time he is joined by his younger brother, Tim. In many ways these two couldn't be more opposite (as shown in this photo). At the time of recording, Chris was the Global Run Concierge for Westin Hotels, and is still is an avid marathon runner, father of two, doting husband, and oozes the All-American boy next door vibe with such ease. In summary, Chris is someone you want as your neighbor. He probably would mow your lawn when you're on vacation. Tim is the youngest of 5 Heuisler siblings, is covered in tattoos, and spends his 9-5 (which is never actually 9-5) slinging whiskey at industry events as the Master Whiskey Ambassador for Beam Suntory. He is living in NYC, although is often on the road traveling for work, and absolutely hates running. After chatting with these two for an hour, however, I think he would also be a stellar neighbor and might even mow your lawn if there were lawns in NYC. I guess being kind is just a Heuisler trait. Throughout this interview we dive into what it's like to be from a large family, the breakdown of their personalities and how they both arrived in the professions they are in. Family, relationships, and incredible birthday celebrations, this episode is meant to feel like you're sitting around the kitchen table with your own siblings and I hope it's as relatable and entertaining as it was to participate in.

With over 2,500 classes in the app and 50 new ones added weekly in a variety of categories – running, elliptical, race training, strength training, stretching – there's a class for every interest and fitness level. Ethan started Aaptiv from his apartment because he wanted something to help him lose the weight he gained at Wharton Business School. He was working as a consultant at McKinsey. And since he was traveling a lot, he needed something to help him get back in shape– on the go, and on demand. Ethan had no technological background. Nor did he have any background as a personal trainer. Which makes Aaptiv's success even more remarkable. I've looked at nearly all of the top health and fitness apps on the market. And I have to say that Aaptiv is one of my favorite. Ethan and his team have done a great job. The app is beautifully designed and based off a unique insight: Nobody wants to watch a video on their phone when they're running or working out. That's why their audio workouts make so much sense. And the workouts really are great– like having access to your own personal trainer for which you'd otherwise have to pay $150/hour. (You get to hear a sample Aaptive workout at the end of the interview when we do one of Aaptiv's 7-minute stretching routines. I love this stretch!) Personally, I've been using Aaptiv for several months now. I'm turning 40 in December, I've been trying to add strength and flexibility to my endurance. Aaptiv has been a huge part of that journey. Which is why I was so excited that they reached out to partner with us on their new Virtual 5K Program. We put up the bat signal (i.e., sent an email) to all our San Diegan Charity Milers to see if anyone could meetup for a walk or a run, and we got a great turnout for a little last-minute jaunt along the Embarcadero. It was a beautiful evening. And luckily I had my podcast recorder, so I could do a little live “Voices of Charity Miles” podcast with the crew. This was SO MUCH FUN! And what a group. We had a “Big Momma”, a “Chopper Momma”, a couple of Zombie chasers and even a few date nights. (You'll have to tune in to hear what all of that's about.) Also, to top it all off, my friend Justine Galloway surprised me by showing up. You may remember that Justine and I ran the NYC Marathon together last November. She has runner's dystonia which makes her trip when she runs forwards. So she taught herself to run backwards and ran the entire NYC Marathon backwards. She and I recorded a podcast before the race at the starting line of the NYC Marathon. So, it was great to catch up with Justine in this podcast so she could share with us her take on what it was like to run with me, very intimately, for six hours in NYC. “In order to find out what you can do, you have to show up. Give yourself a chance and see what happens.” —Desiree Linden When I launched the Ali on the Run Show in February 2017, I knew right away I wanted to eventually host live events. I love sharing conversations on this show every week, but human, in-real-life connection is so powerful. I wanted to have those conversations with a live audience. It was a dream in 2017, and on June 2 at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter — alongside Meb Keflezighi, Andrea Barber, Chris Heuisler, and Des Linden — it became a reality. Here's the full episode. In celebration of Global Running Day, and our exciting new partnership with Westin Hotels & Resorts, I'm thrilled to share this podcast that I recorded with Westin's Global Run Concierge, Chris Heuisler. Wait, what's a Run Concierge? Well, just picture a regular concierge at a hotel that can give you recommendations on where to eat, or what to do while in town. Well that's what a Run Concierge does– but to help you stay active and healthy while traveling. Do all hotels have a Run Concierge? Nope. Just Westin. That's how committed they are to health and well-being. And that's why we are so thrilled to be partnering with them. As you know, we seek to partner with mission-driven companies who want to help us all live healthy and make an impact. Westin is the perfect example of this. They are absolutely the hospitality industry's leader in well-being. And, beyond the hospitality industry, they are helping to blaze a trail for how all companies should think about their commitment to health. I've gotten to know Chris over the years, seeing him at marathons all over the country. As you'll hear in this podcast, is the genuine article, very much woven into the running community. (Though he was visiting NYC from Boston, we were hardly running 10 minutes before he started seeing friends like Dr. Jordan Metzl and Mike Cassidy.) He also has a lot of great tips that we'll be sharing throughout the rest of the year. Here's one: The World's Greatest Stretch. Personally, I want to especially thank Chris– not just for recording this podcast with me, but for being instrumental in helping us forge this partnership with Westin. Chris and I planted the seeds for this partnership over two years ago at a Rock N' Roll Marathon expo. Thank you, Chris for helping to make it a reality! #LetsRise #EveryMileMatters Subscribe on iTunes / Subscribe on Stitcher / Subscribe on Google Play The post Chris Heuisler, Westin's Global Run Concierge: Let's Rise! appeared first on Charity Miles.

Next, runner and blogger Jennifer Kyle, aka jbirdruns, describes how she began running, how she expanded from blogger to athlete ambassador, and how she balances the public with the private when writing her blog. Then, Amanda Nurse runs out of the Boston Marathon catalog and into the podcast seat to talk about her plans to train for the Olympic trials. She also shares how she first got into running when she moved to Boston and how she is now returning to running following the birth of her son. Finally, Chris Heuisler of RunWestin stops by to share a few of his many AMAZING stories, including his part in helping to honor Meb Keflezighi on his retirement and how he chatted with Shalane Flanagan on marathon weekend. Plus, Chris offers advice to new runners. Chris Heuisler is a lot of things. He is the RunWESTIN Concierge for Westin Hotels and Resorts, an actor, a father & husband, a competitive runner, and a really great storyteller. His job and excellent networking skills have gotten him in the mix with some of the fastest runners in the world, but we rarely get to hear more about who Chris actually is. Start your new year off with some great banter with one of our favorite people.
I’m fresh off a life-changing trip to California, where I spent a week road tripping from San Francisco to Los Angeles — alone. I learned a lot about myself on this trip. My only goal was to surround myself with beautiful things. I went in with no expectations and an open mind, and by the time I flew back home, I felt lighter, happier, and more fulfilled than I have in years — or maybe ever. So on this special bonus episode, we’re flipping the script: This time, I’m in the hot seat, and my husband Brian is taking over the hosting duties. He asks all the hard, insightful, let’s-really-get-into-it questions (including why I really booked this trip, why I never give myself credit for my successes, and why I often say no to things without considering the potential amazing outcomes), and I enjoyed digging a little deeper into my feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and dreams. Today, the Ali on the Run Show is going Gibbler! I am so excited to welcome Andrea Barber — best known as Full House’s wacky next-door neighbor Kimmy Gibbler — to the show. On this episode, Andrea dishes about all things Full House — including her favorite Kimmy moment, and yes, what John Stamos is really like. She opens up about what it was like growing up in Hollywood, what happened on the Full House set when the cameras weren’t rolling, and how she spent the 20 years between Full House’s finale and the resurgence of the Tanner family on Netflix’s spinoff Fuller House. (Spoiler: She got a college degree, a master’s degree, interned at the United Nations, and had two kids. NBD.) She also shares why she hates red carpets, and gets super honest about her history with anxiety and depression, and the postpartum depression she experienced after giving birth to her daughter. Today, Andrea lives in Orange County, CA, with her two kids (ages 13 and 10), and she’s a runner! She started running five years ago as a way to help manage her mental health, and she’s been hooked ever since. (Raise your hand if you can relate!) Chris Heuisler is the National Run Concierge for Westin Hotels and Resorts. He has every runner’s dream job — traveling the country to meet runners and hear their stories — and he beat out more than 1,100 applicants to get the gig. Chris and his team of concierges make sure runners staying at Westin Hotels know where to run — they’ll even run with you! — and they’ll hook you up with free New Balance gear to borrow during your stay. Chris, a former Equinox trainer and actor, also racks up some serious miles in the air: 100,000 per year, in fact, traveling to various Westin Hotels across North America to be on-hand for race weekends at Rock ‘n’ Roll events. Chris is also a super speedy runner (and sub-3:00 marathoner) on a quest to run a marathon in all 50 states. (He’s completed 20 states so far.) Chris — or “Uncle Huggy Bear,” as his family calls him — currently lives outside Boston with his wife, Rachel, and their two kids.
