Mixing the old with the new, The Prairie States was born out of a desire to put a fresh touch on a classic design. As seven time Country Music Alberta Award recipients, including the 2018 Rising Star, 2019 Horizon Group/Duo Of The Year, and 2020 Songwriters Of The Year, as well as 1st place in the 2018 Project Wild Artist Development Program, it's proof that this Edmonton based band is moving in the right direction. Mat Cardinal, Jeff Dick, Mike Nash, Doc deGroot, and Jay Der formed The Prairie States in 2017 and immediately started writing songs for their full length album, Lost In The Right Direction. Independently released in June 2018, it was nominated for the CMAB Album Of The Year and included three radio singles, which all broke the top 100 Mediabase Canadian Country Chart. Since then, the band has released two more singles, Every Little Town and Low Life, both of which also cracked the top 100. To go along with the release of Low Life, the band teamed up with Edmonton based Sea Change Brewing Co to create a custo m branded beer called Low Life Lager. The brewery made 17000 tall boys of this perfect summer sipper which included a Spotify QR code so the person enjoying the beverage could also “Scan The Can” to instantly hear Low Life. Their latest single, High That I'm Riding, produced by Juno and CCMA winner Bart McKay, is a euphoric Country rocker that gallops headfirst towards the indescribable feelings that only the one you love can ignite inside you. The Prairie States have been out on the road and wowing crowds with their undeniable live show. In their short time as a band, they've shared stages with Aaron Goodvin, Clayton Bellamy, and most recently Brothers Osborne and Canadian legend Charlie Major while kicking off the 2019 Big Valley Jamboree. Ready with a stack of brand new recordings underway with Bart McKay, this band shows no signs of slowing down. You're probably wondering why I didn't get a personal trainer/fitness expert for this. I wanted someone who has experienced the positive benefits of all of this from an active performer, who understands the artist aspect of this, who's been doing this for several years, who's busy, who's always on the road, who's in various projects, (which are The Road Hammers, Clayton Bellamy and the Congregation and Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion, who's won many awards including a Juno, numerous Canadian Country Music Awards, SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, A Radio Music Award and Western Canadian Music Award, who has been featured in People Magazine, The NY Times, and Rolling Stone an who's released five solo records and has songs recorded by Big Sugar Matt Anderson, Dan Davidson Jason Blaine W3apons FKB Willie Mack and more HE'S STILL ON FIRE!) who understands the struggle is real - to juggle everything as a human AND artist, then trying to add being active and healthy on top of that - but he also understands how important this is for you. Also, HAVE YOU SEEN HIM ON STAGE? He's performance goals! Vocally and with his physicality! You hear his song "Resistorz" in the podcast and you can find him on all social media under Clayton Bellamy and @claytonbellamy.

Over the next few weeks we are going to start seeing summer tour and festival announcements from an array of artists at all levels and I am so excited for them! If this is your first year or first time hitting the road as an artist or band - that's amazing! Whether you are doing a DIY tour or you have a team behind you -  taking your music on the road is one of the best ways to reach new audiences, travel, and hopefully have a memorable and great adventure — but any touring artists and performers will tell you that it's not as easy as it looks - it's totally something you're going to learn from and have fun with though! You gotta do it! From maintaining peace among band members and staying healthy, to dealing with iffy hotels/accommodations and endless hours in a car, time on the road can present unique challenges and maybe some interesting stories to tell around the holiday or for a podcast! Thanks to everyone who became a part of this episode! Here are stories and tips from experienced touring musicians, performers and industry professionals on how to thrive and survive on the road at any time of year!We feature Clayton Bellamy (Clayton Bellamy and the Congregation), Dan Davidson (Roots artist), Chard Morrison (songwriter/Shattered Glass), Drew Shulka (FKB), India Coran (RPM), Lisette Xavier (Pop artists), Jay Der (Drummer of The Prairie States), Demetrius Nath (Antiskeptic Entertainment/Maybe May), Ty Baynton (Country artist) and Ryan Davidson (Grammy Nominated Guitarist).

Dan Davidson Dan Davidson exploded onto the Canadian country scene in 2016 with the release of his second single “Found” (Co-written by Clayton Bellamy of The Road Hammers). Dan became arguably the indie story of 2016 as his single “Found” rocketed up the charts and he became the #1 charting indie artist in Canada. “Found” was the #1 selling Canadian country song in Canada for several weeks in July and August 2016. It had also #16 on the charts and was the 8th highest charting Canadian song in the country. The hit single also went top 50 on the Shazam charts across all formats and hit #15 on the iTunes sales charts. On just his second release ever in country music – he has a GOLD single. Dan’s sound came together as he started writing and working on music with Toronto producer Jeff Dalziel (Washboard Union, Andrew Hyatt, Autumn Hill, Brett Kissel) and the two spent the better part of a year developing an EP that’s characteristic of Dan’s love of “good time” music. Dan has shared the stage with Jon Pardi, Brett Kissel, Tim Hicks, Chad Brownlee, Gord Bamford, Corb Lund, The Road Hammers and so many more. What we talked about: Collaboration and Co-Writing Perception vs. Reality The importance of asking questions Reaching out and growing your team How knowing your story can open up opportunities. Dan’s 2nd release Barn Burner (another co-write with Clayton Bellamy) was released in late 2016 and also broke the top 40 and pushed Dan over the edge to be recognized as the Canadian Country Spotlight Featured Artist of 2016/2017. The song was accompanied by an over-the-top music video shot in Tokyo, Japan. Recently, Dan just won 4 ACMA awards at his first time participating in the event. He took home “Song Of The Year”, “Single Of The Year”, “Video Of The Year”, and “Rising Star”. Recently, Dan has been recognized as a 2-time CCMA Award nominee alongside acts like Dean Brody, Brett Kissel, and other top artists.
